I'm Jessica Edinger CNBC. Wall Street's in the red this afternoon. Investors rattled
by President Trump's new threat of a large tariff increase on Ally. Canada, the Dow down
340 points, three quarters of a percent. Nike shares are leading that lower. They're down
two and a half percent this afternoon. The S&P 500 index down 23 points, that's four tenths of a percent,
and the Nasdaq is down 16 points. Nvidia shares are off their earlier highs but still up more than
1% this afternoon. Companies whose shares have hit fresh all-time highs today include CoachParent,
Tapestry, GE, Vernova, Transdimeime and Nvidia. Bitcoin flying to new highs as institutional investors push money into Bitcoin exchange
traded funds.
Crypto prices, they are soaring beyond that.
Records that yesterday, fresh records on Bitcoin.
Look at that level, 118.450.
Ether up 7%.
It has had a great week this week.
CNBC's Melissa Lee. Investors scratching their heads on new tariffs
threatened on Canadian goods.
35% on imports from Canada, which by the way,
the second largest US trading partner
and the largest buyer of American goods last year.
Now an administration official did tell me
that the exemptions currently in place
for USMCA compliant goods likely will remain as will the lower 10% tariff
for energy imports that would soften this a little bit,
but still a significant escalation from the 25% level
where it is now, I was told that decision is not final.
CNBC's Megan Casella, Brazil facing new Trump tariffs,
and your cup of Joe could get more expensive. The U.S. gets
most of its coffee from Brazil. Brazil has risen in importance as a coffee
exported to the United States. It's the largest in coffee shops. You're gonna
really find other ways and look for other markets to really help import from.
But because Brazil is such a large piece of this, it's gonna be hard to really
circumvent the issue in its entirety if it would be fully implemented. That's TD
Cowan's Andrew Charles on CNBC and President Trump's Brazil tariff threat
pushed orange juice futures up, hitting their highest since early June, making breakfast a
more costly meal. The average price of a 64 ounce container of orange juice rose 8.5% to $4.48
compared with last year.
This is based on new data through June from Data Assembly.
