I'm Jessica Eddinger, CNBC. It's Halloween. It's the last day of October trading and the markets have turned mixed this afternoon. The Dow is now down nine points, being led lower by shares of IBM down almost 2%. Microsoft shares down 1.5%. The S&P 500 index is up 20 points. The NASDAQ, up 179 points, 3 quarters percent. Amazon shares are up up.
Up 10% on strong quarterly results, Amazon, hitting a record high today. Apple shares have as well, and so have shares of Palantir. Fewer people applied for unemployment benefits last week. These are estimates by data company Haber Analytics since there's no government data being released in the shutdown. But continuing claims, according to Haber, hit their highest since August. It's taking people longer to find the next job. In October, severance ended for thousands of,
of federal workers cut in the Doge purge, meaning they're officially fired, and they may not be
being counted. We don't know what's happening at the federal government level. There was going to be
a lot of layoffs that were going to show up in the data because of that extension and they were
put on leave until they were actually let go in October. That's one caveat. I don't know
how that's operating right now. CNBC's senior economics reporter Steve Leesman. YouTube TV subscribers

The live events business just keeps getting bigger.
But this year has been a little bit different because the consumer wants to use their money a little bit more efficiently.
And I think people are really looking for value this year.
I see like how many tickets are being sold or not sold.
I'm seeing that there's a lot of our customer bases really looking for a premium experience.
So the people who do have money are willing to spend it.
You get a ticket that allows you to come in whenever you want.
So most of the tickets are time tickets, but a lot of people spend up and get that flex ticket for that flexibility.
So if it rains, they can come on a different day.
They want some food and beverage experience that goes with it.
They want some merchandise with it.
And they don't want to wait on any lines.
