I'm Peter Shack now, CNBC.
Stocks have opened higher as trading resumes after the Thanksgiving holiday
that comes after an overnight halt in futures trading due to cooling issues
at the CME data centers where trading takes place.
The Dow is up by 68 points at 47,494.
The S&P 500 adding a quarter percent or 16 points in the NASDAQ composite.
A half percent higher, that's about 101 points.
The major averages are trying to extend to $4.95.
four-day win streak and are on track for their best weekly gains in five months.
Today is a short in trading day with the markets closing at 1 p.m. Eastern time.
Former Fed Vice Chairman Roger Ferguson attributes the upbeat market mood to comments by Fed Vice
Chairman John Williams recently, in which he said he saw room for a near-term rate cut.
I think the market was reflecting what it heard, and we'll see if that's the right call.
I actually think it puts the Fed in sort of a tough buying there because there are many folks
who I think are not ready to make the move.
But on the other hand, now the Fed risks if you're going to use that trade is disappointing the market.
So, you know, I think it's become a bit more of a conundrum than one would have liked.
Today, of course, is Black Friday, a significant day for holiday season sales.
As for Thanksgiving, Salesforce estimates online shopping for the day was up 6% over last year.
Tesla plans to double the number of robotaxies in Texas during December.
That comes less than six months after Tesla launched the service in Austin.
The European Commission says that two Apple services, Apple ads, and Apple Maps qualify as so-called gatekeepers, and are subject to stricter rules on content moderation.
Apple disputes that notion and has submitted official rebuttals.
