Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Jessica Edinger CNBC Wall streets in the green after yesterday's mixed day for stocks. The Dow up 74 points out of the gate led higher by shares of Nvidia which are up 3 percent. The S&P 500 index up 13 points. The Nasdaq popping 101 points a half percent. Apple trying for its fifth straight winning day today while Amazon's on its best rally in about three years as it tries for six straight wins. The S&P 500 index now positive for the year, clawing itself back to write about where it started back on January 2nd, the first trading day of 2025. Monday's massive stock rally actually might not have been so much stock buying that was not investors going fundamentally
Starting point is 00:00:48 long the market was actually a lot of short covering and I just saw a report shows on rematch oh I guess that this program posting a report from Goldman's prime broking business saying that we have seen hedge funds capitulate we've seen the second biggest short covering panic on record during Monday's melt up. So that was short covering. In large part, it wasn't outright buying. CNBC's Juliana Tidalbaum in London. United Health shares were bouncing up 2% this morning after yesterday's nearly 18% plunge. Starting point is 00:01:23 down for personal reasons. Airbnb making some big changes. Airbnb launching a complete redesign of its app. CEO Brian Chesky unveiled a completely new service. Experiences inside the app. It's an effort for Airbnb to become a place for people not just to book places to rent, but for people to book local tours, chefs, prepared meals, services, spas, anything that they're doing when they're on vacation or
Starting point is 00:01:50 frankly in their hometown. CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin. American Eagle Outfitters shares are tumbling this after withdrawing full year guidance. The retailer also revealing it's writing off $75 million in inventory. American Eagle says it's making the moves as it deals with slow sales, steep discounting, and an uncertain economy.
