Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Jessica Eddinger, CNBC. The final day of October trading is here. Nothing scary about this morning on Wall Street gains for the major averages, which are all on pace for a winning month. The Dow is up 43 points being led higher by shares of Amazon, which are up 11% this morning. The S&P 500 index, up 45 points. That's a half percent. The NASDAQ. up 316 points out of the gate. That's 1.3%. Shares of Nvidia this morning are up 2.5%. Amazon shares popping on stronger than expected quarterly results after the closing bell yesterday. Apple shares ticking a little lower on its results from last night, even with a forecast of off-the-chart iPhone 17 sales for this current quarter from CEO Tim Cook. Fewer people applied for unemployment benefits. last week. These are estimates by data company Haber analytics since there's no government data
Starting point is 00:01:02 being released in the shutdown. But continuing claims, according to Haber, hit their highest since August. It's taking people longer to find the next job. In October, severance ended for thousands of federal workers cut in the Doge purge, meaning they're officially fired, and they may not be being counted. We don't know what's happening at the federal government level. There was going to be a lot of layoffs that we're going to show up in the data because of that extension and they were put on leave until they were actually let go in October. That's one caveat. I don't know how that's operating right now. CNBC senior analytics reporter Steve Leesman. YouTube TV subscribers paying $83 a month for the base plan can't watch Disney channels. Disney and Alphabet
Starting point is 00:01:50 failing to reach a deal on a new distribution agreement. YouTube accusing Disney of trying to drive up prices to benefit its own pay TV distributors, Hulu and Fubo. Disney said that YouTube TV balked at paying what other distributors pay for its content. Without an agreement, YouTube TV customers will be without ESPN's slate of college football games, as well as the NFL's Monday night football game. CNBC's Becky Quick. ACA open enrollment begins tomorrow. Millions of Americans face huge sticker shock. An early look at premiums for health insurance in the Affordable Care Act marketplace. shows dramatic price increases. ACA health insurance is used by more than 20 million Americans. Consumers are spending about $13.1 billion for today, Halloween.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Live events. It's a big business. Tens of thousands of people are visiting rise of the jackal lanterns in New York and Chicago and other events throughout the country. The live events business just keeps getting bigger, but this year has been a little bit different because the consumer wants to use their money a little bit more efficiently, and I think people are really looking for value this year. I see how many tickets are being sold or not sold. I'm seeing that there's a lot of our customer bases really looking for a premium experience, so the people who do have money are willing to spend it.
Starting point is 00:03:11 You get a ticket that allows you to come in whatever you want, so most of the tickets are time tickets, but a lot of people spend up and get that flex ticket for that flexibility, so if it rains, they can come on a different day.
