Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Jessica Eddinger, CNBC Wall Street, in the green on this last full day of November trading. The markets will be closed tomorrow for Thanksgiving. They'll open again on Friday for a half day, and then November will be in the books. The Dow, up 205 points this morning, almost a half percent. The S&P 500 index is up 33 points, a half percent, and the NASDAQ up 151 points. It's a little more than a half percent. Shears of invidia rebounding from yesterday, they're up two and a half percent this morning. Google Parent Alphabet trying again today to hit a $4 trillion valuation. One investor is hoping that people invest in more than just AI and tech companies.
Starting point is 00:00:47 I think the most exciting area of potential is to see some broadening out in the market. We're seeing a little bit of it this month in terms of a rotation, and you could see that heading into next year as well. So areas like health care and small cap look particularly interesting. They both shown some strength. They both have the potential to gain in the years ahead. So it's not a situation where the top of the market is necessarily struggling, but it's struggling to necessarily perhaps meet expectations and deliver above and beyond those. And so the areas of opportunity are really, let's see if we can get some broadening out here.
Starting point is 00:01:17 That would be very healthy for equities over the long haul. Silver Crest's Robert Teeter on CNBC. Fewer people applied for unemployment benefits last week than expected. $216,000 in the first report since the government reopened. HP, the latest big name, though, to announce pretty big job cuts. The computer maker issuing some disappointing earnings guidance for the new fiscal year. HP also announcing it's cutting between 4 and 6,000 positions or just about 10% of its workforce as it ramps up its adoption of AI joining the growing list of corporate job cuts.
Starting point is 00:01:50 CNBC's Frank Holland. Amazon facing an FAA investigation after one of its delivery drones, snapped an internet cable in Texas that happened last week in Waco. Amazon's goal is to deliver a half billion packages a year by drone in the next four years. Americans are facing the highest turkey prices in years, a family paying 40% more this year on average for a turkey. Part of that because flocks were impacted by avian flu. Travel records may fall today. Millions of Americans are flying or driving to be somewhere for tomorrow's holiday.
Starting point is 00:02:24 The roads expected to be were crowded than ever, according to AAA, and yesterday was the busiest day in the air with more than 52,000 scheduled flights, according to the FAA. But more people are actually in the air today. What we're looking at right now is a pretty good peak season, maybe a little bit less that it could have been had we not had the shutdown, had we not had the government restrictions, but the system looks like it's prepared for the coming peak. Bernstein's David Vernon on CNBC. are being told to get your gifts. When you see them in stock this season, tariffs have forced retailers to be choosy about how much they've bought. Prices may not drop any lower before Christmas. Americans are using tricks to save this year.
