Starting point is 00:00:01 I'm Jessica Ettinger, CNBC, Wall Street, higher in mid-morning trading with the Dow up 355 points. It's being led higher by shares of Boeing on strong quarterly results. Those shares are up almost 3% this morning. The S&P 500 index up 58 points, 8 tenths of a percent. The NASDAQ is up 277 points. That's more than 1%. Iran says it seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz. In response to the U.S. blockade, which still stands.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Amid a ceasefire, President Trump extended yesterday. Oil prices are higher today, U.S. crude now above $91 a barrel. AAA says prices at the pump held steady overnight, sitting at $4.2 for a gallon of regular on average. Americans were paying just $2.98 per gallon on average before the war began. You're not dreaming. Airfares are higher. United Airlines not only reported better than Excered. quarterly results, but the CEO Scott Kirby tells CNBC, it's passing on almost all of its higher jet fuel costs to customers. Fares will go higher through the year. So far, customers are paying up.
Starting point is 00:01:14 We are passing through right now about 40 to 50 percent of the increase in fuel. That's faster than I can ever remember in my career. We've had a doubling of fuel prices as we got through the end of the quarter. And we expect to get to 100 percent by the end of year. Phil really good about that we can be delivering solid. result, even with the rapid increase in fuel prices. European airlines are starting to cancel flights as oil is not moving out of the Middle East amid the U.S. war on Iran and jet fuel shortages loom. Deutsche Lefanzah says that it will cancel some European routes and 20,000 short-haul flights that are scheduled between now and October in a bid to try and save jet fuel.
Starting point is 00:01:54 European Airlines have been struggling with potential shortages and higher prices amid the war in Iran. Jet fuel prices in Europe have more than doubled since the start of the war. Last week, the International Energy Agency warned that Europe has only about six weeks of jet fuel supply left. CNBC's Becky Quick, and United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby addressed that for his airline and the U.S. on CNBC. At the moment, everything that we can see still feels manageable to us. High prices, of course, but not an actual supply shortage. We're watching it. closely, you know, at least as far out as we can see, we think things are okay. But we know it's an elevated risk, a risk that normally doesn't exist, but it's certainly an elevated risk,
Starting point is 00:02:39 the longer this goes on. Boeing lost less in the last quarter as it delivers more planes. It says it hopes its new 737 Max Jet will be certified to fly later this year. Roeblocks is making big changes to address child predators in the game. Adults pretending to be kids online. When you sign into Roblox now, they use an AI facial recognition software that gives you an age. And so as a parent, I have to sign in with my child. It scans my face. And then it scans my kid's face. And so then it signs an age to them.
Starting point is 00:03:14 And they're not allowed to interact my child with anyone who is more than one year older than them. Does that facial recognition happen every single time that you sign on so that if your child is not the one who's sitting in front of the computer, they would recognize that and shut it off? Yes.
