I'm Jessica Ettinger CNBC inflation rose last month. Markets are mixed this morning. The Dow is down 90 points and it's being led lower by shares of American Express, which are down one and a half percent. The S and P 500 index is up 15 points. The NASDAQ up 139 points, more than a half percent. Nvidia shares are up three and a half percent this morning.
Let's start with inflation.
It's going in the wrong direction
as consumers paid higher prices in June.
Inflation hotter, it's highest since February,
and its biggest month-over-month gain since January.
June read on CPI, the Consumer Price Inflationary Guidance
headline up 2.7. As expected, up three-tenths
will be the second warmest of the year, two-tenths hotter than the rear view mirror.
That's CNBC's Rick Santelli. The Fed's target inflation rate is just 2%. Hotter inflation
may give the Fed another reason just to keep interest rates right where they are. Earning
season is on. JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup out
with better than expected results.
BlackRock reporting better than expected earnings,
but revenue disappointed.
And Wells Fargo with better than expected results.
But it lowered its guidance for the quarter
and shares were lower.
Is JPM the best of the bunch?
Right now, yeah.
Well, no, people are gonna say city no matter what.
That's just what they do.
There's just a halo around city.
I want to disagree with a lot of the action in the stocks.
I think JPMorgan actually is much better, was up a couple of bucks when it started.
It's just a clean number.

NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Wong met with President Trump and now says the company's getting ready
to export AI chips to China.
Pennsylvania Republican Senator Dave McCormick says it's a fine line to walk.
We have to do two things at the same time.
We have to maintain a leadership position in the most advanced chips.
So it's a balancing act.
The first generation, most advanced chips have to be
in the hands of the United States,
but we're also gonna have to recognize the world's moving.
And if we can have US-based companies,
US-friendly companies that are in the leadership role,
they're gonna be able to need to sell
some of the lesser most advanced to other countries.
