Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Jessica Edinger CNBC Wall Street mixed out of the gate. The Dow down 117 points being led lower by shares of McDonald's, which are down one and a half percent. The S&P 500 index down nine. The NASDAQ has been vacillating between green and red. It's up five points now. Nvidia shares are pulling back. They're down three quarters of 1 percent this morning.
Starting point is 00:00:26 President Trump announced over the weekend new tariffs on goods coming into the U.S. from the European Union and from Mexico. We have tariffs pouring in at levels that we have never seen before and they've only just started. That's really a small portion. It's mostly from cars and aluminum and steel, a little bit of lumber. But they'll really start in about another week. And then in about a month, they'll come in at levels that are extremely strong. And our countries make a lot of money. Investors will watch that along with earnings season, which begins tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Results coming tomorrow from big name banks. Bitcoin with a fresh record high. Bitcoin setting a new all time high mark of north of $123,000 earlier this morning. Bitcoin is now more than 12% higher over the last week or so. Now that move all comes ahead of crypto week in Congress as the House begins deliberation on crypto legislation, including the highly anticipated Genius Act. That move is also sending Bitcoin related stocks higher. If you look at Bitcoin proxy strategy, formerly micro strategy, you got Robin Hood, Coinbase,
Starting point is 00:01:35 Mara Holdings, all moving higher on the heels of that new record high in Bitcoin prices. That's CNBC's Dominic Chu. President Trump with a major statement coming on Russia today. President Trump has already said that he is going to have patriot systems sent to Ukraine paid for by the European members of NATO. You know, he's already expressed how frustrated he is with Vladimir Putin. And he's also expressed, I think, what he views as the last, you know, six months of conversations he's had with President Putin. That's U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Matthew Whitaker on CNBC.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Oil prices rose to a three week high. Triple A says the national average for a gallon of regular three dollars, fifteen cents, two cents higher than a month ago. NVIDIA's CEO told CNN he's not worried that China's military will use his company's chips. Jensen Wong heading to China again this week for another trip as NVIDIA spent the past week as the world's first $4 trillion company.
Starting point is 00:02:39 The price of a stamp is higher this morning. The Postal Service raising that. Forever Stamps are up by 5 cents from 73 to 78 cents to mail a letter. More men than women have returned to in office work since COVID. According to the Wall Street Journal, it says surveys show the gap highlights that women are still more likely to bear the brunt of chores and childcare at home while they work. Warner Brothers Superman won the weekend box office, taking in $122 million, the third biggest box office opening weekend of the year.
