Hello, you come here of Coffee Break Spanish.
Welcome back to Coffee Break Spanish.
I'm here to help you
to help you with your Spanish.
I'm here to help you with your Spanish
and today we're in Lesson 50.
Now, because this marks the end of this group of 10 lessons,
we've got a little quiz for you.
We're going to be testing your understanding
and adjectives with a little personality quiz.
See if you can work out who you're talking about
when we describe people using adjectives to describe
physical appearance and indeed what their character is like too.
So I hope you enjoy this lesson.
Okay, so I said that we're going to be putting what we've learned recently to the test in this lesson.
And the way in which we're going to do this is by playing a little game.
I'm going to be describing various people and you've got to try to guess who these people are.
Now before we get started, I'm going to go through some vocabulary, some extra vocabulary
that you probably won't yet know, but that you will need for this.
lesson. To begin with, I'm going to give you a new verb and this verb is
L-L-L-L-E-A-R. Now you should already be thinking I know how to spell that
because the first sound
L-L-L-L-E-V-A-R
L-L-E-V-A-R
L-L-E-V-A-R.
L-E-V-A-R.
L-E-V-R.
L-E-V-R-E-R.
First of all, it can mean
to carry,
L-L-E-V-R, to carry.
But it can also mean to wear.
So you could say
mark
Mark,
Léva
a
camiseta.
Camiseta
is the
word for a
t-shirt.
Mark
Lleva
a
camiseta
the coffee
brick
Spanish.
So Mark
is
winning a
coffee brick
Spanish
T-shirt.
Lever.
Okay,
so you'll
also hear
the word
a jersey.
A jersey.
It looks
like jersey
and is
the word
for a sweater.
When we're
using the
word
Lever.
You may
also.
also hear the word ropa.
Ropa.
Ropa means an item of clothing.
Ropa.
La ropa clothes.
And something else that you'll come across is gaffas.
Gaffas.
Las gaffas
are glasses.
What do you think?
Las gaffas de sol would be.
They are sunglasses.
L'Ghaffas or Las Gaffas de Sol in some cases.
Now, when we're talking about clothes and also when we're talking about hair,
you'll hear some colours.
And we've done a few colours over the course of the lessons.
We've not really had a lesson about colours.
That's coming up in the next unit.
But we've had things like rojo,
rojo,
meaning red.
We've also had, when we talked about hair,
Negro, negro, meaning black,
blanco,
blanco,
meaning white.
And something else you'll hear today is Greece, Greece.
This means grey.
So, can you remember how to say he has, for example, black hair?
In Spanish, you turn it around and say,
he has the hair black.
Tienie el el pelo
Nero. Tienie el
Pelo Negro.
And so on. Now
another word that we are going to come
across in this week's lesson
is the word or the phrase
se comporta.
And that comes from the verb
comportarse.
Now, because it finishes with
arse, you know that
is reflexive. You've
heard levantarse.
Despertairese and so on.
Levantarse means to get-ups.
Despertarse means to wake up.
And comportarse literally means to carry yourself in a particular manner.
It actually means to behave.
Comportarse to behave.
So if you hear that someone se comporta bien,
it means that they behave themselves.
A word that we'll also come across today is the word
Famoso
Famoso
Famoso means famous
and another word that is used very similarly to
Famoso is
Conocido
Conocido
Conocido literally means well-known
Conocido
And both
Famoso and Conocido
have feminine forms
Famosa and Conocida
and obviously in Latin America
Conocido becomes Conocido
A few more words
We might be talking about people who take up particular roles
And the word for a role is
A papel
A papel
Now literally papel means paper
And it's the idea that if an actor takes up a role
They're given a paper, the script
And they've to carry out that role
They've to take up that paper
Okay, so they learn the script, the words that the character will say, and that's the papel.
Now, to help you guess who some of these people are, I'm going to be telling you when they were born,
Nathio, or in Latin America, Nassio, and sometimes when they died.
Mourio.
So, Nathio, means.
He was born or she was born.
For example, I might say,
Nacio in 1,945.
Nacio in 1,945.
I surprised you with that one.
Hopefully you were able to work out that that was
he was born or she was born, in fact, in 1945,
1,945.
Or I might say something like,
Murio in 2003.
He died or she died in 2003.
Okay, so I think it's now about time to get on with the quiz.
I'm going to read out a passage about six different people.
First of all, I'll read it at a fairly normal speed
to see what you can get from the first listening.
And then I'll read it more slowly.
And by that time, hopefully, you'll have to have to be.
have identified the person.
And just one other thing, if you're using the enhanced version of the podcast,
you'll have some picture clues too.
Let's play how it's name.
Okay, so here is person number one.
Persona number one.
This man is English.
Nacio.
He was footballist and, when he was 18 years,
he started to
play for Manchester United
also has
played for Real Madrid and
L. Galaxy.
His husband
also is very famous
They have three
children,
Brooklyn,
Romeo,
and Cruz
How is it
called?
Okay, I'll repeat this again
slowly.
This man is
English.
Nacio
in London
in
in 1997.
It's footballist,
and when
he was 18 years,
he started to
play for Manchester United.
Also,
has played for
Real Madrid and
the Ley Galaxy.
His husband
also is very
famous.
is cantante
Tienen three
Hs
Brooklyn
Romeo
and Cruz
How's it
So let's think about your clues there
Is English
He's English
Nacio in London
He was born in London
In 1975
19975
1,975
1975
75. He's a footballist. He's a footballer or he plays soccer. And when he was 18,
he began to play for Manchester United. So he began playing for Manchester United.
Also he has played for Real Madrid and LA Galaxy. So he's also played for Real Madrid and
LA Galaxy. Su esposa also. Tamien. Who's his esposa?
It's his wife and she also is very famous.
She's very famous too.
It's cantante.
She's a singer.
I then said,
They have three children,
Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruth.
So what's his name?
Well, hopefully you've been able to work out.
That's called David Beckham.
Okay, let's move on to persona number two.
This man is of South Africa.
It's a bit
He has a
He has
very high
He's
quite
He's a
He's a
He's a

let's hear it a little more slowly. Este hombre,
South Africa.
It's
a
old,
has
89
years.
No
is
very
high,
is
quite
bad.
He
the
blue
gray
is
a
man
very
famous
and in
1999
he
won
the
Prime
Nobel
of
the
Paz
how's
Let's think through our clues again
So this time
This man is de
South Africa
And that's possibly not a country you've come across before
Africa, obviously Africa
And South Africa
Is Bastante Vuejo
He's quite old
And what age is he?
He has 809 years
He is 83 years old
He's not very tall.
He's quite small.
He's quite small.
He's got gray here.
He's a very famous man.
And in 1993, and something happened in 1993, 1993,
he won't know the Nobel, 1993,
Gano el Prémyon Nobel de la Paz.
So La Paz is peace
and the prize is a prize or the prize.
So El Prémyo Nobel de la Paz is the Nobel Peace Prize.
So who is this man from South Africa who's 89 years old
who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993?
It's of course Nelson Mandela.
Okay, moving on, number three.
This person is
a woman very
known, very famous.
It's English and
a quite
a year.
He has 81 years.
He has a
daughter that's
Anne and has
three children,
Charles, Andrew,
and Edward.
This woman
a much and
live in a
house very
great in London,
or a
palace.
Okay, this time a little slur.
This person is a woman very
known, very famous.
It's Englisha and
a bit of a lot of year.
He has 81 years.
He has a daughter
that's Anne.
And he has three children.
Charles.
Andrew and Edward
This woman
via much
and live
in a house
very great
in London
or so
a palacio
So have you worked out who this is
Let's think about the clues
It's very famous
She's very famous
She's English
And she's English
And
She's quite old
She is 81 years
She is 81 years old
Now then I told you a little bit about her family
Tiena una Iha
She has a daughter called Anne
Tienetreijos
She's got three sons
Charles, Andrew and Edward
This Mujer
Biaja Mucho
Biaja comes from the verb
Biajar which means
To travel
She travels a lot
And she lives in a
Kyi live in a very big house
In London
And she lives in a very big house in London
Or yeah, a palacio
Or you could say a palace
Does that give you any clues?
We are talking about Queen Elizabeth
2nd, La Reina
Okay, moving on
Number four
Numero 4
This is a man and is American and has 52 years.
It's a lot and has the pillow black.
Well, yeah a little gris.
He has gothas and always,
always,
he has a jersey negro.
He has a company very great of
computers.
In Spanish, this company
is called Manzana.
How is it?
Okay, this is perhaps a little more difficult.
Let's have a little slower.
This is an hombre American and
has 52 years.
It's a bastante
alto and
has the pillow negro.
Well, yeah a little gris.
He has gotas
and
always a guy
a jersey
Negro
Hebrae
for
a company
very
great
of
an
in
Spanish
is
Manzana
How
he
is a
American
man
This is an
American
man
What did you see
52
years
He's
52 years old
He's
is
a
He's a little bit of black.
Well, yeah a little gris.
He's quite tall and he has black here.
Well, already, a little gray.
Lever gaffas.
Remember earlier we learned
Lever, Lever,
He wears glasses.
And he always leva
a jersey negro.
And this is a real clue.
He always wears a black.
sweater.
Travaja
for a
company
very
great
of
ordenadores.
So he
works for a
very big
company of
ordinadores
computers.
And in
Spanish,
in
Spanish,
in
Spanish, this
would be
called
manzana.
Do you
know what
the word
manzana
means?
It means
Apple.
So this
man works for
Apple,
always
wears black
sweaters.
It's Steve Jobs.
Okay, so here is person number five.
Persona number five.
This person is a woman very
known.
It's American and
a lot of
young.
Nacio
and has been
model,
actress and
can't be a
abuel and his
abel
and a hotel
that's a
famous.
It's rubia,
is guapa,
and a
a
They're working in an hotel
Bastante
Famoso.
It's rubia,
is guapa,
and a
sometimes not
she doesn't
do
very well.
Okay, so let's
think about the clues.
It's a very
well-known lady.
It's American and
a quite young.
She's American and quite young.
Nacio
in 1981.
And has
been model,
actress and
cantante.
So she has been
a model.
She's been a model.
Actrith.
An actress.
And a singer.
Su abuelo
and his
abuelo
are in an
hotel
that's
so this is
possibly your biggest
clue here.
Su abuelo
is her grandfather
and
So bisabuelo, her great-grandfather,
Travachan, this is possibly not quite true.
They work, but they're related to an hotel
Bastante Famoso.
So they've got something to do with
An Hotel Bastante Famoso.
Quite a famous hotel.
I suppose you could say a famous hotel chain.
Okay, let's think about physically.
This lady is rubia, guapa.
So she's blonde, pretty, and sometimes,
no se comporta very bien.
Do you remember what that means?
She doesn't behave very well.
So who are we talking about here?
A young, blonde American who doesn't behave very well
and is related in some way to a hotel chain
could only be Paris Hilton.
Okay, one final question.
This man has the pelo blanco
and he has a barba,
also,
Blanca.
She never
a rope
roja and
every year
in December
visit a
little
for give us
for give us
to give us
again,
perhaps a
little slower
this time.
This man
has the
man has the
blue
and
he's a
barba
also
black.
So,
So, heva
Roja
and,
every
year,
in
December,
visit a
new
to the
for the
give us
to give us
so
who are
we
talking about
here?
Well,
this
man
has the
pale
black
so he
has
white
here
and
he
he
he
he has
barba
and he
also
caties
or
wears a beard, a barba,
also a black. So his barba is also
a white beard, white hair, white beard.
So, what color of clothes does he always wear?
He always wears red clothes.
And every year, in December, in December,
visit a los
Niños, so he
visits children
to give them
regalos de navad
Christmas presents
So who is this white-haired,
white bearded man always dressed in red?
Well, there could only be one answer
at this time of year is Father Christmas,
Santa Claus.
