But I need to talk to
talk about tranquillity. Confia, Alejandro.
You're dangerous, eh, Rory? But

Okay, let's get on with the lesson.
So we join Rory and Alejandro at Balma Airport.
Alejandro has just arrived in Majorca and Rory has gone to the airport to meet him.
As we'll find out, Maria will join him later.
Rory starts by asking Alejandro if he's had a good flight,
and it seems that the flight was fantastic.
no turbulence at all. Rory immediately starts using the Argentinian expressions like
Bive and realizes that he has missed Alejandro's accent. Indeed, he says that since he met Maria,
his Spanish grammar and vocabulary have improved lots. But he has lost his Argentinian accent.
Since
because I
Maria,
my grammatica
and my
vocabulary
has
much,
but I've
perided
accent
Argentino.
Alejandro says
that he
has come to
the island
to help
Rory with his
accent.
Rory explains
that Maria
is coming to
pick them up
in the
next half hour.
Rory came
in the bus
but Maria
is just
leaving work
so she'll
come to
pick them
up and
they'll drive
to
Andratch
together.
Alejandro is
impressed.
He says
that Maria
looks after
Rory
well.
Rory and
Alejandro
decide to go for a coffee while they're waiting for Maria.
Alejandro tells Rory that he has bought new diving equipment.
It was very expensive, but he thinks it was worth it.
Rory says that he's saving up to pay for his studies.
He'd like to start studying in September,
but he's not yet decided the exact topic.
In fact, he's not at all sure about what he should study.
It needs to be a topic which is both interesting and innovative.
Alejandro understands that Rory must be a bit fed up with the whole thing,
but Rory explains that he's fine when he doesn't think about it
and that Maria is convinced that he'll be inspired
although he's not quite so sure
Maria says that no me preoccupy
that yeah me will be in inspiration
but I don't stay so convinced
Alejandro changes the subject
and asks Rory what the plans are
for his week-long stay on Mallorca
Alejandro would love to do some diving
Rory has some time off as a result of the extra work
he's been doing for Consuelo
so he reveals that he's planning an adventure.
But as we know, this is against Maria's wishes
and Rory wouldn't like to fall out with Maria as a result.
He thinks that he'll be able to win her over.
Alejandro is keen to find out more about the plan
that Rory is hatching.
Rory explains,
He wants to go in search of sunken treasure.
He wants to go in search of sunken treasure.
Alejandro can't quite believe this,
but Rory promises to fill him in with all the day.
details after he's spoken to Maria.
He suggests that the three of them go for dinner in a very good restaurant and just at that
point Maria pulls up in the car.
Alejandro's first impression of his friend's girlfriend is that he has chosen well.
Claro.
As a good Spanish, very wapa.
Exactly.
Now, when Rory says that you won't believe what I'm about to tell you, he uses a phrase
that we have heard quite a number of times before.
Let's listen to it again.
No te lo vas to creer.
No te lo vas
a creer. Let's split this up and think about
the way in which this is grammatically
constructed. First of all, we've got the verb
creer, which of course means to believe.
So you're not going to believe
this, but the important thing
is here that the creer
also has a
se and also
has a lo.
So it's crearselo
to believe it to
yourself almost.
So no te lo vas to creer
You are not going to believe it
But literally you are not going to believe it to yourself
And we always have to use that
When we're talking about this particular expression
There's another way of saying the same
No vas to creertelot
Very well so there we're taking the te and the lo
And putting them onto the end of the verb
Of course only in the infinitive sense
no me lo go to
creer, no
boy to creer me lo
however, if they were talking
about you're going to believe it or I'm
going to believe it, if we're talking about
I believe it in a present tense
there of course our
reflexive pronoun and the
object pronoun they have to come before
the verb. So I don't believe it
would be, let's see if our listeners can think
of this, I don't believe it
using the reflexive pronoun, the
object pronoun and then the verb
it would be
No me lo creo
no me
lo creo so not
to me it I believe
no me lo creo
but of course when we move that
verb and change it in the tense
if we're putting it into an immediate future tense
using i a a
so ira plus the infinitive
no me
lo go to create
now how would we move that into
let's say the perfect tense
again a compound tense
so we've got different parts of this
how would we say
I haven't believed it
to myself
let's see if our listeners
can think of this
I haven't believed it
to myself
okay
Carmen
no no me lo he creed
no me lo
so the perfect tense
the past participle
of creer becomes
creido
and here we're saying
no me lo
he creed
perfect
no me lo he
creed or he hasn't believed it or she hasn't believed it,
no se lo ha creedro.
Exactly.
So, crearselo in the infinitive.
And then if it's a conjugated verb,
we need to put the reflexive pronoun,
the object pronoun, and the verb after that.
Correct.
Very well, this is where we are going to leave our listeners
to the preview version of this show.
Of course, there is an extended version
in which we go through the entire passage in great detail
and we'll be talking about all that wonderful
Argentinian language in here.
