Okay, let's get on with the lesson.
Okay, it's time to listen to our English version,
or at least an explanation of what's going on here,
so that everyone can understand exactly what's happening.
we are reading an email, as we know, from Alejandro to Rory,
and Alejandro has already left Majorca.
He's continuing his tour of Europe before heading back to Argentina.
At the time of writing, Alejandro is on the penultimate day of his stay in London.
Given that the city is enormous, they've not had time to do everything they wanted to do.
With the various places he's been able to visit, he feels like he's on the set of a film.
Alejandro and his friends can complain about the weather.
They've had relatively good weather, even if it has rained a little each day.
The climate, more or less well, yovio a little bit each day, but also we've seen
we can't complain. No, no, we've seen quite recently in Coffee Break Spanish.
Alejandro goes on to use the Argentinian words for buses and underground trains,
and he mentions that they've experienced the traditional pub lunch of fish and chips,
and indeed that it was Rico delicious.
He's off to see Billy Elliott the musical this evening
and then tomorrow they'll head to Denmark for five days
followed by a trip to their Norwegian fjords
about which he's very excited
although he does admit that he'll be venturing into colder areas.
Termino the cold for me.
A part of the hour, go ruffanda all those days.
Within a fortnight, they'll be back in Argentina
and he thinks it would be fantastic if Maria and Rory came to live in Argentina
and Alejandro promises to be the perfect host,
just as his friends were in Mallorca.
He also reminds Rory that there are some very prestigious universities in his homeland,
perfect for Rory's studies.
Having heard all about Rory's appearance on TV,
Alejandro wants to see it for himself,
so he asks Rory to send him the link
so that he can see Rory speaking in Spanish on screen.
he insists that Rory should enjoy his moment of glory.
Alejandro asks Rory when his contract in the hotel ends.
He's wondering what his plans are for afterwards,
and presumably Rory will go home to Scotland to see his family,
especially given that within less than a month,
he'll have to make some big decisions about where to live and study.
Alejandro also asks after Maria.
He's missing their trips to the beach, and indeed their diving adventures.
He'll never forget their holidays on the island.
Alexandero mentions that he's not sure if he ever got around to thanking them for their hospitality while he was visiting them.
No see if I gave to appreciate them.
He says that Rory and Maria were the best travel companions, and although his long journey isn't yet over,
he doubts that he can better the memories of his summer.
Very well.
What do you have been?
Very good, very interesting.
And always, always, many, many, things interesting.
and expressions
interesting.
There was
an expression
interesting just
at the end
there where
Routi said
or rather
Alejandro said
Dudo much
that
Pueh
sure that's
a really nice
expression
Dudo much
K
and of course
is
followed by a
subjunctive
Dudar
K
plus a
subjunctive
So let's just
listen to
that phrase
again
Dudo
much
that
super
those days
of
the
day's
okay
so
I doubt very much
that's actually interesting
because I think we're talking here about the
Viaje, El Viege,
Dudo Mucho that El Viege
Puedae superar
Los Dias de verano.
I doubt very much that the journey
that he's making just now
can exceed
the summer days.
So he doesn't think it can be any better
than the days he spent in the summer in
Majorca. However, the Pueda
because it's subjunctive, it could also refer to himself.
So I doubt very much that I can do something.
And in that case, supera would have a slightly different meaning.
Which is get over something.
So to get over something if you're perhaps getting over a trauma
or getting over perhaps a disappointing result in an exam or something like that.
Dudo much that could superer this trauma or dudo much that.
superar the note of the examen.
Perfecto.
So in this case, the Dudo Mucho is still meaning a subjunctive.
Okay, I doubt very much that.
Dudo Mucha K plus a subjunctive.
But we're just changing the meaning slightly.
When it's, you supero, well, the note that I get over the note,
not the note to the mark that I got.
Okay, so there it's supero from superar, just as straightforward.
However, the situation supera what we've lived the year past.
So the situation exceeds, it goes further than the situation we had last year.
Perfect.
Okay, we'll probably see some more of dudar,
or dudo much,
in our translations that are part of the bonus materials of this episode of Coffee Break Spanish.
But for now, it's time to say much gracias.
And adios.
We'll be back again soon with the next episode.
episode in our story. We hope you've enjoyed this one today.
Much thanks and after the
next. Adios, amigos.
