Starting point is 00:00:02 Coffee Break Spanish Espresso, episode two. Hello to welcome back to the Coffee Break Spanish Espresso, in which we'll be bringing you a quick shot of Spanish to help you keep thinking about the language on a regular basis. I'm my name Mark. I'm the professor of Coffee Brick Spanish. I'm the teacher here at Coffee Brick Spanish, and I would like to begin, first of all, by saying much a grazias.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Thanks for your comments, reviews and emails following our first episode of this new series. In particular, we'd like to say enoravouena this week to our coffee break Spanish listener, Justin Gould, who told us on Facebook that he had just given six back-to-back presentations to his European sales staff in English, French, Italian and Spanish without choking on his own tongue, and that this was thanks to radio lingua. Well done, Justin, and please keep listening.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Also thanks to Heather Humphreys. We also say thanks to Heather, who said of the new show, me gusto muchissimo, very interesting, and very util. Please do, let us know what you think
Starting point is 00:01:12 of the new Coffee Break Spanish Espresso. Now, we're going to start the episode. Now, I was in Spain recently,
Starting point is 00:01:24 and I took a photo of an advertising poster for the airline Iberia, or Iberia. If you're listening to the episode on the podcast app
Starting point is 00:01:33 of your mobile device, then you should be able to see the poster. If not, head over to coffeebreak Spanish espresso. and you'll be able to see this week's photo on our site. I thought the pun on the poster was absolutely fantastic.
Starting point is 00:01:47 The airline company was announcing a new range of entertainment, including music, TV and films on their flights. And the key phrase on this advert was, I'll say that again. Oi, Tu-vuelo Sera de Cine. Let's think this phrase out.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Let's work it out word by word. Oi, of course, today. Tu-buelo, your flight. El Buelo is the word for a flight. The verb is bolar to fly. Tu-buelo-serra. That's the future tense of ser. De-cine, or de-sine,
Starting point is 00:02:30 for our Latin-American listeners. Serra de Thine, it will be of the cinema. It sounds a little funny when we say it like that. Your flight will be of the cinema. However, what we are looking at here is an example of the idiomatic expression, ser de Cine or ser decine, or indeed in some cases, estar de Cine or estar desine. So let's think about what this means.
Starting point is 00:02:59 if something is of the cinema then it's good enough to be in a film it's fantastic so when you describe something as este steen it means it's absolutely fantastic it's good enough to be in a film as I said so we could say for example if we're going to a party we could say this night is going to be
Starting point is 00:03:24 fantastic it's going to be like in a film or for example if if we're organising a particular event on a Tuesday, if there's something happening every Tuesday night, we could say Los Martes sundecine. On a Tuesday, it's like being in a film. It's fantastic every Tuesday. So you can use this expression to talk about most things
Starting point is 00:03:45 that you could describe as fantastic, as wonderful, as amazing. Now, of course, we have to point out that although we've been talking about one particular airline, there are other airlines available, and there's no association implied between this particular airline and coffee break Spanish. Okay, it's time to move things up a little. Talk about something a little more complicated because it's time for... Subjunctive of the week. So it's the subjunctive the week and here's Fernanda.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Hello, myos. Today we're going to be the subjunctive of the semester and is for that. In order that or so that. Yes, much thanks, Mark. So, the first Oration is The Yamo For you
Starting point is 00:04:30 So you know, I'm for you know for you know for you know the translation
Starting point is 00:04:38 Mark Okay, we'd say here I'll phone you so that you know the plans The subjunctivo
Starting point is 00:04:46 in the oration is Sepas Sepas From the verb Saber to know
Starting point is 00:04:52 and therefore Sepas is the subjunctive form here so that you know the plans. See, now the next is,
Starting point is 00:05:05 we'll have to study more for that we'll be in the examen. Tendremos to study more for that we're going in the examin. A little more. Yes. What is the traduction, Mark?
Starting point is 00:05:19 So we will have to study more, to have to study more using the future sense of tenet, so that us be a bien in the examen. And here we're saying so that things go well for us
Starting point is 00:05:36 in the exam, or so that the exam goes well for us. Yes, very well. The subjunctive in this oration is Baja and Baja comes of the verb ir. Of course, so Baja is the form
Starting point is 00:05:50 of the subjunctive here, coming from the verb to go, so that things go well, for us, for us, for that we'll be in the
Starting point is 00:06:00 examin. Yes, very well. Well, much thanks, Bernard. De
Starting point is 00:06:03 nothing, Mark, we'll see. We'll be back. Okay, we'll be back in just a moment.

Starting point is 00:07:06 La Cita de la Semana now our quotation this week comes from someone involved not in Iberia but in another well-known airline and the quotation focuses on how to get the most out of life. This was said by Richard Branson. Of course, he said it in English, but we're using the Spanish version here today. He said, My philosophy of life is that only se live one way.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Vive your life at maximum. So is more entreatenedo. Let's think about this again. my philosophy of life is that only is that only one way. So my philosophy of life, my philosophy of life,
Starting point is 00:07:53 is that only one lives one time. So you only live once. It's that only is that only is that only is one one way. And so live your life Al maximum
Starting point is 00:08:10 live your life to the max so is more entrettenido it's more fun that way so is more
Starting point is 00:08:20 entrettenido Entretino comes from the verb Entretener which means to entertain so entrettenido entertaining or fun
Starting point is 00:08:33 My philosophy of life is that only is that only is that only one And that is where we're going to leave it for this episode of the Coffee Break Spanish Espresso. We hope you've enjoyed it. Please do let us know what you think by posting a comment
