Welcome to Coffee Break Spanish.
Welcome to the Coffee Break Spanish Show.
I'm Annabelle and I am Annabelle.
I'm very well, you're good, you're
I'm very content of being here.
I'm also delighted to be here in this last episode of this season,
here of the Coffee Break Spanish show.
And in these weekly episodes of the Coffee Break Spanish show,
we help you to improve your Spanish one coffee break at a time.
That's it.
So if you're watching the video,
on YouTube, make sure that you subscribe to our channel.
And if you're listening to the podcast version,
just make sure that you subscribe wherever you are listening.
So for this last episode of this season,
we have brought you something quite interesting.
Oh, de what we're going to help you to react.
Well, in a Spanish conversation, just imagine that you are having a conversation
with your Spanish friend or Hispanic friend.
and they are telling you a story.
So we are going to help you to know how to react in those situations.
That is.
Well, it's very interesting.
We're going to.
So as we have just said, we are going to teach you just to show you how to react
when having a conversation with your native speakers' friends.
And we're going to see some of the most common reaction phrases.
Yeah?
Okay.
So the first one is, in serious.
Oh, I like this one. I use it all the time.
Same. And En Serio just means really.
And we use this to show surprise and it can be either good or bad surprise.
We're going to see this in an example.
So this is a conversation.
And if you could, I would like you to react to my sentence.
I will. I'm ready.
Okay. So the example is me go dos meses at Thailand.
I'm going two months to Thailand.
In serious?
So really, that's great.
En Serio as really.
And it's a reaction to a positive or like just a good news.
So en serio.
But imagine that I really don't want to go to Thailand because I don't know any reason.
So then I will say, me go two months to Thailand.
In serio, what rollo.
So then we have to en serio that is just really.
So positive one, en serio.
and negative one,
En Serio.
And I can see, I can hear in the way that you're saying it
that the tone changes a little bit, no?
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
And you have added something else in the last one
when I was like, oh, I'm going to months,
for two months to Thailand.
Uh-huh.
What have you said?
I said, in se, no, in serio,
what is this?
What is this?
What do you think?
Because this is another reaction,
another way to react to something.
Yeah, exactly.
So, Ke rollo means, oh, no.
that's that's not good no
what a hassle
as well
yes
see rollo
I like that word
because it's the
strong art
so just like to
show that you find
something boring
or bothersome
like oh
she's just reacting
to my sentence
of oh I have like
to go to Thailand
so just
oh in serio
yeah
I like that
as well
because it repeats
I said it
as well in the previous
expression
I say oh
okay bien
So we tend to, when we react to things like this, we normally use the word
which is something that surprises our learners a lot because they're like, why are you saying
this with k?
So yeah, that's just the way we react.
Que bien, what rollo.
And we have another one that starts with ke and it's, Ke pena.
See, so that's, oh, what a pity.
And so, so, what a shame.
So just like in English, it expresses like condolences about a situation.
So just like, oh, yeah, such a shame.
So if I said to you something like,
well, no, we don't
go to vacations.
Oh no.
In serious?
What pena.
So we have added, oh no, in serious.
What pen.
I feel like this is something that we,
Spanish speakers do a lot.
We say lots of expressions.
Yeah.
In one goal.
So the good thing is that just to keep in mind that we are not only using one,
we can just use multiple.
And three, four, well, don't overuse it, right?
But yeah, I mean,
It's not going to sound like you're overusing it, if that makes sense.
If it sounds like you're, you are overusing it.
To us, it doesn't.
Well, so we have,
Ke pena,
what rollo,
que bien.
And now let's get again like that surprise with,
Keme dithes.
I like this one.
Yes.
So this is to say something like,
really?
No way.
But literally,
we are saying,
what are you saying?
What are you talking about?
But it's just like, oh, really?
Kemi d'i this is.
What do you say to me?
And again, we use it for surprise, but either good or bad.
And it could be interchangeable with Enserio.
So instead of using Enserio, we can use Ke me Dices or both.
That is.
So if I say something like, Annabel,
my friends me prepared on a voyage surprise and we went one
a semester.
What me Dices?
What way.
Aha.
That is.
And now Kewi is just like how cool.
like saying,
Ke bien.
So I hear like,
Kemi says,
positive thing.
Yes,
and we have
something similar
with no me
don't tell me.
Yeah.
I think I would use
them both interchangeably,
actually.
I agree,
I agree.
So,
for example,
me going to
get a
next year.
No me
digas.
In serious,
que bien.
So is.
And I love it
because,
yeah,
you have just used
three.
I love it.
I like this one
particularly.
Oh, that's a really good one.
It's like, what a mess.
Uh-huh, exactly.
So we would express that a situation is complex or is a mess.
So if I said something like,
I thought that I had to do a presentation on Monday.
So I thought I had to give a presentation on Monday.
But my boss told me that it was on Tuesday.
It's
Hega
the lunas
and he said
He had to
do it
So Monday
came
Okay Monday
And they told me
that I had
to do it
that day
So this is
We are presenting
a very messy
situation
Right
And no
I was
expecting
anything
So now
my reaction
would be
What me
Diss
in serious
Like
Really
Yes
Yes
And
result
that
the theme of the presentation that I had to give,
was other of the one of the one that they had told me previously.
No me digas, what lio.
Exactly.
So all of them there.
So presenting the information and you're expressing surprise,
what me did you, in serious?
No way, really.
And then, no me digas, what lio.
So again, what are you saying?
What a mess.
So is, that.
So just like, yeah, we can combine them.
And, well, there are more, but I think that here we had to add it one filler or one like way to react that is very simple but also like mostly used.
And it's, yeah, and see.
Bueno, obviously.
We have seen some fillers, but there are more.
Sadly, we cannot like cover all of them in this video.
Oh, it would be an hour and a half long.
Yeah.
But we will like to finish with one that is like quite useful and is yeah and si.
And we use these just to show that we are following the conversation.
So it doesn't add any meaning.
It's just like, oh, yeah, I'm following.
So we can just not, but actually in Spanish we nod and also say yeah, and see.
Don't worry because we have an example here.
So what we're going to do is I am going to tell anabella story of what I'm going to do this weekend.
I'm just going to make it up on the spot.
Yeah, so that you can see the reactions that Annabel is having to my story.
And I'm also going to try to use the other expressions that we've seen.
Exactly.
Don't worry if you don't understand everything from the beginning
because then we will go back and analyze all the sentences.
So, yeah, for now, just listen out for those fillers that we have been studying.
Perfect.
Okay, well, what you're going to do this end of the month?
This end of the same time, Annabelle, me go to Paris.
Ah, that
Yeah, I go to Paris
to see a
Yeah,
and we're going to
visit many
museums.
Oh,
that good
Yeah,
but I think
it's going to
oh,
that's bad
yeah, no,
no,
I'm sorry,
so here we
could have seen
like some of
those like
see and
yeah,
I also have it
like said
uh-huh,
uh-huh
is the same
that
yeah
and see
and also
some other
reactions
can you
like tell us
a little bit
briefly
what you've said
in English?
Exactly. So I said, this
fine of the semester, I am going to go to Paris.
And so I haven't reacted.
I can remember what you said.
But I said like, oh, que bien, no?
Exactly, que bien. So it's one of the ones that we've seen.
And, yeah, I explained that I am going to go to Paris to see my friends.
So I'm going to see a my friend, so I'm going to see a my friend,
that's going to be there.
And then I said,
We're going to visit much
museums. So we are going to
visit plenty of museums.
And then the tone of the conversation
changed a little bit
because I remembered
that I saw that it was going to rain.
So I said,
But I think it's going to rain.
And that's not good news.
So that's why we reacted in a sad way.
Exactly.
And then I said,
I hope it doesn't rain.
And if you have seen the episode
of the subjunctive,
then you may know why.
I was using the subjunctive there.
But yeah,
I hope it doesn't rain.
Excellent.
So before finishing,
shall we just wrap up
and remember all the expressions
that we've seen?
Venga.
So to say really
and just to react
to show surprise
to something that
it's either good or bad,
we have,
En Serio,
what me dises,
and no me digas.
And depending on the tone,
no me digas,
or no me digas.
That's how you know.
And we have also
seen some reactions that are ke plus something else. For example, the one that I just mentioned
when you were talking about your weekend, it was ke mal. I'm sure that you know what mal is and it just
is please to say, oh no, how bad, no? And what rollo, which is how boring or what a pain.
What a pain. What a shame. And also one that you said that you liked a lot. Yeah.
What a mess. Excellent. So I think that's all for this video. Yeah. I think we've
covered some of the fillers as many as we could today.
Excellent.
Well, that's all for this video.
