Starting point is 00:08:54 Si-chise. Ayona, here we say patata. Papata. Okay, we'll be back in just a
Starting point is 00:09:23 moment. If you would like to take your learning of Spanish a stage further,
Starting point is 00:09:34 why not consider the Coffee Break Spanish Season 3 online course. This gives you access to a transcript of this episode along with language notes helping you understand what's been covered. There's also the Encore audio episode, which will allow you to practice what you've learned with some translation challenges. And of course, there are notes to accompany that too.
Starting point is 00:09:55 You can find out more about all of this at coffeebreakacademy.com. Okay, let's get on with the lesson. There, the things Good Always We're We're
Starting point is 00:10:18 about What's What's What I What's What I'm And as I'm
Starting point is 00:10:24 I'm I'm Question Number One Laura says That no She's
Starting point is 00:10:31 Sheena Sheena She know with Angel But Why? So
Starting point is 00:10:38 Why is Laura angry With Angel? is that enfadado or enfadada with someone. So let's make up the answer together. Laura is annoyed with Angel.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Try that part. Laura is ta enfadada with Angel. Okay, so why is she annoyed? Well, it's because Fiona hasn't even been 24 hours in the country in Spain. So Fiona hasn't even been 20 hours. 24 hours in Spain. The way you would say that would be, is not even 24 hours in Spain
Starting point is 00:11:24 or does not carry even 24 hours in Spain? So you remember the verb that you use for talking about the time that you've been doing something? It's Leverar. So she doesn't carry even 24 hours, not Levera. And then the word we can use here is Ni, ni 24 hours in Spain.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Fiona no java no 24 hours in Spain. And Angel is chatting her up. Now, the verb that Laura used was ligar with someone up, or it means to chat someone up, or it can mean also to make out with someone as well. It sort of depends on the situation. But let's use it anyway here. and Angel is chatting her up.
Starting point is 00:12:19 So, ligar with someone. Angel is laigando with her. So let's take the whole sentence. Laura is angry with Angel because Fiona hasn't even been 24 hours in Spain and Angel is chatting her up. Laura is infraded with Angel because Fiona no jina no jesus in Spain and Angel is still ligando with her.
Starting point is 00:12:56 let's move on to number two At the year Siguente Laura Vez A little more clear So we'll try to work out what the question means At the day
Starting point is 00:13:12 Sliante Laura Be the things A little more Clas So literally Laura sees the things A little more clear
Starting point is 00:13:22 She sees things more clearly In what way Okay So Laura Has realized has realized that Angel will always be like that. So to realize, the standard way of translating realize,
Starting point is 00:13:42 is to give oneself account of something. So Laura has realized the perfect tense here. We need to take Darse Quenta de and put it into the perfect. That becomes Laura, se has dado quenta, that angel will always be like that. So, Laura has done that
Starting point is 00:14:13 So Laura has done that the angel always is so the future
Starting point is 00:14:20 tense of said Laura has done that that that
Starting point is 00:14:24 she is so she understands what other people say about him
Starting point is 00:14:31 or what the others see so you could see maybe perhaps
Starting point is 00:14:41 now understand what did what do say what Perhaps now, Entienda, the subjunctive of
Starting point is 00:14:51 which follows, "'quizas, "'quizs now, "'entienda what they say, "'that which the others see. "'Quizas now, "'entienda what they say. "'Okay, the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:15:08 "'Laura has realized "'that angel will always be like that. "'Perhaps now, she understands what others see. "'Laura has done a point "'that that angel he always is a so perhaps
Starting point is 00:15:29 now understand what they're what they're what I'm question so a nice
Starting point is 00:15:40 straightforward question what does Ramon want and this is referring to the conversation that he has
Starting point is 00:15:46 with Laura in the bakery in the panaderia so in that case he wants to invite Laura
Starting point is 00:15:54 to go to the party with him or he wants to ask her to go to the
Starting point is 00:16:01 party So asking someone to do something in Spanish you use pedier a al-alien that aga-algo because there's two subjects involved so he wants to ask her that she accompanies him
Starting point is 00:16:19 so a little tricky Ramon wants to ask Laura let's just do that part and remember when you're asking someone for something. It's not asking a question which would be Preguntar, but requesting something, it's PEDIR.
Starting point is 00:16:40 So, Ramon wants to ask Laura. That becomes Ramon Kierre Pedirle a Laura. And notice that you have to use the Pedirle. You have to get the indirect object pronoun in there as well.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Ramon Kere Pedirle a Laura to go to the party with him or to accompany him to the party. Now, if you're thinking to go to the party is going to be an infinitive, then that's not quite right here because it's following this idea of beir to a someone that agamombeckiqa ago. So what we need to turn this whole freeze round to is Ramon wants to ask Laura that she accompany him to the party.
Starting point is 00:17:43 and the accompany part Accompanyar needs to be in the subjunctive So Ramon Quere pedirle a Laura that Le Accompany a fiesta
Starting point is 00:17:57 The Le here referring to Ramon Ramon Quere pedine a Laura that accompany to the fiesta So try that yourself Ramon wants to
Starting point is 00:18:13 ask Laura to go to the party with him Ramon He wants to hear him He'll come to the fiesta. Ramon has
Starting point is 00:18:32 an idea to be a laura in the primavera. What is your idea? So,
Starting point is 00:18:44 Ramon has an idea that will enable him to see Laura in springtime. What is his idea?
Starting point is 00:18:52 Well, Ramon could do an exchange in Scotland in order to practice his English.
Starting point is 00:19:00 So take the first part, Ramon could do an exchange. An exchange is, a interchamio. Ramon could make an interchamio in Scotland in
Starting point is 00:19:22 Scotland in order to practice his English for practicar his English. Nice and straightforward this one. Let's take the whole thing. Ramon could do an exchange in Scotland to practice his English. Ramon could do an interchange
Starting point is 00:19:50 in Scotia to practice his English Question number 5 How do the refrain of Ramon
Starting point is 00:19:59 So how does Ramon's say and go Well good friends are difficult to find more difficult
Starting point is 00:20:14 to leave and impossible to forget So start with good friends And remember in Spanish You would have to say The good friends
Starting point is 00:20:24 So the good friends are difficult to find. Remember that difficult has to agree with Los Buenos Amigos. Los Buenos Amigos are difficult to encounter. More difficult to leave. So the one we're going to use here is dejar. Mas difficult de dejar. And impossible to forget. So that becomes a impossiblees deolidar. And remember that it has to be
Starting point is 00:21:16 E impossibles. So you're replacing the word and with E so that it doesn't cause a problem running into impossibles. E impossibles de olivar. So the whole thing, good friends
Starting point is 00:21:32 are difficult to find, more difficult to leave and impossible to forget. Los Buenos Amigos are difficult to find, more difficult to to leave and impossible to forget.
Starting point is 00:21:59 And the ultimate question? What will to do Laura in when she will to Scotland? So what is Laura going to do as soon as she gets back to Scotland? Inquanto
Starting point is 00:22:14 plus the subjunctive is as soon as in quanto, in quanto willa, I scotia. So she's going to put the photos of her state in Spain and her Facebook so that Estella can see them. So take the first part.
Starting point is 00:22:34 She's going to put the photos of her stay in Spain in her Facebook. So the word for a stay is a stanza. So she is going to put the photos of her stay. Va to put the photos of her stay. In her Facebook. So that Estella can see them. So that's a little more complicated. That becomes an order that Estella can see them.
Starting point is 00:23:15 and the can has to of course be in the subjunctive. Para que Estela to see them verlas. It has to be las because we're talking about
Starting point is 00:23:27 Las photos. So the whole thing, she's going to put the photos of her stay in Spain in her Facebook so that Estella can see them.
Starting point is 00:23:45 He's to put the photos of her stanza in Spain in her Facebook for that Stella could be
Starting point is 00:23:52 her last. So that's it for this episode of Showtime Spanish and indeed for the series. Showtime Spanish has been a huge project, bringing people together from all around the world to record these episodes for you.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Sometimes when we're both in the studio, we might not be both in the same studio, so sometimes a continent separates where I am and where the person I'm talking to is. I'd like to say a huge thank you. Moutisimas gracias to everyone who's been involved in putting Showtime Spanish together. So to Carolina in Colombia,
Starting point is 00:24:31 To Juan in Mexico, to Loretto in Chile, to Sofia in Argentina, to Anna Isabel in Ecuador, to our whole Verano-Spanual team, that would be Belen, David, Victor, Katrina, Joanna, and of course Lorraine, and to the two people who have been with us from the very beginning, Alva and Jose, muchisimus gratis. At the risk of this beginning to sound like an Oscars acceptance speech, there is one group of people that we must. thank, and that is you, the listeners. Thanks for sticking with us right through the entire series
Starting point is 00:25:07 and we really hope that you've learned something that you've found it useful to you in developing your range of expression and your confidence in speaking in Spanish. There will be something more coming from Radio Lingua and you'll find out about that after the holiday season.
Starting point is 00:25:25 So one last time. Much thanks thanks. I hope that you've got this episode of Showtime Spanish. And And then, after another.
