Coffee Convos with Kail Lowry and Lindsie Chrisley - 1: Our First Coffee Convo--How We Met & Why We're Doing a Podcast
Episode Date: November 2, 2017On their first episode, Kail and Lindsie open up about how they became friends, and how reality TV helped them bond even though they have totally different backgrounds. They share why having ...time to just talk to each other without the kids is like therapy for them, and how they want the show to be a help to others who need a break from it all. They talk about how hard it is sometimes to be in the public eye--especially as parents. Plus, Lindsie has a yummy recipe she's raving about (and is confusing Kail). This is the first of many, so don't forget to subscribe and give them a 5-star review! Hey everybody, welcome to coffee combos.
This is Lindsay Crissly with my co-host, Kail Lowry.
Hey, guys.
We are doing our first ever podcast.
We are going to introduce the show to you guys and tell you everything that we're going to kind of talk about and cover on our podcast.
We don't even know where it's going to go because there's so many ideas about what we want to talk about.
And we come from completely different backgrounds, but we kind of have similar views and opinions on some things.
and I'm just excited to be able to talk to you on, you know, this platform.
It's different than reality TV, you know?
Absolutely.
So my background is from Chris Lowe's Best on USA Network.
And I'll just tell you a little bit about myself.
I got married very young at 22 years old.
I was still in college and graduated that summer with my bachelor's in business administration.
and my concentration was marketing.
And I was pregnant by Mother's Day.
So I kind of was venturing out into the world as a 22-year-old,
married, pregnant college graduate lady.
And then we started doing reality TV.
And so it was all kind of thrown at me at once.
So I kind of feel like at 28 years old that I am just kind of
finding my place in the world. Everything's kind of settled down for me. My little boy is about to be five,
and life is just settling down a little bit more than 22-year-old Lindsay. I mean, I feel like
my story is a little bit similar in the aspects of like everything thrown at us at once. I
found myself pregnant in high school and then had to go on to college and in college took a
little bit longer than I anticipated it to take, but kind of got thrown into reality TV as well.
So I got married when I was 20, and now I'm 25, divorced, and trying to figure out what's next
for me and what the future looks like for myself as a single mom of three boys.
So I don't know.
I'm excited because, Lindsay, we are both boy moms, so we kind of can relate on that level, too.
So it's more than just reality TV and being single.
And I have so much like mom stuff to talk about just being a boy mom.
I mean, I don't know about like the girl stuff at all.
I mean, when I even shop for birthday parties and stuff, like I have to text somebody for advice.
Like what do you get a 12 year old girl?
Yeah, I have no idea.
Yeah.
Like I don't even know.
Like I don't even know how to buy a Barbie or like what to do.
I'm my favorite question. Go ahead. Go ahead. Like, I could buy any, send me to the boy owl, and I'm like a pro. Oh, yeah. But send me to the girl out, no idea.
Oh, my favorite question is when people ask me like, what's it like to be a mom of boys? And I'm like, okay, well, my house will forever smell like dirty socks and the toilet seats will always be left lifted up. So I'm just like, I'm going to lose my mind for the next 18 years. It's fine. No big deal.
And I'm just like, I told Jackson the other day, I said literally, if I find another toilet seat that's left up, I swear, like, you're paying me to put the toilet seat down because it's ridiculous.
Like, there is pee everywhere. There is wipeies everywhere that I don't know if they have fecal matter on them or not. It's just weird stuff that you find in the bathroom. Like I sent kale a picture of four chapsticks that were like,
lined up the other day that Jackson had got in there.
Who knows what he did with him and had mixed and matched the tops?
It's like what exactly goes through their brains?
I have no idea.
Lindsay, just to catch the audience up on everything, I think our audience might be curious
about how we met and how we became friends.
So like how did we become friends?
That's what I'm saying.
I don't even know.
It's like we live in this crazy world of reality TV and somehow
maybe Twitter? I don't know.
Yeah, I think Twitter.
And then, like,
Havi is a fan of
the show that I was on.
So I think, you know,
that kind of attributed to it.
And then, yeah, I think just like
the mutual interest of both being young girls,
like on reality TV with kids.
Yeah, I mean, I feel like I followed
maybe you and your dad on Twitter or something
and then I don't even know.
But we are friends and we talk all the time
and we text each other about our crazy kids
and the stupid things that they do
and the stupid things that they say.
And the funny things they say.
Like Jackson and Lincoln are, like they literally need their own show.
Oh, I agree.
Jackson this weekend was, like his behavior was atrocious.
And when I tell you it was so bad, I wanted to check myself into like the federal penitentiary in Atlanta because it would have been a vacation.
Swear to God.
I told him that I was, that he was going to military school.
Like he's five years old.
There is no military school for five year olds.
So I blatantly lied.
He believed it.
I told him that he was going to be called Cadet Campbell.
And no one would even know him as Jackson.
I mean, do what you got to do.
Like, you just have to, like, threaten them, I feel like.
But, I mean, he is a very strong will child,
and I feel like you have that with Lincoln, too.
So that's something that we definitely have in common.
Oh, yeah.
Lincoln's a firecracker for sure.
But I actually, I mean, as fun as the kids are and to talk about being a mom,
I definitely want to, like, talk about other things, too.
We got to, the audience wants to see us outside of being moms, you know?
Like, they only know us as moms from teens.
mom too and Chrissy knows best.
I think with that too, it's like people follow you on social media and they feel like they
are a part of your life and you do have these social platforms to have people involved in your
life and to be able to, you know, communicate with your fans on kind of like a more large,
you know, basis.
But people, if they see an individual photo of you, it's like, where's your kid or, you know,
where's such and such or, you know, why aren't you home or why aren't you here?
It's like, this is our jobs.
This is what we do.
Like, I just don't understand.
It's not like I'm not with my child 24-7, but just because I post a photo that doesn't, you know,
I post a photo that doesn't maybe resonate with a particular person and, you know, they've got
something negative to say about it or whatever.
It's like I have more to myself.
than just being a mom.
And I feel like it's taken me 28 years.
Well, I mean, since I was basically 23, I've been a mom,
but it's taking me until Jackson was almost five years old to realize that I am more than just a mom.
Yeah.
I think what connects you and me so well is just that we can relate on not only a personal level as like moms,
young moms, but also because we are both on reality TV and we can kind of relate.
in all aspects.
You know, we don't really trust people too much.
You know, if we don't know them already from, separate from like the show, we don't know
what people's intentions are.
We don't know, you know, we get on social media and we read comments from crazy people
who have a lot of things to say and a lot of negative things to say.
And so we can relate on those aspects as well.
So I don't know.
I feel like people.
Well, and I feel like you kind of like your friend group changes.
Yeah.
Because unless they were truly like.
like your real friend before, and I don't know about you, but, you know, unless someone was truly
my real friend before, I don't have a desire or need to be friends with him. And that's not saying
it in an ugly way, but I don't, if they weren't my real friend before TV, then they aren't
my real friend while I was on TV or whatever I'm doing. I find myself communicating with
people, you know, like kale that have common things in common with also, you know, being on
another show and they kind of know how it is and what the expectation is. And as many people out
there that think it's like a gravy train and, you know, everything's so easy and, you know,
it's just all handed. That's not true at all. The amount of work that is put in behind the
scenes is astronomical, the amount that is required of you and just personally of you, you find yourself
as a woman, I think especially more for girls than it is boys, whenever you, you know,
have any type of, you know, whether it be small or large, any type of public platform,
I feel like you find yourself wanting to do things to make yourself look better or, you know,
somebody says like, oh, you have, you know, an ugly nose or, you know, you are going to, you are
too skinny or you are too fat or you are too this you know you find yourself getting trapped into
that criticism and it consumes you it consumes you yeah absolutely i agree and you think you don't and
you think that like you're ignoring all of the negativity but really the there could be a hundred
good comments but if there's one bad one you focus on that one bad thing and i think that's
what people get they don't understand because i've seen comments on twitter
even that it's like, I've said 10 positive things about you and I tweet you one negative thing
and you finally respond, like way to go.
But it's like I don't know what it is in us that like makes us gravitate towards reading
the negative comments and then we keep reading the negative comments.
But I guess misery loves company and that's they're getting exactly what they want is bringing us down.
And I feel like we need to focus on trying to be more positive.
Well, I think so too.
And I think, too, whenever you find like a friend group that you can kind of, that can relate to the type of negativity that you get and you can kind of bounce it off of each other and make it more humorous.
Like this person literally doesn't know me from Adam, but yet they're talking about my tennis shoe.
Like, stop being such a loser and worrying about my shoes and worry about what's going on in your own life.
Like, there's nothing going on in your own life that is more important than talking about my tennis shoe.
Like, that's weird.
Actually, I get criticism a lot for my bad skin.
And I'm like, I can't help it.
I get taunted for my bad skin.
I'm like, I literally can't help it.
I've been on, I've tried everything.
But bioclarity is a good product that actually is starting to help save my skin.
And it has natural ingredients and it has crazy great benefits.
Antioxidants found in green tea to detoxify your skin.
And it has cooling cucumber to soothe and hydrate.
Okay.
So bioclarity is a three-step face-wash acne system.
Bioclarity doesn't use benzoyal peroxide, which causes redness and dryness and irritation,
which I had all of those things.
And so it's helping, you know, soothe and calm my skin, and I have super big pores.
And so it's helping to close them a little bit.
So it's suitable for all skin types, and it's dermatologist developed, tested and recommended.
It's 100% vegan and cruelty-free, which is PETA certified.
It's also gluten-free and paraben-free.
And yeah, I've been using this to help clear my skin,
and I'm excited to keep using it to see what happens.
And I'm super excited for you, too,
because I know that's something that you have personally struggled with.
That's something that you've gotten criticism over,
which is absolute shenanigans.
I say that I would not wish bad skin on my worst enemy
because that is something that so many people are self-complicated.

Bioclurity.com.
You texted me earlier about your crockpot recipe, and it was something like white chili or something?
Tell me about it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, you know, with our schedules being so busy, I know your schedule's super busy and I'm super busy, always on the road.
I'm like, my job is a taxi.
I'm not like a full-time mom.
I'm also a full-time taxi.
So, you know, I like to be able to put a meal on before.
I leave the house and it cook all day and the crock pot turned itself off super easy.
But I had been wanting to try white chicken chili because I freaking hate beef chili.
But what's the white?
I don't get it.
So it's totally like, it's totally different.
So instead of using like in, do you know what like regular chili is?
Well, yeah.
I think everyone knows what regular chili is.
But what's the white part?
Okay.
So instead of using like all the red stuff, use like white stuff.
Like Alfredo sauce?
It's no, kale, it's not Alfredo.
It's chicken breast.
And then the sauces are like half and half and reduced fat cream cheese and it's got like corn in there and green chilies.
And they're like white northern beans instead of like those weird like brown ones that look really skis.
Um, garlic, yellow onion. It's got a bunch of stuff in there. It's really good, though. But it kind of, it did take me a little bit of prep time because I had to chop up all of that stuff. But there are grocery stores that have like the pre-chop stuff if you're like one of those people that like to get all the pre-chopped. Um, but it smells so good. And I tried it. I turned the crock pot off like an hour ago. And I tried it. And it was probably like one of my favorite things.
Does Jackson eat? Is this a meal that I need to try from?
my children or is this something that is like adults only? So I mean if we're being honest
probably he won't eat it. He would probably eat like the corn off of it and I could make him,
I mean not the corn like maybe like a little bit of the corn and then the chicken and I could make him
you know like a little bit of rice but he probably wouldn't eat like the soup because it's it's a little
spice. Do your kids like spicy food? No my kids don't like anything. Like Jackson acts like he
He's got a massive house fire going on in his mouth if he, like, taste anything that's spicy.
Yeah, that's my kids too.
They're so picky.
But I know so many people have asked me for recipes in the past for things that I've cooked that I've put on Instagram and stuff like that.
So I thought that weekly since I've been doing this crock pot thing until further notice, I'm going to give you guys some recipes to try that might be something different than.
things that you don't cook at home or maybe you might cook it and it might be a better recipe
than what I have and I'm open to suggestions too.
Well, I'm excited to try this recipe and we can talk about it next week on our podcast.
Yes, you should try it and I'm going to give everyone our Instagram because we can post
the recipe on the Instagram and it's just at Coffee Combo's podcast.
So it's at C-O-F-F-E-C-O-N-V-O-S.
podcast, P-O-D-C-A-S-T.
And I will be posting the recipe on there for you guys to try and let me know if you like it or if you don't like it.
Just probably don't tell me.
Just probably don't tell us.
I'll try it, though.
I want my kids to try it too and I'll let you know what their reviews are.
Well, I really like making, like, healthy things.
Like, I like to eat healthy.
It makes me feel good.
I feel like Jackson's a pretty healthy kid eater.
He eats some weird stuff that like normal kids wouldn't eat.
Probably don't, yeah.
But that's because I eat good.
So I think it's just routine.
But I always hate to see, you know, whenever we go out to dinner,
I hate for him to be like, I want chicken nuggets or something like that.
It's like, no, like diversify your palate, son.
Like get something good.
That's something I was a chicken.
chicken nugget kid and I think that's why I don't eat so well right now and my kids need to do better.
So I think these weekly recipes will help me too.
Yes.
And don't you feel bad about yourself that you want the chicken nugget kids?
Thanks a lot, Lynn.
Yeah.
Like you were the chicken, you were the girl who ate chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese every meal.
Basically, that's all I had.
It's fine.
And I was like, go, give me, palates now.
You should.
You should.
It makes you feel good.
Make you feel good about yourself.
It's like, oh, you know, I ventured out and I tried some sushi today or, you know, whatever.
And if you don't like it, then you just know not to try it again.
Food isn't really the only concern when it comes to our kids, huh?
Like, ever since we've been moms, it's like everything we take into consideration.
We talk about food concerns.
We talk about health, you know, from that stuff to the best schools to what's going on in the world.
And I feel like as a mom, I'm nervous about like what's going on in the world and how that kind of affects the kids too.
Well, I feel like I've always, just as a human being, I've always been like anxiety Allen.
Like I always think like the sky is falling.
But especially after I had Jackson and even throughout my pregnancy, you know, it was like whatever doctor's appointment I was going to, you know, for the testing and, you know,
trisomey and down syndrome testing and all that kind of stuff, it was like, you know,
what was the next thing that could scare me? And then it was like everything was okay. And then,
you know, the next thing would come up. And, you know, it's all their little milestones that,
like, make you scared. And at least for me, you know, like walking, I'm like, oh, my God, he's going
to knock a tooth out, like, before he, like, even has teeth. Or, you know, it's just, I have the
worst anxiety ever. And when I see all of this, like, crazy stuff,
come on the news about, you know, these mass shootings or school shootings or, you know, I saw
this weird story about like a local highway, how this woman was driving to work at 8 a.m.
and a tire from the other side of the highway, like flew off a truck and killed her, like killed
her driving down the road.
And it's like, okay, this stuff just has to stop.
Like, my anxiety can't take it because I'm literally going to go into a heart attack.
Like, I mean.
I just...
I won't even...
I didn't bring the two older boys with me to L.A. this past week because I was nervous about...
You know, L.A. is a super populated in high traffic area.
So I was like, you know, nervous that who knows what could happen at any given time, you know?
Well, yeah. And you always...
For me, I always think, like, worst case scenario because anything that's better than the worst case scenario is, like, good, which is like a weird mind.
mindset to have, but as a mom, that's kind of what I think of. And it's like, you know, when I decided
to put Jackson in preschool because he needed the socialization, because he is an only child and it's good
for them, it's like the things that I were looking at were, you know, security, you know, like what type
of security features do they have? Do they have, you know, a protocol in the event that someone
happened to get into the school past security, what they would do? You know, I mean, it is
terrifying. No, I agree. I agree. I mean, just for the reunion for teen mom this weekend, Joe,
Hobby and I were all here. And so if anything happened, it would be, you know, all of us. And I
wouldn't want to leave the kids, you know, without parents or anything crazy like that.
That goes back, too, to like the social media stuff, you know? It's like when you're so active
on social media and you want to stay, you know, up to date, like keep your fans.
up to date with what you're doing and that kind of stuff.
It's like you're opening up your world to even more, like for the average person,
you're even more susceptible.
I hate to say it for something to happen because people can kind of pinpoint with these
locations and location features on social media.
If you post where you are, they can find you, you know, who knows, we could have people
out that have hits on us.
Like you don't know, you know?
I mean, it's scary and it's dangerous.
And I just, I'm worried for myself and not just my kid, but for myself too, because I just, it's scary.
So I'm just glad we can do this podcast together because I feel like we can talk about so many things and mother to mother.
And just as like women, too, like we relate on so many levels.
And I'm excited to see kind of where this podcast goes and use it as kind of like therapy.
Me too.
And I think just like on a weekly basis to be able to have an outlet to go to, to be able to relate to people on a more personal level, be able to relate to each other on a, you know, personal level, be able to talk about things that are current life things that are going on for us, current events, just, you know, everything.
I think it's going to be so great. And I would also like to share our press email so that if anybody has any top.
that you feel like we could talk about or any type of suggestions or inquiries. You can email us at
Coffee Combo's Press at gmail.com. And we look forward to talking with you guys next week on
Coffee Combos. See ya. Bye.
