Starting point is 00:00:00 I hate gift giving and receiving. Receiving gifts is so weird. What do you say thank you? This is coffee convoes with Kail Lowry and Lindsay Crisley. I really want you to be in your feels, Kail. That does not interest me whatsoever. I feel very attacked by you. A spirited discussion about motherhood, friendship, family, and life in the public eye.
Starting point is 00:00:18 I'm just not with the fakery anymore. There's a fakery bakery around here. Here's Kail and Lindsay. I'm solo today. Lindsay is handling some shit. She's going through some stuff. There's no friendship fallouts. There's no drama.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Just told her to take the day. Go handle her stuff. And I would take care of coffee compost podcast by myself. So wish me luck, okay? Because I already did a solo episode for Barely Famous for this Friday. So talking to myself for another hour straight might be a little challenging. So I'm just going to do my best. And with that, I'm going to start this episode with some questions that I have seen you guys
Starting point is 00:00:57 ask on Facebook specifically. And shout out to Heather Lomeyer, because. She sent me the screenshot and then as soon as I got on Facebook, it was the first thread that popped up. And some of the questions are as follows, okay, from supportive pineapple. And that person said, I think there are a lot of unanswered questions that we all have. Like Kristen was briefly mentioned on Southern Tea, but Kale never spoke about her. Are they still on good terms? Kristen has stepped away to focus on her health across the board.
Starting point is 00:01:26 So for me personally, for Lindsay personally, for coffee combos as a business and then Southern as a business. She has stepped away entirely. I did ask her about two days ago if I could give an update because that is not my story to tell. That is not my place. And she did say it was fine. She had her gold bladder out. She's having some complications. Again, like, I don't want to talk about someone's health if they're not wanting to talk about it. So she has posted some stuff over on her stories on Instagram asking for advice for gold bladder removal and the acid reflux that has been coming since then. Like I said, she responded and said I could give a little update and I'll read to you what was said exactly. And I said, do I have permission to say you're focused on your health or
Starting point is 00:02:09 are you willing to put something out? And she said that I could say that. So say all that to say, Kristen is doing the best that she can. Moving on, let me see what else is on this list. So IMA or IMA, I'm also been wondering the same. I'm wondering if she replaced Kristen. So Rebecca, not to be confused with Becky. Becky is also Rebecca, but they're two different Rebecca's. Okay. Rebecca that I speak of that is a part of killer was actually hired for Kristen. So Kristen had so much going on that I was like, we need to get you an assistant, basically.
Starting point is 00:02:45 And so when Kristen left, Rebecca and I have been tackling all of the things that Kristen can no longer work on. And so Rebecca has been with Killer Network, well, I guess Kailen Lowry for over a year now. And so she was originally hired for Kristen. Now Kristen is not here. And so Rebecca and I are just tackling all of the things together. She was never meant to replace anyone just to help even further. And so a lot of people are asking about the killer team. If you go to killer entertainment.com, you can click on the tab that says meet the team.
Starting point is 00:03:22 and it has everyone that's there what their roles are. So there's no confusion. And then Kristen with an IN said what happened to Kristen. And then Melissa said, I need to know that as well. So I hope that gives you a little bit of insight of what is going on. Kristen, again, just to summarize everything, has taken a step back to focus on her health. She has taken a step back from me personally, Lindsay personally, coffee combos as a business, and Southern Tea as a business. I also asked Alisa, who helps with the Facebook groups, for some foul play stories that we could get into on this episode.
Starting point is 00:03:57 And so she was able to, one, post for questions and two, post for lots of foul plays today. Okay. Some questions that you guys are asking. What savings plan or program do you ladies use for your kiddos? I want to set up a college fund because not everyone goes to college. Because not everyone goes to college. I want them to have options. Lindsay, what is your comfort series? I have rewatched Homeward Girls and Army Wives a million times
Starting point is 00:04:22 over. Kiel, is there a book? You can read over and over and not get sick of it. I feel like I can only read them once. That's from Melissa Lennhart. I feel the same way. I have books that I would read a second time, but I need to get through my TBR and reading books for the first time first before I go back for seconds. I kind of feel the same way about vacations too. We don't want to go back to the same place I've already gone 12 times, right? Like I want to go somewhere new and then make seconds. The college program look into a, I think it's called like a 529 or a 527. I think it's a 529. Don't quote me on that. That's in Pennsylvania and it's basically like a college fund where you like lock into whatever price the tuition is now. And there, I think there are like some sort of fees and penalties
Starting point is 00:05:07 if you choose not to use it for college, but it is like a specifically for college, I believe. I'm not doing anything like that. I have an estate plan with a trust. It's, not entirely too expensive to do. I would look into that because you can also get your kids life insurance. And I don't know how many of you guys know this, but you can borrow against your own life insurance. And I don't know, I know every single insurance situation is different, but like all my kids have life insurance policies. And then I have a life insurance policy. They will be able to borrow against them. The sooner you start it, the more money they will have to be able to borrow against. So if you have a toddler versus Elliott, right? Like Elliot 16, he's not going to be able to tap into it like the twins will be when they turn 18 because I got his life insurance pretty late. So that's a great option. Also, if you are interested, like check out like an Edward Jones situation or I think I don't know what Merrill Lynch. But there are plenty. Actually, talk to Becky's sister because she might be able to help as well. What's a new recipe? Kail has tried lately or a recipe she wants to attempt to make.
Starting point is 00:06:16 I need to make potato salad and I still just haven't had time. I want to make potato salad. Homemade potato salad. What else do I want to try to make? I did the bake mac and cheese. I did Tini's recipe. I felt like it was a little too cheesy for me. So if I tweaked that a little bit and then I also asked his sister-in-law for her chicken
Starting point is 00:06:36 cutlet recipe. I don't know. I feel like I'm going to be good at chicken cutlets probably because it's basic as fuck. What's the best advice you were given and how has it impacted your life? Well, I would like to say, don't worry about what you can't control was the best advice, but I still worry about what I can't control. Strike while the iron is hot. I feel like I'm still striking. The iron is still warm right now.
Starting point is 00:07:02 If you lend somebody money, consider it a gift because you're probably not going to get it back. What's other advice? Your kids are only little for this long, so soak up every single moment you can because at some point they won't be here anymore. in the home and like spending time with you. And so that's how I justify like letting my kids still sleep in my room or like taking a mental health day. It's like they're not going to be like this little for long. So one big piece of advice that has always resonated with me was when I was at the homeless shelter in eastern Pennsylvania, my cousin from New Jersey came in and was helping me like apply for like grants and the FAFSA for community.
Starting point is 00:07:46 community college. She told me to never have myself in a position ever again where I have to depend on a man for money because at the drop of a hat or in the middle of the night, if I need to leave, I would never be able to leave. And so she always told me to make sure that I have the funds to take care of myself no matter what. So I know that sounds way easier said than done, but that's sort of why I don't know if you guys know I worked through teen mom all the way up until I had Lincoln. And then once I had Lincoln, I was writing books. I was starting a podcast. I tried the hair care line. Like, I was always doing something to figure out how I would pay my bills if team mom ended today. And so even if you have like a little part time job, it's easier said than done.
Starting point is 00:08:36 I come, I'm speaking from a place of privilege at this point. I recognize that it's a lot harder. It was harder for me 10 years ago. Kail, your birthday is next month. Any plans? Welp. took off the whole week and was planning to go to Bali or somewhere really cool and then shit hit the fan. Kristen took a step back and I decided I will be working for my birthday week. I'm supposed to go to Alabama to film a show with Matt. So that's what we're going to be doing for my birthday week is working. Can we get an introduction on who is who in the Killer Network, who is Rebecca? What does each person do? Again, killer entertainment.com. It has everybody's roles. who they are, what they do.
Starting point is 00:09:17 What is the most memorable thing you have experienced together? Well, I met Lindsay in person after we signed working contracts for this podcast. And so that is always like ingrained in my brain was that we never met in person when we signed the contracts, which I think is funny. And then the most memorable thing you guys have experienced together. Honestly, we've experienced so much Lux coming to Atlanta every month for recordings. We used to batch record for like six to eight episodes in one single visit of me and Lux going to Atlanta. One time I got liposuction while I was awake and in Atlanta and Lindsay was
Starting point is 00:09:59 in the other room. That was definitely a memory I'll never forget. It was like leaking out of holes in my body and it was very interesting. I'm trying to think what else? Telling Lindsay that I was pregnant with the twins on camera. I don't know if you guys remember that on our Instagram, but I had told her, I told the photographer, we were there. I was in Atlanta for content and we were taking pictures at this like donut place. And I said,
Starting point is 00:10:28 I told her, pulled the photographer aside and I was like, I need to record this. Like I'm about to tell Lindsay I'm pregnant with twins. And so we're like up against this fence and we're taking pictures. And I'm like, okay, everyone say Kail's pregnant with twins and was smiling so big.
Starting point is 00:10:44 and she was like, what the fuck, like the most insane way. Is this the first time you're hearing this? Yeah. Ike is in the room. And he's hearing this for the first time. That was exciting. Winning a Webby Award for Coffee Cumbos podcast. Honestly, I'm just trying to think about all the things.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Finding out that the twins were both boys and then they weren't was with Lindsay. Lindsay was there. Chime is changing the way people bank. BetMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with Eye Gaming Ontario. Oh, we had a teen mom reunion one time in New York, I think it was, where the entire teen mom cast was there. And I had to be there and I needed to do coffee combo stuff there too. So I was trying to make this one business trip work for teen mom and for coffee combos. But shit hit the fan on this teen mom set and I left. Like I literally left.
Starting point is 00:13:44 I did not attend the reunion. I did not do whatever it was for coffee combos podcast. We got in the fucking sprinter van. I took my entire family, Natalie, everybody, and we fucking left. Don't remember what hit the fan, but I want to say it was some fuck shit that they were planning. And I was not about to do the whole like Kale, Bree, Brittany situation all over again. So I was like, I'm out. And I left. I didn't participate. I'm not. trying to think what else like Lindsay and I the stomach bug when I had the stomach bug in Chattanooga and I had to go to a walk-in clinic and I'm like shitting all over the place. We were filming with Macy and Lindsay Nicholson who was previously on Team 16 to
Starting point is 00:14:25 pregnant and so it was Macy was in town and just it was I was shitting in the toilet and leaning into the sink and throwing up like genuinely I had to get if you guys remembered my friend Mark, my old friend Mark, he was in our hotel room. And I was like, I cannot have this man in this hotel room while I'm shitting and throwing up at the same time. And so we had to call the maintenance man because I'm literally throwing up in the sink and it won't go down the drain. And I'm shitting my pants. And Mark had to get his own room. And then the maintenance man had had to come at like two in the morning. Kristen's like telling the guy what's going on, the maintenance guy. Poor Lindsay is probably gagging and throwing up. Who knows? Um,
Starting point is 00:15:07 So we've had some good times. We really have had some good times. Do Kayle and Lindsay have plans for an international live show? Here's the thing. Lindsay doesn't travel. Lindsay does not travel abroad. The furthest she's ever going to go is Mexico or Hawaii. So I'm going to answer for her and say probably not.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Becky and I will be in London in August if we can get a venue. We have not had any luck finding a venue yet. But I would guess that Lindsay and I will probably not go international. She's more than welcome to join in on the London trip. But I also just wonder that London is probably not Lindsay's vibe. Lindsay's a very much like chill by the pool vacationer. Like she's not going to go do all the activities. I want to be up at 6 a.m.
Starting point is 00:15:50 and go ziplining through the rainforest. Okay. Like that's what I want to do. On vacation, we got shit to do. What's one small win that you've had this week that made you feel like you were totally winning at life? Probably when I slept in on Sunday until 8.30. That was the top of my weekend. Okay, I love this one. Every victory, big or small. I got to sleep in, and then I was at the top of my game. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Georgina says, I find it interesting that Adderall isn't even allowed in Germany. We can only choose between Vivance or Ritalin. I'm an unmedicated. I am unmedicated, but I'm struggling more and more. So I'm thinking about getting a prescription. My son will be diagnosed and the doctors have mentioned medication beforehand, but I'm not sure I want my kids to be medicated as I don't see them as severe kids. cases. This is so difficult. This is really interesting to me because here in the U.S. we can do this thing called gene site or genocite. It's spelled G-E-N-E-S-I-G-H-T. And this goes for like pretty much any medication. You can go be swabbed and it'll check with your DNA and biology with medicine to see which one would be more sufficient. And so I personally have not had a good experience on V-V-A-V-V-A-Ns. I know it works very well for a lot of people. And for me, it just doesn't work. So if I'm going to Germany and I live in Germany, Vibance is already out. What if Ritalin also doesn't work? Then what is the alternative for people who are struggling,
Starting point is 00:17:16 but those two options don't work, right? Like, that feels really challenging. Tell me about all of your favorite family vacation spots. I'm looking for something around nine hours or less from us. We are located in the Virginia Tech area of Virginia. However, I'm open to all the ideas. We are planning for May, we're burnout on the beach, and our oldest just started playing college ball by the ocean. I can't help you with this. I don't know anything that's around there. That's like maybe outer banks, like North Carolina outer banks for vacation or like South Carolina. I don't know. I don't have an answer for that one. Oh, what are everyone's thoughts on dating, on someone dating one of their siblings' friends, off limits, or is this okay?
Starting point is 00:18:05 You wouldn't want your friend to date your sister? Ike is saying he would not want any of his friends to date a sister. What if one of your friends wanted to date your brother? Like a girl that's a friend wanted to date one of your brothers. Obviously when they were single, they're not single. Yeah, when they were single. No. What about your cousin?
Starting point is 00:18:22 Could your friends date your cousins? Yeah. That's fine. Not siblings. Okay. Some of the answers in here are saying, I had a baby with my best friend's older brother, ended terribly in every way possible. Yikes.
Starting point is 00:18:35 teens, early 20s, off limits, late 20s or after, everyone's frontal lobes are fully developed. Go for it. I think I can get behind that. I do think I can get behind like we're talking 27 and up. I feel like that's okay because your frontal lobes should be developed. My dad was friends with my mom's brother before they got married. My dad was friends with my mom's brother. Okay. Yeah, I can see that. The only off limit should be friends dating exes or crushes of yours. I wouldn't care if my friend wanted to date my siblings. I think it sounds good in theory. Like you're like, okay, we're going to be sisters. But then it's like, okay, no, because if this ends badly, it could be really freaking bad. My brother is married to his best friend's sister. His friend was a little annoyed at first,
Starting point is 00:19:24 but now they're over it. Now he just gets to see his friend for holidays and other family events. I mean, what if like your best friend was like, I want to make your sister the happiest person? person in the world. Like, you wouldn't allow it? Just flat out no. Like, no explanation. Just like, you're going to die on my hell. Okay, hold on. Let me pull up some more. These are, all of these things are coming from the coffee combos Facebook group. So if you're not already in there, Carmen says, hi, Kale, this is my first time posting in a group, but I had to let you know that you are right about West Virginia. I listened to January 22nd's episode and around 34 minutes you mentioned driving through West Virginia feeling like you could hide a body here.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Well, true crime girlies, I have a rabbit hole for you if you desire. A girl I went to junior high slash high school with here in Parkersburg, West Virginia is missing. She's been missing since 12-4-22. And there's strong evidence of who the guy is that took her, but here's the thing, y'all. It's not just the lack of CCTV footage in small towns. It's the connections within the police force with tight communities, and that's all I'll say. There are. some links I'll include for anyone who is interested to follow this. Apparently, private investigators are hired and currently involved in the corruption here for missing women because Gretchen isn't the only local one. We have Kimberly Jones and Judy Petty being looked into too. Despite all the years that have
Starting point is 00:20:50 passed, there is a TikTok, there is a live TikTok tonight, Sunday, February 15th. Sorry, I know this is the day after on West Virginia investigations. I'm telling you, when we drove through West Virginia, there was no CCTV, like there was no ring cameras. There was. There was no ring cameras. There was. no nothing and Kristen and I looked at each other and we were like you could go missing and just scatter the body like and animals are going to get it no one's going to find it there's so much land there's so much hills there's woods there's everything and lokia said the same thing about Alabama when we went to go visit matt like you could do this that's terrifying because there is no CCTV out there and so then I wonder about Nancy Guthrie Guthrie Guthrie the woman missing in
Starting point is 00:21:33 Arizona and talked to my friend Ray and she was like, there's no CCTV camera footage where she went missing. So all of that is actually terrifying. Oh my God. Okay. So I cannot get ready for bed. And we put on the Olympics and I live under a rock. So I'm not even aware that the Olympics are happening right now. I thought they just happened in Europe like Paris, but apparently this is the winter Olympics and they're different. And first of all, ball what channel was that hulu like i don't even know so ike is saying that we were on hulu and it was this thing where it's like a roller coaster but your like feet are locked into these skis and you go down this like hill and then you like fly like a flying squirrel and i just want to know like when this
Starting point is 00:22:24 sport was started what they were thinking because the way that i what are you doing like what is how so you're locked in and you're going down this fucking thing and then you just like squat and then you're flying through the air like what ski jumping yeah you gotta tell them that they're going off of there it's like this like roller coaster ramp thing but they're just like vertical in the air and then they're like horizontal with their skis and i just i don't understand and like multiple countries do this and i'm just wondering how and why and like what would compel someone to want to do this sport because I feel like I would just eat shit. So would you try it? No. I feel like I would try it. All right. I answer that quickly.
Starting point is 00:23:15 I feel like you have to be a certain weight. I'm not the weight that is recommended for ski jumping. Okay. Not. But I want to know how multiple countries decided they were going to do this. How is it even a sport? You're just, you're not skis with no... Poles.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Yeah, I'm just... blown away, truly. That's what I'm, that's what I'm just trying to say here is that I didn't know this was a thing. And I, there's a reason why it's an Olympic sport, but the question that I'm having is how did it become an Olympic sport? Because who decided that we were going to do this? It's actually, like, honestly, upsetting because not everyone is going to have the opportunity to try this, right? Like, this isn't figure skating. This isn't running. This is ski jumping. And like, why would anyone how do you even become good at that? You know what I mean? As a parent, I don't need to tell you how busy you are. You already know, and our next
Starting point is 00:24:10 partner makes meal time for my kids so much easier and way more enjoyable. My kids are wildly picky. I've talked about it so many times on this podcast. And now they don't really want to do anything. So I was desperate to figure out what to introduce them to for better, healthier varieties of foods. And that's where nurture life comes to play. Okay. This has Vivance talk, and this is posted in the coffee compost fan group.
Starting point is 00:27:06 I just started back on my VyVance after being off of it for eight months due to insurance issues. Anyway, the one struggle I had was the eating. One of the side effects of Vyvance is anorexia. When I was on it before, I had lost about 15 pounds. I got down to skin and bones. There were times when I first started that I hadn't eaten a real meal, maybe just a bite or two of something and just water, tons of water in three days. during the eight months I didn't take it. I did gain 10 pounds back.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Well, this go around, I'm noticing I'm not wanting to eat again and don't want to lose drastic weight again either, maybe 5 pounds. But I have a workaround. I, of course, try to remind myself to eat at least a little something if it crosses my mind, but I'm always so busy. But I've been doing well at smoking a bit of marijuana at night when I'm ready for bed. One, it's my sleeping med. I can't sleep if I don't smoke. And now I give into the munchies by choice. If you know, you know.
Starting point is 00:27:59 Okay. So I'll also say this on my Adderall and or Vibance. I also don't eat. I don't know if it would help, but like maybe you could take your meds with a protein. That's what Alessandra taught me to do. But also I don't get hungry on my meds either. So I've been unmedicated for four days and I've eaten everything in sight.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Don't you agree? You wouldn't stop eating yesterday? All I wanted to do was eat yesterday. I also have my period to be. fair. So it's like, like, I don't know. But tell them your definition of a snack at this point. Are you judging me? Just tell them your definition.
Starting point is 00:28:36 I asked for a snack last night. And by snack, I meant parogis. And they were the Isaacs, I'll call them, were very upset by this. They said that wasn't a snack, that Elliot was making cookies. And if I wanted a snack, I needed to eat that. And I said, no, like I wanted parogis. No, I'm not pregnant. I had my tubes cut out. I just am unmedicated right now. I'm unmedicated right out and I also have my period. So if y'all could just bear with me, I may have a weight fluctuation coming up soon. Okay. Let me go read some foul plays. Okay. So I have my foul play on my honeymoon. On my honeymoon, I started my period and wanted to go swimming, never wore a tampon, figured, okay, I can do this one time. Nobody ever told me to take the cardboard applicator off after placement.
Starting point is 00:29:22 So I came back from swimming and, oh my God. Oh, my God. Um, nobody else. ever told me to take the cardboard applicator off after placement. So I come back from swimming and pull it out and it stuck and had to get my new husband to pull it out. I don't know what I would do if sogging wet cardboard was stuck into my vagina. I am so sorry and sympathize, empathize, feel so bad because nobody also taught me how to use a tampon. Like I figured it out myself in like sixth grade, like seventh grade. I'm like trying to figure out how to use a fucking tampon. Um, that's horrendous. And I'm so sorry. And they probably didn't have the plastic applicators at that time because I want to say that happened in like, I got my period in sixth grade. So it came sometime after that. And so I am so sorry that that happened to you. Um, I hope he laughed about it. I hope he didn't make you feel like shit. Okay. Ashley typed in a foul play as well. And she says, I was on the phone with my friend who lives states away and we were mindlessly chatting about girl stuff. She was nervous. She's pregnant and I've been begging her for days to just get a test because she's always on time. So called to say she, oh, so she called to say she started and was just two days late. She told me she's on the way to the dude's house and me out of nowhere goes, what's his penis look like? As he answered the door, he says, hi, Ashley. I'm sure I'm sure she'll tell you later. We're busy. I was like, what the fuck? You didn't tell me you were there already. I'm just going to tell you all now. Like, don't let your husbands or.
Starting point is 00:30:58 your boyfriends hear this because we all talk about your dicks like we just do we're going to talk about it we're going to talk about the size we're going to talk about the shape we're going to talk about the curve we're going to talk about all of it and so if you don't want someone to talk about it maybe don't show them your penis okay just keep it to yourself just keep it to yourself wait so you guys like have full-blown conversations full-blown conversations down to the tip what what makes a good penis and what makes a bad penis? I am going to say that it here's the thing. Size can matter and it does matter.
Starting point is 00:31:37 And we sort of talked about it last night. Like if someone has a small dick and you fall in love with them, it's far too late. Like you're now in love with someone that has a small dick. You can't unfall in love with them, right? You better hope the sex is good and they stimulate you in other ways. And so if their dick is small, they'll probably not tell you. they'll just say all the other qualities that are so good because they're not going to embarrass their man and be like, oh, like, my man's dick is small, right?
Starting point is 00:32:03 Like, they're going to be like, we have good sex. Like, they're never going to, they're going to avoid penis size conversation at all cost. I don't have to worry about that. So if you guys want to know, I'm just kidding. He just completely ignored that. How do you feel about, so does the size of the balls matter? The size of the balls can matter if you like them slapping against you.
Starting point is 00:32:25 which I do. And so it can matter. But some women don't care about that. And so surely you don't want someone to have like super small balls because you're like, wait, what's going on? You know? But like, if they're just average, like that's fine. Like average balls are okay. And then you have like the really big ones. If you have a huge ball sack and a really small dick, that's weird. Like I'm falling in love with you at that point. Do you know what I mean? Alessandra, that might be Patreon exclusive. I don't know. How far do you want to push this episode? You know what I mean? If your dick doesn't hang past your balls, you are, your dick is not big enough to speak to me any kind of way. So be very, very mindful if I know your dick size and you speak to me in a way
Starting point is 00:33:12 that I don't appreciate. Okay. Anonymous member wrote, I finally have something to share, but I don't think it's bad enough for a foul play. Well, I'll be the judge of that. The other day, my man and I were having sex and all the activities. He was in the middle of fingering me and I farted. We both busted out laughing and I couldn't stop for a few minutes. Thankfully, it was his hand and not mouth down there and it had a sound but no smell. He jokes about it every few days and I'm like, when is this going to stop being funny? It's never going to stop being funny, especially if you're with the right one, because if you're with someone that makes you feel like shit about it or you're like so embarrassed, you can never talk about it again, it sounds like you have a good guy. So we love that
Starting point is 00:33:49 for you. We love that. Okay. Alia post. in case you needed a laugh, maybe this can count as a foul play. For the fourth, we, family of five, went onto a rooftop to watch some fireworks downtown. It was just us, the family of five, so we were spread out, running around, having fun. Well, my bonus son, who was five, and a serial picker, upper of random and all things, picked up something and said, hey, look, guys, with hard eyes. I started to squint because obviously it was dark outside. Well, y'all, when I realized what it was, I started screaming and grossed out, my genius boyfriend said calm down it's just a firework y'all it was a goddamn used tampon um i looked up what one
Starting point is 00:34:31 looks like wait i looked up what one looks like up close and they do look similar well now i need to i need to like google this uh used firework versus used tampon oh wow oh wow they look alike okay all right i can see i can see why that looks very similar i understand that's crazy i didn't even know that's actually insane okay let me go back to the questions alessandra good fucking look okay one for kale this is from haley and she says if you could describe in one word what each of your children has taught you in motherhood what would that word be for each kid for example my first born taught me selflessness my second taught me patience and my third taught me grace.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Elliot taught me about unconditional love. He taught me that I would literally do anything for my children, literally anything. I do not care about their sexuality. I do not care about what interests they have. I do not care about any of that. It's like my child is my child and I love him unconditionally. I love all of them unconditionally. Lincoln taught me has taught me to try to be kind of carefree and go with the flow of things because he really is such a go with the flow kind of kid.
Starting point is 00:35:59 He will hang out with the babies or he'll hang out with go to Elliott's play or he'll go to Lux and Creed's games or like just Lincoln is and he's also self-motivated. Like Lincoln will get up to do so. Elliot is too honest. Lux is too. Lux is also. I would argue that Lincoln and Lux both move with a sense of urgency. Like they understand a schedule. They will follow a schedule.
Starting point is 00:36:26 They are self-starter, self-motivated. They get themselves up in the morning. Like, I do not have to wake them up. Elliot, he, it's interesting because if Elliot, so Elliot's bus comes at 6-10 in the morning. And nobody wakes him up. Nobody gets him going. Nobody does any of that. He does that all on his own and gets himself on that bus at 6-10 every single.
Starting point is 00:36:47 single fucking morning. With that being said, if there is room for wiggle room, he will participate in the wiggle room. But like, for example, today there was no school, but he had rehearsals, he has rehearsals from nine to three. I know that he's not going to move with a sense of urgency the same way he would if he has to. Elliot is, he's very much like me. We're like, he knows when he has to. But if there is a little bit of wiggle room, he'll push the limit. And I'm the same way. Creed is teaching me patience. Creed is teaching me that big emotions are, you know, he's trying to understand his own emotions. And he has had more, he's had a harder time trying to express his emotions.
Starting point is 00:37:31 And I would say the older three. And so he's taught me patience a lot. And he's also, he also reminds me. He just reminds me so much of myself and my mom. Like, we are, when we're in a really good mood, things are really good. And when we're not in a good mood, everybody's not in a good mood. That's not really a great quality to have. So we're working on that.
Starting point is 00:37:56 We are working on that. Rio has taught me, well, Rio is good energy. Toddlers are also hot and cold. Like, you never know what you're going to get from them. But very funny, very caring, very entertaining. So I would say he kind of has already, like he's taught me some of the same, like reinforce some of the same things as the older kids. Rio is very much an older. He's like in the birth order, he's number five, right?
Starting point is 00:38:28 But at his dad's house, he's number one, right? So he has qualities of the oldest sibling and he also has qualities of number five, which is really interesting. Shop my favorite bras and underwear at skimstop. com slash coffee. We are a skims partner for a reason. And before skims, underwear was truly an afterthought to both of us. Actually, all of my kids have that except for Elliott because Elliott is the oldest on both sides. I would say Lincoln exhibits sibling number one qualities. And he also exhibits sibling number two. But I've read a lot about the second child in the birth order being very challenging. testing your patients, doing all of that.
Starting point is 00:41:46 And I have not had that experience. And I think that's because of the overlap of being the oldest sibling at his dad's house. He doesn't exhibit those qualities. Same for Lux. When Lux is with me, he's the third child. But when he's at his dad's house, he's the oldest. And so he does exhibit both qualities as well. Creed is like Elliot, he is the smack dab in the middle child in both households.
Starting point is 00:42:09 So he's showing signs of like quote unquote middle child syndrome, which I want to avoid as much as possible. So I have put something in place that I learned from Creed's therapist and we're going to be trying to give him some undivided quality time more often every day. More often slash once a day is what I mean. Elliot, I took to dinner last week and then we went to a play yesterday, just us too. And then I went to dinner with Lincoln, just the two of us. And I did the same thing with Lux. But for Creed, because he's in the middle, it's going to be a little bit different. It's a little bit more challenging.
Starting point is 00:42:48 Also, his age is a lot more challenging. So when I say that little boy has taught me patience, he truly has. And I'm going to try to do something that we talked about in therapy, which is just like doing quiet alone time with just me and him in another room. But I want to try to do it every single day versus every single. week because I would imagine that being right in the middle at both houses is probably very challenging. And I would imagine that he probably doesn't feel heard.
Starting point is 00:43:16 He's not quite old enough to do what the older siblings do, but he's not quite where the younger siblings are either. And then the twins are just so funny. Valley is teaching me about my own self because I look at her sometimes and I'm like, she's me 2.0. The sass, the attitude, the demanding nature of her personality, I am learning how it might feel to deal with kale. And so things are going as well as they can. And I'm very excited. I hope that, like, but value is just like me. So it's going to be a humbling experience. I can feel it. And then verse is just teaching me to look at just the positive things out of
Starting point is 00:44:04 life because verse is just happy all the time and in his own fucking world. And he's just content doing whatever. It doesn't matter. He's just happy to be here. You know, like he's just go with the flow, happy to be here. Nothing really bothers him. Loves Man Man, which is Spider-Man. And so I want to be like him when I grow up. I want to be, what is the word I'm looking? If feels like, like, maybe like whimsical, like, like happy go luck, like just golden retriever. Golden retriever energy. And Rio is the same way. Rio is golden retriever energy. Valley's more golden retriever than I am. Balls baby. So is Rio.
Starting point is 00:44:50 Yeah, but like valleys to boss baby. So funny story about Rio was replacing carpets. in the playroom and my living room, I had like extra carpets or whatever. And so Papa put them down over the weekend while they were with their dad. And why I say their dad? They were with Elijah. Their dad is Elijah. But just to clarify. And so Rio comes home this morning and I bring him in the house and he's like, wait, I think I have the video of the audio. So he sees the living room carpet. And he's like, I like the floor. Like he noticed the carpet, which I thought was, I, Rio is gifted, y'all. I don't care what anyone says.
Starting point is 00:45:30 Like, nobody can tell me otherwise. Rio is so smart. And so he sees the real, and he's like, I can walk around, and he's walking around on this carpet. And then we go in the playroom. And the playroom also has... Huh? I do I like a floor again. You like it? I do like a floor again.
Starting point is 00:45:49 He does like the floor again. You like it? He says, I do like the floor again. So he loved the floor. And so yeah, the Rio and the twins, they're all three of them are golden retriever, which is funny because Elijah doesn't really talk. I wouldn't call him a golden retriever or a black cat. He's just a unique man. So I don't know where the kids get their personality from. I don't know, actually, but they're all good kids. Oh, this is a good one. Felicia asks, do you think it's possible that some people are born to give more love? and they will ever receive back in return.
Starting point is 00:46:34 Yes, I do. And it's not fair. But I think, yeah, I think that happens. I don't necessarily think that that, do you think it's possible that some are born to give more love? I don't know if they were born to give more love. I think that's just the way it plays out. And then they never get it back. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:55 I'm going to read one from Ryan. Ryan says, my five-year-old is about to drive me crazy. He doesn't like the answers to any question he hears. His response often ends in fake whimpering and stomping off to his room. Dinner is, quote, gross and disgusting, and I'm just not eating it. And quote, it's become where nothing is ever good enough and he tries to have the last word with everything. If this has only started within the last two weeks, I'd assume this had to do with the new baby. Unfortunately, it's been this way for months.
Starting point is 00:47:24 Is this a phase? Is this a phase? Is their life at the end of the tunnel? His attitude is so souring. It's a vibe kill. Okay. Some of the responses to that. I have also experienced this with Creed, again, being the middle child. There's lots of changes for all the kids. But in the middle, I think it's also challenging. My child's also five years old. So I do think it is the age a little bit. Sarah responds and she says it's normal. It's still frustrating, but normal. maybe try the this or that method. Do you want chicken nuggets or spaghetti? Use that approach with everything. Do you want to take a bath now or wait 30 minutes? But here's the thing with that is like, you can't ask questions that are not options. So that's something that I've learned with the kids in therapy. And they did PC, P-C-I-T, which is parent-child integrated therapy, I believe. You can't say,
Starting point is 00:48:18 oh, can you go pick this up where it's a demand? Like, go clean it up. So if you don't have the option for a bath or a shower, don't give it an option, right? If there's, you can't set them up for failure. And then someone else commented under saying that she was going to suggest that as well. My aunt also suggested something to me a couple years ago. She said something about like around this age is like if and when statements. So, or sorry, when and then statements. So if you say, okay, when you go clean up your room, then we can go get ice cream. And so you're giving. giving them like an expectation. I've also, Ryan heard, and I haven't done this, I'm just giving you advice that I've heard
Starting point is 00:49:02 doing some sort of like chart system where it has like symbols for what each activity is. So if like you're going to do something throughout the day, getting them used to the schedule, you could do like 9 a.m. is like breakfast or whatever and sort of get them used to that so that they know what they're being prepared for. I think a lot of kids sometimes they thrive with schedule. but because of life and the economy and society today, it's less possible, in my opinion, to have like a more regimented schedule.
Starting point is 00:49:32 But that's something that maybe I need to try with Creed, too. Someone else suggested very normal. This is the power play stage. So if your house is anything like mine, I need to stick to this more than ever right now with Creed. Someone said, it's so normal. They're like Sower Patch kids a lot of the times. and then Shea Nelson said, very normal for kids of that age to want to test boundaries. They're also very independent.
Starting point is 00:50:00 I always have to position things for them to be more of my son's idea than mine. So like dinner, I'll give them options and let him help me build his plate. It gets him involved in the decision making. So you're kind of tricking them into thinking it's their idea. I actually love that too. I'll tell you this. While it may be normal behavior, the way you discipline is important. You must be consistent and clearly unacceptable.
Starting point is 00:50:22 They do not just move on phases and start being respectful without being taught. Oh, sorry, I didn't even. They do not move just on phases and start being respectful without being taught what's acceptable and what isn't. That's true. So my daughter started this around five as well. She got entirely too much and was in my, and she was my only job at the time. Like you were saying, everything was an issue. I remember these things helped.
Starting point is 00:50:49 Give him an option. Do you want hot dogs or hamburger? make him feel like he has a choice. When he's upset, I know it's hard, but try to think on his level, he's needing something. So I would say, I know you're upset, hug her, try to talk to her. It does not always work, but it helped. She's 11 now is ADHD and highly functioning autism, not telling you your kid has anything, but I will say that in the back of your mind, if it doesn't improve, keep that in the back
Starting point is 00:51:14 of your mind. You're doing a great job, Ryan. This is the hardest job in the world, which it freaking is. Oh, Laura Ann says, is he eating enough? Not eating enough food changes someone's personality. Does he maybe feel out of control? And that's why he's trying to control things. Why, what does he try to control? Honestly, there's a lot of good information on this post. So if anyone wants to go read it in the coffee convo's group, there is a lot of good responses. On that note, we've reached the hour. I did my best. I already filmed a solo episode of For Barely Famous this week. So I hope that Lindsay tackles everything she needs to do today. As always, you guys can follow on Spotify.
