Starting point is 00:00:00 I hate gift giving and receiving. Receiving gifts is so weird. What do you say thank you? This is Coffee Convo's with Kail Lowry and Lindsay Crisley. I really want you to be in your feels, Kail. That does not interest me whatsoever. I feel very attacked by you. A spirited discussion about motherhood, friendship, family, and life in the public eye.
Starting point is 00:00:18 I'm just not with the fakery anymore. There's a fakery bakery. Here's Kail and Lindsay. Good morning and welcome back to another episode of Coffee Convo's podcast. How are you? I just had my first celiac degrees. Celiac degrees meltdown, cry, baby fit. It was all funny games and funny and I thought it was going to be okay until I had my first meltdown.
Starting point is 00:00:44 I look over and we're sitting on our laptops and I see just water coming out of Kale's face. And I'm like, wait, what? I didn't make a sound. I just started crying because we were ordering lunch. My biggest thing when I come to the South is I, always want barbecue whatever local spots i want brisket i want it all i love vegetables this day particularly i found a barbecue place and it didn't it doesn't have like regular vegetables that you would get in barbecue doesn't have collard greens doesn't have broccoli doesn't have green beans
Starting point is 00:01:21 i don't think i've ever had broccoli at a barbecue place oh okay fair fair okay but they didn't have Like fried okra. They didn't have that either. So they didn't have any of it. And so it's just meat and mac and cheese. Well, I can't have the mac and cheese. So meat. That's it.
Starting point is 00:01:36 That's the meal. And I just start crying because I'm like, I like, normally that would be fine because I just eat the meat and the mac and cheese and call it a day. How would you have lived if you were me for the past two years where I was on that meat diet and I just dipped it in butter? Like that's insane if you really think about it. like that's a mental illness but did you not eat vegetables too no i didn't eat a vegetable so it's so crazy because i love vegetables why were you not eating vegetables david was on the
Starting point is 00:02:09 carnivore diet and has been for a very long time and so when it came time for like dinners and stuff it just made it easier for me just to adapt to what he was doing but do car i know carnivores eat meat but do carnivores not also eat not that i'm aware of me and And if they do, that's not the kind of carnivore he was. I need to see because like when I think of carnivores, immediately think of T-Rex. So like I need to know was he also eating vegetables with the other animals? So I chat GPT are carnivores eating vegetables also? And it says it depends on the animal.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Carnivore can mean two slightly different things. One, obligate carnivores must eat meat to survive. they can't get all the nutrition, they can't get all the nutrients they need from plants. Okay. So the examples they included are cats, including lions and tigers, many snakes and then marine mammals like seals. And then it says, these animals may occasionally nibble on grass or plants, but not, but they're not eating vegetables for nutrition. Sometimes it's to help digression. And then it says facultative carnivores primarily eat meat but can also eat plant material.
Starting point is 00:03:23 examples include dogs, foxes, and coyotes. I'm just here to say that I love that I'm back to eating vegetables. And for your digestive tract, I think it is so important to eat a leafy grain. Well, what's so funny when we were getting our hair done? I was talking to the stylist and she was saying, like, we were talking about celiac. And she was saying, like, once you get through, you process that you have it and you make the changes, like, you're going to be shooting your pants from eating all the salads and vegetables and spinach and the roughage and then you'll you'll balance out but then I was telling you like my fear is like
Starting point is 00:04:02 will it ever balance out or will I always shit my pants no I think it genuinely will balance out I think that you just have to accept the fact that you have celiac I think you have to accept the fact that you've got to make a bunch of changes and I think that your system's going to regulate itself if I shit my pants in the next we'll call it six months As we said, we weren't talking about it anymore. Oh, fuck. Just deleted that. Edit that out.
Starting point is 00:04:28 That's a blooper. I'm not talking about. If I have any GI issues at this point, it is because of the roughage and the vegetables, not from the gluten. I just think it's so insane. We are staying in an Airbnb together. And I've been doing laundry all morning and Kiel's been crying, trying to figure out what she's going to eat. I just like, what is happening? Nothing.
Starting point is 00:04:52 and everything at the same exact time. Okay, so we have a new segment and I'm really excited about this one. It's called Is It Just Me? And so what we're going to do is we're going to go through like different topics of things. So like everyday habits is the first one. And we're going to decide if it's like just me or just her or just us or if it's also you. So we're going to start with the everyday habits. And the first one is needing complete silence to fall asleep versus needing background noise and a show playing.
Starting point is 00:05:29 If I could have it my way, I would have the fan and the TV on to go to sleep. Okay. So I used to be a leave the TV on all night sleeper. And I think it probably started whenever I was in high school because I was afraid of the dark. And I needed the noise because if I hear like any creaking or anything, intrusive thoughts immediately. Now I am white noise and I need the ceiling fan going and I also need a box fan and no one come from my box fan. What's wrong with a box fan? So many people have come into my house and been like, Lindsay, your house is so nice. But why is there a box fan like in the middle of your
Starting point is 00:06:13 bedroom? Do not come for my box fan ever. I feel like that is something that you look a you look around it. You don't note it. Like that is just a staple that you have. We have an industrial fan from like, it's like outdoor industrial fan on the floor in our room. But he does not, when he feels his eyes get heavy, he turns the TV off. And it drives me up a wall because I want all the noise, all the things, and I will go to sleep. It's really bad for you, though, to leave your TV on. It's bad for you to leave your fan on.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Why? Something about I just. That's the bad I'm going to do. Right. So I was scrolling. Obviously, we know not everything on the. internet is true, but I could see why this might be true. It was a medical, it was a doctor saying that it dries out your sinuses and your mouth and everything. And then, oh, man, I wish I remembered
Starting point is 00:07:03 exactly what it. I might have saved it. But it was something along the lines of like, let me look it up because y'all know, I know that y'all hate when I don't know what the fuck I'm saying. Okay. So the doctors are saying it can dry out your airways and your eyes. A fan blowing directly on your face all night can increase evaporation of moisture. leading to dry nose, dry throat, dry eyes or chapped lips. This can be especially bothersome if you wear contacts, sleep with your mouth open, or use a CPAP. It may aggravate allergies or asthma. Fans don't create dust or pollen, but they can circulate those allergens.
Starting point is 00:07:35 It can contribute to muscle stiffness in some people. So cool air itself doesn't damage muscles, but sleeping in a position while cool air blows on the same area all night could cause people to be stiff or sore. and the last one it says it may cool you too much so if your room becomes too cold overnight your sleep can be disrupted by waking and adjusting the blankets and that kind of thing i'm always going to be playing a fan yes some degree in my room remember me telling you whenever i went through the whole decorating process of my house and getting into it with she's my friend tory but she also like did the decor in my house and we went to Blos over like it needed to be a chandelier or it needed to be like a pretty fixture in my room.
Starting point is 00:08:29 And I'm like, no, every single room in this house, there will be ceiling fans bought. So now it's your job to figure out which ones look good. I also, we didn't go to Blos. And I also, Sammy was my, she helped me with my house. We weren't personal friends at first. So we didn't get into it, but that was a discussion for us too because I'm used to a ceiling fan. I opted for the chandelier, which is fine. But I also previously was using a sound machine instead of a fan.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Oh. Like a child. Wait, so you just turned on the sound machine and then you didn't have the, you didn't have any moving air? No. Okay. See, I feel like that is a psychopath because someone who can sleep. with just like still air what are you doing no I like how is that possible well I had to adjust because I didn't have a ceiling fan at this house every other house I've ever lived in had a ceiling fan so it was
Starting point is 00:09:30 just and but remember when I lived in the in the big house in Middletown I didn't have a TV in that room so like I was trying new things right I would go to sleep with the TV on every single night if it was up to me but it's so crazy because I didn't have the whole time I lived in my divorce house. I did not have a TV in my bedroom at all and I hardly watched TV at all for two years. And then when I moved into my, it's not new now, but when I moved two years ago, I was adamant that I was going to have a TV in my bedroom. And let me tell you, honey, that gets somewhere in tear. Okay. I love that. I am in there watching the documentaries. I am in there doing all the things on that TV. Right now, we're,
Starting point is 00:10:18 So the kids have TVs in the room that they don't have consoles, like they don't have gaming consoles. So they can't watch TV or play games on there. So they're just there just in case, basically. The playroom, we have a TV in the living room. We have a TV. The kids have an entire playroom that they can watch TV in. And it could be half of like a movie area and like half playroom. But they always want to watch their stuff in the living room TV.
Starting point is 00:10:48 And I'm like, uh-uh. Is it because everybody's together? Yeah, we're living room family. So like everybody. Elliot is like 50-50. So he'll spend some of the time in his room. But we're mostly a living room family. So or playroom family.
Starting point is 00:11:01 The only thing that is different about that for us, I don't like watching TV in the living room. And Jackson doesn't either. And we watch very different things. That's why, though. And so I'll be in my room and he'll be in his room. But nightly, we always watch an episode of Young Sheldon together. We love Young Sheldon at our house.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Young Sheldon. We've gone through every season already and we rewatch it. Oh, listen, when the dad died. Oh, my heart. I thought he was real. Like, in my mind, that's a real family. No, it is a real family. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Like, I love Young Sheldon so much. And I'm like, Jackson, he reminds me so much of you. except you don't care about your schoolwork and he does. I love, we love it. Also, Lux has been watching Henry Danger, which was like way before his. That's like Elliot's time. Yeah. That's interesting.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Yeah, because they're on streaming and we don't have cables. So it's kind of cool to like see them watch all that. And I said to Lux and Creed the other day, I said, all right, let's go Rugrats. And they said, rocket power. Yes. And so Lux or Creed, one of them was like, do you even know what a Rugrat is? And I go, yes. And I show them what the cartoon and Rio thought it was the funniest thing he had ever seen.
Starting point is 00:12:23 That's so funny. The little cartoons, he had never seen something like that. I wish that they had some of the cartoons and stuff that we watched. Where are the reboots for the best cartoons? Like we don't want. Hey Arnold. Move it, football head. Truly, like, we don't want a rebo.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Look-a-wootty-woot. We don't want a reboot of Full House. Like, I love some of those people, but like we want the reboot of Hey Arnold. Oh my gosh. Speaking of Full House, see, this is why we can't do good things because we're just, you know, on a tangent. I went down this rabbit hole of TikTok and it was talking about Full House and how they used Mary Kate and Ashley and Ashley. But Mary Kate was in it more than Ashley was. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:08 And how one of the twins, when they did the reboot for Fuller House, one of the twins was going to agree to do it. I can't remember which one it was. But then the other one didn't want to do it. So the one that wanted to do it pulled out because her sister didn't want to do it. That's fascinating to me. Isn't that crazy? And you know they're not even identical. Which is so insane because growing up, I would have thought they were the same person.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I know one other set of fraternal twins that look identical. And for the longest time, I couldn't tell them apart. They go to school with my kids. And I couldn't tell them apart. Now I can because I've gotten to know them. but I was like you can't be fraternal and look that much alike. It's really weird. Also, this TikTok was going through like the differences of Mary Kate and Ashley and how one of them lost teeth before the other one.
Starting point is 00:14:00 And so they would pop the one twin in the show because the other one had lost teeth. The other one looked smaller. one was taller um their ears are different i just looked up which twin was willing to do fuller house mary kate olson was the twin who was at least somewhat open to appearing on fuller house but she also was the twin that was mostly in full house according to executive producer bob boyette ashley olson said that she hadn't been in front of a camera since she was 17 and didn't feel comfortable acting anymore. Mary Kate Olson reportedly responded, it would have been me because Ash doesn't want to do it, but the timing is so bad for us. So she would have been open to it,
Starting point is 00:14:46 maybe at a later time. They're so rich that I think that, you know, full house or fuller house might just not have been in their plans. You know what I mean? It says, interestingly, former full house co-stars have also said that Mary Kate was the twin who enjoyed acting less as a child, while Ashley was generally more comfortable on set. Despite that as adults, Ashley was the one who definitively ruled out returning to acting while Mary Kate left the door slightly open before ultimately declining.
Starting point is 00:15:15 That's so fascinating. Isn't that crazy? Yeah. Okay, the next one. Showering at night versus in the morning. And I am a both shower. So I will also do both. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd choose at night.
Starting point is 00:15:30 I would also choose at night. Because I'm not getting in that bed dirty. There's something about, just like resetting in the shower before you lay down and cancel the day. There's just something that's about it that you're like, wow, I really needed that reset. Yeah. It was like clearing your mind really quick. Also, Ike and I have the most important conversations in the shower because it's the only time that we have alone. They say that's super healthy for couples to shower together. Really? Like we're not having sex. I say they. I don't know who they is. Also, I've always had this problem. I don't understand
Starting point is 00:16:09 how people who shower in the morning say it wakes them up. It makes me want to immediately put on all my snugly clothes and get right back in my bed. Same. It does not wake me up and it never has. See, you've got to get the morning burst, the face wash. I don't know what the brand is. Let me see if it's gluten free, Lindsay. But the morning burst, you know, it does something to you. It's like, okay, now I need to go to Pilates. Like now I can do school drop off. I should do a cold plunge in the morning. A cold plunge would be great. Well, with back to school in session, our grocery bills and our patients are probably stretched way too thin.

Rereating a text five times before sending it. No. I don't do this enough.
Starting point is 00:18:10 I need to. I need to. And I don't do it enough. Not because of typos, because I need to have power in the pause more than, like I sent a text out on the whim before I posted something on social media or at the same time, I should have sent the text before I posted on social media. but I also shouldn't have sent the text either. I mean, pretty self-aware. I will say if I am typing out like a long, are these texts like we're blasting off at somebody or like what are these texts that
Starting point is 00:18:44 were. Me or everybody? Like rereading a text five times before sending it, no, it's probably going to have typos and I've probably misspelled something and I'm not going back to change it. But like I mean what I say when I send it. I'm only rereading text five times before I send it. If this is like a long winded drawn out, I'm tweaking this, going back to it in two days. Like if this is a really, I have to send this text message.
Starting point is 00:19:11 And by at that point, I'm putting it in my notes at first. And rereading it 12 times. And correct. Okay. Correct. If I'm sending like a long text, then I'm rereading it as I'm sending it. as I'm sending it. Does that make sense? Like as I'm going along, I'm kind of like rereading what I said before. And then I'll go back and like change it a little bit. But aren't you afraid of accidentally
Starting point is 00:19:38 sending it? Because I did that before too. I mean, it wasn't important. It wasn't like a text that I needed to read. But I like went to go do something and I went to hold it down to edit it and it sent. And I was like, motherfucker. That's why I'm like important texts need to go in your in your notes at first. I will tell you something that drives me nuts that people do. What is I will get a text, open it up, and I've already seen the preview, and then they unsend it. And it's like, you just sent that with your full chest. Like, why are you now unsending it? Because now I can't read it and also send me what you just sent me.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Well, that feature is only there for a few minutes. Oh, you mean like once you send it, then like you immediately have to do it. You pretty much immediately have to unsend or that feature or you can't do it anymore. But I get that. But why did we send something? that we were so committed to that we now are unsending it within like seconds. My other issue with that too is it says so-and-so unsent a message. At the point that you can delete text, just don't even send them a memo.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Okay, do we like the feature where you can like pre-schedule a text to go out? I love it. I don't know how to do it. I haven't been able to figure out. Oh, I'll teach you how. Okay. I do love it because like, for example, I had to put something in my calendar for this morning for Rebecca and I could have scheduled a text to go out to her instead of putting it in
Starting point is 00:21:01 the calendar to remind me. Do you know what I'm saying? So it just makes like stupid stuff like that like a little bit more easy. But other than that, I don't even know what I would schedule. You literally can go on there. I've been working like late at night before and I'm like, hey, I need Hunter to do X, Y, and Z. And so I will type out the text and schedule it to send at like 9am the next day. No, I love that. So it's like I'm being productive and he's also getting it, but getting it at an appropriate time. Like it wouldn't be appropriate for me to send something like that at midnight. A lot of times before, it wants you show me that will help because before I will send Rebecca emails and even when Kristen was around, I would send her an email or a text that would
Starting point is 00:21:44 be like, this is not important right now. But when you have time, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Well, by the time that that is like a reasonable hour, it's lost in the sauce. Yep. So I'll send it. at 9 p.m. on a Saturday. And it's like, this is not important until Monday, but then it still gets lost. So the scheduled text would make more sense. Or can you schedule emails too? I don't know if you. Oh, yeah, you can schedule emails too. Yeah. Because that would be helpful for me, also so that it's like, this isn't important. But whenever you get to it during regular working hours. Look at you becoming a little type A. I mean, I think I've always had it in me. I've just never been
Starting point is 00:22:16 medicated properly. But I did get all my meds. I would agree. I got refills on all my meds before I came out here because last tour. How many meds are we on? Three. Oh, wow. I'm on Prozac for my anxiety and low-level depression. I'm on Adderall for my ADHD and I have boost bars for my anxiety when the Prozac isn't cutting it. So is the boost bars the one that's non-addictive? Yes. It's like the alternate to like a X or something like that. Because I started reading on medications after the last five weeks and I'm like, you know what like some of this anxiety doesn't feel like very normal to me like I need to get on something and I read about the boost bars um but then also I keep I always go back to I don't want to be medicated but at what point do you just surrender to the medication because
Starting point is 00:23:11 you've already acknowledged to yourself you need it my thing with that is you it doesn't matter how many alarms you set in your phone this is I'm talking to directly to you. I'm not talking about generally speaking. I'm talking to you. You could set, have all the intentions in the world to act right, do this, do that, and don't want to be medicated. You can't talk your way or schedule your way out of a chemical imbalance in your brain. I know. So just be medicated. I hear you, but it's just like, it's just like scary to think that you could possibly need to be dependent on something for a long period of time. And I guess maybe Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Some of that has to do with my raising, I think. Like anything that you put your mind to, you can do it mentality. And I know at this point, that's not the case. I do have an appointment whenever I get back home to go to the doctor, to have conversations about the medication. But that was even terrifying for me to make the appointment. Do genocide. Find a lab near you and do that testing because you'll already have it when you get to the doctor.
Starting point is 00:24:21 You'll have your results. And then you just take the results. And take them to. Your doctor might actually have to order that. I'm not sure for you to go to one of those labs. I'm telling you, it's going to change your life because then you actually know, okay, this one works with my body specifically. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:35 And what it could help you with. But I don't, what's interesting about the boost, some people call it Buse Bar or boost bar, whatever. I don't have an addictive personality. I know. Shocker. I know. Um, 2.5 milligrams of Xanax does not do anything for me. I can function like an average. It's like I didn't take anything at all. But then I'm on five milligrams of a boost bar. And it works.
Starting point is 00:25:05 And it works. Okay. Well, I will keep you guys updated. Um, next one, having a designated mug or cup or a spot on the couch that is just yours. I have a spot on the couch at home. Like, You know, because I don't like to leave my house. When I'm in the house and I'm in the living room, I'm on that spot in the couch. And does everybody know that that's your spot so they don't sit in it? Nobody ever sits in that spot. Do you? I do not have a mug, a cup, or a spot.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Do you even sit on your couch in your living room? Yeah, I mean, mostly during college football season, because that's really the only time that we use that TV. We don't watch TV in there. But yeah, Jackson and I'll snuggle up on the couch. This is champagne problems, everybody. Champagne problems. If you don't want to hear it, fast forward five minutes. I got my couch custom made when I moved in in 2022.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Absolutely obsessed with it. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. The best thing that ever happened to you was the couch is insane. Loved it. Best couch I ever had. My cats. We only have one cat now. Everybody else has died.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Rest in peace. destroyed the couch to the point that I'm like a borderline do I get a new one now while I still have toddlers or do I wait or what do I do you wait because I mean the this part right here the wood is starting to show it's only four years old but they the cats dug and dug all every single thing so I throw blankets over the side so you can't see it but it's embarrassing and I'm like not embarrassing isn't the right word but like I do feel like a lot of times our house is put together, but the cat, like, if I don't have blankets covering it, it looks crazy. See, until Jackson stopped, well, he teethed on our coffee table.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Mm-hmm. And I am just a big advocate now for anybody that has little kids, you're not going to like it, but just deal with the mess and the chaos or if there's like a stain on something, just deal with it before you replace it because I drove myself crazy. like trying to make sure that he wasn't getting crumbs all over the couch or, you know, he wasn't scratching up the coffee table with his cars. And at this point, I'm like, if I did have another child, I wouldn't give a shit. Yeah, I, it's like this material and also this, it's almost this dark. I would get the exact same couch again, but do a different, um, color probably.
Starting point is 00:27:41 But yeah, to your point, I, the twins are two and a half. So maybe if we end up moving out of Delaware, maybe then because that will be 2028 and the twins will be almost full. And furniture is so expensive. Oh, and this is a fucking economy. We can't, we can't, people are barely filling their fridge. Like, so expensive. I could not believe whenever I went to go and buy my couch. My designer brought me a sheet of pricing of couches.
Starting point is 00:28:12 And some of these couches were like $20,000 couches from like restoration hardware. and I'm like, no, I'm not on that kind of. Wait, somebody sent me this. I think it was bit. I think my, my name called cloud couch or something. Oh, I love the cloud couch. But I think it was, I sent it to somebody. Anyway, someone sent me a website and I'll post it in the, I'll have them link it in the
Starting point is 00:28:36 description. And it's like West Elm, but you type in a specific word in front of it and it brings you up all the most similar items. All the doaps. Yeah, I didn't know if we were allowed to say dupe on here. It brings up all the dupes that are so similar to that specific one, but a fraction of the price. See, I could get behind something like that. I'll send you.
Starting point is 00:28:57 I'll send it to you. I'm like, I'm not spending $20,000 on a couch. And what world do you think I live in? I'm pretty sure the couch that I am talking about has been the cats destroyed it. I'm sure Buddha was excited and peed on it at some point. He's always potty trained. but I'm sure he got excited and tinkled on it. Milk has been spilled on it.
Starting point is 00:29:19 I've probably peed on it. Like, things go down on that couch. Are y'all couch eaters? Yes. See, I can't get behind food not being in the kitchen. In the new house, whether we stay or leave Delaware, it will not, I'm not going to allow it. But it's so hard to break the habits once you've already allowed it. But I feel like in a new house, in a new environment, that will have.
Starting point is 00:29:45 help in the same house in the same environment, I don't think it would be help. I think we would all break it. Like, I've always allowed Jackson to eat popcorn or like goldfish or something like that on the couch. But if you think you're bringing your whole Fetuccini Alfredo in here, no. Well, especially for my toddlers, their favorite thing right now is to pour things into cups. Yeah. So it doesn't matter if it's Gatorade or M&Ms or water. They're just pouring. They're just pouring cups. And like that would be fine. I don't care about spills on the counter. But when we do it in the living room, it'll go on the carpet.
Starting point is 00:30:20 Yep. So. Okay. The next one. Talking to yourself out loud when you're alone in the house, absolutely. But give me context. Like, are you like, oh, should I forgot that? And you walked in the other room?
Starting point is 00:30:32 Or are you having full blown conversations? Well, not like a conversation that I'm expecting someone to respond to or myself, but it'll be like a. oh shit i forgot to put the clothes in the dryer okay same or like oh shit i gotta go water the plants yeah like i'll say it and i need to say it out loud so i remember it yeah or if i'm like okay if i wake up let me get the kit like i'll just like kind of go through what i need to do like mentally and i'll say it out loud sometimes i have to say it out loud or it's not happening yeah okay we're we're we're the same it's not just you okay next one googling symptoms and immediately assuming the worst i used to do this. I don't do it anymore because I'm afraid what I might find. Well, I just have never,
Starting point is 00:31:18 let me not say never. There have been times I've been so right and times I've been so wrong. And I just, it's not helpful. So I just don't do it anymore. So I used to do this a lot right after I had Jackson. Yes. Because of the intrusive thoughts. Remember like my molluscom story where I told you, I, I had genuinely, thought that my child like something was happening to him and I had convinced myself that it was tumors so like a hypochondriac yes that's me I told y'all this was years ago but maybe you don't remember and I certainly doesn't know this but when I was pregnant with elliot I was done with high school at that time so I finished high school before I gave birth and it was
Starting point is 00:32:06 semesters so I finished the end of the first semester okay so when it transitioned in halfway through January, it would have been the second semester. I was already done with high school. So I spent a lot of time at home during the day while I was pregnant. Okay. And I was watching TLC and Tree Man and all of those types of like crazy things that were on TLC. Like the people that had like elephantitis, the tree man in Indonesia, like all of the. The way that my anxiety was like, if I watch this, my baby's going to get it. Oh, absolutely. Like I have. Why does that happen? I don't know. I think it's. intrusive thoughts, I think. Well, how do we make them stop?
Starting point is 00:32:46 Well, I haven't found out yet. Okay. But I stopped Googling. Yeah, stop Googling. Don't do it. I know it's hard. You got to fight it, but don't do it. But moving on to some slightly spicier opinions, thinking small talk with strangers is actually
Starting point is 00:32:59 kind of fun is not me. I don't love that. Kail, you talk to anybody. You are the queen of small talk to strangers. It doesn't mean I like it. No, I'm not. not saying that you like it, but I'm saying that out of anybody in this room right now, would be the most likely. Yes, I agree with you. No, Ike is the most likely 1,000%. He is the
Starting point is 00:33:22 most 100% that he could talk to a fucking brick wall. What I'm saying is like, I don't want to go up to the, I know this is rude. This is so rude. I know. I don't want to walk up to a cashier and say, hi, how are you? Because I don't care how you are and you don't care how I am. I'm talking about that kind of small talk. I do not want to be making my coffee at Wawa, and the person next to me is like, oh, you like that cream? Don't talk to me. Oh, my God. I'll talk to the supporters and people who have followed my journey and do all, like, because they,
Starting point is 00:33:54 I have a parasycial relationship with them too, right? Yeah. I do know. How many times have you actually meant it when you ran into a quick trip and said, hey, how are you? How are you doing? Or they're like, hey, how are you? And you're like, good.
Starting point is 00:34:06 You don't, stop. Stop it. Yeah, but I feel like it's, how do you? you stop it because I feel like it's rude if you don't do it, but it's pointless to do it. Other countries don't do it. I'm not saying all other countries don't do it, but a lot of other countries don't do it. And that is completely the norm. And it's really interesting, like raising kids too, because I've always told Jackson, like, stranger danger, like don't talk to strangers, anything. And then I'll be the first person to walk into like a Zaxby's and I'll be like,
Starting point is 00:34:35 hey, how are you? How was your day? But you don't actually care how their day is. So why are we asking? Well, I don't know. It's just like a habit that you do. Let me look up because I think, I want to say it's like Japan and like a European country. Like a lot of countries don't do small talk. Like where would you even heard that fact? I read it somewhere. What countries do not have small talk?
Starting point is 00:35:02 Yep. Japan. Finland. It was Finland. So Japan small talk with strangers is often less common than in places like the U.S. Silence is not necessarily awkward. It can be seen as comfortable or responsible. respectful. Conversations can become more personal only after a relationship or context is established. People may avoid talking just to fill the silence. And then Finland, Finless is famous for valuing quiet and personal space. Striking up conversations with strangers is uncommon, especially in public transportation. People often prefer meaningful conversation over filler. Silence is generally not viewed as negatively. Viewed negatively. Same Germany, South Korea, Netherlands, Russia, all these places do not do small talk. Like, they,
Starting point is 00:35:42 Yeah, but we're not there. No, I know, but like it doesn't. It's the same thing. It's like saying bless you. Like, I don't give a fuck. I don't give a fuck if you sneezed. Why? Bless you what?
Starting point is 00:35:52 Just God bless you. Do you say bless you when someone farts? Oh. I hope that that was a sound effect. Do you say bless you when someone farts? No. Do you say bless you when someone burps? No.
Starting point is 00:36:16 What is the point? You have. sneezed something irritated your nose but what the fuck is that okay and when i'm sleeping i'm i pass away five minutes every night so nobody's saying god bless me for that i just feel like i'm always going to say god bless you um that's probably something that i'm just never going to change but i also think that this is like a north and south debate no to some degree no this is probably this what is this this segment is called is it just me it's probably isn't is it just it's just kale Because I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Why are we saying bless you? Sometimes I don't say it because what is the fucking point? Why did people start saying bless you for sneezing? Because why? I don't know. It seems like somebody's going to have a heart attack. Like it's sometimes very violent. No.
Starting point is 00:37:12 It's not any of that. You were wrong. Tradition of saying bless you after someone sneezes comes from a mix of ancient beliefs, religious traditions, and historical events. The plague explanation, popular but not fully proven. A common story says that during the 6th century, the Justinian plague, Pope Gregory the Great encouraged people to say, God bless you after someone sneezed because a sneeze was thought to be an early sign of illness and possible death.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Historians debate how... I mean, I have heard people sneeze before that I thought they were going to die. ancient beliefs about the soul in some ancient cultures people believe sneezing had spiritual significance so Greeks and Romans saw sneezing as a possible omen religious meaning in many Christian cultures God bless you became a short prayer or wish for good health over time so none of it is about your heart stopping that's like a myth wait I do have to ask you a completely different question are you comfortable and just silence in a room.
Starting point is 00:38:18 Depending on who's in it. I'm comfortable being silent in a room doesn't matter who's in it. You know when I'm not comfortable with silence when I'm fighting with that person. Oh, okay. I don't like that. Even my kids.
Starting point is 00:38:31 If my kids are mad at me, I don't like it. I don't want to be mad at them and I don't want them to be mad at me. I don't want I to be mad at me and I don't want to sit in the same room with you if you're mad at me. We need to be in separate rooms.
Starting point is 00:38:42 See, I kind of am very much very comfortable with the silence and I don't care if you're mad. Because chances are if you're mad, I'm also mad. So what are we going to say that's going to resolve what we're mad about? So we should be silent and be comfortable and the uncomfortable. Okay. What you're saying is avoiding.
Starting point is 00:39:06 Let's address this shit head on. Talk about it or don't shut up. No, you're saying being different rooms. Yeah. But if we're in the same room, address it all head on, because I don't want to sit in the same room be passive aggressive and pissed off and you're not pissed off and I am or we're both pissed off at each other. I hate it. See, and I kind of love it. But also I was married to somebody for 10 years that we could get mad at each other and have it out. And when I say have it out, it wasn't like really
Starting point is 00:39:35 an argument. Nobody's voices were being raised. It was more of a no, fuck you and fuck you. And then we're just going to be. And then we're just going to be silent and we're going to see who's going to out sweat the other one. Not saying it's healthy. No, for sure not. It's not healthy. Yeah. No, I got that part.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Okay. Preferring texting over calling even with close friends. Don't call me. I call you all the time. You do, but I just mean like, like, you usually call me with a purpose. I don't want to sit on the phone with anybody. If there's no purpose, like, love all my people to death, but I just, I don't have it in me. I have my Rolodex of phone calls in the morning.
Starting point is 00:40:15 To talk about what? just catch up like hey what are you doing how are you how was your night what do you get into really yeah not over text no i i have the roll of the dex of the the phone conversations hunters one of them nanny is another um used to be will sometimes it still is yeah that's pretty much my Rolodex of who I call. And it's every morning. I don't want people to do that to me. I wish that everything was via text or voice note.
Starting point is 00:40:51 I don't know. I feel like as I've gotten older, I cherish the phone call so much more because it's so much more personal to me than just typing something out because I don't know how somebody's like actually responding to that. Yeah. I'm not really like I when I read something on my phone I'm reading it like as it's typed right I'm not reading it with any emotion at all okay and like I love if I'm having a conversation exactly like what you thought about what I said wait I have to tell you this so obviously we didn't
Starting point is 00:41:27 know what was going to happen with coffee combos a while back and sometimes you or your assistant text Rebecca yeah and because you never no tone over text. I told, I texted Rebecca on the side and I said, stop adding emojis to all of your stuff because it's coming off as passive aggressive. Oh, I didn't view it like that. Oh, you didn't? No.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Oh, wait until she hears this then because I was like, I think Lindsay's going to lose. I literally said to her, I think Lindsay's going to lose her shit because I thought that it was coming off passive aggressively. No, I just thought she was like, hey, this is like exciting or like this needs to be done. Yeah, and then she put like a like a cutesy emoji. Yeah. And I literally was like, Lindsay is going to lose her shit. Stop doing that.
Starting point is 00:42:15 I said it nicer than that. But she laughed and she's like, oh, I'm just trying to help. I was like, I know, but I don't think it's coming up because I read things. And I'm like, okay, I can see how maybe somebody would take it that way. You read it with emotion and I read it for like the face value of what was said. Well, also Hunter was in there. And I didn't know if Hunter also would read it passive aggressively. He'll just be like, fuck off.
Starting point is 00:42:36 But I have to tell her I was wrong. Yes, you were wrong. Okay. Being fine with or preferring eating alone at a restaurant. I love to eat it like a lonely lunch or a lonely dinner. And when I say lonely, it's lonely by choice. Uh-huh. But I love doing it.
Starting point is 00:42:53 I haven't done it in a very, very long time. But I'm fine with it. But I wouldn't say that I prefer it. There's something about being able to sit just with yourself and do something that feels like you should be doing it with someone, but you're so comfortable with what's going on that it can just be you. The first time I sat alone for a meal was out of Chili's in 2016 when I had just found out I was pregnant with looks.
Starting point is 00:43:20 But I was with people, but the trip didn't go as planned. Why do you remember that? Because it was, I think, traumatic for me. It was like I almost had to force myself to be comfortable to do it. Okay. So 2016, I think we went to Denver. I want to say it was December of that year. So it was either December, it would have been, I'm pretty sure it was December of 2016 or January of 2020.
Starting point is 00:43:45 No, sorry. It was either December 2016 or January 2017. But yeah, I didn't have a choice because of the situation that I was in and I basically forced myself to go to like across the street and eat by myself. Would you go to a coffee shop and have like a. a little working moment alone. I have. I've done that several times. Like a thousand percent. I absolutely love that. Or I love to do a working lunch where I'm like, okay, I really need to get in this email because I've neglected it for three days. I will go and get a lonely lunch with my laptop and I'm just in the zone. I love that. And I love it. And it's going back to the small talk thing,
Starting point is 00:44:29 if I want to be by myself, I'm not just going to invite somebody to go because I don't want to be by myself. You know what I mean? No, what do you mean? Like, okay, for example, if I know that I have to do a working lunch or like I'm trying to do something productive, I'm not going to invite somebody to just go and sit with me at a restaurant when I'm trying to do something else. And like, I prefer to be by myself. Yeah. I'm not going to invite them because I feel like that's rude, you know, It's like, hey, unless we're both doing working lunches, then like we both can go. But if we're not, I don't need you chirping at me telling me shit I don't care about when I'm trying to like clickety clock on my email.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Yeah, agreed. And I also, like, I don't like the feeling. I get overstimulated. I'm in my devices. I'm working. I'm not just like doom scrolling and you're there. And I feel like I'm being rude. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:20 Yeah. But sometimes, and I don't, I haven't been able to do it recently. But I used to leave the house to go like to do my emails and to do. my whatever I needed to do on the computer, I had to go to like a Starbucks or a coffee shop because I needed to be productive and being at home, the distractions are everywhere. I will tell you, I have contemplated getting an office space for the pure fact of there is no separation between home and work. And like when you're in that same environment, there is no possible way that that could be good for our mental health. No. Even now, like especially in the
Starting point is 00:45:57 summer with being at home. My kids also, like, they don't understand that, like, what I'm doing is actually working. So they'll come in and they'll interrupt and, like, they don't mean to do it. But it's just frustrating because then also if I hear stuff on the other side of the door, I'm not where my, like my head is not where it needs to be. Correct. Not caring about missing a trending show or movie everyone's obsessed with. I actually have an aversion to that.
Starting point is 00:46:21 I don't tell me about, I don't care about Stranger Things. I don't care about Love Island. I do not care. I didn't start watching Gray's Anatomy until like two years ago probably, like after it had been out for 15 years. I don't care about like missing it in the time that everybody else is watching it. Like I don't have FOMO about that. What I will tell you that I have FOMO about though is like these documentaries that pop
Starting point is 00:46:50 up on like Netflix or Hulu and everybody's talking about it. And I'm like, wait, I need to watch the documentary. It's like a crime one, you know? Like I need to watch and know what's going on on that. But as far as like never watched Stranger Things, what was that show that had all the zombies? Walking Dead. Why? Am I watching that?
Starting point is 00:47:10 Like, that definitely feels like a brain rot moment to me. Yeah. And like I don't want to watch something that's like a brain rot. I understand. Like, yeah, I understand that. Thinking gifts are more stressful to receive than to give. Me. I don't really like.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Like, like, I want to be thought of, but I don't need to receive gifts. Like, it makes me uncomfortable. I don't like giving or getting gifts. I like giving them. I don't like doing either. It's weird. It's like a weird, like, why are we doing that? Like, we're grown.
Starting point is 00:47:44 Fair. You know what I mean? That's not my love language, I guess. It's not how I give it or how I want to receive it. It's weird because I like to give love by gifts, but I don't like to receive love by gifts. Because your physical touch and quality time. Acts of service. Acts of service.
Starting point is 00:48:02 Judging people a little for their phone lock screen or wallpaper choice. No, I don't give a single fuck about that, but I will judge people for their unread text messages, Lindsay. And all their notifications. I'm opening notifications every time. I just don't see how that is so troubling. I have 14 text messages and two things on Etsy and that's driving me up a wall. Did you order two things on Etsy? No, it's just like my favorite shops must have posted like something.
Starting point is 00:48:28 Okay. So I have seven miss FaceTimes, 232 miss calls, 16 emails, and 1,085 on open text. And that doesn't bother me at all. It's like I'll get to it. Well, I won't, but you know what I mean. I just don't, I can't do the notification. I will open a text message and unfortunately not even read it. I never delete anything out of my phone.
Starting point is 00:48:53 are you a deleter? Are you like a mass deleter? So not usually. I have deleted text messages and then I regret it. Also, my phone currently is so slow and lagging because I probably have, hold on, let me show you, I hate this about myself. This is all my text messages. But if you open them and you don't respond, how do you know to go back to them? I don't. That's why they go unanswered. I don't do it on purpose. But now they have the feature where you can unread it. But then I run back to the fact that I won't, I don't like the notification so it doesn't
Starting point is 00:49:33 work for me. Okay. But like my phone's lagging because I need to, like there's no reason for me to have this many text message threads. These are groups. These are people that like will send me one random. Like I don't, what do I need to do with this? See, I like to keep all of my stuff like not deleted.
Starting point is 00:49:52 so I can go back like into the group and be like where do we leave off you know what I mean yeah no I do okay relationship and social ones needing your partner to text on my way even if they'll be there in five minutes yes yes yes immediately yes because why aren't you telling me well like also for me I want to tell somebody that I'm on my way in five minutes so that if there's food that, if there's a pot of water that needs to be boiled, if there's, like the other day I texted Ike and I'm like, can you do like cook this for me because I won't have time to do it. So I'm this far away from home so that you could start it for me. Yeah. Like stuff like that. I absolutely hate when someone doesn't communicate like the smallest things. Like those are the things that really chat
Starting point is 00:50:43 my ass because it makes me feel like you don't care. Like you're just kind of like going at your speed and like I'm just going to settle for whatever that is. And that's not happening at all. Needing your partner to text on my way. Yes. And it's also an auto response. So like why can't everybody do that? I even do that to Will if I'm dropping Jackson off.
Starting point is 00:51:05 Like it's a courtesy, I feel like. It's always a courtesy. Always. Like even Elliot texted my dad, who's not my dad. You guys know, hey, I'm going to be home in 20 minutes because he was going to do, be at the farm to help while I'm gone. He was going to be at the farm. So Elliot texted, hey, I'm going to be home in 20 minutes. Like, let him know. Yeah. It's just like a common courtesy. Respect. Yeah. This episode is brought to you by Better Help. If you could wake up tomorrow
Starting point is 00:51:30 and be better at one thing, what would it be? For me, I would say time management and also maybe multiplying myself so I can be in multiple places at once. Honestly, you can relate to all of that. But either way, being better is feeling better. Better is a feeling. It's defined by you. And for Better help. It's a better help therapist who actually gets you. It's a focus on global emotional well-being with thousands of therapists and millions of members in over 100 countries and it's progress. And for me, it's getting better at taking time for myself and just feeling a little bit less chaotic and spending just intentional time with Jackson and time away from my phone and social media. If that is anything like you, this is your sign to sign up and get 10% off at
Starting point is 00:52:19 BetterHelp.com slash coffee. That's betterhelp.com slash coffee. Okay, getting genuinely annoyed when someone doesn't text back fast, even knowing that it's irrational. I don't really care about people texting back fast. Yes, you do. The only time I cared about it was when I needed an answer for work, this is true and it was like if we didn't figure it out it was going to be not available anymore so i think do we talk about this already no the poly pocket apartment episodes on coffee combos so lindsay had a bunch of stuff going on and i respect i was trying to respect that i did not know that hunter and madison also couldn't answer so i was like expecting if you couldn't answer one of them would be able to answer on your behalf so that's why i was
Starting point is 00:53:13 so frustrated because I'm like if we if I don't get an answer for this right now we won't be available which then it wasn't so like that's the only time but if we're talking about like a hey what are you doing tonight and you text me tomorrow and said sorry I didn't see this I don't give a fuck okay I feel like if I'm texting for something that needs to or is time sensitive then I'm probably going to get pissed off okay if it's not time sensitive and it's just bullshit obviously based off of the amount of unanswered text I probably don't care if I text you and you didn't text me back I'm going to be like whatever I don't it doesn't I think today like with all of our friendships and our lives and everyone
Starting point is 00:54:02 pretty much has kids or just whatever they're going on in their lives like it is so common on all ends to just not respond to a text I will say with Jackson though if he does not respond to my text, I will send like the question or the exclamation marks to get him to respond. Well, yeah. I mean, your kid. Or I'll ding him on Life 360 and be like, I see you. That's funny.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Like, whatever. Having a friend breakup hit harder than a romantic one sometimes. I've never broke up with a friend that, well, let me say, I have had friendship breakups, but I have never broke up with a friend that I was not so solid in my decision whenever I did it, that it no longer hurt because I had probably already grieved it. Interesting. Okay. So the two people that came to mind were for me, I mean, they were really traumatic.
Starting point is 00:55:02 One of them, I think, could have been fixed when I was ready, but I was just being forced constantly to talk and I wasn't ready. if she would have held on a little bit longer and we would have talked. I think that one could have been, it would have been different, but it would have been not a falling out. It would just be like a mutual understanding, I think. And then obviously the Kristen one was really hard. I mean, like that was harder for me than Elijah cheating on me.
Starting point is 00:55:28 So, yeah. As far as emotionally, I think, and you invest very much in your friendships and so do I. And so I'm so emotionally invested in that that, like, those people become family to me. And so when I know that that situation is kind of over and it worked for us for like a phase in our life, but we're not supposed to go into the next chapter with each other, I start that grieving process right away and then I just kind of slowly dwindle away until it's just gone. See, I feel like you said that I invest a lot in my friendships. I actually don't think I do.
Starting point is 00:56:08 like I think that I don't I have I'm having for some years been having an issue with that like you invest in me yeah but I don't think all my friendships are like that like I think that they're because I'm very an out of sight out of mind person so if I don't see Becky which she lives three hours from me I might not hear I might not talk to her until I see her again but it's just because pick up where you left off yes but or like yesterday i texted i was like hey this is what we're doing for the boy's birthday understand if it's completely out of the question but wanted to remind like just wanted to invite you right but i might not talk to her i have some friendships that are like that though where we're we're not in constant communication but if i see them we just pick up right where we left off the last time that's me with sterling like sterling is my sister no matter fucking like that's my
Starting point is 00:57:06 sister. Yeah. But I might not talk to before we're we're back on like talking almost every day. But before we might not have talked for three months, but that was still my one of my best friends. Yeah. That makes sense to me. There are certain people that I constantly do pulse checks on. What's a poll? Like how do you pulse check? Like, hey, just pulse check. Are you alive? Like if I don't hear from them, if it's somebody that I am used to hearing from all the time and I don't hear from them for like a string of days. I'm going to be like, hey, pulse checks, everything okay? Yeah, fair. That's good, though. If you shared locations with people, then you would also be able to just know that everything is okay, but you don't share your location with me. Seems kind of passive aggressive. People call me
Starting point is 00:57:48 Dora the Explorer. They're like, Lindsay doesn't share her location because the bitch is literally Dora. Like, she's out here going all the places. You never know where you might find me. Never. Feeling weird, accepting compliments and deflecting instead. Yes. Yes. Why do we think that is. Did your mom ever say nice things to you growing up? I don't know. Did your dad? Yeah. He did? What did he say? Like, would he be like, oh, you look nice today? My beauty. You've got the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. Are you serious? Yeah. What is that like that your parents complimented you? I think that it instilled something in me, like some level of confidence, like in myself. but then I also, because my parents did it, I feel like I require it from a partner.
Starting point is 00:58:35 Like words of affirmation, I guess. I cannot tell you one single thing that my mom said good about me ever my whole life. And I'm not being dramatic. I am not being dramatic when I say I cannot remember one single compliment my mom ever gave me. Not a single time. That's just so sad. But do you feel like you overcompensate with your kids because she didn't? Yep.
Starting point is 00:58:56 And I make all the boys. She'll Valley how pretty she is too. I said she's not going to be settling for nobody's dusty ass son or daughter. No, because the bare minimum for Valley and for the boys too is going to be, you're going to make sure my daughter knows how pretty she is. If you're going to try to court her anyway, shape or form, date her, whatever, that is going to be bare minimum for her. The standard has to be set at home.
Starting point is 00:59:21 And I tell my boys, too, like, I'll look at Creed sometimes. I'm like, you are so handsome. Like, you're so cute. Or I'll be like, Lux, you are so good at soccer. all the time i just tell them different things but do you feel like you would have still done it if you would have had it yeah but maybe not as much like as soon as valley gets up in the morning i'm like tell your sister how good she looks i don't care if your hair is a mess and then as soon as i get her dress and do her hair ask ike he'll tell you i don't care if he's in the middle of a conversation
Starting point is 00:59:50 with somebody i look at valley tell her how pretty she is i do not care if he's got headphones in and he's listening to fishing. I don't care. It's so insane to me how different of a girl mom you are than when you were just a boy mom. I mean, I always would compliment my sons. No, but your relationship with her is totally different. I love the sass. I really do.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Do you feel like you love having a daughter? Yes. I fucking love it. Like it's your favorite thing. I mean, I love my boys too. Yeah. I love being, I love being a boy mom. My boys have introduced me to being a sports mom, regardless of me not knowing what I'm talking about.
Starting point is 01:00:33 I love going to all their stuff. I love watching professional sports now. Like I do. I feel like now that I have both sexes, I can tap into my girly side with Valley. But her and I are ready to get scrappy with the boys if we have to have to also. I've always wondered what it would be like if I had a daughter. But I don't feel like I would be a good girl mom. Why?
Starting point is 01:00:55 I contrary to what most people probably think I don't think I'm that girly like I feel like you are aesthetically you are girly but maybe like personality you are way girlier in my opinion than what I am like in like tastes of things like what do you mean like shopping um clothes like I hate doing all of that stuff you're so consistent with your nails. The only thing that I'm really consistent with is my hair. Mine is not coming from a girly place. Mine's coming from being vain. Okay.
Starting point is 01:01:36 Because one thing Susie was going to do, she wasn't going to have food in the fridge, but her nails were going to be done. Honey. Susie was not going to make chicken alfredo for me, but her nails were going to be done. And she was like that your whole life? My whole life.
Starting point is 01:01:50 I never saw. My mom filmed without makeup, shockingly, but I don't remember growing up my mom ever going out of the house without makeup. Really? Her hair and makeup were always done. My mom didn't wear sweats growing up. No sweats. She always had her favorite designer perfume, which was called design. It's like a maroon top.
Starting point is 01:02:11 I've seen that, yeah. Yeah. That my mom always had her nails done. There was never a time that Susie wasn't going to have her nails done. That is so crazy. My mom would get so embarrassed about using the EBT card that she just, just wouldn't use it. So we just wouldn't have food in the fridge because she was so vain. Oh, wow. Like she was so embarrassed by it that she wouldn't use it at all. So we just wouldn't
Starting point is 01:02:29 have food. Have they always been cards? The, no, I think they used to be other. Yeah, what point did that change? I only remember the cards. I mean, it just looks like a credit card. But it says EBT across it. Oh. So she was like embarrassed. But they might have switched it to like a debit card looking thing now. I think that's what it looks like. Um, so I think that maybe, the EBT one that was old like that was when I was younger but yeah she was so I would think I get the nail thing from her okay well I want to talk about you acting like you're going to be so sustainable you and I talked about this a couple of weeks ago and you said that you want to start living more sustainably and I want to know what prompted this have you made any changes to start doing this
Starting point is 01:03:19 And like at what point did that just cross your mind? I think over the last like three-ish months, I realized and I know it should have come sooner, like the realization I should have had it sooner. Being a family of nine and then also having my dad and his wife and their daughter, they're part of our family. So essentially 12 of us in the house on most days. I realized how wasteful we are. So it didn't.
Starting point is 01:03:51 It's not just the compost, right? So we started with the farm and giving scraps of food to the pigs. It started there. And then I have a friend who her kids go to school with my kids. She started a company called Mother Nurture for composting. And she was like, well, I can add you to my route. And so now I split certain things between the pigs and the compost. And then I saw, I know it's so fucking stupid, but I saw a video on TikTok
Starting point is 01:04:17 of all the school supplies at Goodwill that I told you about. Yeah. And I'm thinking to myself, like, and we have a dumpster on our farm so that we don't have to do like the bins that rolled down to the driveway. And with that, we're having more trash accumulate because we don't have the recycling trash cans. So then I realized with the amount of waste there is with a family of nine between just packages or papers or, you know, certain things can't be. composted and I was just like the what is it like the carbon footprint yeah like I realized how much
Starting point is 01:04:54 waste comes from us and I want to do better with that so um I ordered the recycling bins I'm going to add that to the kids chore list for them to take it take it down um we do the eggs at the farm so I'm not like buying that and then having the we reuse the egg container so if I give eggs to people or sell eggs hopefully you bring it back and then we reuse them um the compost and then also like the goodwill and stuff and then also because I I realized because I'm selling on Poshmark, why am I not also buying on Poshmark? Right. Like if I can get the exact same sweater and there are options to do new with tags, so you're still getting it at a discounted rate, but instead of buying it from the store and then causing more production. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:40 For a family of nine. So with all that being said, I told the boys and I said this to you on the last episode, I'm not doing, we're not doing new backpacks. Sorry, we're not. We have enough. You guys can rotate, swap, whatever. They're all in good condition and they all are, there is some style for everybody. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. But then also, I found bundles of stuff. So I'll put grab bags up on Poshmark. So it'll be like, yeah, you told me about that. Yeah, all of Valle's two T. I'll do like five pants, five shirts, sell it for 30 bucks. Right. Right. I'm doing that. other people are doing that. So why can I get gently used Nike outfits for Creed because he's big on his clothes. He loves his clothes. So for Lux, I just got a bundle. It was $35 and it had
Starting point is 01:06:26 nine outfits in it. Complete outfits. It wasn't brand new, but also I, and here's the other thing too. I can justify getting some brand new stuff for Lincoln because I know Lincoln style also matches Lux's style and Creed style. So it's going to pass down. So it'll pass down. I feel more comfortable with that. Elliot wants to thrift, so I'm down with that. But if there is something new that he wants, I could also get behind that because the other kids don't really have his style. So they don't recycle.
Starting point is 01:06:52 We don't do up me downs, right? Yeah. So it's like hammy downs. And then Rio and verse are so close in age. Those will also be hammy down. And then Rio is already wearing creed stuff. So there's not really a reason for us outside of like Lincoln maybe getting new stuff. Why can't we just get gently used?
Starting point is 01:07:10 I don't know. It just feels like. as a family of nine we could be so wasteful but we could also put it back into the environment the right way Kale's exact quote was I really want to hold myself accountable for trying not to be as wasteful with a family of nine buying gently used on Poshmark and other places attempting a journey of recycling compost which I've been doing for several months yes I have been composting for probably I don't even know how many months probably more than three how do you even start six months well are we have a local business called mother nurture so definitely check for for that like just look for
Starting point is 01:07:48 composting services you for us i can't speak for everybody she gets um you get a reusable bucket with a compostable bag in it and it's not gross or smelly i think i was so turned off from like crunchy things for a long time because people were saying how like gross it is it's a literal bucket with a lid and a liner in it there's nothing gross about it you can't unless you open it you cannot smell what's in it and What all are you putting in there? Like you're not putting like food down to disposal. You're putting in the compost. Yes.
Starting point is 01:08:17 So all the food scraps and paper products, some paper products can go in there as well. Okay. To be composted. And then anything that is like made of compost I put in the compost. But like for example, we just did crabs. I don't eat seafood, but they picked the crabs. And then when they were done, we put it in compost. Okay.
Starting point is 01:08:33 Cool. So like all the scraps go in compost. You could do. And where do you keep it? We either keep it out back on, because of it. our porch is on the kitchen or we leave it in the kitchen because it doesn't smell with the lid on. And I'm not, I'm not like being dramatic. You literally cannot smell it.
Starting point is 01:08:49 Okay. It's really easy. So check your local, check local businesses first because a lot of people, this is the other thing, too, for recycling. If there is pizza, um, cheese melted in the box for, for, for to recycle, you can't recycle that. So you put that in the recycling and now that whole thing is a waste. Your entire recycle bin is a waste. Because of a pizza box with cheese in it? Yes.
Starting point is 01:09:10 Wow. They can't recycle that. And now it's all, they're not going to spend time digging out what is recyclable. So a lot of your recycled things that are going in the recycling bins are not actually getting recycled. We should start a movement and like, I'm down. Post all the things that can be recycled and what can't because I can promise you, my recycle bin is probably ruined every single week because we've ordered pizza at some point. And then if you bought, if you do like burn piles, I know they're not favorable everywhere, you shouldn't be burning the way. ones that the cardboard that has like a glossy finish with like an advertisement on it,
Starting point is 01:09:46 that should not be burned. Oh, wow. Because the chemicals in it. And it can be composted either because of the glaze or the color or the ink and stuff like that. That's so interesting to me. Do you feel like it's hard to be sustainable when you're so busy? I feel like that's an easy like cop out and excuse.
Starting point is 01:10:09 No, I don't. And I'll tell you why. Yesterday I had, well, my friend had the birthday party at my house. And I literally told everybody there, I gave them a aluminum tray. And I said, hey, please put all your food scraps in this for my pigs and compost. Oh, wow. It's that simple. And then also the woman who runs mother nurture by us, she had a party.
Starting point is 01:10:33 I want to say it was like her son's graduation party. And she said that they went, they only allowed one. She did a whole video. I'll link it. But it was something like one or two bags of trash because they composted the rest. So I don't. And it was like 120 people. So like you're telling me that you're too busy to do what separate your garbage.
Starting point is 01:10:54 I will tell you one thing that I've gotten better about is ordering from Amazon and selecting the like least amount of packages option. You're getting better or you're not good at it? No, like I've gotten better at doing that. Yeah. And you also get rewards for that. Did you know that? I don't know how to collect my rewards. I don't know how to collect them either, but I'm just telling you I've accumulated some rewards.
Starting point is 01:11:19 Well, I would like to know how we get those rewards back. Do you know what I mean? I do what you mean. But I think mine, like one came through and it was like it's for, I can use it like on an audio book or something else. It was like two options that I could use it for. But I haven't. I've only done this two times, by the way, like where you select the least amount of boxes. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:11:44 But it makes the most sense. But we also live in a culture to where, okay, it becomes faster, then we'll just select whatever the fastest option is. Yep. And that's stupid. Yeah, 1,000%. Like, if you need it that bad, we should have thought about it days ago. Or you can do some places offer the option. I think Amazon has the option now where you can just accept it in the instead of putting a box inside a box.
Starting point is 01:12:11 Yeah. You can accept it in the retailers, not the retailer, the company's box instead of having them put it in an Amazon box. That's an option on Amazon? Sometimes. Oh, interesting. Yeah. Like accept companies packaging or something like that, which I do. I don't care.
Starting point is 01:12:33 Okay. You guys can send your small town dramas, your HOA sagas, your diner, local chaos. your family lore, whatever it is, you can send it to info at coffeeconvostpodcast.com. And obviously, if you say it's anonymous, we'll keep it anonymous. This one specifically is from Reddit, though. I did not get on Reddit because I would cry my eyes out if I got on Reddit. This one says, owners of a house near downtown commissioned an artist to paint a rendition of starry night on the wall or fence they have behind their house.
Starting point is 01:13:04 So if their autistic son got lost, he could just tell people he lived at the Van Gogh house. that's actually brilliant. That is such a good idea. The city finds the owners as the artwork was signage, I believe, because the fence didn't match the house. So the owners painted the whole house to match. It's been a year of battling with the city over it. And yesterday, the homeowners won had all their fines against them dropped. And the mayor had to issue a public. And the mayor has to issue a public apology. This house isn't in an HOA. And our town markets itself as an artist's community. The whole thing was ridiculous. this. Okay. So I've said before that I have like a love, hate relationship with HOAs. I think it's great for the value of your property to make sure that like everything staying maintained near you. But in this
Starting point is 01:13:52 situation, there is no HOA. In this situation, this was done specifically for their autistic child. Yeah. And in this situation, it's also an artist community. So why would anybody have anything to say about this. No, I think sometimes people just want fines for the money because it's clear that there's nothing here that's, I mean, even if it wasn't an artist community, take that part out of it. The reason they did it was for their child who has autism. Like to me, it's just a note, like you're going to punish a family for trying to do what's best for their child. This is just, this is crazy to me. Also, just want to mention one thing about Reddit because I saw something that you and I got tagged in. I had previously said I had not been online on social media on anything for a period of time.
Starting point is 01:14:42 And I want people to understand that two things can be true. I have had not been online at all. Was not reading articles, was not reading the news, was not on Instagram, was not on Facebook, was not and have not been on Reddit. it, people also forget that Hunter and Madison also monitor everything. So if something's being said, I could know about it, not from me visually seeing it, but for what was sent to me. Yeah. Wait. Did someone say that you were on Reddit?
Starting point is 01:15:18 Yeah, they were like, oh, well, she's lying because she knows what's being said in here. So she's obviously looking. And it's like, no, I'm not looking. If I'm being alerted to something or someone's screenshoting something to send to me, then yes, I'm going to see it. I can't Reddit is just such, I'm sure it's helpful to some, like in some corners of Reddit, but I only know Reddit to be negative, so I just don't get on there at all. I also don't know how to use Reddit, like the way that the, it's kind of like when you do
Starting point is 01:15:46 an email chain and like after the 10th email, it becomes like you can't find it. Yeah, it's like compressed. Yeah. I don't want any parts of it. I don't want any parts. I, what people hate about us is none of my business. what people hate about me is none of my business. I don't want to know.
Starting point is 01:16:03 And when I know, I fixate. And when I fixate, I hurt. And when I hurt, I say things online that I'm not supposed to say or that I shouldn't say or that I shouldn't post. And so Reddit is not a good place for kale. It's just a very slippery slope. And I have acknowledged the fact that I used to be on there all the time. And when you start reading some of the stuff and you and I talked a little bit about
Starting point is 01:16:24 this, there's like enough truth that's in it. But then 90% is like fabric. appropriated stuff. Like people making up something to try to have a complete story, but only 10% of it's true. Yeah. I mean, I feel like I do that with like true crimes. Sometimes I'm like this is my like so, but they're doing it with our real lives and there's no crimes. A part of them.
Starting point is 01:16:46 Correct. Correct. This week I want to share two things that I saw online. Things to remember on tough days. Pain is part of growing. Everything in life is temporary. Worry and complete. complaining changes nothing. Your scars are symbols of your strength. Every little struggle is a step
Starting point is 01:17:05 forward. Other people's negativities is not your problem. What is meant to be will eventually be, and the best thing that you can do is keep going. Is that your something that made you smile? Yes. Okay. I love that. I also have one more. Okay. All you can change is yourself, but sometimes that changes everything. Yeah. I loved that. I actually loved that too. What made me smile is it's funny because it's not funny and it made me chuckle okay so i was reading a book on my kindle and i just want to say that this it's called the housewife not the housemaid not a housemaid it's called the housewife starts off with a bang okay one of the first will say 20 pages there's a line that says the secret with blood is speed you have to soak the fabric in cold water as
Starting point is 01:18:00 soon as possible so the stain doesn't set. Okay. Okay. To the naked ear. Doesn't. Doesn't make sense to me. No, nobody cares. Okay.
Starting point is 01:18:10 You don't want the blood to stain. 75 people highlighted that on Kindle. And I'm concerned. Because are you thinking about killing someone and getting rid of the evidence? Like, why did you highlight that? Why did you highlight that? Were you one of the people that did it? No.
Starting point is 01:18:28 I took a picture of it. And I'm, I send it to book club and I said, I'm concerned. Oh, because when you're going through your Kindle, you see what other people. Yes. Have highlighted. So, like, you can, like Abby Jimenez's book. Yeah. I read it.
Starting point is 01:18:40 I read them on my Kindle before. It'll say like 3,000 people highlighted this exact quote. So this particular one, 75 people. Why did you highlight that? I'm, I'm worried about you. It's. But it made me chuckle because I'm like, this is literally a thriller and you're highlight. wait so I didn't know that that's what the highlight feature was used for oh yeah I highlight a lot of
Starting point is 01:19:07 stuff I have never highlighted anything on my Kindle ever well like if something really resonates and yeah like like on a regular physical book I might tab it but can you go back to only the highlighted parts are you can share your highlighted sections to good reads if you want to so that like somebody knows it's kind of like posting a status on Facebook you can like highlight that section and share it to good reads. Can you imagine if that's the one thing that you highlight it? Like if that would imagine they're like kale's rotting and it's like no. But I also always thought and I hope this isn't TMI for our new elevated situation. But like I've been rinsing my panties out like the blood. I've been rewring them out with cold water because I thought or sorry, I would have been
Starting point is 01:19:53 rinsing my the blood out of my panties with warm water because I thought warm water got rid of the blood not cold because I would just throw my panties you have to soak the fabric in cold water as soon as possible let me google this because I don't now I'm upset wait wait can we go back to the panties thing for a second so where are you rinsing these out in the sink or in the shower like you'll get in the shower and take them in there with you and rent it while you wash like if I'm about if I bled through and I'm about to get in the shower, I'll take the underwear in with me to rinse them. Oh. Or if I'm not about to shower and, like, I bled through, I rinse them in my bathroom sink.
Starting point is 01:20:32 You don't just throw it in the kitchen sink? Yeah, like, I'll rinse it out, though, first because I don't know when I'll start that. Watch. Yeah. I'm not going to just leave one panties in the washer. But poor Ike, I mean, he's never seen someone bleed as much as me. So he's stuck pig. It's been bad.
Starting point is 01:20:49 Yeah. Like, that's insane. Wait, I need to Google this, though, because. Because I'm concerned. Should it, do you soak? I don't know. What are you typing in?
Starting point is 01:20:58 Do you soak period panties? Yeah, we'll say period panties. Because I don't want them to think that I was like. Correct. Yeah. Do you soak period panties in cold or warm water? So the blood doesn't stain.
Starting point is 01:21:14 Can you imagine if someone ever saw our chat GPT history? Oh, they would get, they would laugh at mine. Oh, wow. I've been doing it wrong the whole time. What's it say? cold water helps keep blood from setting into the fabric while warmer hot water can cause blood proteins to bind more firmly to the fibers making stains harder to remove and I'm very particular
Starting point is 01:21:34 about my period panties so and um the closest thing that I've been able to find to my beloved target ones that are no longer made they make them differently now is skims and ebby is it because the texture yeah it's a texture thing a full coverage thing Yeah, my skims panties, like the very few pair of underwear that I have. The texture is just like phenomenal. I love. I'm wearing skims underwear right now. Like if you want something good on your kuchi, it's skims.
Starting point is 01:22:08 It is skims. And on that note, that's all we have for you guys today.
