Starting point is 00:00:00 I hate gift giving and receiving. Receiving gifts is so weird. What do you say thank you? This is coffee convoes with Kail Lowry and Lindsay Crisley. I really want you to be in your feels, Kail. That does not interest me whatsoever. I feel very attacked by you. A spirited discussion about motherhood, friendship, family, and life in the public eye.
Starting point is 00:00:18 I'm just not with the fakery anymore. There's a fakery bakery around here. Here's Kail and Lindsay. All right, everybody. I am in my favorite place, my new favorite place. in the whole world. Charlotte? Yes.
Starting point is 00:00:33 I want to move here. This is exactly where I want to move. I thought you were going to be my neighbor. I am probably. Full transparency. I hate that fucking word. I told you this. The exact same thing I'm looking for in North Carolina is fraction of the price in Georgia.
Starting point is 00:00:50 So we will probably end up in Georgia. But I still love Charlotte. I love Charlotte as well, but I obviously am partial to Atlanta. It gives me when I got here, because I haven't actually been. to the city of Charlotte like I am like we are right now it reminds me a lot of Dallas which I love Dallas. It also reminds me of Dallas too. And so Dallas would have been if I wouldn't have had to pay for like five round trip flights multiple times a year if we were to move there instead of like the south where you can drive. I would have done Dallas well among other reasons why but um the downtown
Starting point is 00:01:24 like this whole area reminds me of Dallas and I think that's why I love it. But Atlanta does too. It's interesting because I don't love Dallas. You don't? No. But you also love Philly and I don't. I know. Isn't that so crazy? Like I love Philly.
Starting point is 00:01:39 But you know what? So I love Philly to visit. I do not, I never want to live in Philly. Oh, well, I didn't say I wanted to live there. I just like to go there. Yeah. And I like New York City. I like to go to New York City for like a day or two.
Starting point is 00:01:51 But I think one place that you and I absolutely agree on is that we are not L.A. or California people. at all. No, I have no desire. I don't even really like to travel there usually. I just don't understand the culture there. Like, I will say this. I am jealous of all the creators and people who can get together and do tons of crossover. Trisha and Tanna, Harry Jowsy, like all of those people can get together and do all the things together if they wanted to. And so much happens in L.A. But it was just not sustainable. I mean, none of those people have kids. Oh, Tricia does. I could never imagine raising a child there, ever.
Starting point is 00:02:31 It's such an interesting take. I also wonder, like, did they grow up there? I'm going to go with a majority no. Oh. Why, you would say a majority, yes. Yeah, I would just, I know Harry Jousie said that he's from New Zealand or Australia or something. I was actually watching the interview of you and Harry Jalzi, and I thought it was hilarious. You did?
Starting point is 00:02:51 Yeah, I loved it. That one I got a lot of love for. Like, they were like, oh, Kail's funny. And you know, that's like the best compliment you can give me is saying I'm funny. So I was really excited about that. And when you guys started talking about the, um, Farah interview that he did, I was falling out. I forgot about that. Usually you know when I say something on a podcast, I don't remember anything after that.
Starting point is 00:03:13 I forgot that he mentioned Farah. But she, I actually just saw when I was doom scrolling this morning, um, I saw that she's on the ballot for Austin to run for off it, like a position. everybody's known that for. No, but she's officially on it now. Like, it's like, it's official. But remember when she thought that she was going to, like, be running and the seat, like, wasn't even up or whatever it's called? Like, the position wasn't?
Starting point is 00:03:42 There's no way that Farah Abrams would be a governor. You know what? What's crazy about, and this is not talking shit. This is, like, I'm, this is my opinion. Farah can be so well spoken. she does have some really good things to say. Like some of the stuff that she says makes sense. Farah can have some good stuff to say.
Starting point is 00:04:03 But then she doesn't. I don't know if it's that she doesn't have good stuff to say. I think it's like the presentation and the way that it's said. Okay. I could get behind that. Because like her take on motherhood and her daughter, I'm big, as you know, and everyone knows that I'm really big on letting your kids express themselves in terms of like what they wear, what they dress, obviously within reason, right?
Starting point is 00:04:26 Yeah. Farah has let Sophia, Farah doesn't strike me as someone who would accept her daughter who is Gothic. Like she doesn't, I would have never pictured her accepting her daughter, but she has fully accepted it, embraced her daughter's style. And it seems like Sophia is really happy with her. So, and Sophia would know more than anybody else in the world. I honestly would have expected that she would have wanted her to, to look all the parts in the same way that Farah looks, right?
Starting point is 00:04:53 Yeah, 1,000%. That's exactly what I picture. but not at all. And I love that. Love it for her. While I was doomed scrolling this morning, I ran across something on my Facebook that says that a man was kicked out of an IMAX theater after bringing a fully functioning crock pot of chili and selling bowls in the back row. And like I could get behind something like this. First of all, that's genius. And I fully support that. Also, if there's no rules, like where do you go to see the rules of a movie theater?
Starting point is 00:05:21 Well, I think it's like unwritten rules, right? Like you're not supposed to go to the dollar store and buy candy and bring it in and your purse, but like we all do it. It doesn't say no outside food. No, it's like the unwritten rule because they have concessions. You're not supposed to bring it in. I mean, yeah, I guess. It's like you're undercutting the business.
Starting point is 00:05:44 I'll tell you what. Our movie theater, we don't have one anymore. We have to drive 45 minutes. And they have heated reclining seats. And I bring my blankie. Oh, we do that too. And I love to do like a pajama night at the reclining seat theater. Oh, I love it.
Starting point is 00:05:59 But you do have to shower after because they're kind of gross. Well, yes. But we do, we'll go like in the evening and we'll put on PJs, take blankets, recline, have dinner. I love that. And watch a movie. I love that. But would you, if you saw somebody bring a crock pot in, like, would you buy chili from them? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I absolutely would buy chili from them. I'm going to be a little vain. I got to see what they look like first. And I will be asking. Do you even know what chili is? Yeah. Have you ever had chili? Yeah, Hormel.
Starting point is 00:06:33 No, it's not Hormel. I will eat Hormel chili. Nope, I will eat Hormel chili cold out of a can. I don't care. I grew up on Hormel chili. But I feel like Hormel chili is what you would put on a hot dog. No, I'm going to eat it like chili. I'm going to put cheese and sour cream on it and dip my crackers in it.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Do you like chili from Wendy's? Yeah, but I'm going to eat it like chili from Wendy's. Yeah. I like Hormel better? That's really wild. I mean, we're talking about, I'm Susie's daughter. Speaking of unwritten rules, so everyday social etiquette rules, nobody has ever written down, but you're going to silently be judged for breaking.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Okay. So I'm going to give some examples, and I feel like we're going to be absolutely opposite on this. Okay. The first one is elevator behavior. Me and I got making out in the elevator the other day. And the doors opened. We were having such a, I don't know, it was like, it felt like an intimate moment, right? And it's like on a public elevator.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Nobody was in there. I think it was late. The doors open. And the woman, was it a woman or a man? It was a guy just standing there. And I'm like, watching y'all? And I got embarrassed. No, babe, no, it was Minnesota when Sunny came to the elevator.
Starting point is 00:07:51 That's what I'm talking about. You're talking about last night. It happened twice. So we get stuck in Minnesota and the hotel was so accommodating for us to have to stay another night, even though they were having a ton of stuff. There was a woman at the front desk named Sunny. And she was so sweet. She was giving us all the things, all the tips and tricks for navigating this area.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And we go in the elevator and we're like kind of feeling defeated but we're okay, right? The door's closed, but then they open back up and we're just like having to make out session. real quick. And Sunny is just like trying to give us water bottles. Do you feel like you couldn't have waited to do the makeout session when you got to your private area? Like it was just so hot and heavy. It was just a moment and we thought we were alone really quick. So it was like sweet. And then it was funny because I started, we just started laughing. Okay. So in the elevator, do you face the door? Usually. I mean, it depends. Sometimes I stand on the side and face.
Starting point is 00:08:54 the other way. It just depends. I'm always facing the door. Like to get the fuck out. Yeah. And I always try. Like, I hate being at the back of the elevator. I like to be at the front. So I'm probably going to be rude as fuck when somebody goes to get on the elevator. I'm not scooting back.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Here's the thing about me. I would rather take the next elevator than get on an elevator with other people. Same. So, like, I'll just, I don't care if it's one person in the elevator. I'll get the next one. There's been times that I've been leaving a hotel. and the elevator will open up and it'll be a family in there. And I'm like, I'll just wait for the next one. Yep, same. And it's not to be, I'm not trying to be rude. It's just, y'all go. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Is small talk required? No, for the level, stop the small talk. We don't want to do it anymore. We're tired. Our brains are tired. We have decision making fatigue. We hate men. We carry the mental load. We don't want to do small talk. I'm going to small talk in an elevator for sure. You are. You're in there with a stranger. What are you going to say? Well, if it was like this morning, I would say, good morning, how are you? But you don't even care how they are. Well, no.
Starting point is 00:10:03 You don't even know their name. I don't know your name. So what I don't need to. The funny thing is, I talk all this shit and I don't even practice what I preach. Like, I literally hate small talk and then I participate in it. I know you do. You are the ultimate small talker. Do you want to see what the video my dad sent me?
Starting point is 00:10:22 I need to show you this. I know it's not related to elevators, but my medicine has not kicked in. You know we got a cow. Yes. Look what my dad got said cow. Oh my gosh. One of the scrubbers.
Starting point is 00:10:35 So my dad, you guys, for those of you, if you're new here, my dad who is not really my dad, but I call him my dad. He just sent me a video of pork chop, our new cow. He bought pork chop a scratching post
Starting point is 00:10:49 and the cow loves it. It definitely looks like. like it does. Listen, I know this is not about elevators, but I do need to say something that absolutely freaks me out. Goat's eyes. Yeah. Like why are they sideways? I have crazy videos of them being sideways. Do you want to see? Yeah. But why are the eyes like that? I think I could be dead wrong. Maybe for like to be vigilant if they're like going to be attacked or something. they need to see. Well, why would you be seeing sideways?
Starting point is 00:11:23 Well, my thought was because it's like this way, you're getting peripheral. Like our pupils, wait, hold on, I have a question. Do we see with our whole eye or just the pupil? I don't think we see with the color part. I don't think we see with the color part. I think it's just the. So their pupils, then if that's the case, if we only see with our pupils, which is crazy because ours are so small.
Starting point is 00:11:46 I think theirs go this way so they can see peripherals then. but why would that only apply to goats? That's a great question. See, that's just so freaky. I can't get behind something like that. And their eyes bulge out too. But what's the point of having goats, I guess? There's no point.
Starting point is 00:12:05 So you just collect them? No, I don't know. Some people like milk their goats for goat milk. I don't. I just like the companionship. You know, I like going down. The kids have absolutely loved the farm. Like the kids just want to go see the animals every day.
Starting point is 00:12:24 And like that's enough for me to have a farm. How are these goats your companion? They're not really my companion. The kids love them. The kids want to go down. The kids want to show you this video too. It is a good, it's a valid question. I could have definitely gotten behind you having animals for a purpose for a farm, right?
Starting point is 00:12:45 Like chickens, we're going to get eggs. Yeah. Speaking of, I just saw something on Facebook the other day, and I think it was at Trader Joe's, and it was like hatchable eggs. Have you seen that? Like, it's like an egg, but it's a chick, I think it's got a chicken in it. And you can buy it at Trader Joe's, I think. I don't like that. That's weird, right? That feels weird. That's Lux and Cream cleaning out the chicken coop. I mean, I love that they do this and clean up shit. Like, I love this for you and it's a chore and it's teaching them work ethic and all of the things.
Starting point is 00:13:24 I'm just the amount of goats and the amount of animals that you have would send me to the moon. Like if I pulled up to your house and all those animals came running, I'm turning around. Oh, they will. They will. So if you ever come to my house and then you come up to the, like, you don't have to go on the farm, but if you even walk up to the fence, immediately, everybody's coming. The chickens, the ducks, the goats, and probably not pork chop. Wait, why do you have ducks? They also provide eggs, and those eggs are good for baking. Do they taste the same?
Starting point is 00:13:54 No, I wouldn't. I'm not scrambling a duck egg. This episode is brought to you by BetterHelp. If you could wake up tomorrow and be better at one thing, what would it be? For me, I would say time management and also maybe multiplying myself so I can be in multiple places at once. Honestly, you can relate to all of that. But either way, being better is that. feeling better. Better is a feeling. It's defined by you. And for better help, it's a better help
Starting point is 00:14:19 therapist who actually gets you. It's a focus on global emotional well-being with thousands of therapists and millions of members in over 100 countries and it's progress. And for me, it's getting better at taking time for myself and just feeling a little bit less chaotic and spending just intentional time with Jackson and time away from my phone and social media. If that is anything like you, this is your sign to sign up and get 10% off at betterhelp.com slash coffee. That's betterhelp.com slash coffee. Back to the small talk thing. You actually are a hypocrite. Yeah. Because every single time I have been around you where there has been a stranger, you will tell them intimate details about your life story.
Starting point is 00:15:15 get on this podcast and be like, know why the fuck are we doing small talk? Yeah. No, you're right. Actually, I got embarrassed yesterday, I think it was. I interviewed someone for barely famous.
Starting point is 00:15:27 And after the recording, she like said something to me. We were talking about gluten, I think. Or she, because she's a health, like a health girlie. Like she loves all the wellness things.
Starting point is 00:15:39 And she was saying how she has a couple of people in her life that are gluten-free. And so they, but they actually like would do that by choice or whatever and didn't realize that the skincare can have gluten in it or whatever and she was like but like what does it do like what does it do? Like what does it do? And I said well I was shitting my pants and I had vowed to stop talking about that publicly and Ike is looking at me like stop talking about it. TMI like you just met her and I'm like see her in my podcast she would know anyway. So I don't want to like make it like a regular thing but I mean I won't be anymore.
Starting point is 00:16:14 But do you tell all these strangers, like intimate life details about yourself because you're like uncomfortable in the silence? Or like why do you do it? Yeah, I don't know why I do it. I actually think it's a quality that I picked up from Bone, my friend Bone. Like she does that? Bone is like I feel like I took on her entire personality because she's like what is like self deprecating. Yeah. She'll call herself out before anybody else.
Starting point is 00:16:44 She taught me that. like she and she's younger than me she's a few years younger than me but ever since i met her and was friends with her like and i respected it about her and i thought it like obviously certain things are tmi but i respected her for it because i'm like you're you're never going to let somebody else call you out you're owning it you know it you're acknowledging it whether you change it or not you know it about yourself and i felt like i from like the comments of teen mom and the podcast and things like that's like nobody else like yes you know i'm like yeah people can hurt my feelings, but like I'm aware of all these things.
Starting point is 00:17:19 I'll just call myself out. And if people can laugh about it, then it helps me make peace with it. My dad raised all of his kids. He always used to tell us growing up, tell on yourself before somebody else has the opportunity to do that. And I feel like I do that as well. And it's so funny because if you pay attention, people do it all the time, not in the way that I do it.
Starting point is 00:17:41 I do it like, I'll own my shit. You know what I mean? No pun intended. Other people do it. If you pay attention to what they say, they tell on themselves and they don't mean to. We're like we're trying to do it. We're doing it with intent. Listen to like kids and stuff.
Starting point is 00:17:59 If you're like, oh, what are you doing? I'm not eating candy. Adults do that too. Adults will tell on themselves in a regular conversation. And you're just like, yeah. Do what? Do what? It's so funny because since you and I became,
Starting point is 00:18:16 friends, I would always, like since we've been doing this podcast, if I was getting like hair and makeup done, for example, prior to being friends with you, I would request like silent appointments. Because like, what are we talking about? I have also adopted that from you except for with Taylor. I love Taylor. And I, Taylor, it's like weird because I want to say she's one of my best friends, but obviously she's not one of my best friend. She's just a good friend of mine. I'll tell her everything in that appointment. She'll tell me things and then we never speak of it again. And I love it. But then we also text. But any other appointment, zip it. Like if I go to get a blowout on Fridays, sometimes I'll be like, well, can I just do a silent appointment today? Do you say it verbally or is it on like a form?
Starting point is 00:19:03 Oh, no, verbally. I'll just be like I would prefer a silent appointment today. Like I'm not trying to offend, but. My problem is that I have no fucking problem. going toe to toe with my man or my exes, but I can't ask for a quiet appointment when I do something. Like you would need to write it on a form? I don't even know that I would do that.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Like it sounds good and I want that, but I don't know that I would do it because I'm scared to offend. But I will offend my man, my kids' dads, whoever. I just sometimes think like the service industry is so wild because people go in unload on those people. And it's like they're not therapists. Like, why are people doing that? I'll ask Taylor what she thinks about it.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I'm sure she knows more tea than some of these people's therapists, though. I've always said I would love to find a group of hairstylist to do a podcast. Like, I would produce said podcast because the amount of things that they come across. I told Taylor, I said, you should do a podcast like behind the chair or something like that. Yeah. But she said that because Delaware is so small, if she had that podcast, it would be kind of easy to track down. But the softy podcast by Meg Hardy, she's like a big hair. She has like 300,000 followers.
Starting point is 00:20:27 She has a podcast. And do they talk about like all the? I want to say they have. I don't think they always do, but I want to say they have. Don't quote me on that. But then sometimes I think like maybe the people that are going and unloading on these hair stylists and makeup artist and whatever, maybe they have no one else to talk. to. So it just feels like a safe space.
Starting point is 00:20:49 I don't know. Have you ever had like a person in your life that you just feel way more comfortable sharing information with that person than a therapist? Like I feel like sometimes that is a safe space and you just have to say it one time and then never. I don't know. Oh no. If I have something to talk about, I'm going to say it 95 times.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Same. To make sure that everybody knows about it. Oh yeah. Same. And then I'll probably still talk about it for a little bit until I'm over it. Like I have to talk myself out of it. Out of it. I did it yesterday and the whole drive here.
Starting point is 00:21:20 It was like, what, three and a half hours to get here? I know. And I was doing it yesterday too. And I'm just saying the same thing. And then Ike is telling me and I'm looking at him and I'm like, I know, but I, I just need to say it 12,200 times. That's it. Okay. Next elevator question.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Where do you stand if it's just you and one other person? I'm going to try to be on the opposite side of said person facing. the door. I'll say either making out with them or standing horizontal. Kail, that wasn't the question. Where do you stand if it's just you and one other person? They're not asking if you're making out with Ike on the elevator. Oh, well, I'm not going to be on the elevator. We're talking like a stranger. I just dropped coffee down my shirt on coffee combos podcast. You also didn't tell me that it was a pajama party, but here we are. I just didn't unpack my suitcases. That's all that was. I wash those pajamas for you. Yeah, you did. Thank you. I really do appreciate that. And I'm still going to wear them
Starting point is 00:22:13 tonight even though I spilled coffee on that. I only brought two pairs of pajamas. I know that you said that they're not asking if I was making out with Ike. But what I'm saying is if that if I was in an elevator with one other person, it would be him. You don't know that. I do. Let's say if you're at a mall, you're at a hotel and there's one person on there and you click the button and you go to get on the elevator. Where are you standing in comparison to them? First of all, where do you live that there are elevators in your mall. There's a, there's no elevators in our mall. Is your mall one floor? Yep. Why is your mall one floor? And half vacant. Oh yeah. Isn't that so weird? And then our other mall that's also only one floor that's about an hour away. We just lost our Nordstrom. And that was the only thing. That's the only part that had escalators was the
Starting point is 00:23:03 Nordstrom was two story. So when I was in high school, we always used to go to the mall and it would be like a friend hang out and we'd go to the food court and then go shopping. I think the stores that were popular back then were journeys. Deb. Deb was not at the mall. Yes, it was. It was not my mall. It was wet seal. Oh, we had wet seal and Deb at the mall. Oh, wow. You guys were really doing big time. Our mall, me and Ike's mall growing up didn't have Nordstrom. It only had Macy's. Did Nordstrom just come around like in the last decade? No, I don't think so. Like it's been around for a while? I think it's been around for a while, but it's like higher. And we also had Baskovs.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Did you have that? Cookies? No, Bostcoves. The store. I know, but isn't that the same, the Delta cookie? Biskopf. Biskopf. I don't like Biskopf.
Starting point is 00:23:54 People love Biskopf and I don't like it. I love it. And to like dip it like in a coffee? The way that it gets caked into my teeth and like it doesn't come out. Are we okay? No. Okay. Remember when we said we were going to elevate the podcast and we're talking about Bisc.
Starting point is 00:24:11 coffee getting stuck in our teeth. Yeah. So the stores that were popular back then were journeys, and everybody was wearing New Balance. Remember, like the 571s? No, nobody wore New Balance. New Balance is no, they were not. I promise you, New Balance, where we're from in the Northeast, New Balance came back around. I would say Pennsylvania and Delaware within the last five years. Nobody was wearing New Balance when we were in high school or when we were just fresh out of high school. They were still the pop-up shoe. Oh, what? Pop-up shoe. What's that? Like, for old people. Yeah, I mean, the white ones that have, like, the blue around them and... No, I promise you, New Balance did not become popular for us until, like, five years ago. Oh, I had a pair of pink
Starting point is 00:24:56 New Balance when I was in ninth grade and thought it was the coolest thing. And, like, I learned how to, like, lay shoes the way that's, like, not the proper way, I guess. Yeah. And absolutely loved it. So I was hanging out at the food court, getting... pizza what's it called sabarro yep i still fuck up a sabbar well not anymore but love it yeah same love it um wet seal yep uh american eagle yes but all of that was like on the top floor of our mall and then on the bottom floor i want to say it was like anne taylor loft and like that kind of stuff so ours was different it was just kind of spread out we also would fuck up a we didn't have a food court in our mall it was just scattered food places. Oh, wow. Yeah, it was really weird. Oh, I used to have like a Hollister
Starting point is 00:25:46 moment and then I would want Abercrombie and Fitch, but it was like never at the same time. Oh, by us, it was like you went to both. If you shoped at Hollister, you also shopped at Abercrombie, but at that time, they did not support Kirby girls. And when I look back at pictures, I wasn't curvy. I wasn't thick. I wasn't, I was a little bit bigger than like the skinny girls, but I wasn't, not by much. And I still didn't fit into Abercrombie and anything that I did fit into, I stole from, like I didn't steal. Ariel would let me borrow it. Do you remember when like people started working and like all the pretty people worked at Abercrombie and Fitch and you had to go through like a casting or whatever? And I'm like, oh my God,

Well, our mall in Delaware, like the one that is within 20 minutes of my house,
Starting point is 00:28:20 is almost all the way vacant. There's no good stores in it. There is still a food court. They took the movie theater out. There's dicks sporting goods. But it's almost all vacant. Like they took the Hollister out. they took, I'm trying to think what other, there's, there's like nothing left in there.
Starting point is 00:28:37 That's how our mall is too, because everything moved to like the more outdoor mall model. Okay. And so the regular mall, it has like the stores that have like poppits and like weird stuff like that. I do like the outdoor mall model, but we don't have, I guess we don't have real estate for it. I don't know. But like what happens to the real estate? Like once all the stores are gone, like, who's paying for that? I guess whoever owns it.
Starting point is 00:29:09 I don't know. And then does it get demolished because malls are basically going out and then something else is put there? In Delaware, there's this place called the Blue Hen. I think it used to be a mall. And it's huge. It's massive. And then across the street is an entire strip of like what would be shops. There's a gym.
Starting point is 00:29:29 There's a tanning salon. They're all vacant except for the gym and the tanning. so on. They're all vacant and have been for years. And then that mall, they, since we moved to Delaware in 2013, it was closed. But you can picture the size of a mall. They ended up putting, if I'm speaking correctly, and anyone in Delaware can correct me if I'm wrong. They ended up putting like businesses in there, like corporate stuff. Yeah. And then the rest of it is vacant. I just don't understand. Like, why are, like, okay, not to get all humanitarian, whatever, political. It's not meant to be political, but like, could we not make it like a second chance
Starting point is 00:30:11 homing system? Could we make it like dorms for the home? Like, I don't know. It just feels like it's going to waste, you know? I just wonder how much it cost for someone to own one of those malls and then the stores all kind of like, because ours phased out over time. So it's like when pottery barn they got a spot at the outdoor mall that store went and then like other stores would go so i'm wondering if it's like when the leases are up they're like letting it go i think at ours they just can't afford the rent so it's not like in the demographics and um are i don't know what i'm trying to say our demographics don't support certain stores so they aren't even coming to begin with so we're opening a mall with stores that are not necessarily needed and everybody's driving either an
Starting point is 00:31:06 hour to the beach or an hour north to get to the bigger mall for the bigger stuff. So the stores, like the stores that they're putting in our local mall are not sustainable, but also our downtown area is so stunning. And it's just riddled with prostitution and drugs. Like it's so bad that businesses can't stay open. Houses can't sell. They can't go for rent. They're getting broken into and robbed. There's human poop all over the place. A friend of mine is doing like this whole thing downtown Dover to like try to make it better and get answers for why this is happening and what is the cleanup plan and all of this but I don't know what to say about it but it sounds like we don't even have a pottery barn not even at our mall an hour away we don't do people still shop at
Starting point is 00:31:45 pottery barn I love pottery barn I love it okay next we're going to talk about texting expectations how fast is too slow to respond I don't give a fuck anymore I'm too old to care how fast or quickly you text back unless it's an urgent matter. Like, I'll probably text you and then forget that I text you. And if you don't respond for three days, I don't remember until one of us texts each other again. But like if it's an urgent matter, like how fast are you expecting somebody's going to respond? Like off the rip? I will say, okay, so yesterday felt like an urgent matter.
Starting point is 00:32:19 So on this tour, the company that booked the tour for me has a travel team. Travel team books all my accommodations. check into the hotel somebody and I'm not mad I'm not let me just clarify that right off the bat I'm not mad this just felt urgent we get in at 9 p.m. I'm on the phone with my lawyer I'm trying to check into the hotel at the same time I was also on the same call and I was trying to check in yes so I've had it on mute I'm trying to check in I'm listening to you guys I'm whatever and I go is this a double room and they say no it's a king room and I said okay I'm really sorry it was meant to be a double room, I have another guest coming, which was Becky. And I had said before the tour, I told the travel
Starting point is 00:33:01 team to save on costs, I wanted everybody to double up on rooms. Like, we're all comfortable with each other. This isn't like I'm asking for somebody we don't know to sleep in our room. This is family. This is family. Becky stays with us all the time. Like, it's fine. And she's like, no, we're completely booked tonight. And this is not a double room. It's a king room. So I panic. And I'm like, okay, I have to book Becky a room. So I text my tour manager. And then I'm like, I text Rebecca. Rebecca's asleep. I text my tour manager. that felt like an urgent matter. So when my tour manager didn't text back right away, I was like, okay.
Starting point is 00:33:34 So then I just did it myself. I think I gave her three minutes. Oh, wow. I was just panicking because, well, I wasn't, and I didn't get mad at her. I just was like, never mind. I'm just doing it myself because I didn't want. You needed an immediate solution. Yes, because if this one was full, my thought, my immediate thought was, oh my God,
Starting point is 00:33:55 everywhere else is probably full, which call the next hotel and he says that they are packed as well. He can't extend it because I booked it online and then I said, oh, fuck, I only booked it for one night instead of two nights. Let me call. I get on the phone and he's like, no, we don't have any room. Like there's a convention going on. I was wondering what was going on here because there were so many people at my hotel. That's why you couldn't book here and the flights went up or the cost of these rooms went up because of the, I think because of that because we booked this way in advance and it was like 250 bucks. Oh yeah. It was not 250 bucks. It was $1,400, I think. Okay. Is leaving someone on red rude? No, I think that it is passive aggressive, which I guess is
Starting point is 00:34:40 rude, but like it's a statement, you know? What is it? Leaving someone on red. Is it rude? No, but also turn off your read receipts. Oh, no, I love to have mine on. I don't you can turn them on per person are mine on for you no let me check this out I feel like you're making it up oh yeah I'm okay so I have it on certain people that if they send me a text and I read it and I don't respond like you know I got it you know I saw it and I'm not responding I don't know how I feel about that or any of your read receipts on for anybody Mm-mm. Not for any single person.
Starting point is 00:35:25 It's kind of like that mentality of, I want you to know that I received it, but either I'm too busy right now in this current moment to respond, but like you know I got it. But then also, if I don't respond, you know I don't give a fuck. I don't know how I feel about this because I feel like I hate when people, I hate when I get a text. I read it. I hate the notification. So I read it. I don't unread it. And then I forget to go back to it. I hate when I do that to other people. I don't want to do it to other people, but I also do it to other people. So I guess I just like don't care around across the board. Well, I just turned on my read receipts for you. So now it's going to piss you off. I don't think it's actually going to make me feel better because you have a thousand unread text messages. So if I see that you read it, I know you got it. So then I'm not going to take that personally. See, that proves my point. But not everybody can do that. Like if I put on his read receipts, reads a text message and doesn't respond to me,
Starting point is 00:36:32 I'm coming for his neck. Also just proved my other point. You just proved both of my points. In the same, okay, that's fine. That's fine. So I used to date somebody that I immediately, when we started dating, put the read receipts on. And if we were in an argument, I would immediately read. the text and know that they immediately got the read receipt and it would piss them off so bad,
Starting point is 00:37:01 I would get blast off messages. I'm like, you're still going to get the read receipt on these too. And like, I'm not. Do they have that for emails? Because I would appreciate it if they did it for emails. I wish they did that too. But I also hate emails. Can someone, okay, if anyone is listening to this podcast that is some sort of technology engineer
Starting point is 00:37:21 or something. Why would an engineer be listening to this podcast? You know how we do scroll and lose brain cells and we like it? Yeah. Maybe they're listening to this podcast to lose brain cells and they like it. What's your question? Can we please make email chains easier to follow? Because I'm struggling.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Oh, you mean like when they get compressed? Yes. Because sometimes even when you go to reply all, you don't know which fucking section you're replying all to. and then you click to expand them. And it's like this. And then it gets lost. I don't know what's going on.
Starting point is 00:38:00 I feel like you just need to verse yourself better on email. No. Because sometimes I will get an email from you. Number one, it won't even be a complete thought. Number two, nothing in the email is actually answered. And it's all your ideas of what you want answered, but you've answered nobody. That's never happened. That has never happened.
Starting point is 00:38:29 Kiel. Below are my responses in blue. Thought, statement, question answered. No. Or, okay, the below response might be in blue, and then she might type, I don't know about this. Oh, that is true. But it's a complete thought. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:49 No, then you should have thought to know. before you just typed, I don't know. I am going to work with a developer to create a better emailing system. Kail, I don't think the problem is the email system. I think the problem is the fact that it frankly you. And I do know what you're talking about. So if you're like in a thread and there's 13 emails, right? And on the original email, it was multiple people attached.
Starting point is 00:39:22 And then maybe your lawyer's on the email. And so only certain like privileged people get it. And then you want to reply to that email, but not to the initial email. Then you just go to that email. But sometimes I want to just respond to the very last thing in the chain. And I'm trying to follow. Then you respond to the last email. Or if you go back into your email, like I'm a big unreader, like read the email, see what's going on,
Starting point is 00:39:48 unread it, come back to it later, right? Yeah. I love that too. Same. And you can do it on text messages, but I hate the little notification. So I'll go into the email that's like a whole chain and I'll click it. But that, whatever is unread is not the last thing that was said. And so you'll search for what you're trying to respond to and it doesn't come up.
Starting point is 00:40:12 And I can't tell you how many, like co-parenting with hobby, a lot of it is done via email. So sometimes when I go back to look for certain emails in a chain, they're not even there. or I'm not looking correct. Like, it's frustrating. It's just you're not looking correctly. Well, nobody told anybody to give me an email address. I wish that you didn't have an email address. Just text me, call me, beat me if you want to reach me.
Starting point is 00:40:40 Oh, my God. All right, y'all, let's take a quick break to talk about Rocket Money. I know that it can be so overwhelming, just organizing finances. and I totally feel for anybody who is going through that, probably most of us. When I think about my finances and setting a budget, it is truly the last thing that I want to think about when I could be doing so many other things. And Rocket Money has helped me so much and I feel so much less stress because of Rocket Money.
Starting point is 00:41:10 I also love other features that Rocket Money has the subscriptions. For example, Rocket Money can track subscriptions and also has the ability to cancel unwanted within the app with just a few taps. So it's giving users an easy way to stop paying for things that they don't use. We have probably all been a victim of signing up for a free trial. We have probably all been a victim of signing up for a free trial and then forgetting to cancel it. And I also love the automatic transaction categorization across all accounts.
Starting point is 00:41:42 You're able to customize categories and tags to be able to reveal different spending patterns. And this was super helpful for me. Rocket Money is so user-friendly. I cannot recommend it more. Rocket Money is a personal finance app that helps find and cancel unwanted subscriptions, monitors your spending, and helps lower your bills so that you can grow your savings. Let Rocket Money help you reach your financial goals faster. Join at RocketMoney.com slash coffee combos. That's rocketmoney.com slash coffee combos. Okay. Do you have to say buy before ending a text combo? Convo, absolutely not. No. Like what are we saying bye for? Although, where are we going? There is one person I love with all my heart and she will text me like, we'll talk, we'll talk about the kids. And then she'll be like, all right, I'm getting on this meeting. I'll talk to you later. And then that'll be the last time.
Starting point is 00:42:36 Like she says, she literally says bye. And I do appreciate that because it's like, okay, we're stopping this conversation and I got to move on. She's the only person I know that does that. Yet, but the conversation's stopping because the text stopped. How do you feel? about texting people as if you never left off, right? Like, so you don't say good night, you don't say good morning, you just start over. Wait, repeat that? Like, I'll text you tomorrow morning. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:03 And be like, did you eat breakfast? I'm not going to say, hey, good morning, Lindsay, did you eat breakfast today? Like, I'll just be like, did you eat? Yeah, I think that's fine. Yeah, but some people say, like, good morning. Well, it depends on who it's to. Like, what's the relationship like, right? Like with you, okay, I can think of a text that I sent you a couple of weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:43:25 And it was literally the prosthetic dick scene from the hangover. And I said, good morning. I don't remember that. Are you sure you sent that to me? 1,000% I sent it to you. I don't recall. It was weeks ago. And it was the one of a fucking.
Starting point is 00:43:49 on me. That's it. That was last week. Yeah. And I said, good morning. I cannot. Yeah, but that's like funny. But I probably wouldn't normally just send you a good morning text.
Starting point is 00:44:10 I, like, let's say if we were going to record or we were like meeting somewhere, I might send a text, hey, running five late. Yeah. Hey, sometimes hey. Like what the fuck do you mean? Good morning. It's never a good morning. I don't want to wake up till 12.
Starting point is 00:44:26 I want to wake up in the good afternoon. Okay. You're going to love the next one. What? Reply all email etiquette. No, I'm, if you're blowing up my inbox, my inbox. My inbox. My inbox.
Starting point is 00:44:42 I'm blowing up everybody's inbox. You know what I loved? I loved the email chain that I received last night. Oh, I made. sure that I replied, I forwarded all and then also added people that I wanted added. I love it. Because if my day is going to be ruined, everybody's inbox is going to be ruined. Everybody's inbox is about to be ruined. Same. I am replying all. I'm getting everybody involved on the emails. I want everybody to see this. I want to have visibility. Nobody's going to call me out. And this, we're not dropping hints. We're not
Starting point is 00:45:14 breadcrumbing. Like this is just a like business. I'm CCing everybody. We're replying all. I'm C-Cing and B-C-C-ing. Can we talk about that? If you get B-C-Ced on an email, doesn't it tell the C-C'd people that there is a blind recipient? No, not that I'm aware of. The whole point of it being blind is blind? Email Ike and B-C-C-me.
Starting point is 00:45:40 Okay. Because I think it says one, I think it says one non-disclosed recipient or something. Did you B-C-C? Oh yeah, no, I got it. Two Isaac and one more. Can I see yours? Wait, that's interesting. Two Isaac and one more.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Yeah, so I want to see what it says for his. Okay, for his, oh, you're right. It just says, yeah, it doesn't show that I'm on here at all. That's the whole point of it being blind copied. But I always thought it said and one undisclosed recipient. I thought it just said that. Like, I thought it notified the person that somebody else was on there, but you're not seeing who.
Starting point is 00:46:28 But see, I'm no longer blind copying anybody because what transpired yesterday and the email that I sent out, I'm going to make sure that everybody knows that these other people were C-Ced. Like, I'm not trying to be sneaky about it. No, I don't want to be sneaky about anything. Okay. Who pays when a group splits the bill on evenly? Who pays when a group splits the bill unevenly?
Starting point is 00:46:55 I'm not a fan of splitting the bill. Like, why don't you do one and I do one? Yeah. So if you and I are going to go to, we talked about going to a falcons game. Yeah. I got the tickets this time. Next time we might go to a basketball game.
Starting point is 00:47:12 Then you got it that time. Or I'm a big fan of, hey, I bought the tickets. You get the parking. you get the parking and the food. Yeah. Or like you buy Falcons tickets and we've got our kids. It's like, okay, I've got the food, the parking and the merch. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:32 You know what I mean? Yeah. Also though, I do keep in mind that because I come pretty squad deep, it's just not going to ever compare. So like sometimes it's like, don't worry about it. I got it because adding two people versus you taking on five of us. Do you know what I'm saying? So like that doesn't ever. But do you think that people think the same way that we think?
Starting point is 00:47:53 No. Because, okay, let's say that we were going to, let's use the Falcons game for an example. And I have me and Jackson. So that's two of us. And you've purchased tickets. So then I'm going to take on two of your kids for their food, their merch, and our parking. Because it's like even if we're trying to be even. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:48:19 You see what I'm saying? Right. So, but if I had food. four of my kids, you're not going to take on all four. No, I mean, I would. But I'm saying like, do you think that people think logically where it's like, okay, well, I'm coming with two, so she paid for X, Y, and D. So I'm at least going to pay for an additional two. No. And in fact, I've seen a lot of discourse online about even people who go out in a group will say there's a group of four, just split the check four ways. There are people who
Starting point is 00:48:45 one or two of them say, I got water. I'm not paying more to split. split it evenly because I got water. You know what I mean? And I do understand that some of this is like your income standpoint, right? Like you can't expect everybody to be able to afford what you can afford. But it's also like use your discernment, right? Like if I am going out to dinner with somebody and I hope that this doesn't come off rude, that I already know I don't need to ask. I don't need to. I'm just going to cover it. I'm not going to make it a thing. I don't want you to be uncomfortable. I don't want to have this. Like, I'll just cover it. I know, but, and I feel like I've seen this with you too. A lot of times people will take advantage of knowing that you will do that.
Starting point is 00:49:33 And then they never say, hey, I'll cover it this time. Yes, that is true. And like, I don't, I don't like that part of it. That I will agree with that. I have stopped doing that. Actually, I have probably stopped doing that pretty recently. And it's happened to me before. where like somebody's taken advantage of me and they know I'm going to pay so they'll come and get the most expensive thing on the menu. And it's like I'm sitting here eating chicken wings and you've ordered a steak with three sides. Yeah. Like I don't like stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:50:08 Yeah. I, Sterling and I always go, we fight. We go toe to toe on who's like because we're, I would say we're in the same financial. I mean, her family is way more than me, but her and I specifically. And so we just have come to the conclusion at this point that it's like, we know not to, like, if you come to Delaware, I got it. If I come to Dallas, I know you.
Starting point is 00:50:32 Like, it's just an even thing. Even if it's not even to the dollar. You know what I mean? Yep. Okay. Walking side by side versus single file on a sidewalk. I don't want to walk single file, but it's probably the safest. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:50:49 Like why I'm not at school. I don't walk on sidewalks. Like why am I? What? I think the only time I walk on a sidewalk usually is like during the school year when I go because I park in the parking lot across the street and then walk to get my kids. No. Okay. Let's say for example, we are walking into the Falcons game and we're trekking through downtown Atlanta and we're on the sidewalk.
Starting point is 00:51:15 Are we walking side by side or are you ahead? and I'm behind? If it's just me and you, we're walking side by side. And I'm bigger, so I'd put you on the inside. Oh, that's it. Like, I would sustain a truck hitting me more than you would. So I would stand on the outside. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:51:33 That's kind of morbid, but yeah. Do you feel like if you were in a relationship and you're walking on a sidewalk, that the man should stand on the outside? I will literally move me to the inside. And see, I absolutely love that. I will probably be like that's a contender for marriage. He literally will move me. Actually, when we were walking, I did have to walk on a sidewalk in Minneapolis too.
Starting point is 00:52:01 Nobody really did that for me before. Like I knew it was a thing, I guess, but nobody really did it. We were walking and I see a couple and I looked at him and I go, he's letting her walk on the outside. Yeah, I hate that. What are you doing? It makes me feel like they have no coooth. I would agree. You know?
Starting point is 00:52:19 it's like who raised you okay so we're going to move on from this um i feel like this has been a complete debacle but uh would love for you guys to go into the facebook group and list your rules in the facebook group um and for what like the unwritten ones that we've just been talking about oh is that unwritten rules oh that's a good podcast name unwritten rules the unwritten rules with lindsay and or like a segment. That could be a segment on our new elevated format. Kiel, that's what we've been doing for the past fucking hour. We have been talking about unwritten rules.
Starting point is 00:52:58 Where are you? Is that the name of the segment? Yes. Oh. Did you think you just came up with it? Yeah. She thought it was her idea. Single fucking original idea in my whole life.
Starting point is 00:53:11 Oh, my God. Okay. So anybody who's listening to this, please go into the Facebook group or on our socials and give your thoughts on these. And also you can write in and let us know some unwritten rules that you guys would like our opinions on. Let's talk about GLP ones because obviously they've become known for the results, but also they have sky high price tags that make it really hard to have access to these types of medications. And that reputation alone can make treatment feel out of reach. But I'm here with a solution. Roe is changing all of this by helping eligible
Starting point is 00:53:47 patients access FDA-approved GLP 1 options at more affordable prices, whether it's through insurance or cash pay options, which is really nice. I know so many people write in saying that they're on GLP-1s. I have friends on GLP 1 and I know that getting started on them can be a little bit difficult sometimes, but if you check with Roe, maybe this is a better option for you. Usually, if people are interested in a GLP1 with their insurance doesn't cover it, that's it. But that doesn't have to be true because Roe helps eligible patients explore FDA-approved cash pay options that can make GL1s way more affordable with coverage. And Roe wants to help you lose weight. Okay. So that's why they have some of the lowest cost GLP1 options out there, whether it's insurance or cash that you're paying with.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Rowe also has a free insurance checker that makes it easy to see if you're covered for GLP1 injections. Just submit your insurance card and Rowe handles the rest. There's no paperwork, no waiting on hold. Go to row.combo's to see if you qualify. That's RO.co slash coffee combos to get started on ROW. For side effects of GLP1 medications, including boxed warning, go to row.co slash safety. And now we're moving on to mom moment. Okay. You need to share a parenting story from this week. And it doesn't have to be super deep, just like whatever you're comfortable with.
Starting point is 00:55:05 Okay. I had a mom moment that I have not had in a very long time. And it almost sent me into a full-blown. spiral. Are you about to cry? No. I'm still pissed off. Oh, okay. It sounded like you were going to cry. Okay. So obviously when you're co-parenting, you don't know absolutely everything that's going on somewhere else. We're always right. We always know what's going on. We're always right. And yes, we know everything. So Jackson comes home and I go to plug his phone up at night. He's tucked in bed. And I see that the entire screen,
Starting point is 00:55:44 on the front of the phone is just shattered. It's spiedered. It's a problem. Okay. So I go into his room and I say, hey, buddy, when did this shatter on your phone happen? And he's like, oh, well, it was when I was with dad at the lake. And I said, well, was anybody going to, like, inform me of this? Because I pay for the phone.
Starting point is 00:56:06 I pay for the service. I pay for the insurance. And he was like, no, because we thought we were going to be in trouble. And I'm like, I have Apple care on that phone. It can just be replaced, right? Not a big deal, but we need to be honest and up front. So I'm not just randomly finding out. Well, you could have made an appointment too.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Correct. Like it could have already been scheduled before he came home. Yes. So I make the appointment for Apple. We go and Apple tells us our appointment was at 105. And they tell us that the phone will not be ready until 530. And I said, okay, so this is actually fucked up my whole day. We go shopping, come back, and they said that they had a couple more questions about the phone.
Starting point is 00:56:57 So they didn't even start it? They hadn't even started it. They said, is there a potential that there's any water damage to said phone? Mind you, Will has not said anything to me about the phone crack has not said anything to me about water damage, nothing. Jackson tells the person honestly, oh yeah, it's water damage because when I went to plug it in, it said liquid detected.
Starting point is 00:57:21 And I'm like, okay, so we actually need a whole new phone. Kiel, I lost, I mentally, I lost it. I'm like, not only is this, and this was like days before I was supposed to travel to go to Charleston, I had shit that I had to do.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Like I had meetings. I can't just be an Apple for five hours. Yeah. And if I would have known them, I could have just filed it on the insurance that I have through the phone carrier and just got a refurbished phone, right? Yeah. So now everybody's wasted my time. So my question to you then is, and this is for all co-parenting, not just this specifically.
Starting point is 00:57:58 Do you feel like obviously they should have told you, but do you feel like Will should have also replaced the phone? Because like I kind of go back and, like I had a similar situation years ago. And then it wasn't necessarily a matter of like, oh, it was on your time or whatever. It was just like, well, Hobby had offered to buy Lincoln a used phone off of, I think it was like marketplace or something. Because I had bought the previous phone that was destroyed or lost or whatever it was. I can't remember. And so Hobby offered, and it was like a used one. It wasn't a brand new one, which was fine.
Starting point is 00:58:35 It functioned. Like, could that have been a better solution maybe? because at that point you could have gotten one off marketplace and then or will could have I have to defend Will on this one because he doesn't want him to have a phone period okay so I think his perspective would be you're the one that wants him to have a phone so if something happens to the phone because you want him to have it then you deal with it okay that's fair now in other circumstances where both parents are okay with the child having the phone like he just bending for Jackson having a phone because he knows I want him to have one. Okay.
Starting point is 00:59:15 In another circumstance, I would probably say, yeah, it was broken on your time. You pay for it, but I would be interested what our listeners would have to say about that. Same. I mean, because I pay for my, and again, this is not a knock. Please do not twist my words. I pay for both of Elliott and Lincoln's phones and their services. So, Hobby bought that one. I mean, Lincoln's had a new one since then, but I pay for all of that. So, but I, I, don't necessarily believe that if it broke on their time, they have to buy it. Like, I don't care. I'll just, it doesn't matter to me. I'm not going to fight over a phone. Like, I'm never, I'm not fighting over the phone. I'll just get a new one. But Hobby at that time did offer to get one.
Starting point is 00:59:54 So in this moment, Jackson's now looking at the iPads at Apple. And I said, don't even think about it. Like, don't even look at it. And I said, where's your iPad? Broken. I said, where did it get broken? And he goes, oh, it's it, dads. I said, okay, so now we have officially broken an iPad and a new iPhone. I mean, we just got our phones probably four months ago. And so now all these devices. So, of course, I go into a full-blown spiral and I'm like, you're not getting your phone back.
Starting point is 01:00:31 You're not getting a new iPad. You're not. I gave him a phone back. I do think though at his, that's so tricky because his age, I do think that they need fun, like need is a strong word, but I do think that they are nice for 12, 13, 14 year olds to have at this point. But then it went into like this whole parenting conversation of like you don't understand the value of money. You don't respect your things. You don't think before you do.
Starting point is 01:01:06 full blown hour conversation of you need to take care of your stuff. You need to respect the fact that I work so that I can provide this for you. I just think that most kids today think what they have is the norm. Right? And it and it is for them. It is it is for them but let's also create some self-awareness. I would agree. I would agree with you.
Starting point is 01:01:35 Actually, I read something online the other day, and I might have said it yesterday when we recorded. I can't remember, but not just the phones, right? Like we're paying for phones that are one and $200 a month where we were growing up. It was like 50 bucks a month, right? Yep. Kids also can't go do things outside because the cost of doing things outside is so astronomical that teenagers and young kids can't afford it.
Starting point is 01:02:02 So, like, they don't understand the value of their device. and all the things, and then they also can't afford to go do all the things outside. That's not related to technology. It's like a lose-lose. I mean, I think about when we were growing up, we could go to the skating rink or the bowling alley. For $10. And it was so cheap. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:22 Like I think I could go to the skating rink and get a slice of pizza there all for $10. Yeah. And it was like all night skate or even just two to three hours. Yeah. A movie ticket by me. now is over $10 just for the movie ticket alone. Plus it's 45 minutes away, plus the snacks, whether you go outside or not. The kids today can't go outside. We don't want them on their devices, but we pay for said devices. We want them to go do stuff, but they can't afford it. Nobody can
Starting point is 01:02:52 afford it. It's a conundrum. It is. What's your parenting moment from the week? So, hold on. I'm pulling up some pictures because I spent the day with Elliot before I left. He got back from Disney on Saturday and I left on Sunday. So I got to spend some time with him before I left. And they went to Disney on my week, which is fine. But I just didn't get to see him. So he's like, I'm going to come home or whatever. Oh. So we put pork chop on his like harness or whatever and we walk him like a dog outside of the pasture because the pasture that he's on is with the goats and the chickens. So we want him to get like new grass. Most of his diet is grass right now. And then also to like socialize him. We don't think that he was, I can't remember.
Starting point is 01:03:35 what the previous owner told us because she drove him to us. I want to say he wasn't really around other farm animals. So I don't think that he has like a whole lot of socialization. So Popup puts him on a lead and then the boys will like walk him around the other parts of the farm and like the other yards. And you guys have heard me talk about this before. But Elliot really doesn't, he doesn't really like little kids. He just thinks they're like sticky and gross and like they usually have boogers and like,
Starting point is 01:04:03 I'm not like my kids don't typically have boogers or whatever so we go outside to go see pop up walking pork chop and I told you the kids love the farm animals Elliot bends down to valley and he's she's like come here in a valley and he like picks her up and he's like um cow or no he did it and he's teaching her sign language for the farm animals and it was like he picked her up and was showing her cat and showing her, oh, cow. He was showing her cow and then showing her goats and chicken. And so, like, it was just cute because he doesn't, he doesn't normally like to do that.
Starting point is 01:04:44 But I think because he had been gone and she's so happy. That's so sweet. So I just thought that was really sweet. That's really cute. Yeah. That's so sweet. Especially because, like, Elliot's getting older. Yours was a happy moment.
Starting point is 01:04:56 Mine was. But they're not always happy. A crash out. Next time yours is going to be so happy and I'm going to be crying. Okay. I do want to ask you about. Elliot short film. I saw it posted on TikTok and then I also obviously follow him on Instagram.
Starting point is 01:05:12 Like how did all of that come up and then also Lux's getting involved and then I got concerned because I was like, is Lux going to have nightmares from this? So Elliot loves like the film and creative world. Yeah. So I think they were doing a short film like a spontaneous fun. Like, you know how when we were kids and we would have, well, I don't know if you had sleepovers, but you'd go to your friend's house and you'd make up a dance and you'd maybe film it or like maybe somebody's parents filmed it or something.
Starting point is 01:05:42 Yeah. So it was kind of like that. He went to the beach with his friend and they spent the weekend there at their beach house. And they just did like imprompt to a short film, like on their phones, I think. And they, and Elliot edited it. And I was so impressed. I was like, oh my God. That's so good.
Starting point is 01:06:00 I was so impressed because I didn't know that he was like that invested in it. And I thought, like, they're the theater kids at school. Like, it was really, it was cool. And so he's like, well, this was really successful. I really like doing this. It took, you know, a couple hours. They had fun doing it. And it was like, just impromptu.
Starting point is 01:06:16 So he wanted to do another one. Lux wants to be an actor. He wants to be an entertainer. He wants to be a comedian. He wants to do all the things that I believe him. I do. But I had told him because he asked me, when was he going to be in a movie? And I said, you have to go to auditions first, right?
Starting point is 01:06:29 I'm like, you have to go audition. You have to go in front of people that you don't know. And you have to. act is out. Yeah. And the thing about Lux is that he's so comfortable doing it around us, but he will get a little bit shy in front of people he doesn't know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:43 And so I try to explain that to him. And he's like, well, if I'm going to be in the movie, I'll do it. And I'm like, okay. So Elliot said he wanted to do a short film at a local park by us, and he wanted Lux to be the kid that gets kidnapped or whatever. I know. And I said he's going to be traumatized. Lux loved it.
Starting point is 01:07:01 Lux freaking loved it. He thought it was the great. greatest thing ever. And so Elliot asked me, could he do like a killer productions like branch, a leg of killer network and killer entertainment? And I was like, yeah, of course. Like, it's the acronym for our name. Like that's the whole point is for us to build like legs of this company to like pass down to each of you or whatever. And so he, he created the killer productions account and he filmed all of it. I gave him the cameras to use and they went to the part. I mean, he had a cooler for breaks with water and snacks and they had like their little script that they went off of like they did
Starting point is 01:07:37 the whole thing i mean it took all he's actually filming the rest of it today that's so cool yeah and lux was so excited he was so freaking excited did you all have to drop them off at the park we took them to the park and then imagine like being a mom and dropping your teenage son off to produce a short film and then your small child off knowing that he's in said short film mom and getting kidnapped. I saw, like, Elliot shared everything with me all the way up until that point. So I was, I was, like, okay with it. And also, like, the other friends that Elliott filmed with, I also, like, they've come to the
Starting point is 01:08:15 house. I know one of their moms. So it was like, I felt like they were in good hands. And also, Ike was on set for some of it. I had to go. I was, I had to work or something. I couldn't remember, but I can't remember. But, yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:28 I was so scared for logs. I was like, oh, my God. FaceTime Elliott this morning. to tell him good luck for the rest of his film today. He was like, Mom, I'm not answering. I just opened my eyes. He's like, he needs a quiet appointment. Yeah, needs a moment.
Starting point is 01:08:40 Okay, small town gossip. I just want to remind you guys that you can send us all the small town drama, HOA sagas, something going on at your local restaurant, any type of local chaos, family lore, info at coffeeconvospodcast.com. We will, of course, keep it anonymous. The story this week is that. The gossip is that the bakery closed down because of drugs. The truth is the husband, a baker, was caught by the wife who ran it in the daytime having sex with a male employee.
Starting point is 01:09:13 Why is this giving Alec Mirdall? Wait. Was it two men? Yeah. The owner was the man? The husband. The truth is the husband, a baker, was caught by the wife who ran it in the daytime having sex with a male. employee. At least it wasn't a woman.
Starting point is 01:09:34 She, you know what? I've always kind of said that. It's like if I'm going to get cheated on, will you just do it with a man because I can't compete with dick? No, I know it wasn't me. I know that I'm going to say 99.9% of people are not choosing to be there. I think they were born that way, right? So, but born that way sounds like it's not normal and it completely is. You guys get what I'm saying. So like you didn't want to acknowledge, like you're just now finally coming to terms with it, willing to explore it, like accepting yourself as get, like it had nothing to do with me. Do you know what I'm saying? I'm not saying it didn't hurt because I didn't, because I invested the time.
Starting point is 01:10:20 But I am so, we all know I'm insecure and I would hate for a man to leave me for a woman instead of another. If it was another man, I would be like, oh, I could support this. If it was a man, I wouldn't care. There is, and I showed, like, there is a man on TikTok who has a baby with a woman. And he, I found him first. Like, I'm scrolling. And he's full blown in glam, wears heels, skirts, the whole nine yards. And his baby mom fully accepts him, was completely like, okay, all the things.
Starting point is 01:10:51 And he says, that's my best friend. Like, I don't care what anyone has to say because my baby mama supported me when I came out. I love that so much. That's how I would be because I feel like I would do that too. If I got, if I was in a relationship with someone and then they cheated on me, he cheated on me with a man. I would be so supportive and be like, you know, while I do kind of feel like what you were doing with me was a waste of my time, I'm glad that you arrived here. Yes. Like I would be so much more supportive that supportive of them.
Starting point is 01:11:24 Like that would trump my like any pain that I. And I'm just speaking from like. my own personal experience. I was with someone who came out. And were you supportive? Yeah. He apologized to me for certain things and aggressions and, you know, things like that. And it was years after that he, like, apologized and stuff.
Starting point is 01:11:50 But, I mean, now I, like, you were facing, not to call them demons because I don't think it's a sin to be gay. but like you were facing challenges in your own like adversity in your own mind and you didn't know how to handle it and like unfortunately I was the reciprocant of that but like also I empathize with that. So like I would if my baker husband like do I get half the bakery though like you know what I mean? Well I'm not done. It says she dropped by unexpectedly in the wee hours. Yikes. So she sees this. Her husband is the baker. and he was having sex with male employee and the wife drops by it unexpectedly in the wee hours.
Starting point is 01:12:37 I just want to know how long they had been baking and fucking. Right. You know? Yeah. Like that that is like, okay, well, like, because now. Like were they just excited about a batch of cupcakes? And then it just like happened off the off a whim. Like, or was this going on like a long term affair?
Starting point is 01:12:55 The long term affair would freak me out only because I would need to get to. tested and it's even if it was with a woman I would need to get tested I wouldn't like I don't know if that part like are you using protection like that those types of things would freak me out but like I'm picturing it now right like if this was a movie I'm like playing it in my head and I walk in and I'm getting out of the car and I walk in and my man's like fucking the other baker and I would have been like like I'm like envision like just hold on just sit with me so I'm picturing it and they're like on they're like in the island like There's flour everywhere.
Starting point is 01:13:30 And I would walk in and I would say, oh, why didn't you tell me? Like, that's how I picture it going for me. I would be like, oh, okay, things are starting to make sense. See, I think that would be more what I would do. Like, this all makes sense. Did you wrap it up? But I'm just concerned why we're fucking at a bakery when consumers are going to consume. Lindsay, I hate to break this to you.
Starting point is 01:14:00 And I'm going to be so fucking for real with you right now. The teachers are fucking in the classrooms. The bakers are fucking in the bakery. The janitors are fucking in the elevators. Okay. The students are fucking in the bathrooms. It's happening. I know of a threesome that went on in a school classroom.
Starting point is 01:14:21 With teachers? Correct. Three teachers. is fucked? Correct. Oh, wow. See, like, why don't we, like, have better plans? I just, because they're all in fucking relationships and they have to get it where they can. And it's unfortunate. Like, impromptu. Like, let's just bang it out. Okay. Do we feel like this was a long-term affair? Or do we think that it was just like this one, like, they got excited about a recipe and they were like, yeah, that's it. I think the recipe definitely topped it off.
Starting point is 01:14:56 They're like, ooh, we definitely got this good batch of cupcakes. And we're like, now we're horny because we did this. But I think that at the point that you're fucking in the bakery in the wee hours and there's flour, I'm like setting the scene in my head, you've been doing this. You don't just fuck randomly for the first time. At a bakery. Right? Like the same way, like you don't. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:20 Would you be angrier if somebody had a long term affair? on you or if it was like a one one and done a long term affair long term affair for me too because I feel like at that point it's emotional and I'm not if there was any possibility of me getting over it I'm not the one time situations I feel like and again don't twist my words we've talked about cheating and affairs and stuff like that I think when you're talking about a 10 20 30 year marriage and it's not always going to be black and white so if they have they go on a a cruise, a,
Starting point is 01:15:55 that was the, they go on a cruise with their family or they go on, you know, a guy's trip or whatever and they just never speak to that person again.
Starting point is 01:16:02 I'm going to be more understanding for that. It's like, okay, maybe that's what it took to like bring our spark back. Like, no,
Starting point is 01:16:10 the spark's not coming back. We're done either way. I mean, yes. It's how bad am I hurt? What I'm saying is though, like, they both hurt.
Starting point is 01:16:19 It doesn't matter. Like, they both fucking suck. I would say that the affair probably hurt, more, but I could understand why people would take back their partner after only cheating one time. And they've been in this 10-year or 20-year relationship. I can understand that more. I can't understand. Like at that point for this long-term affair to have occurred,
Starting point is 01:16:41 why are you not just going to be with that person? Correct. And now it's emotional. And I know that you guys have memories outside of just a one-time. And they romanticize it. And so it's it becomes this, even if you decide to work it out with the person that you're married to or committed to, you're always going to romanticize that because that you never got past like the honeymoon phase. Correct. And I think that no matter how happy or dysfunctional your relationship is, at some point, even the happiest of relationships will have periods of time where it's challenging, periods of time where you feel like it's like a roommate and you have to work.
Starting point is 01:17:18 You have to both want it and work towards choosing each. other but sometimes when you're having that affair will say six months eight months the newness never wore off so you never got to the hard part part yeah person and so it's always romanticized in your head i agree something that made you smile something that made me smile i've got mine off the tip of my tongue okay so you say yours um the group chat with me you and hunter oh yeah so i met hunter one time and i loved him and i thought he was so funny I love Hunter. I don't know how you met him and I don't know where he came from, but he's so funny.
Starting point is 01:18:00 And I just, what did he say? What did one of y'all say? Hold on. Let me pull it up. Hunter sent me. I don't know if it was on accident. He sent me the same one that you sent me a couple, like last week or whatever. I know.
Starting point is 01:18:18 We extended each other all the time. This is what Hunter sent me in the group chat, y'all. A little tiny pecker. And it was just so funny because I feel like I know him and I've only met him one time. Literally this morning. Wonder how many people are still shitting and scrambling this morning. Not me just eating chicken wings, wondering and plotting how I could ruin multiple people's nights. I mean, I also got chicken wings and then I realized the sauce had gluten and I was fucked.
Starting point is 01:18:44 So I've been 24 hours gluten free until I ate those freaking wings. Okay, tell me something that made you smile. Something that made me smile. So Becky got pulled over last night on her way to Charlotte. Her flight was canceled and she was on her way to Charlotte. I'm not laughing that she got pulled over. That part's not funny. But I came across this video on TikTok and it's day in the life of a doll mom.
Starting point is 01:19:11 Have you heard of doll moms? No. What is that? I'll explain later. But it's a TikTok. I'll post it to the Instagram. so you guys know what I'm talking about. And I sent it to Becky in the group chat with me, Becky and Sterling.
Starting point is 01:19:24 And she goes, not today, Kail. Okay, I don't have got time for this shit. And I laughed so hard. I just sent a video of us laughing, of me laughing. Okay. Well, it looks like Becky's calling. We also have showers that have to be taken. We've got to get to the venue for the Charlotte Show.
