One of my mottos is, things aren't as bad as you think.
They are far worse.
Some people make a career out of looking for places where things could go wrong.
In the digital world, they're the ones warning us about viruses,
training us to ignore Trojan horses,
and anticipating the next terrifying assault on a mainframe.
The more you know, the more scared you get.
They work in security, and as scary as their stories may be, nobody can afford to ignore them.
Online life has made security everybody's business. So on February 22nd, we're launching
season nine of Command Line Heroes, and it's all about the security crises that rock our world.
The malware, the malicious hackers, the ransomers, and the plain old digital crooks
who want to reach out across Wi-Fi signals and fiber optic cables to do us harm. But it's also
about the heroes, security teams, and ordinary folks who rise to the challenge every day to protect us all.
This season, we're bringing you eight new episodes, each one introducing a different
digital monster that we all have to face. Some of these monsters are cloaked in mystery.
Nobody really knows the real reason behind it.
Some of these monsters toy with our most basic human emotions.
So it fools you into downloading it by seeming like something useful,
and then it turns out to be malicious.
And all of these monsters change the digital landscape when they arrived,
forcing us to change the way we connect, the way we work, the way we live online.
It was sort of a wake-up call.
Along the way, you're going to meet extraordinary people,
true heroes, who rose to the challenge
and reimagined the way our technologies could keep us safe.
He was basically inventing the way people investigate intrusions.
The heroes you're going to learn about
are the ones in charge of raising the alarm,
alerting people to brand new dangers. I always only wanted one thing, to defend people's security
and privacy in this new world. They weren't always embraced at the time, and yet were still
benefiting from their work. Over the past eight seasons,
Command Line Heroes has explored hardware and operating systems,
programming languages, and cloud computing.
Along the way, we've dipped into some truly difficult subjects.
But the stakes have never been this high.
And the bad guys have never been this scary.
Nowadays, the picture is very different.
It's mostly nation states and sophisticated criminals launching these attacks.
It's all coming to a head in Season 9 of Command Line Heroes,
an original podcast from Red Hat.
You'll meet the monsters and heroes who do battle across our digital world. I'm Saranya
Tbarek, and I can't wait to share these stories with you. Listen in your podcast app or at
commandlineheroes.com. And in the meantime, keep on coding.
