Summer Spouses with Conan O'Brien, Sonam of Sessian, and Matt Gourley, and Liza Powell O'Brien, Tack Baroian, and Amanda Lund. Okay, welcome to the sixth and sadly final episode of Summer Spouses. We're all getting divorced. But we're marrying each other's spouses. Yes, exactly. This was just a long audio key party. is basically what it turned into. He's on the mixer.

There will be winners and there will be losers. Everyone's immediately sizing up like, oh, yeah, this could go well or horribly. And I know where I fit in that equation. This has been fantastic. I heard this idea and Matt, I want to give you credit. You had this concept and I thought, wait a minute, that both frightens me. and intrigues me. And I have to say I've been blown away, a little frightened for my, for my job, because Liza, Amanda Tack, you guys killed it today. Really great. It was really nice.

And I have to say that because Liza is my ride home. And after that, nothing. After that, nothing. So here we are. We've just had this incredibly intense experience. And you'd think we'd tape these all in one day. But no, that's not how we work. For authenticity, we've been slaving over this for as many weeks as it takes to air six episodes, which by my count is six weeks. And we've not changed our clothes for six years. We haven't changed our clothes. No. Community. Yeah, I remember it. I was a real stickler for that. Everyone wore the same clothes. And this has been, you know, it's just an unusual thing to do. We must, so how did everybody feel about it, TAC, how did you feel about this experience? Were you worried going in? Did it work

out the way you'd like it to? Go ahead. Yeah, I was nervous, but you know, as soon as I got in, like, it just, you make people feel comfortable. So immediately, I was just like, all right, it's, it's, it's Cone zone, you know. And your wife was in the room. Oh, and, of course, her. I want to say something, you always call. I was getting to you. Sorry. You always call me Coney and Conezone. Yeah. And it can tell Sona doesn't like it. Yeah. She'll be like, don't call him that. Don't call him that. And I'm like, why can't he call me Coney in Cone Zone? What's wrong with that? I like you guys being friends, but I don't like you being like bros.

Right. I don't want the bro. It's like why I don't want you and Danny to be friends. That's your brother, Danny. Yeah, it's like my two tormented. But your brother, Dan. Yeah, yeah. It's like my two, it's, you know, I just feel like.

It's too much. You want me kept at a distance. I just, yeah. Yes. And for that reason, I want to become your best friend in the whole world time. I want to be by every day. I am game, my friend. Let's do it.

Amanda, you came into this, you are polished, you're a pro. What surprised you? Did this go pretty much the way you thought it would? Oh, yeah. It felt very professional. Yeah, that is surprising. Yeah. That never happens.

And very concise, you know. It didn't feel like there's a lot of fat on the bone. So, and that's a testament to the pro. I love how because your husband edits this podcast, you're thinking about it from an editing point of view. Yes. Oh, he doesn't have. to do much work on these. He can help a little more.

She knows how to turn me on. Liza, I told you a couple of days ago, starting six weeks before that, to maintain my pointless lie, I said there's this concept, what do you think? And you went, okay, you were very chill. What did you think? And how did it compare to? I think it helps that I did this once before when I came on to promote my podcast, which was very kind of everyone to pitch in that way. And so I had sort of gotten the feel of it a little bit, which put me very much to ease to the tax point. Like it's an easy room to be in. You guys make it easy. So, you know, I think I think it pretty much went as I expected. So there were no shocking revelations. Yeah. I mean, there's still some time. Well, that's what we have this show for.

Yeah, exactly. Bring it on. Surprise me. Yeah, it is. For once in your life. Exactly. For once in your life. We're 26 years in.

It's got to like, please, something. It is kind of like these, these three are more chill than the chill chums. They really are. Yes. Who are the chill chums? I guess that answers that question. Yeah, that's true. I'm telling you, Liza does not listen to the podcast.

Apparently not. And also, I don't think. really views any of my work, and I'm going to tell you, I'm being serious here, my family, you know, doesn't gather around and watch the travel shows or old Conan clips. That just doesn't happen. And I think it's for the best. That's probably good. Wouldn't it be weird if, like, Liza was a super fan? Right.

Well, I mean, I've asked him that before. I said, wouldn't you lose some respect for me if I was sick of fan Jake? And he said, no. I would love it. I would love it. I wish that you were my biggest fan on the planet. I wish Liza dressed up as the FedEx Pope. Oh, my God. That's weird on nine different ways. Yeah.

Yeah. I mean, we really aren't, that's not our relationship. That's not our family's relationship to each other. It is almost like I go and work at an insurance company. Right. And when people recognize me on the street or in a restaurant, But there's kind of a, huh, oh, well, anyway, let's get on. Let's have that veal parmesan.

Yeah, exactly. See if you can catch up. So, but this. I have seen some of the travel shows. Thank you. I keep meaning to finish watching the rest before the new one's got involved. You know what? Anthony Bourdain.

Stanley Tucci. She's watched the Tucci ones like nine times. And she can't get enough. Eva Lungoria. Yeah. She's a big Tucci head. She loves it when famous beautiful people bite into something and go, oh my God.

That's really what I'm there for. That doesn't happen on my shows. No, it's for the best. I think it's for the best that you're not a fan or what Louis you've seen. You're not interested in seeing more. But anyone take the lead here because, first of all, it's very hard to direct this because it feels very organic and real and I don't want to direct it. So I don't know if, Sona, if you have something you'd like to say or Matt, you guys

want to, you mean, we were all back there watching the segment from a week ago. Yeah, was it weird? Was it weird for you guys to watch? Sona says yes. Yeah, it was weird. But also, I enjoyed it a lot. What I found interesting about it was how quickly it seemed normal. Like normal and good and viable.

I was sitting in the room. I was seeing Tanisha was there and Sam and Ruthie and we were watching it and I was laughing. And I was like, this is a really, I like this is a really, I like this. show and I'm not realized I'm not in it. Sona's not in it. Matt's on in it and I like it better than our show. I turned to Sona and I said, how are they able to have a legitimate conversation? I know.

You elevated this podcast. I know. We really take it down into the toilet. How come no tyrant has shut it down with some cruel riff? It may have been lighter on the laughs, I will say. You know, like we weren't really trafficking in the comedy so much. Yeah, but not everything has to be funny. Yeah.

What? I mean, it's like God. Heresy. You're going to get me fired. One of those, A? One of those people who think sometimes a short silence between sentences is appropriate. Well, I haven't found that to be true. You're sick.

You're sick. What was your final thought on this process? Yeah. I mean, I like being on a mic. I like being on a video. I like these guys. Wait a minute. You don't care who it's with.

Well, the equipment seems adequate. I like it. The room is a good size. This will work. You guys seem to get the numbers. I love that. I love that. I just haven't been out of the house in a while.

This has been so fun for me. I literally this morning, I was like, well, guess I got to go to the Nordstrom rack, get a new t-shirt to wear. It is a nice shirt. This is a big day for me because, you know, I've been in the baby cave. So. Yeah. And where is she? She's here somewhere.

I don't know. I gave her a $20 bill and she crawled down the street. She's at Great White right now. Ordering mimoses. That's our dad. No, it's, well, what about you? Attacked you. Had a good time.

I did. Yeah. Actually, Sona sprung this on me like two days ago, something like that like going on a podcast I'm like what I said I said would you like to go on the podcast

You know I was just Kind of like All right Here we go Here we go You know And we were flying back from Hawaii.

It was a lot happening. I had a lot of time to think about what I was going to say on the airplane. So it was all right. Did you get to say the things that you thought you'd get to say? Yeah, sure. It just depends on the questions, you know. But yeah, I did all right. Don't you think I did it right?

Great, what are you talking about? You killed it. I'm not used to this at all. This is like not my thing. Did either of the two of you? Because I wasn't nervous. And then the moment Amanda sat in the chair, I went, oh, this could go. All wrong.

Yeah. All wrong. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Do you ever feel nervous when someone hands me a microphone? You should. Especially when they're not supposed to.

Uh-huh. And you took the mic the last time I did the Oscars and just went off for 10 minutes. But you killed it. Spousal rights. Benicio del Toro was howling. That's my nightmare. The, no, it's funny because you told me when we first met, you had just previously spoken at a wedding

for a friend and there was a picture of you speaking and you said that you were terrified and you hate that kind of thing but every time in 26 years that I've seen you get up and speak in front of people you're very poised, you're very naturally so the thing you told me up front

just hasn't borne out to be true. I'm a liar. Yeah, you're a liar. Yeah, and you don't have a come from great wealth I found that out pretty quickly. Those portraits of your family aren't your family. No.

So yeah, you're very, you're, you're, you just come to this very easily. And the same thing I say about Sona, you're, you're yourself. Oh, that's good. A little nicer, but mostly yourself.

She's nicer than me or she's like nicer. Nicer than I usually. Usually. She's very, she loves to tell me what the things like, you know, it's a really good idea to keep that door shut. And I go, I don't know. I mean, it is a good idea to keep the door shut.

I like people from outside to come in. I like to talk to people, so sometimes I leave our front door open for a couple of days. How dare you, Liza? I mean, the amount of times I've said in my head, like, what's the non-bitchy way to ask someone to load their shit into the dishwasher? And I can't come up with a good answer, and so then I end up doing it. I grew up with a butler. His name was Cadbury. Oh, wait, that's Ritchie Rich.

Yeah, no, we're getting there. There's been improvement. It's fine. There's been improvement. You have other strengths. No, but has there not been improvement? Sure. Yep.

Okay. There has. Sure. There has. Or as my mother would say, sure. Sure. She goes sure. No, no what that means.

Listen, this could be a big hit. And if this is a big hit, we're all going places. We could take this on the road. Can you imagine, let's say, that this caught on. And suddenly people were talking about, you know, the, the, the, summer spouses episodes. And then, you know, whoever Syria steps in and says, you guys got to hit

the road. There's big money in this. And it was all of us on a tour bus. How quickly would this go straight to shit? Oh. We're on the same tour bus? Same tour bus. I don't know. Who would get a really bad, like, Coke habit?

That would be Liza. Classic Liza. I would have a giant room on the bus. Liza would have one of those small beds, conts that the roadie sleeps in. And I would keep it neat as a pin.

Neat as a pin, yeah. And when I'm done with a dish, I would open my little door and toss it out into the aisle of the bus and then shut the door. And Liza would come down and, oh, well, scrape, scrape, scrape. He has other string.

We're going to hit the road, gang. I think this is going to be big. Yeah. Only do it in the Partridge family bus. Oh, yeah. I say separate buses. Yeah. Motley crew style, you know.

But like couples or Oh, Molly crew all has No, just me and my own bus. Oh, okay. And then me and the boys in a sedan. No, no, no. The boys each get their own bus, each one.

How would, how, your boy, I feel like your boys would take to the road very well. Yeah, they like traveling. Yeah, they do. They love hotel. I think they would trash hotel rooms, throw TVs out the window.

Yeah, yeah. Trash everything. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they love a good bus. They love a good hotel room, you know. Yeah. They love being on the,

the road. Yeah. Grolley would always be in his bus crafting. Building little liquor-related cabinets. Do you know how to crochet? He does. Do you know how to cross-stitch? Well, cross-ditching is easy.

Yeah, don't insult him. One time I learned to crochet with my grandma, but I don't remember how to. It's so easy. You know how to crochet, right? Do I? I don't know if I never. Why do you say it, though, like, like, I gotcha. Like, clearly, you know.

know how to craft. Like, you have like a craft box. I thought you said I had a craft bod. You got a crafting body. What's a crafting bod? Like a dad bod, but a bod for someone that obviously just does crafting. A guy who sits in a stool in the

shed crafting. That's the body you have. And that is the body I have. His ass is really atrophy. His dominant hand is really strong. Yeah, you're knitting is like incredibly articulated. Clearly you craft. You crocheted for a little while

or you did something for a bit. I did something in the pandemic. We couldn't figure out what it was. I was desperate. It was sad. I was desperate. Did you make something? I made a thing.

Podholder is the, that's the coward's way out. Yeah, it was something. Oh my God. I'm sorry. You just knit until you give up and you go, it's a pot holder. It goes between you. This strip will protect

that same strip on your hand. Yeah, it wasn't anything to talk about on this podcast. How do we get here? I'm sorry, I just assumed Matt, like, crapp. The stuff we made for our parents growing up, I see now, and what a load of shit. It's horrible. And I, you know, but it's that thing where actually, I think the stuff our kids made looks pretty good.

You have parent goggles on. But, yeah, no, our kids made amazing things. I just look at the stuff. And I look at the stuff like my brain. brothers and I made. And I just said, this looks, this is awful. What a bunch of idiots. That's sweet. They saved it all. Well, I found it in the dumpster. Just my dad thought it was, they would take, it was a dumpster from 1967. And they just never came and emptied that one. Because I was in charge of getting it out. Well, this was, I think, I mean,

I think we've, we've really done something here. I think what we've done is we've shown America that although we all have our differences, we can come together as one. That's not at all what we did here. No, we didn't. You really went for the Scottish in the beginning of the series.

You came after my people. Yeah, six weeks ago, I went hard after the Scots. How was that gone for you? That is a well-known trouble about the Scots that they are frugal, yes? I've heard that. Yeah.

Oh, don't you're afraid of getting canceled? I just don't trust my sources. Okay, well, anyway. You don't trust my sources either. No. Which is correct. I will experience the same thing Liza experiences, and then I'll hear her telling the story later on,

and I'm like, good God, how did it become this? But it's amazing, it's very creative. For example, I always close every dishwasher and close every door. I don't know where she came out with that. God bless us all. I was your assistant for a long time. Excuse me? What's that?

I'm saying I was your assistant for a long time. You worked as my assistant for much longer. Okay. But you were my assistant for two years. All I can say is I can back up with Liza's saying, which is you do leaf shit. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Yeah.

I'm sure Picasso was a little messy. Okay. Well, anyway, I just want to say, God bless us. God bless us, everyone. What we did here was heroic over the last six weeks. What are you doing? I'm trying to give this a big ending. I'm trying to land this plane.

And here's the thing about me. I will land it, but then take off and try and land it again. You're like a reverse Sully. Yeah. I'm a reverse Sullenberger. I will get it up out of the Hudson and then I will crash into the Hudson again. But I just want to say that this has been a wonderful experience. I want to thank you all for being here.

And I want to end it one more time. Oh, my God. What have we really done? And what haven't we done? But I think we did learn a lesson. And that lesson was, despite who we might be, we could always be together and someone else. Good night. And I have a good tomorrow.
