Have you ever wondered what it's like to work with a professional career coach and how a career coach can actually help you to plan and grow your career? In this episode, I'll be sharing with you my specific formulas on how to decide
Starting point is 00:00:41 or rather when to decide that you should consider working with a career coach and also share with you another formula I have to help you decide when choosing which career coach is the best for you. So if any of that sounds a bit of an interest for you, make sure that you stay to the rest of this episode where we'll really dive in to give you the full clarity that you need on what is this whole career coaching thing and yeah honestly can a career coach actually help you to plan and grow your career? All right so let's dive in. If you are a corporate professional who is very serious about planning and growing your career, working with a career coach might have been something that you have been thinking about
Starting point is 00:01:20 for a while or considering for some time but still have some nagging questions in mind on how a career coach can actually help you. And I think the common misunderstanding is people only go to a career coach when they are encountering a really, really, really big problem in their career. This is the most common thing I hear from people who are really struggling, they are really unhappy, basically to the negative side of the extremes, before then they decide that, oh my god, I need a career coach. So this is kind of common in terms of like when people go for career coaches and it's completely okay. So let me share with you the three-step formula for you to decide when you should go to a career coach. So number one, it's P. P stands for problems. As I said
Starting point is 00:02:07 earlier, most people do go to career coaches when they have a really big struggle that they don't know how to overcome. They feel stuck. They feel like they have no solutions at all, but just problems, problems, and problems. So understandably so, in this sort of situation where you feel that there is no way out, you feel trapped, you feel like, you know, things are just not going well and you're not getting the answers that you need from your friends, your colleagues, your managers, whoever, then sure. on what's going on. Really that expert opinion, that expert perspective that could really help you to, you know, untangle that nasty thoughts. And that's something that's really, really important
Starting point is 00:02:52 because when you are sucked in the problem, like in the problem itself, you may not really see the big picture. You may not really see the important point. So this is how a career coach
Starting point is 00:03:03 can be a really useful resource or a person that you connect with to help you overcome a struggle or overcome a really even big or small problem along your career journey. The second most common reason why people go to a career coach is when you think you need a career strategy. So a lot of my clients come to me when they want to have a strategy to get new opportunities, when they want to have a strategy to get a promotion, they want to get this, they want to have a strategy to communicate better. It does not necessarily mean that you have a big problem in hand, but it just means that you are ambitious, you are serious, you want to improve, you want to, you know, focus on your professional growth, your
Starting point is 00:03:45 personal growth, but you don't know how. So strategy is one of those really important things that a career coach, a very experienced career coach is able to share with you the roadmap, the framework, the steps on how to actually get there. So if you feel like you are not clear on the strategy and action plan and you want to get it from an expert, then sure, consider working with a career coach who can really give you the clarity that you need to move ahead in your career. So again, it's not necessarily focused on just the problems itself, but this is the very future focus for the second reason. Now, moving on to the third reason most people go for a career coach is when you just need a second opinion.
Starting point is 00:04:27 You just need another perspective. So this is the P. If you feel like you're ever in a situation where you have made a decision, you have come to somewhat of a conclusion, but you're still not really sure if that's really the final conclusion that you want to have.
Starting point is 00:04:43 You just want to bounce it with another one, to think another person, to see if you have missed some points and so forth. Then sure, I think a career coach is a really good person that you can get a revised perspective or a fresh perspective, a new or different perspective to look at your current situation.
Starting point is 00:05:02 So these are the, what I call, I'd say the PSP formula. So you go to a career coach when you have a problem, you need a strategy S and, or you need, you're looking for a separate perspective. So problem, strategy, perspective. It's really important for you to get the information that you need that will help you come up with a better action plan and really take the action in the right direction in your career. All right. So it's really important that it's a win-win relationship. It's a win-win partnership
Starting point is 00:05:36 and collaboration. So you can really make the most out of the career coaching sessions or the career coaching program that you have with the career coach. All right? So with that, I wish you all the best. Keep learning, keep growing. And at the end of the day, only you are responsible
Starting point is 00:05:53 for your own career. All right? All the best. Cheers.
