Starting point is 00:00:00 There you are, pushing your newborn baby in a stroller through the park. The first time out of the house in weeks. You have your Starbucks, venty, because, you know, sleep deprivation. You meet your best friend. She asks you how it's going. You immediately begin to laugh. Then cry. Then laugh cry? That's totally normal, right? She smiles. You hug. There's no one else you'd rather share this with.
Starting point is 00:00:22 You know, three and a half hour sleep is more than enough. Starbucks, it's never just coffee. What's up, everybody. Welcome back to Couple Things with Sean and Andrew. A podcast all about couples. And the things they go through. Today's kind of about couples, but it's so much better. This is more of a family tradition that this couple has established. And we got this idea from our friend Jeremy Bloom, who said that his dad used to sit him and his siblings down every year on their birthday and do this little interview with him to hear about what their dreams were in life, to hear about who their best friends.
Starting point is 00:01:00 was to hear about what their favorite activities were and I loved that idea yeah so we started doing it with Drew when she was two and Jet just turned two yeah so now we've done Drew when she's age two and three we've done Jet when he's two and Drew's about to do her age four one but it's really special and the kids have about a 10 minute attention span but Drew's first son I had to bait her with Oreos and I remember at the end she said mama I'm all done with work. And I was like, all righty.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Yeah. And that's a wrap, guys. So this is Jets' two-year-old interview, and I will remember this forever, and these will always be my favorite interviews we do. I think my favorite thing about this real quick, sorry, is Drew, I think just by nature,
Starting point is 00:01:48 our pediatrician has even talked about that. Girls develop more quickly when it comes to, like, vocabulary, and boys develop more quickly when it comes to, like, physicality. And if you watch Drew's, she's very like articulate she has words she has things to say and jet is just he lives as mallory irvin would say wide open um but he's so like quiet yeah and he's just like yeah i feel like
Starting point is 00:02:17 it does really reflect their personalities yeah drew did hers and her princess dress yep and jet you'll you'll hear it's just like a little more timid he is um in some ways which he is when he's like answering something but when he's just out in the yard by himself he's not timid at all exactly so it's kind of funny to see and we hope that that shines through so thank you for watching uh these will be an annual tradition and i personally am excited about it without further ado jet james east okay jet jet jet what's your name i said what's your name jet james say jet james east That's a microphone.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Can you say microphone? Microphone. Jet, what's my name? Daddy? Daddy. Yeah. Hey, what's your favorite song? The wheels on the bus go.
Starting point is 00:03:28 What are you doing in the microphone? Your phone. Don't eat. Hey, don't eat that. All through the town. Or, hey, what about this song? Old McDonald's hat. Oh, is that a race car? Hey, what do you like to do? Do you like to drive? You like to drive gators and airplanes and go carts and boats?
Starting point is 00:03:57 Oh, hey, do you remember the big boat we went on? Uh-oh. Here. Okay. Jetsha, you remember that big boat we went on? Can you say big boat? Big boat. Yeah, and where do we take the big boat?
Starting point is 00:04:14 You want to do it? Okay. You spin it that way. Okay. Okay. Did we go to Greece on the big boat? Greece. Greece?
Starting point is 00:04:24 Hey, do you know the old McDonald's song? Um. Old McDonald had a farm. What goes next? E.I. E.I.O. And on that farm, he had a horse. E.I.e, I, E.I.O. With a...
Starting point is 00:04:45 Mmm. M. And a nay, nay there. Here, a nay, there, and there, and I, everywhere, nay, nay. Old McDonald had a farm. E.I. what about rain rain go away come again another day good job hey what do i tell you every night before you go to bed we say we say our prayers and i say we say and the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever

Starting point is 00:06:34 slash Yannex. Hey, remember when we go on Neighborhood Watch and we say, Neighborhood Watch Dogs Unite. Ar-Ar-Ar-R-R-R-H. Hey, what do you think about bikes? Do you like bikes? Do you like running? Do you like cars?
Starting point is 00:06:56 Guys. Yeah. Are you right-handed or left-handed? Do you know? I think you're left-handed. Jet-Jet, do you like to swim? Yeah. Oh, and do you have a sister?
Starting point is 00:07:11 What do you call her? Boyd-dad. Do you call her Abba? Abba. Yeah, Abba. All done. You're all done? Okay, buddy.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Can I have a hug? Oh, thank you. Thank you. And a kiss? Wait, give me a kiss. I love you. This is, this, Jet, this is called work. Can you say work? Work. Do you like work? Oh, there's another microphone. Work. Jet, listen buddy, I don't know if you ever watch this. I don't know if you ever care to, but I want to record this and the small off chance that that you're watching this 10, 20 years in the future.
Starting point is 00:07:58 And maybe I'm not around because you never know of life. But I just want to say how much of a joy it's been these first two years with you. And it's been completely different than with raising your sister. But I got to say the amount of joy and playfulness and curiosity and excitement that you've brought into my life. And just these first two years has been awesome. your excitement about trains has gotten me excited about trains and so now every time I hear a train passing by I stop and I look at it instead of just blasting right by it like I used to and I'm back loving hot wheels because of you and I'm back loving bikes and I got to say there are only a handful
Starting point is 00:08:41 of my friends two or three that I can name they give me as riled up and playful and excited as you do And so I am just so excited to continue building our relationship, buddy. I love you. I also have no idea what I'm doing. So we're doing this together. We're figuring out together. This is both of our first times being the son of a father and the father of a son. So I pray for your patience and your understanding and your forgiveness when needed.
Starting point is 00:09:12 But I am actively trying to be the best dad I can for you on these bookshelves. I got a lot of books that are pouring wisdom into me. And I'm fortunate to have a lot of mentors pouring wisdom into me so that I can prepare you the best I can for what this world has to offer. And hopefully by the time we're done, we'll be friends. You'll be a responsible contributing citizen to the world and excited about something in life no matter what it is. And your mom and I have been fortunate enough to have a couple things
Starting point is 00:09:46 that have gotten excited, that have gotten us excited about life, and I just pray that you have one thing that you're excited about. And it doesn't have to be the same thing that we're excited about. But at the rate you're going, I have no concern that you will find at least one thing to be excited about. You truly are a joy when you walk into a room. Your teachers say so. Your classmates show it, and you really are so thoughtful, caring. curious, loving, patient. I love watching you and your sister interact, and I hope that relationship continues to thrive and grow.
Starting point is 00:10:27 But I just want to say I love you. Happy birthday. Planning on recording one of these messages a year, so I won't get too sappy all the time, but I wanted to get sappy at least once a year. So I love you, Jet James, and you're my dude, dog. You're my dude. It's been a really interesting year losing my dad and thinking about the father he was to me as his son.
Starting point is 00:10:54 And it's got me excited. And I felt more responsibility to do fatherhood well and to be an intentional father for you than I ever have. So I hope that shows through. I hope you feel that. I'm not perfect by any means, buddy. But if I can set you up to have fewer flaws or at least different flaws than I do, I'll consider it a job well done I love you
