Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm on this journey with me. Each week when you join me, we are going to chase down our goals. We'll overcome adversity and set you up for a better tomorrow. I'm ready for my close-up. Hi, and welcome back. I'm so glad you're back here with me this week. Okay, so I wanted to talk to you a little bit about things don't always go smoothly. things don't always go the way that you might imagine or think. Certainly not in my life.
Starting point is 00:00:33 Okay. So, and I'm not saying it's good or bad, but what I am saying is you just need to jump on it and tackle it and find a way to make it work. So let me break it down for you. I just did my first ever master class this past weekend, which was me live teaching for six hours and talking for six. hours. Interesting, super interesting, and that I had never thought to do that before, right? I just hadn't thought about it. And through the messages that you get, through the questions people ask you, those are all indicators of potential businesses that you could potentially create. I had people asking me a lot, hey, are you ever going to offer a course on sales? Are you ever going to do something that's live where we can do Q&A with you, role play with you? Are you ever going to do a class live on confidence?
Starting point is 00:01:28 Right? Because I have my pre-recorded program available. I have my books available. I have what you're listening to right now, my podcast each week with you, right? But there isn't anything that I've been bringing to you that's live. And so it was interesting. I had to start, you know, looking around a little bit to see what was out there, you know, what existed.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Would I be offering something unique and different and worthwhile? And I really, you know, I didn't see anything that was like what I was going to be able to offer and hopefully add value to people. So I did it. And here's the thing. And this is how I certainly run my business is done will always be better than perfect. I'm going to go for it. You know, I just, I think for two weeks, maybe I put a couple of posts up about the master class, but I really didn't do a tremendous amount of marketing behind it. And here's why, I believe it's helpful. You know, the smaller group that I have, the more I can impact them, especially if I'm early on in doing an event and a course. So I like the idea of having a smaller group. I think we ended up having 15 people. And what I was able to do by having a smaller group was have everybody fill out in advance, what their goals were for the course. So I could really ensure that they were achieving their goals and getting delivery on what they needed specific to them. I knew their story. You know, I could And I really think it's important to connect with people at that level. And as much as they might be there learning from me, I'm learning from them on what are they struggling with. You know, what pain point do they have that I can help them with? And when you really step into your purpose and passion and helping others, showing up as that best version of yourself and giving to others, good's going to come out of it. It just is lead with your heart. Lead with giving back to others and watch all the good that.
Starting point is 00:03:19 comes out of it. So I'm so proud, you know, was I looking forward to sitting in my condo all weekend long when I live in gorgeous Miami and it's incredible out right now? No, I wasn't. I'm not going to lie, right? So there's, you make sacrifices to get the things accomplished that you want to do in life. And no, not all of it is exciting and wonderful. I was really bummed out. I'm definitely an extrovert. I definitely like, I would rather be speaking at a live event where I'm meeting people in person than doing things virtually. However, in the world we live in now, virtual brings solutions to people on the weekends and without additional costs. And there's so many great solutions and accessibility around virtual that oftentimes people prefer that. I even have certain clients that only book me
Starting point is 00:04:06 for virtual speeches now because they no longer do in-person events. So the world we live in has changed and we've got to change with it. I actually was reminded of that on Friday. My son and I watch the movie Blackberry, which is out right now. Maybe it's Netflix or Amazon Prime. I don't remember which one. However, I want you to know this. It's an incredible movie because it just reminds you so much that don't get complacent, right? Blackberry was reinventing the world initially, and it was incredible what they did,
Starting point is 00:04:38 and they were such disruptors. And then they started seeing the business as the same. And while they were not looking for ways to improve, not looking for ways to change, there was Apple up and coming secretly on the side, completely reimagining the way business could be done and challenging themselves to change. The message for me from that movie is never get comfortable. Always step into uncomfortable. Always step into fear. Always step into growth. Constantly invest in yourself and find ways to access new information to challenge.
Starting point is 00:05:15 yourself to grow, be an eternal learner, right? One of the things I'm so grateful for for you listening to this show and giving me this show is, you know, the opportunity for me to read so many books and access so much information. It's such a gift because it constantly challenges me to see the world differently for me to learn something new and for me to grow, which then I apply back to my business, which then I apply back to you, right? How can I add more value to you? How can I encourage you in a new and different and better way? And add, As I challenged myself to do that, I'm just reminded, never stay the same, never get comfortable. Don't make that mistake, Blackberry Made.
Starting point is 00:05:53 If you haven't watched that movie, go check it out. It's so good. Okay. So this weekend, yes, I was not super excited about being stuck in my condo for the entire weekend because not only did I need to be live for those three hours each day when I'm actually teaching in the master class, but of course, there's prep that goes into anything that I'm going to do. There's hours and hours of prep that goes in. I was redoing slides all night the night before each day.
Starting point is 00:06:19 You know, I'm improving, finding ways to optimize, finding aesthetics I like that I hadn't thought about, you know, challenging myself. How can I bring more value? How can I do this better? Practicing. And then after the first day, you know, I had pages of notes that I was taking while I wrapped up the first day. And so I wanted to improve based upon the feedback that I had gotten, based upon the questions I heard these people asking, I knew I could do a better job for the next day. by tailoring it more, you know, in response to what I had heard. So there's always a way to get better.
Starting point is 00:06:50 And it's never just perfect. And no matter what you see in the outside, so often people see something. And they're like, oh, that person just is nailing it. You know, no, I'm constantly challenging myself to grow, constantly challenging myself to go bigger, constantly challenging myself not to get comfortable and swinging for the fences. And I hope you are too. This is your daily reminder to just go bigger.
Starting point is 00:07:13 done will always be better than perfect. Starting point is 00:10:19 the second day of my masterclass last weekend. The first thing I asked that morning, because I love taking it back to my peeps that are there with me to you, right? I asked, okay, tell me, I want to hear from each one of you, what was your key takeaway or takeaways from yesterday? Right? Like what resonated the most with you? What, you know, what did you learn that impacted you in the biggest way? And what are you most looking forward to today and has your goal change? Because I had asked everybody to share their goals, right? Because you want people to be accountable and set big goals. And then we want to lay that roadmap out for them on how they're going to achieve those goals. Okay, so you're in a group of like-minded people. Everyone's trying to go to the next level. Everyone's pushing themselves. There's a lot of accountability, a lot of momentum. Right. When you're in groups like this, it's super exciting. And as everyone on the team went through what their key takeaways, everybody had something different. And it was so cool. It was a great reminder for me that we are all so different. While we all may be very like-minded and, you know, everyone's coming from things from a great place and big goals and big ambition, we all have different challenges and different strengths and different weaknesses and different hurdles.
Starting point is 00:11:30 And it was just really cool to see that people took value in ways. that I had not anticipated. One person had shared that we discussed on the first day, legacy, and the importance of legacy and how writing a book or giving a TEDx talk can be these legacy moments in life and how important that is to leave behind the things that we've learned and how we can make the world a better place by having these legacy pieces that we create.
Starting point is 00:11:59 And it was just so cool to hear this person share that inspired her with writing a book. and really helped her to go for more and believe that her message is worthwhile to lead behind. And it was a really impactful moment for me that made me so excited. Then other people were just talking about from tactical standpoint, some of the social media direction that we had given in regards to LinkedIn specifically and how they could leverage these tactics to grow their personal brand. It's so wild to see that, you know, everyone can,
Starting point is 00:12:35 be in the same meeting at the same time and take completely different things and be moved by and activated by completely different things because of our own unique talents, our own unique challenges. And it's just, it's so cool to see. Okay. So one person, their biggest takeaway was that they know they needed to ultimately start thinking bigger and they were challenging themselves. And they rolled out new goals for themselves. Very tactical, right? Very specific. Another person, their biggest takeaway was imposter syndrome and taking people off the pedestals and realizing the role they had played in that in their life. And that was a really powerful moment. Another person talked about the importance of the AI tools that I shared on the master class.
Starting point is 00:13:19 And we reviewed a number of different AI tools. And listen, if you are not jumping into AI, please do not sleep on this. Come on, your girl is letting you know. AI is where it's at. Access these tools. Chat GPT is just one of so many out there that will make your life easier, help you to be more creative, brainstorm ideas, get a jump off point on something you're stuck with, right? You don't need to suffer alone when you've got AI on your computer. It can help you leapfrog over mediocrity and old ways of thinking and start challenging yourself to grow and become more creative. So we've gotten to a lot of the amazing tools that
Starting point is 00:13:58 I've been using that have been super helpful for me, and I knew would be helpful for the team, too. So the second day was cool because the second day of the master class, I dedicated the entire day to sales. The first day had been dedicated to confidence, half of the class and the other half to personal branding. But the second day was all sales. And my background, my expertise in businesses and sales and sales leadership. So that's my baby. That's where like I'm let's go. Giddy up.
Starting point is 00:14:26 I only started talking about confidence. years ago when I got fired. So it was, I have 25 years of experience to package into a three-hour window. Let's just put it this way. I did not get through half of the content that I had created. It was ridiculous. And it's interesting because you try to plan out, right? Like when I'm doing a presentation, I look at how many minutes I might spend on a slide, but you never know how many questions people are going to have. And so that's that variable out there. You've got to be able to wing it in many ways, right? You've got to be able to say, I can't control all this, because I do believe in allowing people to ask questions. I want to answer their questions. I want to make sure that people
Starting point is 00:15:09 have an understanding of concepts before we move on and can apply it to their business and their life so that they can have tactical steps to take to improve their revenue or, you know, their bottom line. And I know that the first couple of times that I do a master class or, you know, a speech, or a mastermind. Those are going to be learning moments where you're beginning to understand, oh, wait, they're struggling with this. I hadn't anticipated that because I see it differently. It's interesting because my mastermind were going through something similar right now. I've been teaching on TEDx talks and helping the team to land their own TEDx talks. And I never anticipated how many people would struggle with coming up with their big idea.
Starting point is 00:15:52 However, about half the team did. Right. So I, hadn't anticipated that. So even as a teacher or a leader, you're constantly being challenged to learn and evolve based upon the challenges the people you're working with me be having. Right. So everything's fluid. It's not just set it and done. You've got to grow with the team. You've got to grow with your peeps and ensure that you're supporting them in the ways that they need. Quince.com slash confidence. Today is just a wild day for me. I'm coming out of the masterclass. I'm, you know, I've got pages of notes that I'm trying to clean up and save so that for my next master class, I can do an even better job. And, you know, there's so many things that I forgot to do, for example, when the
Starting point is 00:18:23 master class sold out. I didn't have the web page optimized to create a wait list for the next one. Okay, that's obvious. I should have done that. Didn't do it. Drop the ball. Okay, we had tons of people at the website this weekend and they were still applying to a class that was sold out. So, you know, here's a thing. Done will always be better than perfect. I take notes and I set myself up for better success the next time around. And I hope that's what you can learn too is it doesn't have to be perfect. Nobody's perfect out there. In fact, perfect is the enemy of great, right? Like, you've got to grow through it and go through it to get to that next level. So that's what I'm doing right now. I'm sitting with all my feedback. And while all this was happening, I got a call
Starting point is 00:19:04 and found out John Maxwell could be on my show. And immediately, I had to put a pin in everything else and switch gears and look back to the book that John gave to me before it even came out, but it's out now, The 16 Undeniable Laws of Communication, an incredible book with such a powerful message all around the art of communicating and the laws that everyone needs to master in order to be a masterful communicator. John Maxwell is the most incredible communicator I've seen and to get this opportunity to sit down with him and go through this and help you and everyone else understand how you can be an incredible speaker and communicator is such a gift. Is it a little overwhelming today?
Starting point is 00:19:51 Heck, yeah, it is. But we are going to make it work, rise to the occasion and figure out a way to make it happen because when opportunity knocks, you got to answer, my friend. I'm answering today. It's a little overwhelming. It is so exciting. and I'm so grateful because I know there's going to be so many people that this conversation helps. So I hope your week is off to an amazing start.
Starting point is 00:20:16 I hope you are going bigger and realizing Dunn will always be better than perfect in your world. When opportunity knocks, open that door.
