Now, you know so rarely do I ever have a guest on twice, but today we have Carolina Olivera, the CEO and co-founder of One Skin back on for a second time, and I'm gonna break down free what?

She holds a PhD in STEM cell biology and tissue engineering is a co-inventor of five patents and co-author of numerous scientific publications. She is the real deal. She relocated from Brazil to Silicon Valley in 2016 to found one skin. Okay, so I beg you to come back on because I've now been on your products for five months. And I told you this off air, it's so crazy. few years. That's not my opinion. I do feel that way. That's my dermatologist who is not affiliated with one skin at all told me that when I went into his office, he's also a dear friend of mine, and he was so interested in one skin and the testimonial I gave him. Aren't you feeling that it's just exploding? Yeah, it's funny how, you know, it's definitely building momentum. I think many years of research and very solid and rigorous work is now coming up with so many people recognizing the results that they are seeing with their products and the clinical studies that are backing up all of our science. And even from the PR side that having this recognition is super exciting because this is literally seven years of like really hard work so it takes a village

to kind of build something that's really groundbreaking where justice starting there's so much more to come. I'm so excited and I'm so here for all of it. But can you share a little bit about the technology, the science behind what One Skin's all about?

Yeah, so the main innovation of one skin products is this novel peptide that we found. And for those who don't know what's a peptide, peptide is basically a small version of a protein and this peptide can have different functions in our bodies. The one that we found is completely novel, is completely unique in a way that it functions. So we found that this peptide to be able to reduce

the amount of old cells in our skin, also called senescent or zombie cells. These are cells that have accumulated in our skin as we get exposed to UV damage, to pollution, all these environmental stresses lead to the damage that leads to the buildup of those zombie cells. So what those zombie cells do in our skin, they secret inflammation that basically leads to

college and breakdown, and these leads to wrinkles, sagging, dark spots, all the things that we don't want. So our strategy is very interesting because we knew that these cells were like driving aging in the inner layers of our skin. So we searched for a new peptide that could basically activate our cell's ability to repair damage more efficiently so we don't accumulate too many of those zombie cells. And in the studies that we found, we could validate that by reducing the amount of zombie cells in the skin, we allow the healthy skin cells to replicate again so they can produce more collagen. They basically rejuvenate your skin from the inside

out. So your skin is like healthier, it looks younger too, but in a very safe way, it doesn't cause any side effects, like very different from other products in the market, like red, now, or assets that can peel off the upper layers of your skin. You have a smoothed their skin, but you are not addressing what's causing aging underneath. The other cool data that we have of this peptide,

when we treated these skins in the lab, is that we could measure that it reverses the age of the skin. So we can quantify how many years we are actually reducing the age of the skin. And in the lab, we saw that we could reduce 2.5 years the age of the skins that were treated with this peptide. And then in humans, we also did a study in humans. So basically, these are people that have used the product for 12 months, and we needed to collect a skin biopsy, and we could measure the age reversal, and we could see a decrease of 3.3 years

in the skin of those participants. So this is very revolutionary that now we can validate, that we can actually reverse the age of the skin in humans. And what that means for, you know, our consumers, our users, is that using our product, we are not going to have a skin that's biologically younger, functions like younger skin. It looks like younger as well. It looks like smoother, it looks firmer, it has a stronger skin barrier, which is super important for longevity for our overall health. Well recently I read an article from a biohacker I'm trying to think Nick Endgerer. Yeah. Yeah. PhD I, he had written a pretty detailed article about him doing his own research, which I love because of course, companies always come out with their information. And you always as a consumer, you know, we always wonder, I don't have a PhD.

I can't question anything. But I like seeing that he did his own research. Can you talk to us a little bit about the different way that he did his research and the massive results that he saw, which were even bigger than the results that you brought forward? Yeah, we love when our customers do that. So we have a lot of those very savvy and people that like to run their own experiments. So Nick is one of them. So basically, he bought our products, he went to a clinic and he got a Vizis scan. So this Vizis scan, it's basically an imaging,

a very sophisticated imaging system that can see beyond what we can see at our naked eye, you can see pores, you can see some damage. And in the end, what the software does, it gives you like a skin age. So when he started, I think if I'm not wrong, his age was 41 years old. And he saw that they had a lot of sun damage. And obviously he could see the fine lines and wrinkles. And he used one skin for five months. And then he went back to the same clinic and got to those images again, you know, the difference on the skin age reversal was like from 41 to 35 or 34. I remember that

was seven years like age reversal that he saw in his own experiment damage, he saw improvements in fine lines and wrinkles, and everything is quantitative, which I love because it's not like his own perception. Oh, I feel that my skin is looking better. This machine allows you to quantify, like you're improving 35%, you're improving, whatever amount, that's the kind of data that we love because we believe that we can rely much better on those data than like the subjective perception that a lot of companies use because it's easier to get some data this way. But yeah, we were really happy and we have other people like him, biohackers, scientists that they like to do this kind of experiment. And we actually, yeah, incentivize people to do that because we want to get as much data as possible. And we know that the best way is actually to be able to quantify. And for that, you need to like some more sophisticated machine or, you know, image system.

Well, I love that number seven years that he shared. I was like, this is okay, now we're talking. And for everyone listening, I mean, truly, this is a third party doing their own data analysis.
