For me personally, I want our next generation and the next generation don't forget about their roots
and you don't get carried away with all what's happening it's beautiful but use it but don't
forget about who you are. What I want to see in this country is for youth and the next generation
to understand how much they're lucky to be here today.
Come on this journey with me.
Each week when you join me, we are going to chase down our goals, overcome adversity and set you up for a better tomorrow.
I'm ready for my closeup.
Hi and welcome back.
I'm so glad you're back here with me this week.
Okay.
So this is wild.
Do you remember that incredible trip that I went on to Saudi Arabia for the leap? 2024 conference? Um, I'm sure you remember I talk about it
all the time, but today I'm sharing with you one of the incredible experiences that I had
while I was in Saudi Arabia. I got the opportunity to interview the princess of Saudi Arabia.
I can't even believe this is true. This is how is this my life? Like,
is this insane? I can't even believe it. It's so incredible. I'm so blessed, so grateful for this
opportunity. But don't forget, I was scared to go out there, right? Like I was afraid, I was nervous
and I was worrying for nothing because this experience was so positive, so powerful. I was definitely a little intimidated.
And it was funny, I was in the green room
going out to interview the princess of Saudi Arabia
and the CEO of TikTok was in the green room next to me
in a CNN anchor.
And it's just wild where you can land
and what's possible in life
that you could have never planned for.
Life is turning out so much better than I ever thought.
And I could have never planned for or anticipated any of
it. It's just so wild. I hope you are so excited about your future because you
just never know what can happen next when you dream big and step into fear on
the regular. It's so wild. Okay so today you're gonna hear really me on this
massive stage in Saudi Arabia
and Riyadh with the princess of Saudi Arabia. There's actually two of them. You're going to
hear me introduce them. You're going to hear me interview them. When I look back and remember
this day, I was super excited. Remember, there's a fine line between fear and excitement, always
lean into being excited. But I'll tell you, it was the last minute I was walking out and they gave me,
the PR lady grabbed me and said,
oh, you need to announce this.
And it was in Arabic.
And I remember thinking,
you gotta be kidding me right now.
And the princesses were already walking out on stage
and I didn't have any time.
And I was kind of saying, lady,
you gotta write this down phonetically for me.
I need some help.
So, oh gosh, I hope I don't really blow it out there.
I don't think I did.
I think I pulled it off, but I'm sure I,
I'm sure my Arabic wasn't that great,
but give me some grace please,
because I don't know how to speak Arabic,
but I sure did try.
Let me know what you think.
Let me know if you think I pulled it off, okay?
But here's the thing that I wanted to mention is
the princess was so graceful and beautiful
and wonderful inside and out.
And she really speaks to me at one point in this.
And I think you're going to hear it.
And she speaks to the audience, too.
It was incredible.
You just have to believe you've got to believe in yourself.
And I felt like she was really speaking into my eyes, into my soul, into me.
And I hope you feel the same way because she is speaking to you.
You just got to believe.
All right, here we go.
We're taking it back to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia
with the princesses and me.
And I can't even believe I'm saying this.
Let me know what you think.
Here we go.
As-salamu alaykum, Riyadh.
Thank you so much for having us today.
It is such an honor to be here as a US citizen.
And my first time in Saudi Arabia,
I'm so grateful for this opportunity to be here as a U.S. citizen and my first time in Saudi Arabia, I'm so grateful for this
opportunity to be here.
And to be here with such two incredible women, I'm sure you're so equally as excited as I
am today.
So first of all, I just wanted to say Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia bint Majid al-Saud,
thank you so much for being here today.
And Her Highness Princess Jouaher al-Saud, thank you so much for being here today. Thank you Highness Princess Jouaher Asaoud.
Thank you so much for being here today.
Thank you so much for having us.
I want to take a moment to acknowledge something
very exciting that happened in the last week.
I'd like to congratulate Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia
for launching at Live the first public AI reporter
from Deforestation.
Can you tell us a little bit about this?
Thank you very much for having me today.
Well, it's an AI tool we just launched in the Web Summit in Qatar.
It's a tool that gather satellite imagery with some data from data center.
It really monitor the deforestation all around the world and it report by itself.
It reports to journalists, to activists, advocates, and some of universities. And we
launched it with seven languages. And, Alhamdulillah, till now we have over almost half a million
hits on the AI tool. Yes.
Okay. I don't know about this part of the country, but over half a million hits is a
lot. Can we give her a round of applause, please?
Very exciting. very exciting.
Thank you so much for sharing that.
OK, so let's start with a few questions.
Today, we are given the opportunity
to celebrate and acknowledge how much the kingdom is doing
to elevate women and the role that they are playing today
and beyond in the Vision 2030 and beyond.
Princess Joaher, how has Tawouniya fostered diversity
in inclusion in the workplace?
So Tawouniya, evident by our diverse workforce,
is one of the heavily promotes inclusion and equity.
Around 40% of our total workforce are women.
20% of them are occupying leadership positions.
Not just that, we have females represented
at all levels of the organization,
from frontliners up to board membership.
You would find women in each and every part
of the organization.
They're in digital, in development, finance,
underwriting, customer experience, operations.
There's a large percentage of equity within Tawania.
It's incredible, where is the passion
or interest coming from in women?
Has this always been here?
Essentially, yes, but also with the very ambitious vision
of 2030, Tawania plays a great role
in supporting this vision, and women empowerment
is a major social reform part of this vision, and women empowerment is a major social reform
part of this vision, and Taounia being the largest company,
insurance company in the MENA region,
is in great support of that as well.
The statistics are amazing on the amount of women
in roles here, and so eye-opening,
and I can promise you this,
this woman will be back in the United States
communicating what an opportunity it is here
for women to advance.
Princess Lamia, how does your organization
specifically support and empower women
in the technology industry overall?
First of all, we have to put in mind
that it's one of our core area of focus out of five.
We actually concentrate on a creative empowerment.
So we work, the foundation work in over 180 countries
around the world.
We invested in humanity over $4.5 billion
and we reached 1.2 billion beneficiaries around the world.
The foundation been working for 44 years now
and all of this it's led by only 10 Saudi women.
So if we're gonna talk about empowerment,
so this is a very good example about women empowerment.
Yet let's talk a bit about empowering women
in different sectors.
So we do pay respect for each and every community,
even area, whatever that can support and empower women.
In Riyadh, it will maybe not applicable
in the west or the south of Saudi Arabia.
Even internationally, whatever empowers women in Egypt,
it may be not suitable for women in the Far East.
So we always pay attention to the forecast
of each and every area that we intend to empower women in.
In tech in specific, I'll give you two examples.
One is going on now and one it was previous,
both are very huge success that we did.
The first is an application called Ismaani.
It was created for people with hearing disability.
So we created this app, there is an online translation, all the medical reports, it's
uploaded in the system.
There is a full team to reply, you
can take an appointment for a translator to go with you to hospitals, to courts.
This application now is used by the Ministry of Education.
The other one on a global level, we did in 2000, I believe, 16 or 17, it was called Tweet
for Heat.
We invented a device, actually.
We invented a device actually. We invented a device, it was in favor of creating awareness
about winter supplies for Syrian refugees.
We did this in a couple of camps in Europe
and in the Middle East.
We actually put this device in the tents.
So the device, it tweet by itself when the tent
it's warm enough for people to get encouraged
to donate more for the winter supplies.
We did that because back then the ratio was 51 women and girls in the refugee camp, 53
was kids.
So we actually gathered more than almost $1.2 million for the winter supplies.
So this is how we use tech in doing good. Wow, one
of the things that you see anywhere in the world is people may speak a lot
about initiatives to change and evolve and elevate women, but it's rare to see
all of Saudi Arabia getting behind it financially. How does that actually
happen or how did that come to be that the resources were made available? In
Saudi Arabia, doing good, it's in our DNA.
This is something that we grew up in.
It's like literally breathing and eating and drinking.
This is something that we have to do.
And I always tell my team whenever I have a newcomer
or a new lady that they will join us,
I tell them if you're coming here for a job,
this is not a job.
If you don't have the passion to help and to support people around the world, then
let's quit this interview right this second. So it's in our DNA actually.
When I started podcasting, an online store was the furthest thing from my mind.
Now I'm selling my group coaching on the regular and it is just so easy.
All because I use Shopify.

follow your passion, do good, and serve others,
and your success will be ahead of you.
That is so true, I love that you shared that.
Princess Jawahar, could you share a success story
related to Twania's digital transformation?
Maybe I'll start by saying that one of Tiawannia's main objectives is to be a digital first organisation.
So we basically aim to optimise the services that we provide to our customers through digitisation.
Tiawannia is in the forefront for integrating artificial intelligence into our operations,
streamlining processes and improving the customer experience.
I'll give two examples, maybe.
We have two products that we are very proud of.
We call them value-added services.
One of them is the Vitality application.
This application is basically an application
that promotes healthy living.
It monitors your steps, your exercises,
it encourages the customer to eat well.
It has other a variety of healthcare services such as vaccination appointments, woman health,
refill of medications and so on. And it's fully digital end-to-end. The other application is the
drive application and this basically promotes, it monitors your behavior while driving and it gives
you point literally at the end of every trip.
You get points on how you're driving with it.
It looks at your acceleration, your brakes, you're touching your phone.
I mean I'm using it, it's like someone's watching you.
By end of every trip, it gives you that rating.
And it's again end-to-end digital.
In addition, I'll take this opportunity to mention that we have revamped our voice of
customer measurement system a few months back, and it's completely digital end to end.
I would like that for my child effective immediately.
That sounds incredible.
And, I mean, just improve society again, making it better for everyone.
It's incredible.
Princess Lamia, can you give us an example, a story of some of the women that you've seen
advance that have been on your teams and some of the success stories that you've been able
to witness yourself?
I'll tell you a story about a project that I'm personally very proud of.
So in 2015, actually 2014, we started a project.
It's in favor of creating awareness about women legal
rights. Back then in 2014 it wasn't that welcomed, it wasn't understood quite well
but we took the challenge and we kept it going till date. This project we
literally travel all around the kingdom in the most rural areas and the hard
areas to reach just to create this awareness about legal rights for women.
And then we saw that there is a need to upscale the knowledge and we train lawyers just for them to practice law as well.
So from our project we graduated almost 600 female lawyers now are practicing and, in Saudi Arabia, Alhamdulillah.
After that, we saw that there is a lot
of privacy issues in there, for a woman who was violated
or have a lot of problems with their husbands
or families or whatever.
So we created an app, which is a very secure app
for privacy for women.
So you can go in this app and you take consultancy for free.
You can file a lawsuit by this app,
and it's all pro-bonus, zero charge.
I'm very proud to announce today, till date,
we have 11,000 legal consultancy we provided,
and we took almost 1,500 cases in favor of women in Saudi Arabia.
So this is something that I'm very personally proud of.
For me, I'm very proud of my team, honestly.
I think this is a very good example for women empowerment.
We're talking about literally 10 ladies handling while me and you talking now over 55 projects
with almost 80 plus partners
and as I told you in 180 countries around the world.
So when you believe in women, they do miracles.
So now in the audience we have three of my teams.
So sitting here today is 40% of the Waleed Philanthropist team.
It's amazing.
How I think about how this compares to the United States.
We've had pay inequality and we talk about it
all of the time in the US.
However, we have not been able to close that gap.
Here, it seems like change is happening so rapidly.
What is the key to that?
How do you make the change happen so quickly?
Well, the misunderstanding that you're thinking
that women are just been empowered.
Now, they're fully empowered.
Now, we still have a way to go.
But back then, when you look to the history of this country,
the King Abdulaziz, when he used to take pride of himself,
he used to say, Anakho Noura, that I'm the brother of Noura,
Princess Noura bint Abdrahman.
She was the icon of woman empowerment.
It's very interesting that you say that because the international media always concentrate on the
what they want to picture us, how they want to frame the Saudi women.
But if you read the history, you will find a lot of success stories for women during the past eras. But nowadays when you have a leader and the king
and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, he's a young ruler
who's literally talking the language of almost 70%
of our population.
So 70% of the population, almost 70%, 67 or 70,
are under 28.
So he's literally talking the language
of most of his population.
So nowadays what you're seeing of innovation
and how we're supporting women
and how we're concentrating and focusing
on how to support women in a creative way
that really means and reflect well on the
community. This is because we have a person who's really believing in us and
Alhamdulillah we're very grateful for that. It's incredibly obvious. Princess
Juahir, as a leader how do you align Tawaniya's strategies and national
policies related to women empowerment? So maybe as I mentioned, since women empowerment is one of the major social reforms under the
vision, Tiaounia is playing a great role to support that, again, being the largest insurance
company in the region by diversifying or ensuring diversification of its workforce in general,
and ensuring the application of any national rules or
regulations to empower women. That's one of the many ways in which Ta'awaniya is
supporting the vision through societal development, economical advancement and
so on. In Ta'awaniya, I think the representation of females across the board of the entire company and
the percentage reaching 40% of your entire workforce to be females is not a small percentage.
You're almost equal.
And I think this is one of the largest representations or women to men ratio in any company.
Where I'm from, one of the challenges women have is ourselves, our own self-doubt,
and sometimes, myself included,
where you think, am I qualified to do this?
Do you run into people that feel that same way
and how do you encourage them?
I have actually, I mean, maybe not necessarily in Tavania,
but throughout my career I have.
And I think it's just a matter of helping the person
uncover their own capabilities,
trying to find where they excel and support them
to actually move towards that road,
give them the tools, coach them, train them.
I'm sure that every woman that I have met throughout
my career has more capabilities
than she actually thinks she does. And looking at myself when I first started my career,
there were many times where I stood in front of some tasks and I was like, how am I going to do
that? I don't know how to do that. And seriously, I was blessed to have people around me in the
workplace who have empowered me,
who have helped me unleash my capabilities.
And I learned from them and did the same
for other people throughout my career.
And maybe I'll mention one example
that's not necessarily me,
it was an entire organization.
One of the organizations that I've worked with,
we had a female employee, she's a single mother,
and she's taking care of two kids. That was really, really way back. There was no daycares in some
organizations, so she had to bring her kids there, and they're in the reception
with the patients or customers coming to that reception. And her management
realized that, and instead of telling her off, they actually tried to figure out a
way to
help her take care of her kids because she's working to provide for her kids
she's a single mom she has no support whatsoever and that was where the idea
for at the time of the daycare started and now that organizations has a daycare
and each and every woman who works in that organization
who has kids is actually benefiting from that.
And that was the start of it.
That's a beautiful story, and again,
this is incredible advice for anyone around
stepping into where your true passion lies.
I talk to people a lot about this
to ignite the confidence within yourself.
If you're in an accounting job, but your passion is in art,
you're never gonna feel the most confident and strongest
and powerful that you can feel if you remain in a career
and trajectory that isn't meant for you.
Follow and find what those strengths are.
They can be so surprising in many different ways.
Thank you so much for sharing that.
Princess Lamia, how would you describe the evolution
of Saudi women in the tech industry?
Well, I believe it's evident.
The participation of women in tech and innovation, I think it was recorded in 2021, 28 percent.
And comparing to Europe, which is 17.5, there is a huge difference.
And I would say this goes to the clear path and channels
that the government is providing,
whether from training, diplomas, knowledge centers,
and also the change of the society norms in Saudi Arabia
and the need for training more technology professionals
in a way or another.
When you look to the big events,
I would give a very good example, like the hackathon.
In 2022, the hackathon, the winner was a team of four women,
two men, and it was, I think they provided a solution
for something called smart cities.
It was relevant to the traffic problem.
2023, the winner team was three women, three boys,
and it was about healthcare,
and the project called Medicare.
And then 2024, I believe this year,
it's about education, and it will be announced very soon.
The winner, that shows you that I don't think
that we're facing any inequality in providing knowledge
whether for female or male. This country is a very cheerful country and I asked
you when I came in and we got introduced what do you think and you said wow it
exceeded your expectation and and how people they really excited to build
with all the facilities with all to build with all the facilities, with all the incentives,
with all the training, with all the help.
It's evident that this country, and we're building upon the highest standard, which is innovation and technology,
and our investment honestly is in our youth, in our population.
And they want to do something, we want them to do something,
and I think it's a win-win equation, I believe.

I asked you to try to find your passion. It's truly so obvious here in everyone that you meet and see, so I couldn't agree with
you more.
Princess Jawahar, what are you most excited about looking forward?
Things are moving in a very, very fast pace in the country.
Things are changing in what seems like a blink of an eye.
And I'm really, really looking forward and excited to see what Saudi Arabia is going
to look like 10 years from now. We're basically making the largest change in every which way,
in every sector, in every venue to make this country the best ever. And I'm really, really
looking forward to see what Saudi Arabia is going to be like here is down the road. I am as well because I've never seen something
as massive as Saudi Arabia change so quickly and hearing these stories is so
empowering. What are you looking forward to most or excited about? Well I think
Vision 2030 very well displayed the dreams and the goals for this country.
But for me personally, I want our next generation and the next generation don't forget about
their roots.
And you don't get carried away with all what's happening.
It's beautiful, but use it, but don't forget about who you are.
What I want to see in this country is for youth and the next generation
to understand how much they're lucky to be here today.
Us back then, I would never ever even pass my mind
that I would be sitting here with a stage
that have male and female are sitting watching us.
Honestly, Joaher, she's my cousin,
but I used to know her when she was that little girl.
I would never imagine that one day
I would sitting with her in a panel
and I'm very proud of where you achieved honestly,
and you still have a way to go.
So I want the tomorrow generation to understand
how this is a very and extremely big
opportunity to build this country. We never had this opportunity or we never
had the choice. We had certain type of jobs that we can work in so they have an
astonishing opportunity. What I want to see how they're going to take it to the
next level.
And I have full trust.
Inshallah, it will be amazing.
I couldn't agree more.
And I will tell you that sentiment rings true no matter where you live is reflecting upon
the past and the people that paved the way for us to be here today.
Much like you, I never thought I would have the opportunity to sit on this stage today
with both of you.
And I'm so grateful for that.
And for anyone listening that is worried
about driving forward, for those moments,
don't think about yourself.
Think about that woman coming after you.
Someone paved that way for you to be here today.
It's our obligation and duty to continue to shine bright,
show up and keep moving forward
so that others can after us.
Princess Jawahar, what final thoughts do you have today
that you would like to leave maybe women with here
or anyone that's gonna possibly listen to this?
Maybe I'll repeat something that I've said.
Do not underestimate your capabilities.
You're always capable of much, much more
than what you think you can.
I think that would be my advice to anyone, women specifically, but everyone in general.
It's so true in mindset as well as you both had mentioned, the people that you surround
yourself with is another critical piece.
And it's so important to surround yourself with people from different cultures and come
to events like this where you're meeting and learning from different industries,
different parts of the world,
and how you can apply that knowledge back to your business,
to where you're living.
This morning, I was lucky enough to have a Saudi woman
come to do my makeup, and she's an amazing person,
and she's young and wonderful,
and we're talking about the LEAP Conference
and the opportunity to meet you both today.
And she was so excited about it.
And I said, well, what do you see your future like?
She said, whatever it is, it's going to be wonderful.
I said, well, what about the idea of you becoming an entrepreneur and taking these amazing eyelashes
that you have that we don't have in the U.S.
And why don't you brand them yourself and start marketing them?
And then you can make money while you sleep?"
And she looked at me and she said, I never thought about a business that way.
And of course, until you speak to somebody who's done a certain business, make sure that
you're speaking to people in different industries and you never know where an idea can take
you.
Make time to speak to different people at the conference today and just think of how
that can elevate your business or your passions.
It can definitely change things for the better for you.
What would you like to lead people with today?
It's not an advice, it's a fact.
You need to believe in yourself.
You really need to believe in yourself.
You need to understand that you're one of a kind.
It's evident.
You are one of a kind, whether from a physical perspective, you are one of a kind, it's evident. You are one of a kind, whether from a physical perspective,
you are one of a kind.
You're a person who came to this world to deliver something.
Be always aware, do not lose sight on your awareness.
Sometimes, Heather, when you're very much aware,
there's a lot of opportunities come in front of you.
If you don't understand why you're here,
where you're going, you will never pick it up. I'll tell you a very interesting
story. When I start working with His Royal Highness Prince Al-Walid, I was
actually the executive manager of the media department. The secretary general
had something and she had to quit the job. I saw him start meeting candidates
and it was for me like a shock
why he's meeting candidates, why it's not me. Do you think I shy away and I was
depressed? I literally took an appointment, go to his office and I asked him,
Your Highness, why you're meeting other candidates? And he said, because it's the
secretary general position. And I said, why you didn't think of me? And he said,
your media? I said, yes, I'm of me and he said your media said yes
I'm media but I want to be the secretary general and you have to try me and
literally I stayed for one year half the budget of the previous secretary general
I took it because I wanted to prove something and I wanted this position and
Alhamdulillah I have been there for 10 years now and I believe I did good I
believe so so just believe in yourself.
Grab the opportunity.
Do not hesitate for a second to go to the next level.
Literally, after I went to him and I took this position,
I literally went to the bathroom, I start crying.
What the hell I did to myself?
What just happened now?
But you know what?
That was the best thing
ever happened to my life.
So just don't be afraid.
Go ahead, there is a beautiful life in front of you,
and believe in yourself.
That's what I want to leave people with.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
That was incredible, and hearing that both of these women
had had moments where they too struggled
with believing in themselves.
I hope that everyone takes that with them today.
Clearly I have as well even before taking the stage today.
So I'm so grateful.
Please join me in thanking both of these princesses
for their time and their candor. Hi, I'm here to tell you about a new podcast that I am so excited about, Negotiate Your
