Come on this journey with me. Each week when you join me, we are going to chase down our goals,
overcome adversity, and set you up for a better tomorrow.
Hi and welcome back. I'm so glad you're back here with me this week. I was reminded of a parable
this week that I hadn't seen in a long time. I want to read it to you. It's a cute story,
but it has a really powerful message that I thought might be meaningful to you today.
Okay, so here goes. There once was an old farmer. One day his only horse ran away.
Hearing the news all the neighbors in the village said to the old man, what a
terrible loss! Such bad luck! The old man replied, maybe yes, maybe no, we'll see.
A few days later the horse returned to the farm accompanied by seven wild The old man replied, maybe yes, maybe no, we'll see.
A few days later, the horse returned to the farm
accompanied by seven wild horses.
Wow, that's incredible.
What good luck, his neighbor said.
Maybe yes, maybe no, we'll see, the old farmer replied.
The next day, the farmer's only son
attempted to ride one of the wild horses.
The horse threw him and he broke both of his legs.
The neighbor said, I'm so sorry, that is such a horrible news.
What misfortune.
The man simply replied, maybe yes, maybe no, we'll see.
Soon after the country found itself at war and every able-bodied young man was drafted
to fight, but the farmer's son was spared because of his injuries.
You must be so happy. What great news
Such luck for your family said the neighbors and the old farmer simply replied maybe yes, maybe no
We'll see okay. So I love that story because
When you're in it like when you're in the throes of life for me
Like, you know, obviously it reminds me of getting fired, right?
Like when it's happening, it feels like ah, this is the worst thing in the world
Cut to you know, here we are seven years later. I would have never written my book
I would have never launched my podcast. I would have never started my speaking career. I would have never written my second book
I would have never spoken Saudi Arabia. I would have never done all these things
I would be on the board of directors of two different companies. I'm doing so many
incredible things now that I never would have done. So my point is this, just like the old
farmer says, maybe yes, maybe no, we'll see. So it doesn't have to be so profoundly bad.
Maybe it's actually great and we just don't know it yet. Because that is the
truth and the reality that day that I got fired, I thought it was the end of my life. Literally,
I was freaking out, having a panic attack, went under a weighted blanket. I was a full blown train
wreck. And it was because I felt something was wrong. Something was being taken away from me
that shouldn't be. Instead of being like the farmer and saying
Maybe this is awful. Maybe it's great. Maybe yes, maybe no
We'll see like being open to the idea that maybe it's so much better than we could have ever imagined same with relationships
Right when one door closes a better one gets open
Approaching it that way instead of oh my gosh, I love this person so much and
it didn't work out.
I'm heartbroken.
I'm devastated.
I'm going to go circle the drain and be negative Nellie.
No.
Instead, choose to say, maybe yes, maybe no.
We'll see.
And I'll tell you, here I am now over a year out of my last relationship.
Now I'm so grateful it didn't work out, right?
But in those moments when it first happens, my tendency has been to say, no, this is horrible,
no, this is horrible. And I need to remind myself, maybe yes, maybe no, we'll see. Maybe that door
was closed because a better one's about to open. And that is how I'm training myself to think now.
And that's how I want you to train yourself to think too. The more you can step into that, the more you focus on the good,
the more the goods going to start coming to you.
And the more you appreciate what you already have,
the more you'll have things to be grateful for.
When you think about businesses growing their sales beyond forecasts like Beastables by
Mr. Beast or even a legacy business like Mattel, sure, you think about a product with demand,
a focused brand, and influence driven marketing, but an often overlooked secret is actually
the businesses behind the business making selling and for shoppers buying simple for millions of businesses. That business is Shopify.
Nobody does selling better than Shopify, home of the number one checkout on the
planet and the not-so-secret sauce with shop pay that boosts conversions up to
50% meaning way less carts go abandoned and way more sales going.
So if you're into growing your business, your commerce platform better be ready to sell
wherever your customers are scrolling or strolling on the web, in your store, in their feed and
everywhere in between.
Businesses that sell more sell on Shopify.
The secret's out. It's no secret. Businesses that want to grow, grow with Shopify.
Upgrade your business and get the same checkout that I use. Go right now and check it out
on my page. Shopify is the answer. Sign up for your $1 per month trial period of shopify.com slash monahan all lowercase.
Go to shopify.com slash monahan to upgrade your selling today.
shopify.com slash monahan. Practice gratitude, practice being like the farmer that maybe yes, maybe no, maybe we
just need to wait and see.
When you're in it, you can't really look beyond it, right?
However, you can connect the dots once you're looking back.
You just got to have faith to get you there.
And I think that's where most of us struggle. It certainly is where I have struggled in the past and I am working to
get better. Okay. So this week I was out in LA and it's so interesting. I was listening
to somebody say to me, oh, hey, I had an opportunity to launch this new business and it's incredible.
This huge company reached out to me,
and choose to see this green light that means go and go faster.
And so for me, it was a risk, you know,
partnering with this new company,
partnering with this woman that I had never met before,
and you know, going out to LA for my first trip
to work together and not knowing what to expect.
And yeah, of course there's moments that are scary
and you don't know what's gonna happen
and you're hoping you did the right thing,
but it's not like a lock. It's not a guarantee. It's not, okay, we know 100% this is the right
move. Maybe yes, maybe no. We'll have to wait and see. I go in with the attitude though
that it's going to be incredible, that great things are going to happen. And I will tell
you I had the most amazing week. Yeah, of course I'm exhausted and I probably dropped
the ball on way too many things this week because I hadn't planned on being in LA. This all happened very,
very quickly and so many great things happened and so many
serendipitous things happened and I ran into so many people I knew and I hadn't
been in LA in gosh, almost two years now. So it was just, it was so great.
I launched this podcast there, you know, back in 2019,
the company that I first launched
a show with is headquartered in Beverly Hills.
And so I was out there every other week recording for the show.
And it was just so fun to be back this time with a different company, this time with a
different intent and intention and different business.
But it was so great.
And yeah, it's a risk, right?
You don't know if it's all going to work out, but you're willing to double down and bet
on yourself.
And I was reminded of something else this week when I was in one of the meetings, my You don't know if it's all going to work out, but you're willing to double down and bet on yourself.
I was reminded of something else this week. When I was in one of the meetings, my background, as you know, is sales and sales leadership.
That's something that I did for, gosh, I don't know, 25 years.
I've got a ton of experience with it. I taught it at Harvard. I'm definitely an expert in that arena.
It was interesting. I was sitting in one of these meetings with this new company, and they don't have an expert in that arena.
I was sitting in one of these meetings with this new company and they don't have an expert in sales or sales leadership on their team.
So to me it's so obvious and so easy to say,
Oh gosh, here's what you're missing, here's what you need to do, let's pull a trigger and do A, B, C, and D.
It's going to look like this, this is how it's all going to shape up and this is what we can expect from it.
I've done it 9 million times for 25 years, so I can do that in my sleep.
However, what was so interesting is while I'm sitting with incredibly talented people, that's not their area of expertise.
So it's just so important to remember, find the who that can fill the void that you have.
That is the fastest way to leapfrog over something. Whether you need to hire a coach, hire a consultant, whatever it is, don't try to reinvent the wheel and teach yourself how to become a sales and sales leadership expert
when you just need to tap that right person and put them in.
Put me in coach. I can fix this and I can fix it faster than anybody else because I've
done it 9 million times. So find that person. Identify what area you don't have expertise
in where you need that support,
where you have a void, a current void, and then find out who is the who,
who's the person that you need to plug in there and watch your business explode.
And it was just so fun to be able to sit with those people and give them my expertise and my knowledge,
which is easy to do, right? It's so great when all the pieces of the puzzle come together and where a company might be
missing something, you add that value.
It's great to see the right teams come together.
So think about your business, think about where you're lacking, what voids there might
be and then figure out who is the person in your network that you can tap that can come
in and fill that void.
Because that's the fastest way to leapfrog and blow up your business and take you to
the next level.
If you've heard of Ozempic or Wegevy, you've probably heard three things.
They're effective, but they're expensive and they're hard to get.

The next thing that I was noticing this week is, I came up in conversation a number of
different times and I was hired twice in the past week literally to fix this problem for
people is lack of accountability.
And it's shocking to me because accountability is, I mean, we all need to hold ourselves
accountable.
We all need to set specific goals and make them known.
I remember one of the best ways I held myself accountable when I wanted to write my first
book, Confidence Creator, was I posted on social media, I'm writing a book. It's like
reverse engineering. You're putting pressure on yourself by letting everybody in your community
know what you're doing before you've actually done it. People were constantly messaging
me, when's the book going to be done? Where are you at? How much do you have done? Give
us some ideas.
So that just put the pressure on to say, hey, Heather,
get writing, get working.
So there was no backing out of it.
You've got to hold yourself accountable.
You've got to surround yourself with accountability partners.
You're on a weight loss journey, or you
want to leave your current job, or leave your current mission,
whatever it is.
Get someone and tap somebody in your life
that can hold you accountable.
And hold yourself accountable.
Or do like I did, reverse engineer it and start announcing it to your community and to people in your life
so that they hold you accountable.
But the end of the day, a goal is not a goal unless you give it a deadline, unless you make it known.
It's just a dream.
And life is way too short to just sit around and dream.
We've got to sit around and dream and then build a plan against it and hold ourselves
accountable.
If you want anything to happen, that's probably where you're missing.
And I just saw it so much this week that so many people don't get into the specifics.
Those that deal in generality seldom succeed.
Those that deal in specifics seldom fail.
Right?
So get into the specifics.
And that means if you want to write a book, figure out the date
you're going to start writing.
How many hours are you going to write each day?
Is it Monday through Friday?
How many months can you plan out that you think this is going to take you?
Let's build a plan around that.
Who do we need to hire?
Who are the who's that we need to bring in?
We need to bring in an editor.
Who do you know for an editor?
You need to get really specific against these goals, not just claim a big goal.
I'm writing a book and leave it at that.
It's not gonna happen.
We need to take those next steps.
We need to put the specific plan together.
We need to give ourselves deadlines.
We need to share those deadlines with other people
and we need to hold ourselves accountable to tasks.
And when we're not, we need to hire somebody
that's gonna do it for us.
Right, because again,
your dreams are put on your heart for a reason.
God put them on you for a reason.
You are meant for more.
You have purpose.
You have passion in life.
You just need to hold yourself accountable and chase them down.
And I'll tell you, the more people I talk to, everybody's got some big dream or some
big goal and it's going to make the world better, then let that lead you.
Let that inspire you that there's so much good that you can do and and
Holding back and not selling that idea and not moving that forwards making the world a darker place and that is no good my friends
We need to be here to turn up our light to do more good in the world and to
Bring forward the dreams that we have on our heart. So I hope that you do that. I hope that you hold yourself accountable
I hope that you do that. I hope that you hold yourself accountable.
I hope that you get an accountability partner.
If you don't have one,
you can get a free one on my website, heathermonahan.com.
Go to the free 30 day accountability partner program,
put that link in the show notes for you and sign up for it.
You're gonna get an email from me every day
reminding you to hold yourself accountable to your goals,
reminding you to announce
what it is that you're working at,
reminding you to not go it alone,
but to tap somebody to do it with you.
No one succeeds alone in this world.
And that includes this girl right here.
So if you could please share this show
with one person that you think could benefit from it,
it would mean the world to me.
All right, keeping it short today,
hold yourself accountable.
Remember, be like the farmer and ask yourself, maybe yes, maybe no, maybe we'll just see.
You can't connect the dots looking forward.
You can only do that looking back.
Some of the biggest blessings in my life seem like absolute nightmares in the moment.
And turned out, the farmer was right.
Maybe yes, maybe no.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.
And I waited, I'm seeing right now, it's been a complete blessing.
So don't fool yourself into thinking something potentially negative is negative.
Maybe it's the biggest blessing and gift in your life.
All right, until next week, keep creating your confidence.
