I don't know him.

Welcome to Crime Fix.
I'm Anjanette Levy.
Outcomes like this where a victim escapes a violent crime unharmed.
You don't see it that often.
So I am really happy to report to you that down in Florida, sometimes the criminals,
aren't smarter or stronger than a fifth grader and thank goodness for that. The alleged
incident took place as this young girl was walking home from school in North Miami back in August.
Luckily, a witness saw the entire thing, so officers head over to the apartment complex
where it all went down.
Negative.
Negative.
Complaining it can come.
Can you come, open the door.
Okay, it's on our very busy.
Choose, oh.
Okay, oh.
Okay.
Okay.
Two-55 back, just advised that will be on the east side of the development.
Hi, do you call the police?
You call the police?
Yes, one of the up there, yes.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
All the way down there.
You call?
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Do you see what happened?
Uh, no.
No.
Is the person that almost got abducted? Is she here?
She speak English?
Investigators work their way upstairs to chat directly with the victim.
Who's the victim? What happened to you?
Did anybody see it?
Who are your turn?
Okay. What happened?
And I saw her walking in.
So natural instinct to watch her.
And here?
No, she's walking from out there.
Okay.
So natural instinct to watch her walking.
So I look over the balcony to see her walking, and then I saw this car coming fast.
So when they come in, I see him run to the gate.
So in my mind, I'm thinking, oh, he lives here and he loves something.
So that's why he's running through the day.
Then I saw him grab her and started pulling her backwards to the car,
and he was trying to attempt to put her in to the front of the car.
But then she said, she said,
She's fighting.
Yeah.
Did you go down to help her?
No.
Could you identify the guy if you saw him?
Yes.
You saw his face?
Yeah.
How old are you?
I'm 11.
I'm going to say it's going to be given out.
What's the street?
What is the car?
It's right.
It's a great.
It's a great.
It's a great.
Okay.
Okay.
You know the model?
Maybe?
Um,
Okay.
It's a very fine.
A hundred.
It has a Cucan.
Okay. Are you mom? Who's mom? Your mom? Do you have your ID on you?
Do you have you recognized him? Have you seen him before? Does he live here?
Never seen the car down here? Okay. Okay.
Do you know maybe what year? No? The tie? The tie? The tie? The tie? The tag, the license plate. No?
What about the guy? She told.
Okay.
Oh, very skinny and have a tattoo.
His fear has a twist and we have a blue hat.
Do you recognize another tattoo like you can, like, say I have a tattoo?
No.
No.
Where do you have tattoos?
On his hands.
Left, right.
Okay.
So on the back point, he was turned.
Please wait to come in.
So it's this hand there.
Left.
It's right.
Yeah.
How did he grab you?
Um, so I will.
So I will...
You were just walking to this...
Yeah.
Okay.
At what point did he grab you?
Like, were you already in front of here, or were you out there?
Yeah, I was in front of the gate.
So did he get here first, or did she get here first?
Okay, so he followed her.
Okay.
So you got here first?
Yeah.
And at what point did he touch you?
Did you already grab, open the gate?
Where I mean, I was trying to, so he grabbed me from the front.
He grabbed me from my leg, kind of pushed me back.
So he was in front of you?
He got in front of you?
That's the first time he got you.
Yeah, okay, okay.
Do you have beer?
3.41, 3940, northwest 185, street,
21 year old man, has me.
Code inscription you have?
You know, a book inscription?
Okay, so it's a white t-shirt,
a blue shorts, and then, yeah, that's nothing to do it today.
Blue shorts?
Yeah.
And we have a blue hat on also.
Blue hat, okay.
When he left, do you know which right to anyone?
He went out there.
He went down.
He went up.
Yeah.
That's one piece.
Did he call that picture?
Is that picture?
He went that way.
That way.
And after.
He's asking if he was
one more time or that.
He was outside.
He was outside.
To one.
Okay.
And how long I roll with that?
So it's five, 14.
So I was going to get her screen.
We heard her screaming 4.
4.
4.30, 4.
You just heard her screaming.
Thank you.

Then the female officer pulls the young child aside.
Go over here.
I'm going to talk to you for a second, okay?
So play by play by play, okay?
Whatever you just told me, tell me.
again without anybody else cleaning there so I could tell the story because I'm going to write the report okay
all right so I was walking from on the sidewalk yeah close this up to us yeah okay
here it's running here to site you were walking this way yeah and then I turn around I see the
car part from the big by the picture over there where she was sticking at and then I saw the car
the part when you saw it it was parked or was driving it was parked oh it was parked it was parked by
the tree there in front of the complex
And I was trying to open the gate and then he zoomed fast.
He grabbed me by the front first and he pulled me backwards.
So when he grabbed you at the front, was he in front of you or was he behind you?
He's behind.
So look, do it to me.
I'm going to open the gate.
I'm going to go open my bag.
So he wrapped his own and one of my options on there, I was trying to take out my
So as I was trying to get out, take out, take out my backpack.
He wrapped his up, he's around in tight, and then he tried to put you from the driver's seat
and as I was kicking, yeah.
Was there anybody in the car?
No, it was.
He tried to put you in the driver's side?
Yeah.
So he actually, was your backpack on at that point?
Or did you take it off?
At my bagels.
Okay, so he pulled you into where the passenger seat would be?
No, no.
driver's seat.
And then...
The driver's seat?
Yeah.
And in the back?
Yeah.
So in the back of the driver?
In the front, like in the driver's seat, then he's the car
like this way.
Into the driver's seat?
Yeah.
And as, like, if he was yelling, I think he saw someone and then he just let me go.
And you never saw this guy before?
And then he, you know, I never saw him.
I don't know him.
I don't.
So at one point you were sitting in the car.
like sort of and then as i was thinking he just um let it roll somehow i don't know so were you laying
in this car out like i am like this like this and so he grabbed you from behind right yeah
and he kind of put you in like that so he tries putting you in here in house i didn't know you
trying to come like that so he tries putting you so he grabs you like this right and then he puts you
like like that so you would be at this point when you grab you like this your back is to him right
where you're from, I was like, can you try, like, slowly this girl?
I realized she first noticed the silver vehicle parked near her
school. So when she spotted that same vehicle again outside of her apartment complex,
she knew that something wasn't right.
And the car was perfecting, face that way, so his driver's store was on the side.
Before I came to the house, I saw him in front somewhere.
He's like a car window.
He's done to see the door before.
Yeah.
And then I didn't want to look stuff like...
To make it obvious.
It's just gold and stuff and it's...
But like you got like a weird chewing, right?
Yeah.
So I started walking a little bit.
I didn't see him.
As I was walking a little fast,
I turned around to see him.
And I see the car.
So at what point did he drive away?
I don't know.
Like, what point did he let go over here?
Did he notice somewhere?
I think he noticed someone.
And then he just ran out.
And then he just ran to his car and just down fast.
And then I just can't open the door without.
So you were in the car off the point?
Yeah.
the door closed? No, the door never closed.
No. But you were kicking and screaming?
Yeah.
You didn't see the guy, right?
No. She wanted me.
Okay. So, and then at that point,
and you what, maybe you turn?
I think so.
You just came running off the way.
How'd you open the gate?
The door, the gate was hoping. I just opened me and just came.
Okay.
All right, I'll be right back.
We'll go see what you're going to see for your cameras, okay?
That's one three five, high, zero, northeast, one-zero avenue.
I'm going to see if there's a color.
Okay.
Last thing, wearing a blue hat, white shirt, and blue shirt, and blue shorts.
The investigator canvases the nearby.
homes with the hopes a camera captured some of this incident or a possible glimpse of the suspect.
No.
Um, does anybody here speak English?
Uh, what happened?
Uh, do you, can you understand me?
Yeah.
A little bit.
Uh, do your cameras work?
No.
They don't work?
No.
Okay.
All right.
Yeah, no, over there.
Okay, baby.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Before heading out, the officer confirms some details with the eye.
witness. Do you know how tall you are? You know how tall you are? You know how
how tall you are? Yeah. How much do you with? How much do you like? You know what's up in the
street? 53. Um, victim's going to be a juvenile. She was walking into her.
complex at school she noticed this car a little weird that was parked facing north going
into her development so she kind of walks her walking a little faster and then the car kind of
piqued her to her apartment complex the neighbor ended up when she was on the balcony she heard like
screaming but until that point the girl goes and opens the urban complex gate because
are like a little gate that you had to open a door to get in and this guy gets out of the car
pulls his car up, grabs her from behind and basically drags her into the vehicle on the driver's side
front door and she's kicking and streaming at that point she said that he's time to saw someone
else come out and kind of she got out and he drove away and went away.
he grabs her from behind she he kind of places her in the vehicle but not in a sturdy position
the door doesn't shut because she he's kicking she's kicking um and at that point i think she says
that he thinks that maybe someone he heard her kicking and swimming that she jumped out of the vehicle
and at that point we remember downstairs um to get her and bring her up just to the second
So what point did you start seeing things?
Like, did you see him drag her into the car?
Is that.
So everything?
This is for me.
Hello?
Me.
Me.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
You have a template or not?
Okay.
You have a template or not?
Yeah.
I'll have a template.
I'll get my other one.
I'll do.
No problem.
Okay.
There's a black male, five, seven, and height.
He has a tattoo sleeve on his left arm.
Last being wearing a blue hat, white shirt, and blue shorts.
He was last seen each film on 1940, and the victim wasn't a 11-year-old.
Clear at 17.20.
Investigators secured surveillance footage of the silver sedan passing the victim prior to the attempted kidnapping.
the owner of the vehicle was tracked down, and two separate photo lineups positively identified the suspect as 30-year-old Matthew Ducatelier.
North Miami police detained him at his home.
Turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, turn.
What happened?
Relax. Relax. Relax.
What happened? What happened? What happened? What happened? What happened?
We got a detective I need to talk to you to station.
What are you?
Yep.
Maybe he's a kid?
Yeah, he's a talk.
You're Matthew, right?
What did I do?
That's my son.
That's fine.
That's fine.
You know, I want to know what I have.
So that's okay?
So that's okay?
All right, no problem.
Please, please.
What's the only time?
What's wrong with you?
What's wrong with you?
I'm trying to figure it up.
We just told you.
detective that's got to talk through distinction.
Duke Atelier was placed in an interview room where he waived his right to legal counsel,
according to the police report.
That's when he told investigators he didn't know why he did what he did.
He admitted to it.
But based on court records, we can only assume what he was planning.
Records show that Duke Atelier was just four months into a four-year probation stint for inappropriately
touching a 13-year-old girl inside a T.J. Max store last October, which is extremely
troubling given the fact that his molestation charge was dropped. He was only convicted of battery
and sentenced to supervised release until December of 2029. However, we will have to see what
happens to him for this recent incident. He faces one count of attempted kidnapping of a child
under the age of 13. Duke Atelier is currently in custody at the Miami Day Jail, awaiting his next
hearing without bond. His trial is now scheduled for March of 2026. So an incredibly disturbing
case, but thank goodness that 11-year-old girl was able to get away from him. So stay tuned.
We'll let you know what happens. I'm Ann Janette Levy. Thanks so much for being with me for this
episode of Crime Fix. I'll see you back here next time.
