Starting point is 00:01:42 Mindy Cosodas had a family who loved her, and in May of 2023, they learned that she had been murdered, and her husband Nicholas Cosodas was arrested and charged with murdering her. Hunters had discovered Mindy's headless body months earlier, nearly six months earlier, to be exact. It was December 2nd of 2022 when a group of men hunting deer made the gruesome discovery in Liberty County, Georgia. It was a woman's headless body. I'm pretty sure they'll want to talk to you. But we'll let y'all know the final result. All right. Thank you all so much. Y'all be careful. Yes, sir. Yeah, I'm going to back up.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Hey, do you want to come second? No, I can back up while you can pass me. Okay. All right, tenfold. You guys going this way or that way? You can come this way. You can come this way. You can come this way.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Yes, sir, buddy. Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! No. Yeah, go ahead and I'll put it up, starting at one of those trees down past it. Probably, I will say, 20 yards and come back this way.
Starting point is 00:04:19 y'all be careful appreciate it but at the time this video was recorded by body-worn cameras in riceborough georgia on the grounds of a hunting club deputies knew they had a crime scene on their hands nice time so drink show me on scene hey martin if i was you i don't bring it this way i wouldn't i want to carry it straight across bang it here so kind of at an angle and then you ain't got to go down that ditching all either yeah i'm trying to avoid crossing over yeah just tied off to that one and then we'll take it from there down the my patrol car one of the trees oh one of the trees will be fine just in case you've been taking care of our boy man listen martin martin said he do not want to come back over there to y'all oh tied up here martin oh shit yeah now
Starting point is 00:05:13 this is a heavy situation a woman is dead and her head is missing and there are body parts strewn about This is no doubt a homicide investigation. A detective arrives to photograph the scene. Martin, we're going to get you some putting up crime scene tape classes. We're going to get you some classes. Don't worry. See, he did a wonderful job. How did these guys find this thing? So they was back here hunting. They had just killed a deer that was over here.
Starting point is 00:05:42 And when, I guess, yeah, they got the deer. Why they was out here, you know, getting the deer. obviously they just happen to look over there and saw it let me get a bunch of pictures okay yeah yeah yeah I'm gonna leave okay okay okay okay okay okay yeah thank you mark okay okay yeah that's fine thank you mark all right all right all right dango martin this is going to be this is going to sound crazy but I know they filmed down there a lot
Starting point is 00:06:39 think it's a fake well it looks like there's been animal stuff around it I didn't know if it was fake or dummy but I see hair body hair. Yeah. Yeah, when I saw that body hair on the, I don't know, but it looked like a female almost. It does. It doesn't like female. Just because the way the tics have caught. The body is definitely
Starting point is 00:07:01 real. The Liberty County Sheriff's deputies decide this is above their skill level and that they'll need extra help. Anybody that was here on scene. Yeah. Call them back. Let's get them down here and let me get written statements from them and I'll have to try to talk to him in a minute. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And then we're going to back up down here away from this area. All right. Which is going to call GBI? I would say so. Yeah. I don't know if it's missing ahead because of animal activity. Yeah. Or if it was gone already.
Starting point is 00:07:37 That's going to take some DNA to identify. Yep. Well, I can get fingerprints. And they went to the hunting club down here. Hey. Hey. Go figure they want to answer. Dan, this Abjee, stop calling.
Starting point is 00:07:54 I'm trying busy, man. Damn. Man. Man. Yeah. Nobody says anything you can find yet. You know what we've got down here, I mean. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:04 It might be somebody wondered off. It's mentally ill, but if they purposely decapitated. 963-6. Hey. Go ahead. Go ahead. Hey, go stop that white truck and have them come back. All the ones that was in those trucks that was hunting make them come back, please.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Hello. Hey, buddy. Yes. Yeah, the detective, can y'all come back down here right quick? I just saw y'all pass by. Pass by? I mean, we're up here at the clubhouse, but if you need us all, you need all of us back down there? Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:08:38 He's going to talk to y'all right quick, and then he's going to release y'all. Temple. All right. I'll round up as many of them as can. I don't see any special time. Sounds good. All right. Bye.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Bye. All right. All right. Nathan to come back. I don't need everybody. I've got, if they don't have statement forms, I should have some in my truck. But if this is your ride, you want to turn around and get your ride back there by mine so that you can have a way out. Nobody else is coming back out this way, right?
Starting point is 00:09:09 Nope. All right. Well, I'm just thinking about if you've got another call, if something that breaks, Correct. Because this is going to take a while. Yeah, correct. So if you want to just keep the crime scene law going. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:19 And we'll push it back. Okay. Now, you, so you want to bring your car down? No, I'm going to leave my car back there. Okay. And you want my car to be moved to? I'm just thinking about you getting out there if you need to. Yeah, I'm going to take that crime scene.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Take that back up? You can. Yeah, temple. Meanwhile, the hunters are at the end of the road talking to another deputy. They're ready to describe what they found and how they found it. Hey, y'all know more about the stuff than we do. How old you're in that thing's been there? That's going to be up to detectives and stuff.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I just curious, I mean, we've been down here every week for and the gates is locked very week. So who's actually got a key down locked the gate? So who's actually got a key down locked the gate? All of us, good. Okay. Okay. We try to lock them, but we're saying there,
Starting point is 00:10:11 We'll send their key sloping around over the years and people got out and here and now. We shut them, we try to lock them all on Sunday morning. The ones that stay Saturday morning. Lock them on their way home Sunday morning, but... Hey, Mark, you got a football come. Yeah. Hey, go. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Well, David and I want to know, can we keep all the hood? I don't want somebody. You said, can we what now? Keep our, keep the hunting club name out. Oh, yeah, we ain't putting that in there. Right, right, right. I won't never do y'all like that, buddy. Listen, so this is what he wants done from y'all, all right?
Starting point is 00:11:06 It's pretty much a voluntary statement saying, hey, this is where I was and this is what I saw. I saw. That's all you need to do. Your name, date, time going the top of, and that's it. Y'all can be gone. The hunters are asked to write statements. As they were calling it out, I pulled the kind of looked at what it was. When we get on seeing, we're trying to figure out everything. Get crime scenes, take, talk to them, get there, and everybody wants you to call them. Like, no, just fucking wait. Calm down. I'll let you check over all this stuff. Thank you. Mm-hmm. All right, hold on just a second. Alright, so, it's just the, yeah, fill out the bottom for me.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Today's the second, or the time is 527. That class is fun. Oh. I mean, I'll witness it, just need your signature. I mean, I'll witness it, just need your signature. 5 foot. Blackmail. So.
Starting point is 00:12:30 You're wearing a red shirt. That's B-R-A-N-N-N. Yes, sir. All right. All right All right I was hunting on that stand I was hunting on that stand and killed a deer
Starting point is 00:13:00 I was walking down and ready to get it and that's when I thought I saw a dead hog Yep And then I saw it And then it's one page. I ain't got my glasses. Oh, here. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:14 You got to have to. Except for the weapons part. Can you... Can you... Friday, Saturday, until Sunday morning. Usually we come in Thursday afternoon. Y'all, you haven't been down this room last week up? Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Hey, sir. So what I'm going to have you do is just follow out a written statement. Just felt the time, place. And then down here just followed this. He wasn't down there. He just pulled up right there. We're going back to the clubhouse and we've been hunting right here. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Yeah, he hasn't been here. Okay. Yeah, he hasn't seen it. I'd like to see her. Who is? Can't tell. I ain't got no head. The head's gone?
Starting point is 00:14:15 Gone. It's got a sharp. Something very sharp. It's been a week. I ain't nobody I know. Are you all missing? That's what I can't. I can't even think anybody's been having me from the person.
Starting point is 00:14:27 So at this point, officers are still on scene. Statements are being taken. The body is still lying in the ditch. But as it's still. starts to get darker, deputies know. They have a small window to find any evidence left behind. So they begin scanning the area for anything that could be connected. And not far from the entrance to the property, they noticed something else on the ground. Go ahead. Yeah. Forty-six, sir.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Go ahead. They went down here by us by the gate. There was a nice line right at the tree line. I'm not sure it's as well. Just stand by. Tenfold. Stand by with it. If he needs to, you can push it out, father. Are you still down near the entrance here? Get over here. Oh, sorry.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Yeah. 10.4. It's right down here at the entrance. 10.4. If you need to push that crime scene tape out, you can push it out. Go ahead and do it. Is anybody called the corner? No. Not yet.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Now this isn't a sudden turn. It's a confirmation of what deputies are already thinking. A body left in pieces, clean cuts, and now a knife. found near the only way in or out. No one is saying yet that this knife is the weapon, but it's enough to immediately change how this scene is handled, because from this point on, everything expands with the knife identified. Deputies begin pushing the perimeter back from the road to the tree line, to the edge of the property itself. The priority is to seal and protect anything that could be evidence. And as they do that, a detective arrives to get a
Starting point is 00:16:33 firsthand look and what he sees confirms an absolute nightmare. This was something far more gruesome and calculated. Thanksgiving. Yeah. Yeah. It's real. Very real. Yeah. It appears that the leg and stuff had been cut off. 6366. Did y'all push your tape out past that object? 10 4. I'm going to do that now. 10.4. All right. What about the form?
Starting point is 00:17:10 They were waiting on me to get here, but that's fine. I mean, it's not, the only thing, the only thing we're losing is light. All right. Well, I've got, I've got a bunch of pictures, but around the legs right here, the skin looks like it's cut. and like a clean pretty much clean open cut all right well I got the hunters here that found it they shot a deer and it was in the ditch right next to on the other side of the road from it and they were loading up that and somebody looked over there and said oh Jesus go ahead and contact corner yeah I need
Starting point is 00:17:54 they're getting the statements from them on body cam and they're writing it down they're doing written statements for me All right, man. Thank you. You heard the detectives say there, clean cut, meaning a sharp blade, like the one just found in the tree line. The detective pieces together the hunter's story. They were retrieving a deer when one of them glanced across the road and saw what he thought was a dead hog. It was a moment of pure, awful chance. But now for investigators, they need to identify this woman.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Do you have any marks or anything, or she's been fingerprinted? All right, because I'd be able to get fingerpins. She's in a bitch, but please keep this on the deal and law enforcement. All right, all right. There's nothing. If she called this morning, it's not her. This has probably been five days at least. Maybe, maybe less.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Maybe less, maybe more, depends because it's water and it's cold and stuff. Five days, maybe more. So investigators begin putting a theory together of what may have happened to this woman. We got a good mark on that knife down there. There's no one to touch it. I just want to make sure. I haven't been down there just besides me telling them the push to the tape back. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:19:18 To encompass that? Oh. To enclose the... Yeah, correct. To enclose the knife on them. If she was... My theory would be if she was cut, they could have done it at the LaCont place and dumped the body. There's big ditches over there.
Starting point is 00:19:38 There's like that little water area, waterfowl area. And honestly, if they did this five or seven days ago, that ditch probably would have been full. As well now, it appears to be a white female. Now, I can give them a little more. more detail since it's chief? Oh, absolutely. Okay, okay. Just make sure I had to ask for us, but chief, the, the head is missing on it and the legs
Starting point is 00:20:06 is missing on it as well. There's animal activity, but it does not appear. There's animal activity, but it don't appear that that's what, you know, severed the head and the legs and stuff. It looks like the skin's cut clean. It looks like the skin is cut clean, he said. Also, while they was up there doing statements from the people at the head of the road where this hunting club is. They've located a knife also. Not sure if it's involved in this or not,
Starting point is 00:20:31 but we went ahead and put crying scene tape up so that we can, you know, get included in the evidence as well. So, Detective Frost notified his supervisor and is trying to get her to call the GBI in. I'm not sure if she's did that or not yet. Let me ask him. She said she wanted to wait until she got on the scene. You got a fingerprint machine, don't you? uh they can so if the corner well this is the thing so if the corner doesn't have it i know we've got a i want to say richmond hills got the fingerbread machine too they've got a iaphas live scan but what i what you have to do is what to roll the fingers yeah we've got the post-mortem kit to be able to do that's just basically it's just a stiff metal back
Starting point is 00:21:18 and to hold the finger while you roll it to the skin slippage and stuff yeah um but you know this is going to be something where once the body's pulled out, you're going to want to look for trace and stuff. And luckily it's not raining or anything, but you've got a lot of animal activity around it. But it's something that you know, you can't go back and collect what you didn't collect now. That's right. That's right. You're right about that. That's why it's best to call the GBI in. Because they can bring, they can come out here. They can set up all their little lamps that they got lighted up. As it gets darker and darker, deputies gather formal statements from every Hunter on the property with one deputy reading back a man's account confirming the gruesome discovery
Starting point is 00:22:01 in his own words okay two club members said they have found a body we decided to check it out and We did and found a nude body. Nude body female. I'm just going to kind of, he said two club members said that they had found a body. We decided to check out the scene at about five o'clock. We did and found a nude body female decapitation. And then who was the other gentleman that pulled up there with you? Gerald, I...
Starting point is 00:23:04 Yeah, I'm just going to hold on to this right now, but, Gerald, if I can, I just need you to follow at the top here. And then also a statement of what you've seen or observed, okay? It took some time, but the FBI identified the remains found in the wood. in May of 2023 as Mindy Cosodas's. The next day, Nicholas Cosodas was arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with a long list of felonies, including Malice Murder. Mindy's family wrote on a GoFundMe. We learned just a week ago yesterday that Mindy Mabain Cosotis, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend was heinously murdered. She was an unidentified Jane Doe for over five months. Thankfully, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations with help from the FBI, Liberty County Sheriff's Office,
Starting point is 00:23:54 others, worked relentlessly on her case and were able to identify her remains last week. Her husband, Nick Cosodas, has been arrested in Pennsylvania for her murder and will soon be extradited back to Georgia to answer for this crime. The coroner's office is ready to release her body, but we were told a funeral home has to be involved, and there are other complications with this. We know without a doubt that Mindy is in heaven. Thank you to everyone for your prayers, your kind thoughts, memories and pictures, Mindy rest in peace, you will not be forgotten. Cosotis's trial began in the summer of 2025. His defense? A man named Jim McIntyre had been stalking him and Mindy, so they had to move constantly and he was the real killer. Prosecutors said
Starting point is 00:24:40 Cosodas didn't want to pay a $1.5 million divorce settlement to his first wife. Nicholas Cosodas was a former Navy Jag officer, but he didn't choose to defend himself. One of the hunters testified at the trial you recognize this photograph has previously been admitted into evidence yes sir it states exhibit 2.1 what is that that's the torso that we found in the ditch and what did you do after this was discovered you personally I stayed there until the law arrived and when the law arrived I was escorted to the heads of the road for questioning and later did you touch the torso no sir
Starting point is 00:25:21 anyone in your presence touched the porcens. No, sir. And you stay there until the law enforcement people arrived. Yes, sir. Cosotis' defense fell flat at the trial. The jury just didn't buy it. Count one, malice murder, guilty. Count two, felony murder, guilty.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Count three, aggravated assault, guilty. Count four, concealing death. of another guilty. Count five, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, guilty.
