Police officers take an oath to protect and serve, but sometimes they can cross the line and end up on the wrong side of the law. That happened to Tom's River police officer Rebecca Syagg last year. Syag was actually an award-winning police officer in Tom's River, New Jersey. In 2022, she was given a Class B award for going into a home that was on fire and getting the homeowner and her pets out safely. That's a big accomplishment.
Starting point is 00:02:02 But on April 25, 2025, Syagg found herself in big, big, big, trouble, big trouble. Police in Berkeley Township, New Jersey got a call from a homeowner that Syag had had broken into her ex-boyfriend's home. Dude, where is she? Turn, that needs to be on. Yeah, she's upstairs throwing a tantrum. Okay. Is she broken? I go in this way? The man you heard saying she's upstairs throwing a tantrum is Syag's ex-boyfriend. The video is blurry. It's redacted when the officer's body-worn camera shows the inside of the home or the victims. Now let's get back to the video. Rebecca, Rebecca.
Starting point is 00:02:38 I'm not doing this right now. You are, Rebecca, stop. No, I'm getting all my shit. I got you, but stop for a second. No, I'm getting all myself. Rebecca, stop for a second. This is fucking ridiculous, Kyle. It's full of clothes here.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I have all my important shit here. And he wants to sit here and have a random random person here with all my belongings, thinking that what, she's going to be the new parent to my dog, said that she's going to move in. All right, we're gonna stop screaming now. You want to see? All my stuff.
Starting point is 00:03:23 All my stuff. My stuff. My stuff. My stuff. Rebecca. I don't care. I need my phone. I'm calling my PBA, Red.
Starting point is 00:03:35 All right? This is the problem here. You're not going to. Stay up here. Rebecca. Rebecca. No, you're not. Rebecca.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Rebecca. Stop. I'm going to my car. Stop. She's walking up front. She's not leaving. She's not leaving. She's grab her phone. That's so much. Yeah, it's so much. Rebecca. Rebecca, come on, stay out here for a minute.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Do me, do me a solid here and just stop making it. I'm calling my brother. I mean, just stop making this is harder than it's got to do. You need to come here right now. Because I just snapped. Well, I just smashed this front door in. So right there, award-winning Tom's River Police Officer, Rebecca Syag, makes a major admission. She smashed
Starting point is 00:04:54 in the front door of her ex-boyfriend's home. She literally admits to a crime or two, burglary and criminal mischief. And don't think the officer who appears to know Syagg didn't hear it. Smashed the front door. Oh, she's right here. I'm not a problem. If he was in a liar and didn't have all my belongings in here and like, oh, we wouldn't have a problem. I'm calling my mother right now. I don't care. You're under a, for what, criminal mischief? Yeah. And breaking So criminal mischief isn't an in-arrestable offense. Rebecca. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:05:37 First of all. Rebecca, stop. Please stop. You're making this loud of hard. It's got to be. Rebecca. No, we're going to go when I get all my shit. No, we're...
Starting point is 00:05:54 You know better than this. Okay, well, I'm calling my PBA. You know there's no... Rebecca, stand here. No, I'm getting my... What? Okay, give me a second. We're not going to give you a...
Starting point is 00:06:07 Yes, you are. I'm calling my PBA right. I don't give a shit. What are you? Are you fucking kidding me? Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? Stop resisting.
Starting point is 00:06:21 I am not resisting. You just take up and grab my neck. Get off of me. Can't grab your neck. Yes, he did. Grab your arm. Take it. Kyle?
Starting point is 00:06:31 Just take your deep breath, stop. I'm fine. I was just calling my PBA rat. Give me my phone so I can call my mother. You can call her at the station. No, you could give me my phone now. Grab DV pay for her. Yep.
Starting point is 00:06:48 I want my dog. I want my dog. Kyle, I want my fucking dog. Kyle, remove yourself. All right. Rebecca to stop. Be smart. I said remove myself. I don't know what that means, but. You can't burn your house down next.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Jesus. Rebecca, stop talking. Stop talking. Please stop talking. Are we need the paper again? Is anyone to meet me back to the station? Kyle, go. I'll meet you the station.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Now let's take a look at this, from another officer's body-worn camera. You are going to see the damage that Syag caused. She's breaking stuff. I get it. I know the sensitivity of this, but she's got to come out of my house. I just,
Starting point is 00:08:10 what'd she break? Front door. She broke the door. She took up a time. Oh, right there with Kyle. All right. Yes. She's on her.
Starting point is 00:08:32 And she was a, fire and didn't have all my love. We were in a row. Okay, I'm gonna rest of little things. Hold on, I'm cold. First well. Come back, stop. You're making this not right.
Starting point is 00:08:51 It's gotta be. Come back. No, we're gonna go when I get all my . Okay, well, I'm calling my TV. You know, I'm getting my . Okay, give me a second. We're not gonna give you a second. Yes, you are.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I'm calling my KBA. I don't give a . Are you kidding me? Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. You just care.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Yes, he did. Grab your mind. Just take it easy. Kyle? Meg, just take your breath up. I'm fine. I was just calling my PBA rat. Can call my mother.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Can you call her at the station. No, you can be my phone now. Grab D.B. Pay for her. Down next. Yikes. So Rebecca Sayag threatened to burn her ex's house down. And he told the cops that she actually hasn't lived there for more than two years. And she really, really wants her dog back.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Grab my car. Oh, at least my hair's nice, too. Uh, take your own. Alright, someone else want to grab this paperwork? Yeah. Is anyone to meet me back to the station? I'll see if there's anything else. I'll see if there's anything else.
Starting point is 00:10:52 All right, so I'm patrolling all of it, so I don't think we ever met. But I got your phone. Is there anything else you need? Um, I need someone to remove my car from this place. And with my car, I need my car. my dog and probably the best person to call is my brother or my sister. Okay. I'm just going to transport you. My mom might be able to take my dog, but I tried calling her, but that's when Brian decided
Starting point is 00:11:24 to manhandle me when I decided to try to call my mom. When we get down to the police station, right? Yep, that's fine. All right. All right. Try to make this. Sayag is eventually taking me a call. Sayeg is eventually taken to the Berkeley Township Police Department.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Let me just tell him real quick and then I'll... Sarge. Tannis. She has to go to the bathroom again. What do you want to back up, sir? This way, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:12 First door past the elevator. Good. Do they keep the door? Yeah. Do you go to the hospital? Can we just make sure like my supervisors are there? Uh, yeah, we can, uh, we can let them now. Yeah, that's right my hand too.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Yeah. Looks good you're going to go. Oh, wow. Yeah. That's from my head too, but I'm not going to sit here and be a fucking . Yeah, there's no code for this one. Yeah, I'm so used to like it. It's only to exit.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Yeah, you have to pick up. So the police are preparing to take Rebecca Syagg to the hospital to have her hand checked out, but she wants the police to call her mom. The last time I checked it was, hi, sorry to bother you again. So Rebecca is going to be going to the hospital. She just wanted me to let you know. So you're not going to have to come figure out we're going to be taking her. Well, she injured her hand, and she just requested to go there just to go speak with someone.
Starting point is 00:16:25 So we're going to take her there just so she can be evaluated. And then she'll be able to get in contact with you from the hospital. But you don't have to worry about coming and get her tonight. It's the officer that drove you before. Anthony Seggley. Oh, I apologize. Yeah, this is our dispatch. This is our dispatch phone. Or our, like our headquarters phone. Yeah. Okay. Yes. You want to see if she could bring your clothes?
Starting point is 00:17:12 Rebecca's asking if you could bring her a pink bag that's in her passenger seat. She said she saw it. She just said she was going to need clean clothes and stuff like that. She was just requesting the back. If you could bring it, that would be great. That was what she was asking. She said, she said, she said, she said, she said, she said you could wait till the morning. She's okay. Yeah, yeah, she wants to go speak to someone and then, you know, she heard her hand as well. So, I would also like you to know that she is sorry.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Okay. I will relay the message. But yeah, I just wanted to give you a heads up. So you can, you know, you can hang tight. We're going to be taking her there. She's going to be all right. You are very welcome. Take care.
Starting point is 00:19:04 She just ends the conversation for another time. She's not nigh at you. She said she understands, you know, what you're going through. At some point, Rebecca Syag returns to the police department, and much of the video inside the police department is also blurred. At one point, it appears that Syag is talking to her mom on the phone, but you only hear Syag's end of the conversation. So what?
Starting point is 00:20:32 I don't go into the calendar. No, mom, I cannot go in there. Or less, I have to go in there and get both. going there tonight? Police still? No, no, Mom, I can't do this. I can't do this. Now, I don't think anyone ever, ever wants to go to jail,
Starting point is 00:21:19 and I can tell you that Rebecca Syag, as a police officer, definitely does not want to. Now listen to this part. So I guess I'm not going there tonight? What does your house say? So there's a chance that I can still leave tonight? There's no judges in right now, anywhere? Anywhere? I'm very suspicious about this.
Starting point is 00:23:13 I'm very suspicious on how do they even know of at your house? I cannot do this. I'm freaking my dude. Mom, this is so back door. I don't know how many of them's numbers. But I just want to know what to expect. It appears that Syagg is worse. that she might not make a planned flight.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Did you all that? If I was to get movies, this was the stuff she said about. Like, I don't know why they can't just do this when I get that. I just don't know what's going on there. Like, how would be nice to see someone, yeah, which is the worst. That I'm not eating at food.
Starting point is 00:26:39 I will starve myself. I'm not putting that food. And I just briefly, you will turn back to me, un-h-h-h-ish. I know it would still I cannot go in that place. The reality of what's happening is really starting to set in for Rebecca Syag. She's a police officer, but likely not for long. And again, she is really worried about going to jail.
Starting point is 00:27:12 The lieutenant spoke to you already, right? About what any, no, no, I know. What's his last thing? Thomas. All right. So you told you he spoke with OCJ already on it? Yeah. And my attorney is.
Starting point is 00:27:30 contact it and then someone else has been into the past year. Okay. I just want to show you that we didn't add any charges. We just haven't put it up. I just want to show you that nothing was added to it. It's all the same stuff that you have before. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:49 And like I said, they already made phone calls they had to be. Is there a way I could be like a separate way there? They'll probably take it through the one best of you all. Just like hidden? Maybe. No, we'll have to talk to them, I guess. Yeah. You can do that.
Starting point is 00:28:02 Just grab whoever brings her out and just let her know. I think they said to bring you right to the infirmary anyway. Okay. I don't know where that is in there. I've never really been in there before. You'll just be subluded. Like, you won't be with the general people. You'll just be kind of like the hospital area and the jail.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Okay. So, did your mother have contact with any of those guys over there today? Yeah. I would tell her if she has any questions just to reach out for them. Yeah. And then, you know, I mean, She can call us if she needs anything, but like I said, don't call like Kenny and then if you have questions, but you knew that. Because the prosecutor's office is kind of running with that now.
Starting point is 00:28:44 So it's- Rebecca Syagg talks to her mom one last time before she prepares to be taken to jail. When you go, they're waiting for me. Um, just my ring. We got it. I got in the bag for you, all right? Yeah. Step out of here, please.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Try to cut in the front. This is so scary. It's a little tight. It's, you sure? Yeah. You got a point in. Okay, I can deal. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Yeah, I just have small wrists. Okay. I'll listen a little if you want. It's fine. I sure. Yeah. I lost another one. All right, Rebecca, just step back here, please.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Sitting there. I'm going to go around the other side, buckle you up. And four beds. Rebecca Syag. was booked into the jail but released. The Ocean County prosecutor said that was because of New Jersey's bail reform measures. In November 2025, Syagg pleaded guilty to all of the charges, burglary, criminal mischief and simple assault. The one-time promising police officer will never be able to work as a police officer in New Jersey again. Prosecutors want her to spend 180 days in jail
Starting point is 00:31:32 and they'll ask for restitution. Rebecca Syagg will be sentenced later this month. So stay tuned for that. We'll keep you posted on what happens. And that's it for this episode of Crime Fix. I'm Ann Jeanette Levy. Thanks so much for being with me. Remember, you can watch us here on YouTube, but also catch us on Spotify,
