Don't try anything to do that. A convicted sex offender is back in handcuffs weeks after being released from prison early in Ohio. Now he's accused of kidnapping a woman. That 911 call placed by the woman, Triplett, is accused of abducting. I have the body-worn camera footage of his arrest and more on why this isn't triplets first time behind bars. Welcome to Crime Fix. I'm Ann Jeanette Levy. This is a sorted and scary story out of Ohio involving a convicted sex offender and an alleged abduction at knife point along with threats of murder.
Starting point is 00:00:57 The case comes out of Stark County, Ohio. That's where the city. of Canton is located the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The sex offender is this man, Jamie Triplett. Back on September 17th, Triplett was out on probation after serving time for rape and kidnapping. He's 31 years old. And get this, Triplett was actually released from prison years early. He was on probation at the time of this incident last month. Here's the first 911 call placed on September 17th. Jackson, Township, please. Hi, I would like to follow reports. A man just threatened to kill me, kill my family.
Starting point is 00:01:35 He's going to come to my house tonight and kill my woman. How does he threaten you? Did he threaten you via text message or over the phone? He had a phone call, via phone call, and he has messages. Who is this name? His name is Jamie Triplett. I've called about him a handful of times already. Now he is threatening to kill me and come over to my house.
Starting point is 00:01:54 He said, you will put me in jail the night. And then I called him because I was like, why are you saying you're going to come over here and harden my family. He said, I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill your family. I'm going to kill your son. I'm going to kill all of you. And I'm done. He comes over here. I'm going to have to defend myself. What is your, so this was all phone call. There's no text messages. I have text messages of what he has said. But I had, I just got out the phone with him telling he was going to kill me and kill my family. Whoa, that was pretty intense. The man on the call said that Jamie Triplett was making threats. And he went on to tell the 911 call taker that his partner had at one time
Starting point is 00:02:31 been involved romantically with Jamie Triplett. But it sounds like that should have been a long time ago since Triplett has been in prison since 2012. Jackson Township, please. There's a man with a knife, Jamie Triplett. He has a knife. And he's threatening to kill my partner right now. He has a knife. Run. Is he there? What's your address? Where? Roadway motel. Where? Roadway motel. You're at the roadway. Yes. All right, what room number at the roadway? Kayla, don't you think of the car.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Do not let her get in the car. Absolutely not. He's in the car. She's taking off. He's taking off right now. So female got in the car with him? Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:11 They're going down Sunset Boulevard right now. Okay. And this is your partner? What's her name? Around the same time, the woman the man is calling about calls 911, but the call quickly disconnects because she is screaming. The incident The incident report states that Jamie Triplett
Starting point is 00:03:35 tossed the woman's phone out of the car window and it appears there are two 911 call centers involved in this. Jackson, police. It's the county. I had a female screaming on the phone, disconnected, a shortage going south on to Strip Avenue. onto the strip.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Give me one second. Who's it registered to? 9-3. It'll be a gray Hyundai sedan. It's registered to who? Okay. It might be something you guys are already on. One trip out.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah. I'll start off with one record. Other people said they called tripway. I'm going to go find out an NEPA. Probably one record right now. Yeah, it sounds like a struggle. The number was... Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:04:19 You said it's what area? Is it in the area there's roadway in? Uh, yeah, uh, well, it's on Strip Avenue is where I had it, uh, going south on Strip Avenue. Are you still following them? I don't know where they are. I lost them. I don't know. I wasn't able to keep up with them. I don't know where they are.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Jamie has an iPhone. Jamie has an iPhone. If you can pull his signal off of that, I can give you his phone number. Okay, hold on one second. Okay, I'll pass it along. Are you, did you want to come in and speak to an officer? I had my autistic thumb with me. He's nonverbal and he'll be low. I can, I can speak with somebody at my house. I don't know what else to do. I can give you a, do you have his phone number to pull up his, ping his location from that?
Starting point is 00:06:00 Okay, so we, I don't have his phone number, but hold on. Did she willingly get in the vehicle with him, or did he force her in the vehicle? It was more of a forcing than a willingness. And then the man calls 911 again. He's very frustrated and scared and clearly wants to help police find his girlfriend because he believes that she's in danger. Okay. Well, when you get home, can you let us know so I can send him?
Starting point is 00:06:23 an officer out to speak with you so we can get a more of an understanding of exactly what's going on. Can I give you a phone number to try and ping his location? We can't just randomly ping phones. There has to be a certain situation for them to allow us to ping a phone. It's a certain situation. He hijacked your car. Right. We don't, okay, so we don't have, you need to speak to an officer so we can get more information.
Starting point is 00:06:43 You left Jackson. Go ahead. Correct. The caller stated as the DNC took off. Just right before I showed up. in the state before you're ready. Hold on one second. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:57 You can give me my case number, please. Chase, I need you to head home to speak to an officer, okay? So you guys don't think this is serious enough? I can't take a phone number from you and ping it. It has to be an order from an officer, not from you. That's why you need to go speak to an officer. 53514. I will be home.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Can you please tell them to meet me in my house? Okay. Okay, when you get home, give me a call, let me know you're there, okay? I'm going to be there in less than five minutes. Okay, I'll let them know. All of this sounds really, really scary. Jamie Triplett is a tier three sex offender and he's just gotten into a woman's car with a knife and forced her to drive somewhere. An endangered adult alert was issued for Triplett and the missing woman in the gray car.
Starting point is 00:07:43 The next morning, Jackson Township Police found the woman at the Perry Inn with Triplett. Body-worn camera video shows an officer arriving and getting the back of the car. his cruiser ready to load triplet into it. He's in the room with other officers who have triplet in handcuffs sitting on a bed. Do you want to work? You want two handcuffs on? Yeah, please. Spend down a little bit.
Starting point is 00:08:42 This one's a little smaller. This one is a little smaller. This one ain't going to work. Yes. Here, kick that one out of my pocket seat there. It is. You still hit 10 things? Yeah, yeah. Do you need to double lock?
Starting point is 00:09:31 Is there anything in here? You have nothing in here? No. All right, I'm going to pat you down. Spread your legs. Bend down a little bit. What? What?
Starting point is 00:10:16 What? You don't have a wallet or anything like that? Nothing, sir. You don't even have a phone? Nothing. All right, cool. So going back to this vehicle, so you know everything recorded back there, okay? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Okay. Now I told you Now I told you earlier, this isn't Jamie Triplett's first rodeo. He knows the drill. He's done prison time for rape and kidnapping and somewhat shockingly, was released early. Court records show that a judge granted Triplett early release on February 18th of this year. On February 24th, the judge ordered that Triplett spent five years on probation.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Then on May 28th, a probation holder was placed on Triplett with a motion to revoke or modify the former order's terms filed. On June 30th, Triplett's case was transferred to another judge. On July 2nd, a hearing was held. A week later, the judge ordered Triplett held for 90 days in the Stark County Jail with credit for the time he'd served since May 27th. The judge also ordered that he be re-interviewed by the re-entry program, which helps ex-cons become a part of the community again after serving time. In August, after that 90 days was up, Triplett was released from the county jail. Then on September 19th, a county probation hold was issued, because of the alleged kidnapping in Jackson Township. Triplett's 2012 case had him originally sentenced to 20 years for kidnapping and rape. What Triplett was convicted of doing in 2012 is pretty horrific. Court documents say that he raped and beat a woman that he knew leaving her with bruises and cuts and scrapes. The woman testified that Triplett became angry when she broke his gold chain when they were fighting and insisted that she pay for it.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Triplett then hit the woman who weighed 110 pounds with a stick, dragged her across a parking lot, and chained her to a bumper. The woman testified that Triplett held her against her will and raped her more than once. In the current case, there are allegations of kidnapping, theft of a car and robbery for stealing the car. He was taken into custody the morning after he's accused of abducting that woman. Good. Good. Hey, before we pull off, can you tell her, I think her keys are in that core, that blue core over there?
Starting point is 00:13:42 What's that? or her car is in that man's car over there? What man's car? The guy that come to pick me up in that blue key over there. Just tell her Mr. C. All right. I think the key is in the car's in there. That blue car over there?
Starting point is 00:14:03 Yes, sir. Then the officer and Jamie Triplett leave for the police department. So what is I thought I'm being arrested right here for, sir? I'm not the one to talk to you, man. I've no clue. You're just transporting me? Transport. They're rolling for less than a minute,
Starting point is 00:14:21 and then Triplett has a complaint. You got this cuff on kind of tight, buddy. You're not supposed to be comfortable. I understand that, but you ain't had to tighten up where I can't feel my... I'm not sure there was many scuba, though, fans, a tall body cam, you're fine. I'm not trying to say that you didn't do your job. I'm saying, sir, it's...
Starting point is 00:14:45 Fairly tight. Well, when we get back here, I'm not trying to give you a hassle. I'm not trying to give you a hassle. Where are you taking me, Jackson? No, I'll be able to tell me my charges here? here? He just said it right now.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Destructing official business, something. He's trying to call and put some more shit on me. Eventually, the officer arrives at the police department with Jamie Triplett. Yeah, I was going to do it was good. Triplett is then walked into the police department. At one point, they start blurring the video because it's showing the inside of the police department. Triplett is asked some questions about his name and whether he has a wallet, but then He has some questions.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Back to it over to the book as well, please. It's just a criminal history. It's just paperwork. It shows like your previous charges. It shows, like, we have to run a, what's called a CCH to, like, a criminal history search. That way, I just have all the information back here so I could start doing stuff.
Starting point is 00:16:28 I don't know. I told you, man, I'm just a transporting officer. I don't know what all they're, what they're, you know what I'm saying. Eventually, the officer can tell Triplett about the charges that he's going to be facing. So I received a message from my boss. We're going to be charged me with kidnapping, robbery, theft, motor vehicle, and disrupting public service. So there's four charges. Again, those are charge, we already talked about it.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Those are charges, not convictions. So that's what's going to be sent down. That's what's going to be on your sieges. But what ends up happening from there is up to the work, up to you, and obviously up to the victim on some of those. I told you before, and I'm going to say it again, don't contact her. It's not going to look good if you call her, okay?
Starting point is 00:17:26 And I told her not to contact you. Okay? So, and I can explain them if you want. If you have a specific question, I'll explain. What is the robbery? The robbery is because of the car, technically because there was a knife or believed a knife involved. It's a theft of the motor vehicle by force or threat of force. So that's what makes it a robbery.
Starting point is 00:17:58 It's kind of like if you were to go steal a candy bar from sheets, for example, and you had a knife on you and you committed a theft or a gun on you and committed the theft, it's technically a robbery. Just by statute. It's not like a, you held a gun with somebody's head necessarily. Jamie Triplett seems very confused as to why he's being charged with a crime. He asks the officer why this is happening. He claims the man who called 911 was actually the aggressor in this situation. So why did the man charge coming to my area with the autistic son? Like, why y'all didn't do nothing about that?
Starting point is 00:18:33 They came to me. They brought this to me. Like, I'm confused. I'm sorry. I didn't hear what you. They came to me. They got hostile. If I were into me, like, why didn't you have done about that?
Starting point is 00:18:47 With an autistic little boy. Like, they came to me. I didn't go to them. Yeah. What do you mean? Like, what do you know? I mean, wasn't there. They pulled up a jerked me out of the car while. Like, why has nothing done there? You know what I'm saying? Did you want, I mean, you didn't call us and tell us,
Starting point is 00:19:05 so like, is there something you want to pursue? I mean, that man came to me. It's not all was mad. This came. I didn't go to them. See, picking up to me there, he came there. Then it's time for Triplett to go to the jail. All right. Are you ready? Yes, sir. It's right now. Okay, if we're finally, and the ground. Great.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Really. Yeah. Dispatchez. Dispatchezment. Dispatches. Is it you just got out of prison? Yeah. In prison?
Starting point is 00:20:43 Youngstown. You're going to be in county or in prison? Huh? You'd rather be a county in prison or do you have to be in prison? A lot more freedom. Yeah, the county. Yeah, he used to work at Southern County. Our county's terrible.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Everybody that I always talked to when I worked in the jail, always said they were to be in prison. Yeah. Depending on what happens here, I'll be in the county like six, seven weeks fighting in. Triplett was booked into the Stark County Jail in Canton on those three charges. A grand jury later indicted him on charges of aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, abduction, disrupting public services, assault, aggravated menacing, criminal damaging or endangering, and repeat violent offender.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Ty Graham, the lawyer representing Jamie Triplett, declined to comment at this time on the case because it's still pending. Jamie Triplett is scheduled to be in court later this week. That's it for this episode of Crime. I'm Angelette Levy. Thanks so much for being with me. I'll see you back here next time.
