Robert DeWeese, 37, is a convicted sex offender who's back in jail accused of raping a six-year-old girl in the restroom of a Five Below store in Warren County, Ohio. DeWeese has a criminal history going back to 2007 and has served time for voyeurism and gross sexual imposition. Body-worn camera video just released shows deputies investigating the incident at Five Below and tracking down DeWeese. He has pleaded not guilty. Okay, I need you to take your shirt off. A convicted sex offender is back in jail after detectives say he was lurking around a store and did the unthinkable. So I think I got a legit sexual assault here on a six-year-old. I'm at five below. I take you inside the investigation and the hunt for Robert Deweese and the circumstances surrounding his arrest on sex crimes charges and his checkered past. I'm Anjanette Levy and this is crime fix.

Robert Deweese is used to spending time behind bars, unfortunately. He's a 37-year-old man, and he's a convicted sex offender. Earlier this year, he was released from prison, and I'll get into exactly why he was there very shortly. The allegations in this case are incredibly disturbing, so I just want to warn you about that. The prosecutor in Warren County, Ohio, outside of Cincinnati, says that Robert Deweese was out of prison for a very, very short time. before he reoffended. It was February 6, 2026 when the call came in about a man touching a six-year-old girl in the restroom of a five below store. It's one of those stores where you can get stuff for under five bucks. It's just after 315 when a deputy walks into the store to investigate.

Hello. The other one just called? Yeah. What can I help you on with? So we came to get some items here. Okay. For our piano. She had to go to the bathroom. We took her back to the bathroom. She had to go really bad. She had an accident. So I told her to lock the door behind me, and I went out to the clothing area to get to see if they had my kids to help

because I don't want to take the backpacker even. She says a man mouth on the door. Okay. Came in and cut her. Okay. And then he, after she yelled at him, she... We can go somewhere. If you want to keep it, we can go somewhere else.

I'm the manager. Okay. Okay. But, yeah, that after she yelled at him that he left. Okay. I believe I may know which gentleman was, but I'm not 100% sure, so I'm just going on her. Okay. Yeah.

The victim, the six-year-old little girl, goes on to describe the man who her mom says knocked on the bathroom door. This child is describing how the man wearing a black jacket touched her privates. I'm pretty sure. Also, if you look at the footage when we walked in, I think the guy that she's describing is the same guy that held the door for us when we entered the store. Okay. car okay so and that's why i questioned you when you first came in because i didn't know if it was something that happened in the parking lot yeah it sounds like our cameras don't go to the car yeah no it's fine i was just happened and then you said the restrooms obviously i'm obviously of a little

no absolutely absolutely as you should be um do you have it do you have a driver's license i do you know do you know if her clothes were on or off her pants were down okay no yeah because i mean her pants are still wet but she put them on because she's okay okay okay um Do you have any problem filling out a statement for me? I'll go out of the video and we'll go. 100% yeah, whatever you mean. Feel comfortable doing it here. You want to go out to my car?

I can do it here. Okay, just give me a second. I'm gonna get all that for you, okay? Are you, are you, do you have access to the cameras or what you're? Okay, all right, once she gets done with the statement, we're able to look at that. Yeah, that's fine. Fabulous.

Yeah, my district manager is actually looking at it right now. Okay. So I'll check with Coles, see if they got some cameras and stuff. Yeah. Yeah, they're on for the parking lot. I always don't reach out as far as to the parking lot. So just like right here from the sidewalk. But we can see right there on that one.

That's what I see in the back. No, I got it. The one appears. Okay, okay. As far as our parking lot goes. Okay. And then are they, are you guys, would be, provide me a copy of that today? Or possibly?

You usually take a picture, don't they? We make a copy of that or, you know? May I call 20 criminal warrant service. Whatever you're able to, I guess. And then we can always come back. Yeah, probably can make a copy. All right, perfect. Okay, both 20.

We go. Okay. Yeah. She's like, and I would start her like to a cross. She came in the door and she said like a 250. So, yeah. Okay. Okay.

Okay. I sure will. Thank you. Oh, you're good? No, I appreciate your cooperation. The deputy goes back outside. He knows it's time to call in a detective and other deputies. Hey, you working?

Yeah. Okay. I think I got a legit sexual assault here on a six-year-old. I'm at five below. Long story short, girl goes in the bathroom because she urinated on herself. Guy followers are into a bathroom. He knocks on the door. Little girl opens up the door with her pants down.

And she says that she points to her and says this is where he touched me. Mom and dad are here. They got the store locked up. have mom working on a statement right now. Do you want her pants or anything? I doubt you'd be able to get any DNA. There's no, there was no, from the way that I understood it, you know, no penetration from her or anything like that.

It was a hand touch. I'm working on it. What's that? So, what? Because dad's in there right now changing her out. with about 250 is when they walked in the store. I got the time of call.

Let me see. I'm out in my car, and I got mom working on the statement. Time of call was 1507. So in the last 40 minutes. They believe that he was the same guy because it's coming from a 6-year-old,

but like I said, she's pretty descriptive. They believe that the guy actually held the front door. were open for them. So they came in at the same time. Okay. All right. Yeah, so the time, yeah, I'll get all that here in a little bit. I just didn't know what else you wanted me to get. Do you think of they have outside cameras? They do not. So, however, I'm going to check with Coles, see what they've got, and then kind of go from that. The deputy and the detective discussed having the six-year-old girl examined at the local.

Children's Hospital so a sexual assault exam can be conducted by a nurse. Unthinkable that something like this has to be done for a child. You have her close? Yeah, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, so here's what I would like you guys to do now. Is it her pants should be fine. They're the ones that they're wet. That's fine. No, it's fine.

Yeah, we'll shove it in there. Is there underwear in there also? You're fine. After this, if you guys are able to go to Cincinnati, so Cincinnati Children's or Dayton Children's, and then ask for a same kick. It's a basically, it's a rape kick. And they can see if there's any like penetration, especially, yeah, DNA's, you know, that's what they're swapping for. That's why I'm collecting this. I mean, she's pretty specific about what was going on.

It is what it all comes down to. So, with that being said, so we're going to test this for DNA. I just, that was the detectives that we were hoping to. So I just kind of want to let you know if you're able to do that, that would be great. And then we're going to be able to pick up that evidence from, you know, we'll be able to get it from now. So that it'll just kind of, if there is a UDMA, they'll be able to get it. It's a basically as a sexual assault rate. What it comes down to.

While the task of collecting evidence is underway, the next step is trying to identify. the person who did this to the girl. Did you happen to see? I mean, I know. Do you see the guy come in here at all? No. I've had very few people here today. Okay.

Except for right now. The manager and the deputy walked to the back of the office where they can look at the store's security camera system. Here, Burlington, Rift. They come out in the store, so.

Is that the only restroom you guys have here? Is that the only restroom you guys have here? These two. Yeah. And you don't know which weather is a right or left. Okay. Yeah, actually, you only see this and go back to this.

Okay. And if we have this one out, so you have two of them on now. So they said they got in the store about $2.50. Yeah, that's about what they said, yeah. And then basically they walked around the store for just a little bit of time. And then the daughter said that she needed to use the rest. Right. The deputy and the store employees continue to look through the video to

find the man the girl and her mother described. What? There we go. Hold on. All right. So that's it. What's her? 258. Mom goes in the restroom. Yep. Yep. Also, we need to request, except for the baby, the camera system and request from a something time for something time moving shit and stuff. Is, are you able to slow that down at all? I didn't remember seeing that guy. I guess we had to get on cards. Sorry. So you can I don't know, Bobby, you want you to

sleep better than I do. That's about what, three approximately? Yeah, if you can go back just a little bit. I didn't see Mom leave. So if we're able to watch from the time, if slow it down a little bit, just in real time.

And by chance if that's the only person that's there, that guy did get kind of shady when he came in here. Okay, so right there, about 3 o'clock, mom leaves. Is that right? Or that's when they're going in there. And I'm going to slow it down.

Okay. No, that's fine. What time did you say that was about? Pause it right there. That's about three o'clock. She exits. Yeah. Okay.

That's still in there. Yeah, okay. I can back that up just a little bit for you. No, I'm just going to put approximately approximately. That's when she goes. Okay. Well, but we still haven't seen the mail yet. So she's leaving, she's leaving the restroom at approximately three.

And then I'm assuming she re-enters. And then there's also a camera that faces that all way off. Okay. All right. Then, all right. And then mom returns. The daughter's wearing fully clothes, right? Yeah, full clothes.

Yeah. Okay. That was, that's within seconds, end up. Yes. So, so mom's in there and the daughter's in there. And also. That was, that was 358. That was 345.

second seat. Yeah. So, yeah, just, I'm just writing down some stuff here. Right now, they clearly have the suspect walking toward that bathroom door, but what they really need is his face. Then comes the big aha moment. If you can, if you can

tread off that, that would be absolutely fabulous to get us started wise. Right. You know, it's crazy. I mean, I'll tell you what, I'm going to go or do this. I didn't say the house people that was here for a half. They just took a picture.

I'm going to also take a picture this way. The mother of the victim said she told her daughter. She would use a special knock when she returned with new pants for her. Listen to this part where the five below employees and the deputies see the suspect hanging around the restroom. I mean, you would assume that he would be, he saw both of them. go in there. Right. Exactly. That's what... I mean, because he's there within seconds. Right. Yeah, he was there right as mom went in behind her. She was so freaking creeping out.

He's right over the mark. So he'll work. He's got his hand down his pants right there too. He's listening. That's the thing. He's listening at the door. Okay. So three of, basically three of two, she's out the door. In somebody's purse. Alright, so that's 302. What is that 302? He returns. You can pause it for a second here. You don't mind.

He looks like he knocked and then grab door handle. Would you agree? Yeah. And he looks at the camera again. Oh. Oh. She's all weird down. Yeah.

He didn't know. But, yeah, he still would do his cameras. So he did go to the handle. Yeah, he knocks several times. I mean, like walking by. Mm-mm. Yep. So enters.

So what? Zero. He, what time he actually, it was about, what, 3.0 to, 24. So it was about 30. He's totally in the bathroom. Yeah. About 44, yeah. The mother of the victim was out of the restroom for less than a minute before the suspect is accused of using the secret knock to get into the bathroom.

Now the search is on for the man who looked straight at the camera. Several hours passed and somehow the deputies identified the man in the surveillance video as Robert Deweese. They find out where he's been living and surround the place. Robert Dewees, the suspect, is living at a house with his brother. Deweis just got out of prison three days earlier. A group of deputies down the street finds Robert Deweis. They put him in cuffs and load him into a cruiser. I love you, Daniel.

You got anything on you? No, I know that. Not that you know of. Nothing like drugs or anything illegal. I would have money in there. Money? I'm not sure about it. I think I don't have nothing.

Any knives, guns. Nothing illegal, nothing. I'm not saying there on me a piece of paper or something to me. I love you. Can I tell you I love you for my brother? You want to do that too. Yeah, sorry, that was a juice thing, Dean. His wife was to make itself for I can have lunch in it.

And in the alleged incident at the five below, Deweis will be charged with gross sexual imposition again. The allegation is eerily similar to the offense Deweese had been serving time for in prison. In fact, Robert Deweese has conviction for sex. offenses in Ohio dating back to 2007. In June 2021, Deweese was charged with gross sexual imposition, a probable cause affidavit stated. On June 4th, 2021, an 11-year-old girl and her mother were at a dollar tree in Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio. The girl reported that the suspect later identified by both the girl and her mother by photo array as Robert Deweese followed her and her mother around the store while talking to himself. The girl stated while waiting in line, Deweese began to

rub her back and tell her she was pretty. Dewees then began to rub her buttocks and thigh area. Both the girl and her mom gave a detailed description of the perpetrator. Lancaster police developed Dewees as a suspect, and the girl and her mom identified Dewees as the perpetrator via a photo array. So what I just described is what Deweese was serving time for and a spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections told me that Deweese have violated the terms of his probation back in 2024, and he had done so several times for that offense and ultimately ended up in prison. Just stand up. I'm just going to check these and make sure they're not going to tighten up on you.

Yeah. Have a seat. Watch your knee. So back to the current situation, Dewees ended up in a familiar place, back in a jail jumpsuit and behind bars taking orders from guards. Okay. I need you to take your shirt off. I need your head to Officer Kennedy. I thought you guys were to meet me up or something.

No. No. I didn't know it. We're just seizing the rest of your property as you can in it. We'll do it all day. You need to take your pants. And on Officer Kennedy. One moment.

I'm sorry. You're going to have seating that great chair right there. That's you. Sit tight. Don't get yours. Robert Deweese was booked into the jail on that gross sexual imposition charge. But that was just the beginning. He was later indicted on two counts of rape, two counts of gross sexual imposition, one count of kidnapping, and one count of abduction.

There are specifications that come with the charges. The grand jurors found that Deweese is a sexually violent predator. This is the state of Ohio versus Robert Deweese, case number 26, CR 43390.
