Crime Fix with Angenette Levy - Singer Akon Slapped in Cuffs on Way to World Tour

Akon, the singer and philanthropist, was arrested in November 2025 on a bench warrant in the parking lot of a window tint business. The Grammy-nominated artist, whose legal name is Aliaune Akon Thiam, was driving on a suspended license. Akon told the Chamblee Police officers that he thought his warrant for a failure to appear had been addressed. The interaction with police was recorded by body-worn cameras as Akon and his wife were preparing to travel to India for his tour. What's up, brother? Hey, James Day back for me. Is it fair you up here? Yeah, you got a warrant. Police officers approached the singer Acon in DeKalb County, Georgia because he has a warrant out for his arrest. But because I took care of it, but I didn't think I need to come to court because it was already taken care.

I'll take you through why Acon was wanted and what ended up happening. Welcome to Crime Fix. I'm Anjanette Levy. Acon, of course, is a popular singer. He's a philanthropist. He's been around for a really long time. He's been nominated for. for a Grammy and detours all over the world. His music videos have more than a billion views on

YouTube. The guy has a massive, massive following. But last November, he had some people following him that he didn't expect. Akon's license plates caught the attention of police in Chambly, Georgia. 428s out with him. I was just on my way through courthouse. That's how I know. That's exactly how I was talking about. All right, let me just get that to my wife. I got you. I'll hand it to it. I dealt with this just last night. For real?

I was literally on my way to the courthouse. I was hit me drop the car. Roswell? Yeah, Roswell. Can when y'all take me? I had a flight to catch. No, no, no, no. I had a flight to catch, man.

You have anything on you? They might not even want to. Because everything was already taken care of. Where's your idea? It's in my bag. Did she get it? Any weapons in that car? No, no, no.

Alright. We literally want to take me to the car house to them. Yeah, I just did with this last night, literally. Wait, which... Have anything on you, brother? I'm just a patch again. You're a what's your... What's your call it?

because it was already taken care. Because I was being taken care. a stop for a failure to appear. And then I was paying that off. I got everything done because my license was suspended because of it. So I was able to get my license, everything done before I left. And then when I left, I didn't think they would have me come to court after I took care of everything. We'll see.

We're confirming now. I mean, they can very well say, hey, you know what? We don't want them. But if they do, you got to go down now. Matter of fact, I'll have to see it. Yeah, yeah. Now, I'll get back to that video and what's going on with that white Tesla cyber truck in just a moment. But first, I want to tell you why ACON is being stopped in the first place.

A Chambly Police report lays out why police surrounded ACON in the parking lot back on November 7th of 2025. A Flock safety camera that reads license plates sent an alert to police that a white Tesla cyber truck registered to someone with a warrant was in the area. Flock sells license plate reader cameras mounted in cities across the country. They're a little bit controversial. Critics like the ACLU say they allow for mass warrantless surveillance. So that day, last November, the cops went looking for the white cyber truck and they found the vehicle and Acon in the parking lot of Tint World. Acon is on his way out of town to go on tour in India. His wife is with him and her pink cyber truck.

Let's back up the video to pick up where we left off. We'll see. We're confirming now. I mean, they can very well say, hey, you know what? We don't want them. But if they do you, you got to go down there. Matter of fact, I have to see it, Robbill.

Yeah, yeah, open it up. Can I go show it right? What's that? Oh, you're gonna do it all right. How? You're traveling today? I was dropping this off and going to the courthouse in a street where you're talking? That was the whole situation.

Hold on you was going to India for, man. I'm going to be India for him. I'm gonna read that for about, I'm gonna be there for 10 days, and then I'll be traveling for another 10, well, another 10 days before I have to come back to the States. Take it out the box. Take it out the box. It's heavy as hell. I know, but I'll take it out the box.

Sorry. And you see the license is brand new. It's around the same time all this happened. I got literally took care of everything before I left. No, no, license. You see it? Just take all that out. You see the license? That's it right there.

Brand new license. Show you. Look at the date on it. It's the exact date. Hmm? No, I stay in alphabet. I'm not on the name national. Golf courts here.

This is all right? Then back turning it out. So Acon is left to sit while the officer goes back to his cruiser. Acon was apparently driving on a suspended license. The officers who have Acon in custody are with Chambly Police and the warrant is out of Roswell. The officers have to see if they can let Acon go or whether they have to take him in and book him. How far is Roswell from me? How far is Roswell?

Okay, so that's not within Kentucky. What do you put on for? They put, what did you put on for? They said I had a warrant for a failure to appear in Roswell. So when I explained to the office of the situation, they called in, and then they told them that, yeah, this license is actually on, his insurance is all covered, because when they pulled me originally, they pulled me because I had a suspended license.

Okay. My license was for a failure to appear because I was on the road at the time. So they told my truck, took me through the police station, and the police guy, the sergeant at the time over at Roswell, was like, listen, if I can see that you got everything in court. If you go get your license all this is covered, then we'll let you go and go deal with that. So you get, but I was able to go deal with all that the same day, went to DMV, had to get a slip from the courthouse to show that the insurance and everything was all covered. Where'd you get pulled over right? I got pulled over on exit 7 of 400.

What agency? I think it was Holcomb Bridge. What police department were? I want to say it was Roswell police actually. Again, same one? Same one. Yesterday was Roswell Police too. We try to work on everybody.

Y'all ran out. It sends us alerts and stuff. So they want you. So you are under arrest, they do want you. Oh, God. It's been all too. So how long do I have to wait before I see a judge or something? They, that's how do I come get you?

Oh, Ron's, I gotta wait for Ronza to come get me. You're into the cabs and then they're gonna be notified that we have you in custody. Let me, give me a second, let me, let me, let's hear about, we'll see it. Yeah, we try, they'll try to at least meet us. We'll just do a meet like half. We'll just do a meet like halfway. You go with them and you go straight over there and deal with it.

But if they don't want to meet, we don't have a choice. Now, I got to do with the car, babe. It's a failure to a court. Yeah, all the car was all settled. Acon has a big problem here. He's on his way to the airport to fly to India for tour dates. And he's in handcuffs. The drive from Roswell to Chambly is about 23 minutes without traffic.

But that's not accounting for the time he may sit waiting for the cops to actually come and pick him up. That could take hours and hours. Now, back to the video, and Acon talking to his manager on the phone. Can you talk to his manager quickly? It won't make it do this. So you could, I don't know what to tell that. Put the phone.

Put the phone on speak. Okay, okay. Does that, um. What up? No, no, I got a failure to appear when I was in Dubai on the 50th. Was it the 15th? Some of October? Yeah, we're supposed to be back for a court date.

But when I dealt with all that, it was for a failure to appear. I dealt with it so I didn't think I would have to go back to court after I dealt with it. Yeah, but apparently it was a situation where I had to come to court for a failure to appear to deal with a failure to appear. So even though I took care of it, I still had to go to court to prove that I took care of it. I'm assuming that's what I'm in DeKalb County. So the process is I'm in DeKalb County, but the charge is in Roswell. So they're checking to see if Roswell can meet them halfway to grab me so that way I don't have to go to DeKal.

Because if I have to go to DeKalb, then we have to wait. then we have to wait for them to process me in the cab and then wait for Roswell to come pick me up. And then they from there took me back to Roswell, then I did it with that case. So if Roswell end up having to pick me up, then it can save that time and hopefully I can deal with everything today. But if not, then, yeah, we're going to be stuck because I'm going to be in for the weekend in the DeKal County. Well, I mean, right now, you can just reach out to Amerit, but if they're going to end up meeting me with Roswell, then she'll probably just, you know, follow. go deal with the situation there. I just hopefully I can see, you know, the judge, somebody

to deal with this thing. Because you know, Fridays be tough, man. Yeah, Fridays be tough. So, if you don't get it done before the working hours, right. So, yeah, best, I'm going to try to get there and I try to buy him as soon as they check them in. And I'll just call you when I get here and keep you posted. Okay. Do I just follow you guys? No, if he is going to go, we'll just, I would say just go directly over there. Yeah, go directly. Yeah. Go directly. Start the process. Okay, hold on.

I would go to where. I would go to find out, check with Roswell and see. Yeah, but first you, first let's see where he's going. Okay, okay. There's no point for you to go all the way over there if he's going to end up having to go to Dakot. Hopefully he goes straight to Roswell and then you can just go straight over there. But the Indian floor, what I'm saying is, if you can... That's if you don't make the flight.

What other flights are going to be available? That's what the other flight is going to be available. He's going to ask for him if there's another. So Acon, he may have to mess up the entire answer. If they say, yeah, is there anywhere in particular you want to the peace? So Acon, he may have to rearrange flights. He may not make it to India. This could mess up the entire tour, but he's able to keep his sense of humor with the help of his wife.

Well, we meet the Roswell, we're good because everything's been taken care of it. They want to get me my license back. So what do you do when you get there? I mean, you got to go in the gym?

late flight or something. Yeah, we just have to figure out of way. As long as those flights, we'd be fine. We just have to connect you somewhere. But it would have to be today. We don't leave away. It's maybe not on the flight we're in Germany. What's the hours difference between India?

How many different hours? It's like nine hours. It's like the other side of the world. Yeah, yeah. We can take ten hours to get there. Yeah, yeah. I would love that. Bro, these days, I didn't want to stay home.

I ain't going to lie to you. I would love that. 10 hours and 30 minutes ahead. Yeah, you're right. They're in the future. Crazy. That's what makes it worse, though. You never ask them about the, the lottery numbers.

Oh, you know, my cousin, it's not actual tent. actual tent but it's like it looks tinted because of the slant right and then when the sun hit in a certain kind of way it's kind of like almost like shades glasses it stops to race from hitting your eyes you know that truck is this serious man I ain't I ain't go nothing like it's probably the best thing on the road because it handles like a Ferrari but then it still has their agile of SUV and it's fast as dead yeah I'm I heard that. It's so fast, man.

Oh, man. You're gonna do the trim like mines? What's that? Like, mine's gonna get dim, that, the line? We don't see your ass. It's what it's been strapping. It's called pinstrap. I can't believe this right now.

But you know what? Everything happens here is. Everything. Whatever was meant for us on the way to the airport, we probably weren't supposed to face it. That's how I see it. Eventually, the Chambly police officers are ready to get going. All right, so I did.

I mean, let them hold my cards, right? Let me just hold my cards and be safe.

Yeah, we're going to essentially, we're going to meet with Roswell either. We're determining now whether they're going to meet it to Sanisbury.

They don't go to like a county or something? Well, if it's a city charge and maybe he can just go and he can just see the judge, it just depends on that. It's just a fine that he needs to be paid or maybe he might use to see his judge. He could still be screwed and still have to go to full end and be there all weekend.

What's a charge? It's a family. I have a little steal with it. There's parties exchange information on the night. We don't have to do a jailbook day. So everything, it seems like it's working out, but then things hit a snag. No, we don't know how to do a jailbook tag. No, she's going to email it to me, man.

So I got bad news for you. Oh my God. So Roswell, they don't have anyone that can meet us. So unfortunately he's going to have to go down to get a kid. We tried. So you know 100% he's going to have to stay in there. We don't know yet. If you can, so what I would do if I was you, go down on the city of Roswell Police Department,

get whatever you need to get done over there, pay whatever fines it to be paid and see it maybe that way he can just bond out from the cab. Because they can send something to the cab, but hey, he's going to be cut loose, you know. But you got to check with Roswell and see what he's going to be paid. what he got going on the browser and see what he got to pay. You know what I'm saying? Or maybe, or he might need to see a judge. It just depends.

Acon is booked and released a few hours later, and it seems he was able to make his way to India for the tour. He had been cited back in September of, of 2025 after Roswell officers found him stranded in his white Tesla cyber truck, and they found his license was suspended.
