If you've ever shopped at Costco, you know you go there for the giant packages of toilet paper, the cheap hot dog meal and whatever other deals you can get. But recently, on a Saturday afternoon, shoppers and employees at a Costco in Ohio were sent running for their lives when a truck driver from Texas pulled in in his big rig.
Starting point is 00:01:40 This case takes us to Strongsville, a suburb south of Cleveland. It's Saturday, April 25th, a little after 5.30 p.m. Christian Bryant has parked his big rig in an area where Costco long-haul truckers drop off their loads. You can see Christian Bryant walk away from the truck and toward the parking lot. Bryant emerges from that delivery area and walks toward the store. Nothing seems amiss, but you can tell he's carrying something with him. Now it's just before 5.45 p.m., shoppers were coming and going, as you can see from this surveillance footage. It was busy, as it usually is, on Saturdays.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Through one of the windows, you can see, if you look very closely, that something is going on outside of the store. police say Christian Bryant pulled the gun he was carrying and fired at a Costco employee. His name, Randy Corrigan. The sound of gunfire stunned shoppers. At one point, a woman in black runs into the store, as other customers seem to freeze for a moment, and then the shoppers begin to scatter. A man in white stops and leaves his cart and runs toward the door pulling a woman to him. As the surveillance video plays, you can see store employees run toward the door of the store. The entrance of the Costco begins to clear out, and then the 911 call comes in. 9-1-1, where's your emergency? Strongville Costco. Somebody just got shot at the Costco? Somebody got shot at the Costco?
Starting point is 00:03:12 Yep. Are they breathing? I don't know. I ran the opposite way. Okay. Sorry, hold on just a second for me. Yep. Is it a male or female? I'm sorry, what? Is it a male or female? Do you know? I don't know. I didn't see who, but I just heard the gunshots. Do you know if the person who shot them is still there at all?
Starting point is 00:03:34 I do not. There was a car that drove away, but I didn't see any other description. That's okay? Hold on just a second. I'm going to start people. I have a couple more questions for you. Don't hang up, okay? We're going to see the back of the store.
Starting point is 00:03:46 We're going out. I'm going to disconnect. You get to safety if you have any more information calls back right away, okay? Good. Okay, bye. just one call to 911. There are several. Nine one month. You had to severe emergency? So do you know the store, Costco? Yes. And Strongfield? I, I, there was, I, there was nobody shooting all firework. There was just gunfire, we think. Okay. Wait, are you talking about,
Starting point is 00:04:12 sir, are you talking about Costco and Strongfield? Yeah. Okay, you said there was gunfire. Yeah. How much? People, people are running everywhere. Okay, inside or outside the store? I can't tell. I'm in my dad's car. There's like, people literally everywhere just scattered. Okay. You did not see the gunman?
Starting point is 00:04:38 No, I just heard it. I'm on one. See, I just have the emergency. At the scooter at Costco. Inside or inside or outside? Outside to Costco, they're just, this guy just gunned someone down several shots. The person is laying on the ground. active shooter was still standing there.
Starting point is 00:04:58 So one person on the ground? So one person on the ground? You said one person on the ground? There was one person on the ground. They were shot several times. There was one shooter who shot him. Pointe Blanky out of some type. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Where's the shooter now? When I'm obviously driving away right now? Okay. What did the shooter look like? It was a white male, longish, curly hair with a hat. Was it like a dark bluest jacket? I took a picture. Hang on a second.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Let me just get some more space. Okay. Last is all the front standing over. He was standing right in front of the cops. And part of the store? We have shorts and a jacket on Tom? No. Shorts in a jacket.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Okay. Look youngish. Maybe 30-ish. And a jacket. Like a navy zip-up jacket, I want to say. Let me see. I did, I took a quick picture. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:54 What kind of gun did he have? What kind of gun did he have? Oh, it was a handgun. Oh, of course, there's like no picture. Did you see what color? It was a handgun of some type. I don't know anything about guns. Did you see what color or no?
Starting point is 00:06:07 Was it like black? Black. It was a black gun. Okay. It looked rather large. Okay, but you did not see where he went last. He saw he was still standing over. He was standing there where he shot the guy, which is literally right in front of the Costco.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Okay. What is your name? And you're no longer in the area. right? I'm driving home. I'm just got out of the parking lot and obviously everyone's getting out of the parking lot. All right. Okay. We have officers on the way over there, okay? Okay. Okay. Thank you so much. You're welcome. I appreciate it. 911. What's the city of your emergency? Hi, Sunco, Ohio. Okay. What's the address? Hello? Hi, Sunco, Ohio. Yeah, where are you?
Starting point is 00:06:58 Oh, Costco. Okay, what's going on there? There were gunshots at the strong, so Ohio Costco. Okay, hold on one second for me. It's in the parking lot. Come on, well, just along. The person is? I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Do you know where the person is? No, I was inside, and all we heard was a- Okay, is it outside or inside? Ma'am, is it outside the store or inside the store? It was outside the store. It was in the parking lot. Okay, do you know if anyone was shot? I have no idea, but there were multiple rounds that were shot.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Okay. Okay, so it was in the parking lot, though? Yeah, it sounded like it was closer to the gas station side. Are you in the store? They took us to the back. Okay, yeah, just stay there. We have the units on seen, okay? What's going on there?
Starting point is 00:08:16 Gunshots fired. How many? One of my story got hit. Randy was hit with gunfire. Randy was hit with gunfire. Randy was hit. Randy told I got to drop the gun and the guy shot him. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Can you give me some information? Is the person who did the shooting still in the store? I don't know. Do you know where they went? Do they go out of the store? No. I have no idea. Do you know who...
Starting point is 00:08:43 There's some strong going in Strongville. Yes. We have the officers on the way. We're trying to get some information. Randy was hit. Randy said drop the gun and it looked like the guy shot him and I'm in there. Where? right in front of the store.
Starting point is 00:08:56 I think that might be the guy. I'm freaking terrified. What is that? Sir, is the person that is injured inside or outside? I think that guy with the shorts. I think that guy, be careful. Be careful with them. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:14 The person who is injured, where are they? They're in front of Costco in strong. Inside the store or outside the store? Outside the store. Okay. Okay, and who do you think did this? Is this person outside? Yes, it's a tall.
Starting point is 00:09:32 The white gentleman, we're in shorts and a hat. I don't know. I don't know. I backed away. I've got the distance here. I don't know what's going on. Okay. Do we see the weapon on this possible subject?
Starting point is 00:09:46 I saw a weapon drawn, and I saw shots being fired. Strongsville Police race to the Costco. For a second so we can run your aid, okay? Can I tell you what happened? Yes, not right now. I was in fear for my life. Take care of him for a second. I was in fear for my life.
Starting point is 00:10:29 I was in fear for my life. Christian Bryant has been placed in the back of a police cruiser, and he had his cell phone with him, and he keeps replaying a recording where he says he came at me with an effing knife, and he's going to be dead for gang stalking. He's in this cruiser, but Christian Bryant is not in handcuffs. I just wanted to go to the store, bro. And now I'm at the... I just wanted to go to the store, bro.
Starting point is 00:11:43 That's it, bro. And this my... approached me with a knife, bro. And I just blew... I was in fear for my life. He approached me with a knife, man. I just called a beat. So I can beat this is easy.
Starting point is 00:12:00 I can beat. It's just not, bro. It's just died for games. 71. You would catch you a B-A-B-B. A-C-set. You can catch you a B-A. Look up.
Starting point is 00:12:58 A.C. said, you can catch you a beat easy. Bray, I was in fear for my life, bro. This is not randomly approached me to the knife. I ain't do shit. I ain't do nothing. He just approached me with a knife. You can catch you a beat as easy. A.C. said, A.C. said, you can catch you a beat that easy.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Man, that's a man. Man, you catch a beat that easy. Man, this, bro, he's gonna, bro, he gonna approach me with a knife. Why are you approaching me with a knife? I ain't, bro, I'm afraid to approach me with a knife. You don't catch a C. A.C. You can catch you a beat easy.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Christian Bryant is recording himself, and he keeps replaying it over and over again, and he appears to find this funny. He keeps saying AC says that he can beat this easy. Then things don't appear to be as amusing to him when police returned to the cruiser. All right, well, get to that. A white man approached you with a knife for no reason. A white man approached you with a knife for no reason. A white man approached you with a knife for no reason.
Starting point is 00:15:41 He approached you with a knife for no reason. You have anything on you? I didn't do nothing. I'll just fear for my life, man. We're past that right now. Where's we gone? We haven't. We have it.
Starting point is 00:16:01 Where's the camera? Pull the camera. He put a knife on me. Man, I, I think. This is just a white dude that approached me with a knife. My truck is over there. My truck is, my, sir, sir, sir. Is this your wallet?
Starting point is 00:16:47 Yes, yes, yes. You have my phone? What's to do? Man, this shogous. Man, this is bogusus. Man, I want him trying to do this grocery shop. This bull, I was in fear for my life. Hey, you have the right to remain silent.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I was in fear for my lying, nothing. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. You have the right to an attorney prior to and during any questioning. Oh my. I didn't even do nothing. You understand? Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Okay, I highly suggest you invoke that right and shut you. I didn't even do nothing. I didn't even do nothing. didn't even do nothing. Christian Bryant has gone from laughing about this terrible situation to now being concerned. He continues to say he didn't do anything wrong and that the person he shot came toward him with a knife. My truck is over there.
Starting point is 00:20:10 It's right over there, man. Down that way. I'm just a truck. I'm just a truck driver just trying to go to a grocery store. Is it a semi-truck? Yes, a semi-truck, bro. What's on the semi-truck? D1, Denimo.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Yeah, there'll be a number on it. Yeah, there'll be a number on it. All right. I'm, I'm just, I got some. Take your breath. Okay. This is gonna cost me my job, bro. We have Strongville Carcinmore,
Starting point is 00:20:42 Strongville Medical 1, and Strongville Medical 2. Uh, Christian. All right, listen, I know there's a lot going on right now, okay? Right now, just because the severity of it, you're going to come back with us. All right, we're going to hold you, I'm not saying you're going to be charged right now. That's just what's going on, okay? Just starting to be as transfer as possible. I'm not a detective.
Starting point is 00:21:05 I was in fear for my life. I'm not here yet. Is my truck going to remain there? For now, yes. Okay. Do you have my key? Hey, I can't, they only have one truck key. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:19 You guys have my key? Yes. Okay. You have my phone wallet? The phone wallet. Keyes in your hat. It should be a dinosaur on it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Okay. Please pull the camera. Please pull the camera. Please pull the camera. Please. Please just pour the camera. He confirmed that you have Christian, Brian, I was worth, four, four, Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Yeah, that's me. That's me. It's Irvin, not Fort Worth. It's Irvin, Texas. The investigation continues, and Christian Bryant is eventually taken to the police department. A police incident report stated that Randy Corrigan had been shot seven to eight times, but that he was able to speak to police as medics tried to treat him. Randy Corrigan later passed away. His family wrote about him on a GoFundMe page.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Randy was an amazing, funny, and generous man who completely turned his life around after some trouble in his younger days. He was selfless and caring, the sole caregiver for my 86-year-old grandmother. Aside from taking care of her, he loved going to work at Costco, always talking about his coworkers. He would joke, laugh, and pass around sweet treats to everyone around him, making every day brighter for those he met. He loved all things Jeep, Irish, and never passed up an opportunity for a new tattoo. These passions brought him joy and made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him. Christian Bryant was booked on one charge of murder. Prosecutors say he approached the Costco, armed with a 40-caliber handgun,
Starting point is 00:23:02 equipped with a fully loaded 50-round drum magazine. Our deceitly Mr. Corrigan, who was an employee at Costco, was on a break. He was in his car and noticed this and attempted to stop him as he, prior to entering the front door of this busy Costco at about 5.25 p.m. He struggled. Mr. Bryant pulled his firearm. Took us a couple of steps back, pulled his firearm, shot Mr. Corrigan that advanced on Mr. Corrigan as he was on the ground and he shot him more as he was on the ground. Randy Corrigan's niece asked that Christian Bryant be held without bond. Prosecutors wanted a two. million bail set citing a prior firearms conviction. In the end, the judge set Christian Bryant's bail at $5 million. He remains behind bars. A future court date has not yet been set, but it seems clear that he will be claiming self-defense in this case, and we'll keep an eye on it for you. That's it for this episode of Crime Fix. I'm Ann Jeanette Levy. Thanks so much for being with me. I'll see you back here
Starting point is 00:24:05 next time.
