Hi, crime junkies.
What a way to start, right?
I don't even know how to start this,
and I feel honestly like my whole world's under water right now,
so I'm just going to tell you what's up,
and I'm sorry if it's a little all over the place.
With Britt's permission, she wanted us to share with you
what happened this last week.
Britt had a sudden brain bleed that led...
Oh, sorry.
That led to a clot in her brain,
and she had to undergo multiple brain surgeries
over the last week.
Now, despite how much I'm crying,
she did luckily make it out of each of them.
I've been up to see her a couple of times.
She's talking, she has some mobility.
You guys, she's not dead again.
Ignore the tears.
Our Britt is going to be okay.
I know she's going to be okay,
and honestly, the best thing I can do
is give you this anecdote to tell you
how much of Britt is still there.
When I went to see her in the hospital,
it was after her first surgery,
and the nurse was in there,
and she was telling Britt
about how critical her condition was when she came in.
She didn't know what year it was.
She didn't know what her birthday was,
and they were asking her some of the questions
that you have to ask in a hospital when someone comes in.
Are you safe at home?
Is your husband good to you?
And, you know, Justin wasn't in the room,
and Britt kind of, like, is rolling her eyes,
being, yes, I'm fine, yes, I'm fine.
And the nurse says, you know,
I have to ask these questions.
And Britt, like, the most crime-junkie fashion,
this will just show you it's in her DNA,
like, who she is at her core.
I can't remember her freaking birthday,
but she says, yes, I know, I watch SVU.
So she's still there.
She is still herself.
She is still a crime-junkie as ever,
but she does have a long road ahead of her
to physically recover.
And this has just turned my world upside down.
At this exact second,
I don't know what this means for crime-junkie.
I mean, I believe with all my heart
that Britt is gonna be healthy enough to get back on the mic.
I just don't know when that is.
We have to give her enough time and space to heal,
so I hope all of you out there understand
that this show is probably gonna sound a little different
for a bit while she's away taking care of herself.
And we have some really important episodes
that our team has been working on for a long time,
and I don't want to let our advocacy work just come to a halt.
So here's what is gonna happen
for at least the next couple of months.
This week, obviously, has been unreal.
I've spent most of my time in South Bend with Britt and her family,
so I don't have an episode lined up for Monday.
So instead, we're gonna give you guys a precedent episode.
And then Britt and I actually pre-recorded a couple of episodes
that just need to be edited,
so you are gonna continue to hear her voice through the end of May.
But starting in June, it's just gonna be me for a little while.
Again, I don't know how long, but at least a couple of months.
And I promise you, as we know more,
we're gonna update you guys either here in the feed or on social media.
I know all of you are amazing and understanding,
and I'm sure you're gonna be keeping Britt
in your thoughts and your prayers.
But actually, I thought we could do one a little bit better for her.
She deserves a little bit better than that.
I mean, you guys know when a friend's in the hospital,
you get them a card, you make them a card, you go see them.
Well, Britt is all of our best friends.
Millions of you out there hang out with her every single week.
So here's what I'm gonna ask you to do.
I want you to go to our Instagram, at CrimeJunkie Podcast.
And there, we've made a special post for Britt.
I want you to use the comment section as your card to Britt.
Send her all of your encouraging thoughts, all of your well wishes.
If you have a story that is particularly long or personal
about how CrimeJunkie has touched your life,
or you wanna include pictures, you know, pictures of puppets or a bonus,
you can email that, crimejunkieataudiochuck.com.
I know as she continues to heal,
it's gonna make her feel amazing to know that each one of you
are thinking about her, that you're rooting for her to come back.
Just like I am.
So, thank you all for understanding,
and thank you for continuing to support CrimeJunkie
as we all figure this out together.
We love you, Britt.
