According to Montgomery Police, the incident occurred around 10.30 p.m.
near the intersection of Bibb Street and Commerce Street,
when two groups exchanged gunfire in the midst of a crowd.
The deceased victims identified as 17-year-old Jeremiah Morris and 43-year-old Shalanda Williams
are believed to be residents of Montgomery.

under 20 years old, the youngest being 16. In response to the shooting, police have announced a
reward of at least $50,000 for any information that leads to an arrest. This incident occurred
during a busy weekend in Montgomery, coinciding with events such as the Tuskegee Morehouse
Classic, the Alabama National Fair, and Alabama State University's homecoming game. Montgomery
Police Chief James Grabus condemned the reckless action.
of those involved.
We know that at least two of the victims, two of these 14 people, were armed.
This started as a result of an individual, one of these 14, who we believe was targeted.
Basically, an exchange that got fired erupted.
When that exchange erupted, multiple people in the crowd, this was a crowded area, pulled their own weapons and started discharging.
He confirmed that 14 people had been shot, two have died.
and the police have vowed that the law enforcement will continue their efforts until justice is served.
Graebus noted that there were at least five police officers nearby when the shooting occurred,
but acknowledged that violence can escalate quickly.
He stressed that while downtown Montgomery is generally safe,
the actions of a few reckless individuals have devastating consequences.
The firearms used in the shooting have been recovered,
and it has been reported that they contained high-capacity magazine,
While police have detained several people for questioning, no arrest have been made,
Montgomery Mayor Stephen Reed reflected on the gravity of the situation,
saying that the nature of this gun violence was likened to the scene of the Wild Wild West.
Nancy, he lamented over the loss of innocent lives over trivial matters.
