Here now, some of the biggest stories of the week.
I'm Drew Nelson in Tennessee.
A couple is charged with the brutal death of a one-year-old girl,
their own niece, after a tragic incident babysitting.
August 17th, police responded to the local children's hospital
where one-year-old Callie Moore had been
rushed in cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m. The child's injuries were
severe, multiple skull fractures, a brain bleed, a bruised kidney, and blood in her lungs. Callie's
great-grandparents, Margaret and Deacon James Calicott, are heartbroken and shocked that family
members are accused. They talked to WLBT.
We will always love Callie, and we will always love Taya,
because we are loving this very time.
Family.
Callie had been under the care of her aunt, 21-year-old Kaya Moore,
and Moore's boyfriend, 34-year-old DeJuan Smith, for two days.
Both now face charges of first-degree murder,
aggravated child abuse, and aggravated child neglect.
In a disturbing twist,
the two gave police different accounts of what happened.
Smith says he heard Moore slam Callie into the floor
and walls multiple times,
but Moore insists she came home
to find the child unresponsive.
This isn't Moore's first encounter with the law.
She's already facing aggravated child abuse charges from 2022.
Her court date for that case is set for August 29th.
An attorney representing Moore in that case declined to comment.
No baby food was found in the home,
and it's not clear if the child had a safe place to sleep.
Moore and Smith remain in custody without bond
as the investigation continues to unfold.

Mohamed Alomaro, 42, of Tinley Park, has been found guilty of first degree murder.
This following the beating of his teenage daughter, following an argument over her prom.
17 year old Mia Morrow was beat to death inside her home.
This, according to the Cook County State's attorney reporting to Chicago Tribune.
Court documents show Alan Morrow says he initially gave his daughter permission to attend the senior prom,
but later changed his mind, saying, quote, I didn't trust her. Prosecutors said it was the father's sister who found the
niece covered in a blanket in the home on 167th Street. Her father, Alomaro, was sitting on the
floor beside the teen with his arm draped over his daughter's body. According to the arrest report,
Mia suffered extensive hemorrhaging and bleeding to her brain was covered in numerous bruises and it seemed her
father used multiple objects to beat her. Police Chief Matthew Walsh. He had superficial cuts to
his throat. He had cuts to his wrist. He had taken, the doctor said that when he arrived he was under
several narcotics. Court documents show Alomaro sent an apologetic text to one of his sons following the incident saying, quote, I lost my mind. I went out of control all over the prom. Mia's family described her as a beautiful soul with huge goals of being in the dental field. Her father is facing life in prison. I'm Jennifer Gould. Two 14-year-old girls have been arrested in connection with the brutal
murder of a 93-year-old woman, Joanne Johnson, in Augusta, Kansas. The girls, whose names have not
been released due to their age, were taken into custody this August, nearly a year after Johnson's
death. The victim's son, Tim Johnson, spoke to News 12. Because it's not closure.
It's not, you know, my mom was still brutally murdered. The murder occurred on September 3rd, 2023, and authorities had been investigating the case ever since.
According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the girls were arrested for first-degree murder
and are currently being held at separate juvenile detention centers.
While the girls face serious charges, they will not be tried as adults.
Kansas law prohibits individuals under the age of 22 and a half years old.
The news of the arrests has sent shockwaves through the community.
Johnson's family has expressed their grief and anger and are demanding severe punishment.
But the father of one of the suspects is painting a different picture.
He spoke to KAKE News by phone and says his daughter and her friend were coerced into entering Johnson's home by another man who then committed the crime.
The father alleges that man threatened to kill the girls and their families if they told anyone about what happened. Authorities have not given any credence to this allegation
or there being another suspect in the case.
The KBI has not confirmed if public tips contributed to the arrest,
nor have they identified any connection between the accused teens and Johnson either.
