Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an iHeart Podcast. Crime Stories with Nancy Grace. Taught mom Casey Anthony, a name that will go down in infamy. Casey Anthony charged with the murder of her two-year-old little girl, Kelly. Believe it or not, Kelly would have been sweet 16. I traveled to Florida in the last 24 hours, keeping in mind what could have been for little Kelly before she was murdered. I saw the family home.
Starting point is 00:01:00 I saw the school she would have attended. I saw the location, the Amscot, where Tot Mom's car was left abandoned because it smelled like a dead body. I toured Sawgrass Apartments, the home of the imaginary babysitter Tot Mom Casey Anthony made up, claiming the babysitter was responsible for Kelly's disappearance. I went to the courthouse where the verdict came down, a verdict that shot the conscience of so, so many. I'm not guilty in the death of little Kelly. that night people were outraged at the verdict and as I drove through Kelly's neighborhood where she lived with her grandparents it saddened me to realize that probably most people in that neighborhood don't even know the name, Kaylee Anthony. It's like it never happened.
Starting point is 00:02:10 It's a distant memory. But then before I left to come back to my own children, I stopped at the location, the swampy wooded area where little Kay Kelly's body, duct tape wrapped around her little head, her mouth, her nose, placed in a trash bag. I went to where she was thrown.
Starting point is 00:02:38 To think of that little girl decomposing out in the elements for the animals to tear her body apart. There she was out there with the used tires, the trash, the empty booze bottles. I laid flowers there. I kissed them first. And I thought about what could have been for Kelly. I thought about all the pain that her grandparents, George and Cindy, experienced when top mom Casey Anthony tried to blame George Anthony for what happened to Kaylee,
Starting point is 00:03:30 accusing him of all sorts of crimes that I'm convinced never happened. I thought about Cindy Anthony risking her own freedom by taking the stand and trying to claim responsibility for damning computer searches for homemade chloroform? So willing to sacrifice herself for her then-grown daughter?
Starting point is 00:03:56 And what legacy has Tot Mom left behind? Well, every few months or so, she rears her head. She's usually at one bar or the other wearing a pair of hot pants doing shots. She most recently got into a bar fight with another woman because they had apparently been dating the same man. A cop, no less. What was he thinking? All I know is this. A lot of people may have forgotten Kelly.
