Now with the latest crime and justice breaking news,
Prime Online's John Limley.
We begin in Wisconsin,
as a man wanted in the killings of a woman and two girls
has been captured after an intensive week-long manhunt.
47-year-old Virgil Thu was arrested in Elroy, a small town about 12 miles
from New Lisbon, where the victims were found shot to death on December 30th. Authorities say
the victims, 33-year-old Elizabeth Kolba and two girls, ages 12 and 13, were discovered inside a
home and court records confirm Thu knew them. Thieu now faces three counts of first-degree intentional homicide.
The search for him involved local law enforcement, federal marshals, and the FBI,
with investigators using social media to share his name and photo.
Police credited Public Tips for helping locate Thieu,
but have released few details about his arrest or a possible motive.
New Lisbon police have declined to provide additional information.
Actor Alec Baldwin has filed a civil lawsuit alleging malicious prosecution, defamation, and civil rights violations
stemming from the fatal 2021 shooting of cinematographer Helena Hutchins on the set of the film Rust.
For the latest, we turn to Sydney Sumner of Crime Online.
The lawsuit filed in Santa Fe accuses special prosecutor Carrie Morrissey,
District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altweese, and several Santa Fe County investigators
of mishandling evidence and unfairly targeting Baldwin for political or professional gain.
Baldwin's legal team argues prosecutors ignored key evidence, which ultimately led to the dismissal
of involuntary manslaughter charges against him in July. Baldwin was rehearsing a scene when the
revolver he was holding discharged, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
Baldwin claims he pulled back the gun's hammer,
but did not pull the trigger. The lawsuit also alleges investigators concealed ammunition evidence presented in March, which prosecutors deemed unrelated to the case. Special Prosecutor
Morrissey dismissed the claims as retaliatory, but said she looks forward to court proceedings.
Other legal outcomes include a 1.5-year prison sentence
for Rust Weapons Supervisor Hannah Gutierrez-Reed
and a settlement with Hutchins' widower and son.
Hutchins' parents and sister have also filed lawsuits.
Baldwin is seeking damages, legal fees,
and a challenge to prosecutors' immunity.
Thanks, John.
