Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an iHeart Podcast. Crime Alert, I'm Nancy Grace. Breaking crime news now. McKinley Luisma picks up his girlfriend, Melody Hoffman, for a date. She's surprised to see he's brought a friend with him. Moments later, Dakota Van Patten is helping Luisma bind Hoffman with duct tape and rope. The men throw her in the trunk of their car and take her to an Iowa lake where they beat, stab and slash Hoffman and strangle her dead, dumping her body in the water. Nancy, it's unclear what spurred the attack on Hoffman, but Luisma and Van Patten reportedly were involved in the same crime a month prior. The pair allegedly beat a third man and were both charged with assault, then released on bond. Investigators found Hoffman's phone case and Apple Watch in Luisma's car. Starting point is 00:00:50 moment Hoffman's heart stopped. McKinley, Luisma, 23, and Dakota Van Patten, 18, charged with kidnap, murder, and conspiracy. Joshua Wingenroth advertises drone services to hunters who have wounded a deer and are struggling to locate it. Wingenroth uses a thermal camera to locate the deer in question, then switches to a normal view to make sure the animal is really dying. If the deer looks like it will live, he doesn't want to disclose the location, and the hunter agrees to hunt the deer another day. Pennsylvania game officers view this practice as, quote, part of the hunt,
Starting point is 00:01:25 and after a sting operation, confiscate the drone, and a jury convicts him of two counts of illegal electronics during hunting. More crime and justice news after this. Now with the latest crime and justice breaking news, Crime Online's John Limley. An officer's body cam video of a man being shot to death inside his apartment has now been made public by a suburban Chicago police department. For details, we turn to Sydney Sumner with Crime Online. It was after being shot by police on February 3rd in the village of Carroll Stream, around 34 miles west of Chicago, that Isaac Goodloe III was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Starting point is 00:02:04 The public integrity team in the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office gave their approval for the tape to be made public, this according to Carroll Stream Police. The department stated, quote, We share these videos as part of our commitment to transparency and our intention to give the public a fuller understanding of the events that unfolded that morning. The police department posted on Facebook after the shooting that officers had, quote, encountered a tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving situation, which resulted in officers discharging their weapons at the alleged domestic violence suspect.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Police announced that the 30-year-old Goodloe was shot at the Village Brook apartments around 5.11 in the morning as authorities were called to a domestic violence disturbance. In a video that preceded the body cam footage's release, Carroll Stream Police Chief Donald Cummings stated that when investigators spoke with Goodloe's girlfriend, she reported that the two had engaged in a physical altercation and that she had been hurt. She added that her keys were still inside the apartment. Officers can be seen in the body cam video approaching the apartment door from a hallway after obtaining a key from the housing management.
Starting point is 00:03:06 They moved toward a closed bedroom door after announcing they were cops and began filing inside. Video shot from the body cam of an officer behind the lead officer shows the bedroom door being kicked in and then what sounds like two gunshots. Chief Cummings said that two out of the six police present fired a single shot while one officer used a taser. In a statement released after viewing the footage, Goodloe's family's attorneys claim that the footage depicts, quote, an unarmed black man shot and killed in the sanctity of his own bedroom.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Alleging wrongful death and other counts, Goodloe's sisters filed a federal complaint against the police department and the officers. Unspecified damages are being sought in the lawsuit. In a sports wagering case involving four former or suspended Iowa State athletes, a prosecutor has requested that the judge drop all charges. Once again, Crime Online's Sydney Sumner. Assistant County Attorney Benjamin Machen said in a motion submitted to the Story County District Court that the Division of Criminal Investigation had gone beyond what was allowed in terms of using monitoring software to find open mobile betting apps in ISU sporting facilities. Earlier, the attorneys for suspended wrestler Panero Johnson and former football players Isaiah Lee, Jeriel Brock, and Inyi Uwazuriki filed a move to suppress.
Starting point is 00:04:27 The four are among about two dozen Iowa State and Iowa athletes criminally charged last year. They each faced a felony charge of identity theft and an aggravated misdemeanor charge of tampering with records. Most of the athletes who were charged pleaded guilty to underage gambling, paid fines, and had identity theft charges dropped. Thanks, John. Anna Konezovic-Hanao heads to Madrid, Spain, while finalizing a divorce from husband David Konezovic in Florida. She mentions on a phone call she plans to stay in, but neighbors say they see her leave the apartment later that night. She never comes home. Family members get odd texts from Anna claiming she's heading to the Spanish countryside with the man she just met. Anna already had plans to take a train to Barcelona to meet a friend, but she never shows up.
Starting point is 00:05:15 The night Anna left her apartment, a man in a motorcycle helmet spray painted the cameras near the elevators just before she supposedly leaves. Authorities strongly believe Anna has met with foul play. Her husband, David Konezovic, says he was traveling to Serbia when Anna disappeared.
