A sister who discovered a crime scene
in which four people were shot to death
arrived to broken glass, bullet holes,
blood, and guns thrown about the home.
And the suspect later arrested
at the scene of a highway shooting
with what appeared to be blood on him. Police found multiple cartridge casings of varying
calibers in the vehicle driven by the suspect after shots were fired at vehicles along Interstate 295,
wounding three people. A state police affidavit released Thursday as the suspect, Joseph Eden,
made his first court appearance contained grisly details,
a note found at the scene, and a timeline for the events. Eden showed no emotion during the
brief hearing other than to acknowledge to the judge that he understood the charges.
Police have yet to discuss what might have been a motive behind the shootings on a rural property
in Bowdoin and then along a busy interstate highway about 12 miles from Maine's largest city, Portland.
Updating a story we brought you just moments ago,
the 84-year-old man who shot Ralph Yarl when the black teenager went to his door by mistake
has pleaded not guilty in a case that has shocked the country
and renewed national debates about gun policies and race in America.
Sidney Sumner brings us that update from Crime Online.
Andrew Lester walked into the courtroom with a cane and spoke quietly during Wednesday's hearing,
his first public appearance since last week's shooting.
Authorities say he shot Jarl, a 16-year-old honor student, first in the head, then in the arm, after Jarl came to
his door because he had confused the address with the home where he was supposed to pick up his
younger brothers. Jarl was shot at point-blank range in the head, but miraculously survived
the bullet. The case is among three in recent days involving young people who were shot after
mistakenly showing up in the wrong places. A 20-year-old woman was killed in upstate New York
when her boyfriend pulled their car into the wrong driveway.
Meanwhile, in Texas, two cheerleaders were shot
after one of them mistakenly entered a car thinking it was hers.
A Las Vegas teenager pleaded guilty as an adult Wednesday
to felony charges that a prosecutor says could get him decades in prison for attacking
a high school teacher and leaving her unconscious in a classroom a year ago. The incident, which
included allegations of sexual assault, left the teacher hospitalized with multiple injuries
and focused attention on a sharp rise in violence at the time in the sprawling Clark County School
District, the nation's fifth largest.
Crime Online is not naming the defendant due to his age. Now 17, he pleaded guilty to attempted
murder, attempted sexual assault, and battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm.
His pleas avoided trial in Clark County District Court. Two former New Mexico State basketball players
have filed a lawsuit alleging they were sexually assaulted by teammates and that the coaching
staff and other administrators did nothing when they reported the assaults. With more,
Crime Online's Sydney Sumner. The lawsuit was filed by Deuce Benjamin and another player who
said three teammates forced them to pull their pants down below their ankles, then assaulted them. Benjamin had earlier referenced the alleged assaults while
announcing his departure from the team on social media. Chancellor Dan Arvizu canceled the season
in February after Benjamin took his allegations to school police. Arvizu framed the allegations
as stemming from a hazing episode. The civil lawsuit filed in district court in Las Cruces, New Mexico,
took issue with that description, saying,
The lawsuit listed as defendants the New Mexico State Board of Regents,
two former members of the coaching staff, and three former players.
Tyler Morrell,
just trying to deliver a pizza, notices Pennsylvania cops chasing a car driving towards
him. The car abruptly stops. The driver jumps out, trying to run on foot. Morrell has to step
off the sidewalk so the suspect doesn't bump into him, but Morrell sticks a leg out, tripping the
suspect. Cops catch up and cuff the guy. Both cops and Coco's
pizzeria commend Morell for bravery and still delivering that pizza unharmed. For the latest
