A 15-year-old student has been charged with homicide in connection with the shooting death of another 15-year-old, a classmate outside a Pittsburgh school.
For more, we turn to Sydney Sumner with Crime Online.
The shooting happened Wednesday morning, just before classes were scheduled to begin. Just before 7.30 a.m. Eastern Time, police discovered Derek Harris with gunshot wounds outside the entrance to
Oliver Citywide Academy. Eleven shots had been fired, the rounds registered by a gunshot detection
system. According to Major Crimes Commander Richard Ford, Harris was seriously hurt and
taken to a hospital where he later died. The other 15-year-old, who an officer saw leaving the
school carrying a pistol, was apprehended and a gun was found. In both a police report and a
court docket, the student was named as Jameer Perry. He's accused of criminal homicide,
possession of a firearm by a minor, and carrying a weapon without a license.
According to police, Perry was taken to the Allegheny County Jail in downtown Pittsburgh.
Two former police officers in Mississippi have been charged with murder,
and another ex-officer has been charged with manslaughter,
all in connection with the death of a black man who was repeatedly tased
and held to the ground during an arrest last December.
In body camera footage released Wednesday, the three Jackson officers,
Avery Willis, Kenya McCarty, and James
Land, were seen fighting to handcuff Keith Muriel when he was repeatedly tased over the course of a
10-minute period. Authorities claim that shortly before midnight on December 31, 2022, the cops
tackled Muriel while taking him into custody for illegally trespassing at a hotel. According to court documents, Land was charged with manslaughter and second-degree murder,
while McCarty and Willis charged with second-degree murder.
Following the incident, all three were given administrative leaves of absence.
McCarty was fired in February, followed by Willis and Land in April.
After a five-year investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse by Illinois
Catholic clergy, the state's attorney general has issued a nearly 700-page report that reveals the
issue was much worse than the church had initially recognized. Once again, Crime Online's Sydney
Sumner. Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced that more than 450 Catholic clergy members in Illinois have been
found to have sexually molested approximately 2,000 minors since 1950. However, according to
Raoul and other experts, it's unlikely that the discovery will result in legal action.
Advocates say they're hopeful that the findings will make more people feel comfortable talking
to their loved ones, friends, support networks, and law enforcement about what happened to them. They further claim that it can lead to the filing of civil lawsuits,
even for abuse that occurred long ago. Advocates also expect that lawmakers will take more measures
that will allow prosecutors to file charges in older sex abuse cases and tighten the requirements
for mandatory reporting. Three girls and six boys, ages 12 to 17, have been
arrested for nearly three dozen robberies that Oakland Police Department officials say have
terrorized the area. Authorities say they're worried and disgusted to see more young people
engaging in crime, as robberies have grown citywide by 7 percent this year compared to the
same period last year. In the first week of this
month, Oakland experienced 100 robberies, including 50 over the weekend. At a news conference with the
mayor on Wednesday, Interim Police Chief Darren Allison noted that some of the robberies have
involved carjackings, gunfire, and other violence. Mayor Sheng Tao of Oakland stated that while her
administration will increase assistance for children, she also wishes to convey that these fire and other violence. Mayor Sheng Tao of Oakland stated that while her administration
will increase assistance for children, she also wishes to convey that these crimes will not be
tolerated. Police apprehended nine underage youth on Sunday after spotting a vehicle wanted in
connection with one of the earlier robberies. During Sanford 34, interested in buying property
in Alaska, stays with family friends in Fairbanks during his property search.
Sanford's beloved Rottweiler, Groot, somehow escapes from the home.
Sanford walks the neighborhood looking for Groot but never returns.
There's been no activity on Sanford's cell phone or bank account since.
Alaska State troopers say they received a tip a Rottweiler, possibly Groot,
was taken to a shelter. Due to
aggressive behavior, the dog was euthanized, then cremated, so there's no way to determine
if this was in fact Sanford's dog. If you have any information on Doran Sanford's whereabouts,
