Crime Alert, I'm Nancy Grace, breaking crime news now.
A Mississippi mom brings her three children home after school.
A few minutes later, they hear banging on the front door.
Outside is Stephen Goss, armed with a knife.
When he sees people inside, he tries to break through the front door.
The mom grabs a gun and hides with her children in a
closet. Goss then rams his truck through a wall to get inside. When he flings open the closet door,
mom shoots him in the arm and he runs away. Nancy, we're now learning that Goss lived next
door to the family and was seeking revenge for a previous incident. Months earlier,
the family called police when Goss fired a gun
in the air and he was charged with being a felon in possession of a gun. Goss was free on bail at
the time of the attack. It's unclear how, but the father learned what was happening and called 911
from work, giving officers Goss' description and his vehicle. When cops caught up with Goss,
he ran into a grocery store where he was apprehended and taken to the hospital for his gunshot wound.
Stephen Goss, 42, charged with burglary and four counts attempted murder.
Demarcus Davis, 20, wears shackles in the back of a jail van when he's transported to a different jail in Shelby County, Tennessee.
In the middle of the drive, he makes a break for it, hopping out of the car and
taking off on foot. But he doesn't make it far. A winter storm with snow and temperatures in the
20s makes him rethink the great escape. After 45 minutes out in the elements, he flags down a
passing driver and asks them to call police to pick him up. That gives a whole new
meaning to two hots and a cop. More crime and justice news after this. Now with the latest
crime and justice breaking news, Crime Online's John Limley. A man has been charged with four
counts of capital murder by an Alabama grand jury in connection with the murders of his brother, grandparents,
and a family friend in 2023. Here's Sydney Sumner of Crime Online with more.
According to our friends with AL.com, 22-year-old Jared Terrence Smith Bracey of Bay Minette was
indicted by a Mobile County grand jury for the alleged killings. Police reports detail how Smith
Bracey shot and killed his 72-year-old
grandmother, Barbara Smith, his 27-year-old brother, Jeremy Smith, and 71-year-old family
friend, Sheila Glover. The bodies of the three were discovered in the Daphne, Alabama backyard
on February 23, 2023. Additionally, officials have announced that Smith Bracey is suspected
of beating his 80-year-old grandfather, Leonard Leonard Smith to death inside a bedroom of the home with a pickaxe. This from our friends at WPMI-TV.
Smith-Bracy entered a not guilty plea citing a mental defect at his arraignment in February of
2023. Court documents indicate that a psychiatric assessment was mandated that same month.
No motive for the murders has been revealed. Smith-Bracy was arrested earlier on the day of the killings on suspicion of criminal mischief
after it was reported that he had damaged a door at the family's residence, prompting a police report.
Police added that after he successfully bonded out of jail that day, he was driven back to the house by a friend,
subsequently killing three of his victims using the driver's revolver.
After hearing gunshots, police say the driver, whose name has not been made public, reportedly contacted 911 and drove immediately to a police
station. Following the formal indictment, Smith-Bracy will remain in custody without
bond while the case progresses. Smith-Bracy could receive the death penalty if found guilty.
After receiving a 30-year federal prison sentence for using a hammer to beat Nancy Pelosi's
husband inside their San Francisco home, David DePapp has returned to court to face state charges,
including attempted murder. Once again, Crime Online's Sydney Sumner. In November of 2023,
a federal jury found the 44-year-old DePapp guilty of attempting to take Nancy Pelosi hostage and
injuring her husband, Paul Pelosi, after breaking into their home on October 28, 2022. DePapp was
in search of Nancy Pelosi, who was then serving as Speaker of the House. A federal judge subsequently
sentenced him to 30 years in jail. According to our friends with the San Francisco Chronicle,
Assistant San Francisco District Attorney Sean Connolly talked about the elderly's vulnerability and the sanctity of one's home
in his opening remarks. In addition, he presented the jurors with a picture of Paul Pelosi covered
in blood following the attack. Paul Pelosi was attacked when he was 82 years old.
DePapp was charged by the San Francisco District Attorney with attempted murder,
assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, residential burglary, false imprisonment, endangering the life or serious bodily harm
of a public official, and posing a threat to the family or staff of a public official in the state
case. DePapp entered a not guilty plea. The newspaper has reported that Adam Lipson, the San
Francisco deputy public defender representing DePapp, informed the jury that DePapp had been
withdrawing from society and delving further into conspiracy theories in the months preceding the assault. Lipson also
stated that DePapp was diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder, a mental illness marked by
a disinterest in social interactions. Thanks, John. Heather Tift lives with her mother in Hot Springs,
