Andrew Beard and fiance Holly Elkins plot to quote, get rid of Alyssa Burkett, the mother of Beard's child. Elkins helps Beard purchase a van and makeup to disguise himself for a planned attack on Alyssa. Elkins watches Beard's son while Beard drives to Alyssa's workplace and waits till she gets in her car. Beard shoots Alyssa Burkett in the head and stabs her dead. Nancy, two weeks prior to the murder, Elkins purchased a GPS tracker for Beard to place on Burkett's car and later planted drugs and a gun with no serial number in Burkett's trunk. Beard then called police and
Starting point is 00:00:45 falsely reported Burkett was selling drugs. Beard claimed he was home with Elkins at the time of the attack, but eventually confessed to all of these crimes. Beard, 36, gets 43 years behind bars. Elkins, 32, now facing charges of conspiracy to stalk, stalking with a dangerous weapon resulting in death. Delaware cops pull over Jamal Wing for speeding. He gets out of the car despite officers' order to stay put. One officer brings out a police dog to encourage Wing to cooperate, but instead, Wing attacks the dog, biting the dog multiple times and fighting officer attempts to intervene. Wing finally subdued, charged with assaulting an officer,

Now with the latest crime and justice breaking news, Crime Online's John Limley. We begin in New York, where a Brooklyn man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after allegedly shooting and killing an elderly man and wounding three other men while riding a scooter in New York City. With the latest, here's Sydney Sumner with Crime Online. According to police, there were a total of six seemingly random shootings in both Brooklyn and Queens. 25-year-old Thomas Abreu has been identified as the alleged shooter, although his motive is still unclear. Abreu was apprehended by police without incident. Authorities say that after the first gunshot, the New York Police Department sent officers
Starting point is 00:02:14 a photo of the shooter for use in identifying the suspect. The officers found him a few hours later. Police seized a scooter and a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine. Abreu now stands accused of murder, two charges of attempted murder, and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon. The shootings began in Brooklyn shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday. That's when a 21-year-old man was shot in the shoulder. According to authorities, the man was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive. Shortly thereafter, in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens, Abreu is said to have shot an 86-year-old man who later died in the hospital. In all, police say there were six total shootings with two additional victims, both taken to area hospitals. One man was in critical

Law enforcement from local, state, and federal agencies are on the lookout for a, quote, very dangerous prisoner who used bedsheets to escape from a jail in northwest Pennsylvania. According to authorities, 34-year-old Michael Burnham escaped from a Warren jail by scaling exercise equipment and using bed linens to climb down from a window. Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police says that Burnham is charged with kidnapping, burglary, and other offenses. Warren police say that he is also a suspect in a homicide investigation. An Oklahoma judge has dismissed a lawsuit seeking compensation for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre,
Starting point is 00:03:38 putting an end to survivors' attempts to receive some form of legal justice. Once again, Crime Online's Sydney Sumner. The lawsuit seeking compensation for the devastation of the once-vibrant black neighborhood known as Greenwood was dismissed with prejudice by Judge Caroline Wall. The ruling relates to a lawsuit brought by three attack survivors, all over 100 years old, who sued in 2020 in the hopes of obtaining what their lawyer called justice in their lifetime. The full court ruling has not yet been sent to the city, this according to Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum. The mayor declared that the city, quote,
Starting point is 00:04:16 remains committed to finding the graves of 1921 Tulsa race massacre victims, encouraging economic investment in the Greenwood District, educating future generations about the worst event in our community's history, and building a city where every person has an equal opportunity for a great life. The survivor's attorney has not said whether his clients plan to appeal. However, a group backing the lawsuit claimed they will probably appeal Wall's decision. Kayalana Turner's behavior becomes erratic after a medication change. Turner, diagnosed with PTSD, gets prescribed a higher dose, but then tells her parents she hasn't slept for days. Kayalana heads to Austin to visit a
Starting point is 00:04:53 friend, but doesn't know the way. Thinking she's arrived in Austin, she stops in a Houston suburb and knocks on doors looking for her friend's home, eventually parking in a stranger's driveway and falling asleep in her car. The homeowner calls cops. When officers check on her, she locks the car door. The officer breaks the window, and that's when Turner drives off. When police find her car again, tracks show Kayalana Turner ran into the woods barefoot. She's now been missing four months.
