When Leon County, Texas sheriffs get a missing person report for a mom, Mahogany Washington, and her eight-year-old son, they immediately suspect foul play from the boyfriend, the child's father, Michael Davis. He's got an extensive criminal record and violent tendencies. Deputies search his home and find the boy unharmed, but then discover Mahogany's remains. Nancy, family members had not heard from Mahogany in nearly two years, but due to their usual low contact, did not report her missing until just a few months ago. Washington and Davis had been together for more than 10 years,
Starting point is 00:00:43 despite friends and family's distaste for Davis. After learning of Washington's death, friends took to social media to express their heartbreak. One addressing Davis said, She trusted you, even though her family didn't. Investigators have not revealed how Washington was killed or how long ago she died. Michael Davis, 27, charged with murder. Oregon's Elephant's delicatessen employees in and out of a running delivery truck loading it up for the day when a man jumps in the cab and takes off. An employee still in the cargo area forced to jump from the back as the thief speeds away. Police eventually
Starting point is 00:01:19 catch up to the truck using its own GPS device, but the driver won't stop. During the chase, the driver rams the truck into a patrol car and then flees on foot. With the help of a canine, Forrest Guayante, 29, is handcuffed for car theft, reckless endangerment, eluding, hit and run, and surprise, possession of meth. More crime and justice news after this. Now with the latest crime and justice breaking news, Crime Online's John Limley. The trial for George Billy Wagner III, the last of four family members charged in the 2016 murders of eight members of the Roden family in Southern Ohio Ohio will be moved to a different county. A visiting judge granted the request, citing the small population of Pike County and the extensive media coverage which could compromise finding an impartial jury. Wagner has pleaded not guilty to charges
Starting point is 00:02:18 including aggravated murder. Prosecutors allege the killings, which took place at four separate homes, were sparked by a custody dispute. This case triggered one of Ohio's most extensive criminal investigations. Wagner's wife, Angela, and their youngest son, Edward Jake Wagner, have already pleaded guilty. Jake Wagner's testimony was part of a deal to spare the family potential death sentences. Both are set for sentencing next month. Meanwhile, their older son, George Wagner IV, was convicted in 2022 and is serving eight consecutive life sentences. In Florida, a 60-year-old woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the fatal shooting of her neighbor, a 35-year-old black mother of four.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Here's Crime Online's Sydney Sumner with details. Susan Lawrence was convicted of manslaughter for killing a G.K. A.J. Owens on June 2, 2023, during an escalating neighborhood dispute in Ocala, a small city northwest of Orlando. Authorities say Lawrence fired a.380-caliber handgun through her locked door, striking Owens in the chest as she confronted Lawrence over an earlier altercation involving Owens' children. Witnesses testified that Lawrence had a history of harassing neighborhood children using racial slurs and had thrown a roller skate at Owens' 10-year-old son shortly before the shooting.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Owens was unarmed at the time of her death. During sentencing, Judge Robert Hodges emphasized that Lawrence had ample opportunity to call law enforcement instead of resorting to violence. Prosecutors had faced criticism for initially charging Lawrence with manslaughter instead of murder and for not immediately arresting her after the shooting. The case also drew attention to Florida's Stand Your Ground law, a controversial statute allowing the use of lethal force in self-defense. Lawrence's attorneys argued she feared for her life, but a jury composed entirely of white jurors rejected her claim. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing Owen's family, called the verdict, quote, a critical step in securing justice. Owen's family continues to mourn the devastating loss, with her young son, a witness to the shooting, still grappling with the
Starting point is 00:04:25 trauma. Thanks, John. LaShonda Spurlock, 42, lives with her mom, Nellie Fletcher, in Society Hill, South Carolina, for support with her learning disabilities. But LaShonda enjoys an independent life, leaving the house on her own to meet up with friends and always telling mom Nellie where she's going and when she'll be back. On April 29, she walks away from the home without saying anything to mom. A neighbor reports seeing her get into an older model red sedan with two men, possibly Asian. Nellie does not recognize the description as anyone LaShonda would know. LaShonda never comes home. Her phone goes straight to voicemail.
