Crime Alert, I'm Nancy Grace breaking crime news now.
Our Jennifer Gold standing by Jennifer.
Nancy, the world gasped in 1984 when Mary Lou Breton flipped her way to Olympic gold.
But newly released body cam footage from her May DUI arrest in West Virginia
paints a heart-wrenching picture of a fallen icon.
Take a listen.
He's too young to know who I am.
I mean really? Are you? I know who you are.
I know. I know you know who I am.
Come on. I gotta do my job no matter who you are.
Oh my god. What's your first daughter?
The 57 year old gymnastics legend once's sweetheart, was caught on tape, disheveled,
and emotional as police cuffed her.
Officers responded to reports of Retton's Porsche swerving erratically on Interstate
64.
Court documents reveal a screw-top bottle of wine in her car.
She slurred her words, defiantly refused a
breathalyzer test and stumbled through field sobriety tests, prompting her
immediate arrest. The raw body cam footage captures Retton desperately
invoking her Olympic fame, proclaiming, quote, I'm a gold medalist, end quote, as
officers secured handcuffs around her oxygen tank. At one point she bizarrely
remarked that the arrest would quote be good for the book end quote and she even
managed a brief strange smile when an officer jokingly suggested her
gymnastics skills might aid sobriety tests. However her mood quickly shifted
to distress when placed under arrest. Here's more of the body cam. Take a listen.
Go ahead and put your hands around your back for me.
No!
Yeah, you're under arrest.
No, I'm not!
Don't be hitting. Come on.
Oh my God!
No.
No.
Please don't.
Oh my God. Her mug shots also released show her with puffy tear filled eyes wearing a simple yellow t-shirt and gold jewelry,
a stark painful contrast to the poised polished image of a triumphant Olympic champion.
Retton has since pleaded no contest to DUI charges.
This deeply troubling incident marks a distressing chapter for the Olympic champ who in 2023
battled a rare and severe form of pneumonia requiring reliance on an oxygen tank.
Retton entered a no contest plea to a non-aggravated DUI charge and was slapped with a $100 fine,
standard for first time non-aggravated offenses in
West Virginia.
Following her arrest, Retton told People in a statement issued through her attorney, quote,
"'What happened was completely unacceptable.
I make no excuses to my family, friends and my fans.
I have let you down, and for that I am deeply sorry.'"
End quote.

More Crime and Justice news after this. A Texas man has admitted to a horrifying plot against his dementia-stricken wife culminating
in her brutal murder.
Justin Davidson, 46, of Fort Worth, faces first-degree murder charges after allegedly
confessing to a calculated scheme involving drugged slushies and smothering
to end the life of his wife, Danielle Crosby Davidson, 47. This chilling narrative unfolds
from court documents following her death at an Arizona dementia care facility. Danielle,
who was receiving long-term treatment for advanced dementia at the Eternal Spring of Gilbert facility,
was found dead in her room. Her husband Davidson was staying with her at the time.
Facility staff quickly grew suspicious noting Danielle's health had
dramatically deteriorated since Davidson arrived. They also reported that Davidson,
a California resident, had allegedly stated he did not want them to feed his
wife and repeatedly locked her room door
despite being told not to, preventing routine checks.
The alarm was truly raised when staff found Danielle dead, observing bruising on the side
of her neck and disturbingly a blue tongue.
Police were immediately called and it reportedly did not take long for Davidson to confess. Investigators learned of Davidson's initial failed attempt to end Danielle's
life. He allegedly admitted to crushing 50 to 60 oxycodone pills which were
previously prescribed to her and feeding them to her in her food despite the
massive dose Danielle did not die immediately. Undeterred, Davidson allegedly then confessed to a second, more lethal plan.
He bought over-the-counter sleeping pills from Target and dissolved them in a blue-flavored
frozen ice drink from an Arizona fast food joint which he gave to Danielle.
He then allegedly smothered her with a pillow until she stopped breathing.
The blue slushie is believed to be the reason
for her blue tongue observed by medical staff.
Court records also revealed that Davidson
had previous police involvement with his wife
during their time together in Southern California.
Now Davidson has been booked into the Maricopa County Jail
where he is being held on a million dollar bond
as a flight risk. His next court date
is set for August 11th.
And finally, in a heart-stopping display of courage and quick thinking, Georgia police
officers became real-life heroes, shattering a car window to pluck two vulnerable toddlers
from a sweltering car averting a potential tragedy in a bustling mall parking lot.
Bodycam footage captures the dramatic incident at Cumberland Mall where
internal temperatures had soared to a life-threatening 117 degrees Fahrenheit
with incredible tenderness. An officer unbuckles a little boy, his convoy
soothing as the child cries, subsided. Take a listen.
The heroic rescue began when a vigilant shopper hearing desperate cries alerted 911. Time, of
course, was critical. Without hesitation, an officer delivered a precise blow to the window, allowing immediate access. Both children were carried to safety and
received medical evaluations. The father, Jaquan Dixon, was arrested and charged
with two counts of cruelty and released on bond. While we celebrate the heroism
and give thanks to these precious children that they are safe, this serves
as a crucial reminder that please never leave
children or pets or elderly unattended in a vehicle,
even for a moment.
