A week-long preliminary hearing concluded Friday
for the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Utah County prosecutors aimed to show enough evidence
against 23-year-old Tyler Robinson
to proceed to trial for the September 10th aggravated murder
on the Utah Valley University campus.
the state is actively seeking the death penalty.
Robinson's lawyers called a final witness trying to raise doubts about the prosecution's case.
The defense previously challenged the reliability of ballistics tests on a bullet fragment recovered from Kirk's body,
which an ATF expert labeled inconclusive.
They also fought the release of a recorded interview with Robinson's roommate and boyfriend, Lance Twiggs,
and private discord chat messages Robinson wrote.
On Friday, defense attorney Michael Burt,
grilled ATF section chief Caitlin Oliver about testing on an unknown item. Judge Graff ruled no further
exhibits would be shown in court or via live stream after cameras accidentally flashed photos of a burned
note Robinson wrote to Twigs. Graff had previously blocked the notes public release.
Bert used Oliver's testimony to highlight DNA limitations, noting government policies don't allow
analysts to call DNA evidence infalliable. Oliver admitted third-party DNA transfer
is possible, agreeing that shaking hands could migrate genetic material onto a weapons trigger.
Deputy Utah County Attorney Chad Gruninder questioned her relevance, stating prosecutors already met their
burden through four days of overwhelming testimony. Judge Graff will rule on the trial advancement
after reviewing transcripts and written briefs. Oral arguments are set for September 1st. Robinson
has yet to enter a plea. Next, a North Carolina couple accused of performing
exorcisms on their adopted children will spend decades in prison after pleading guilty to the
murder and abuse of their four-year-old son, Skyler Wilson. Joseph Paul Wilson, 45, and Jody Ann Wilson,
42, pleaded guilty in Surrey County Superior Court to second-degree murder and child abuse-related
charges. Both were sentenced to 32 to 40 years in prison and waived their rights to appeal.
The Wilson's used dangerous disciplinary methods learned from alternative.
parenting books, which escalated to prolonged physical restraint with duct tape.
On January 5, 23, Jody wrapped Skyler in a bed sheet and used duct tape to restrain him
face down on the floor of their Mount Airy home for several hours.
Joseph knew of the restraint and had purchased duct tape and bandages earlier that day for that
purpose. When Joseph returned home for lunch and found Skyler restrained, he left him there and
went back to work.
After Jody eventually released Skyler and realized he was severely injured, she messaged her husband to hurry home.
Joseph later called 911, reporting Skyler was having a seizure, while Jody could be heard in the background saying,
It's my fault.
Emergency personnel found Skyler unresponsive.
He died four days later at Brenner's Children's Hospital after being removed from life support.
An autopsy determined Skyler died from a hypoxic ischemic brain injury caused by confirmed.
Impressional and positional asphyxia from prolonged restraint with starvation ketoacidosis as a contributing factor.
A former foster parent had reported concerns to social services less than a month before his death.

A chaotic scene in Summit County ended Tuesday night with the arrest of Julius Edwards,
a man wanted for attempted murder, who led police on a multi-jerk.
jurisdictional pursuit, including onto a golf course. The violent chain of events began around
6 a.m. in Canton, where police responded to a home and found a 33-year-old woman bleeding from
apparent stab wounds on the second floor, with a large knife protruding through her right arm.
Officers found a blood trail leading to the driveway, and a male voice came through the front-door
ring camera identifying himself as Edwards, stating he wanted to kill her and believed he did.
hours later troopers spotted Edwards driving a gray Kia Telluride. He fled, initiating a pursuit.
Edwards ran a red light on Terrick's road, causing a serious crash that injured multiple people.
Edwards then fled on foot, fired at a pursuing trooper, and vanished into the woods.
He then carjacked a silver Chrysler Town and Country minivan, sparking a second pursuit.
Edwards drove the stolen minivan directly through the Fox Den golf course in Stowe,
forcing golfers to flee.
News 5 Cleveland spoke with golfers
Logan Conrove and Joe Messina
about the terrifying encounter.
It was coming right at us too,
and my girlfriend was driving the cart,
and I was like, you've got to move the cart.
You've got to move off the left.
I thought he was going to flatten
either my cart or Joe's.
I'm glad we were able to get out of the way
and come out unscathed.
The chase continued through nearby properties.
Resident Michael Burroughs described the moment
the pursuit tore through his property to News 5 Cleveland.
And I heard these sirens and he could hear them.
It sounded like they were in my yard.
Well, they were in my yard.
He kept going through.
And then he went out on the road and you can see the skid marks out there.
He made a quick left.
The pursuit ended near Saybrook Boulevard when Edwards crashed into a summit metro parks police cruiser,
totaling it and causing it to roll over.
The officer managed to jump out of his vehicle just eight seconds before impact,
suffering only minor injuries.
Edwards attempted to run but was captured by Stowe Police and State.
troopers. He is now in custody while his stabbing victim recovers in a hospital.
