Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed human. Crime alert, hourly update. Breaking Crime News now. I'm Sidney. A horrifying and senseless act of violence has left an elderly community pillar hospitalized in Georgia.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Shortly after 9 a.m. local time on Wednesday, East Point Police Department officers rushed to Washington Road near Camp Creek Parkway following reports of a shooting. There, they discovered 75-year-old Dorothy Gordon lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Dorothy wasn't just passing by. She was actively distributing food to the local community when she was struck down. The dedicated volunteer was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where she remained sedated
Starting point is 00:00:45 as doctors wait for her pain to subside before attempting to remove the bullet. Her son, Justin Gordon, spoke to WSVTV about the sheer madness of the attack. Nobody's sane with shoot at 9 o'clock in the morning. It's always got to be somebody way out. It's just shooting that somebody. Investigators reviewing surveillance video made a chilling discovery. The footage reveals a flash coming from a tree in the woods directly across from the gas station at the exact moment Dorothy collapsed. Police now believe the sniper opened fire from high up in those tree branches. It remains completely unclear if the shooter targeted Dorothy specifically or was aiming for someone else entirely. Her son shared that Dorothy herself recognized how close she came to
Starting point is 00:01:28 death, noting that if the bullet had hit her chest, it would have been fatal. Meanwhile, detectives are actively processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and scrubbing local business footage. Justin Gordon emphasized to WSVTV that the community is outraged by the targeting of a woman whose mission was purely altruistic. People who she helps, they were mad, too, because she was trying to do it just, she was just trying to help people. What makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking is that Dorothy's community work is entirely self-funded, a labor of love, born straight from her own pocket, as her son detailed to WSBTV. She goes to public, she gets her from there, and she just, they donates it to people.

Next, we turn to Texas, where a pediatric dentist faces major criminal charges following the tragic death of a four-year-old girl.
Starting point is 00:03:02 According to an arrest warrant, 48-year-old Chrishell Hemphill was arrested on Wednesday, charged with serious bodily injury to a child. The charges stem from an April 1st procedure at Cuddle Kids Dental, where Hemphill performed a phrenectomy to correct four-year-old Ithana Rodriguez Ariaga's tongue tie. Investigators allege that during the operation, Hemphill administered a lethal combination
Starting point is 00:03:25 of medications, including nitrous oxide and the heavy opioid myparodine, widely known as Demerol. Little itana never woke up. Though Hemphill and another dentist attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the child was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital. The medical examiner later ruled the official cause of death as Meparidine toxicity. A consulting doctor informed detectives at the concentration of the drug in the little girl system was profoundly toxic even by adult standards. While a therapeutic adult dose typically ranges between 200 and 500 nanograms per milliliter, Ithana's toxicology report revealed a staggering 793 nanograms per milliliter. Furthermore, the affidavit reveals critical medical mismanagement during the crisis. Rather than administering
Starting point is 00:04:14 Narcan to reverse the respiratory depression caused by the opioid, staff allegedly gave flumazenal, a drug designed to reverse benzodiazepines, which the child hadn't even even, but the child, received. The investigating detective concluded there was evident fatal neglect on Hemphill's part, citing both the toxic overdose and the failure to recognize respiratory distress in time. Finally, a bizarre confrontation on the Virginia Beach Ocean Front has landed a self-proclaimed martial arts master behind bars. Timothy Allen Weigert faces eight charges, including simple assault on a law enforcement officer after a viral video showed him launching a spinning kick at an officer on July 5th. Speaking to 13 news now from jail, Weigert claimed he deliberately missed,
Starting point is 00:05:02 insisting he was merely showing mercy to the police. I wanted to let them know that I was being merciful by not knocking him the out, cold on the sand, and riding past him on the one wheel. The wild sequence began after Weigert fled an earlier street fight on a motorized one-wheel skateboard. When police pursued, Weigert threw the high kick before being instantly tackled into the sand. Weigert bragged to 13 news now about his skills. Sensei of Senses, I was the CEO of a multi-million dollar marshalets company. This officer was fat and slow and running on sand. Easiest target ever. I had 18 different ways I could have hit him. And I want everyone to know, including the police. I did not want to hurt anyone.
Starting point is 00:05:52 I did not want to kick anyone. I knew it would not make the situation better. Weigert, who has prior charges for stalking and assault, remains held without bond. Incredibly, he claimed that if released, he could fix the city's issues, if given a high-ranking position, as told to 13 News now. The payer of Virginia Beach, I don't know, gives me a chance to be the chief of police of Virginia Beach, and I will turn it around. Weigert's preliminary hearing is scheduled for early September.
