An extended standoff in Nashville ended in bloodshed after SWAT officers fatally shot a sword-wielding man holding a woman captive inside his vehicle. Metro Nashville Police report that 54-year-old Jason William Sexton died at Skyline Medical Center following Saturday's confrontation on Cheshire Drive.

The horrific series of events began at a shell market on Charlotte Avenue when Sexton engaged in a heated argument with the store clerk over payment for a cup of coffee. Sexton briefly drove away, only to return, brandishing a full-size sword. When the terrified clerk locked the store doors, Sexton reportedly shouted, Come outside now, I will kill you, prompting law enforcement to issue a felony-agravated assault warrant. Roughly an hour later, a concerned family member placed a frantic call to emergency dispatchers warning that Sexton was armed, erratic, and broadcasting dangerous threats online, as heard

in this emergency call. And he posted a video earlier saying he was going to do what? I'm getting ready to post a video of all hell breaking loose because somebody assaulted him over a cup of coffee. He's going to turn into a Jedi. Following that emergency call, a police helicopter spotted Sexton's Hyundai sedan near a car wash on Dickerson Pike, tracking the vehicle until it came to a stop on Cheshire Drive. Ground units immediately surrounded the car. Carrying the sword, Sexton stepped out of the vehicle and began aggressively screaming at officers, while a 26-year-old female passenger remained trapped inside. For over an hour, patrol officers attempted to de-escalate the volatile situation and persuaded. sexton to surrender. However, the terror escalated when the woman communicated to officers that she was being held against her will. SWAT officers were called to manage the high-risk hostage crisis. Twelve-year police veteran Joshua Baney positioned his vehicle behind the suspect, stepped out,

and discharged three rounds, as captured on body cam audio. Look out. Go! The female hostage was rescued. harmed. In the immediate aftermath, Metro Nashville police chief John Drake decommissioned Officer Baney, stripping him of all police authority, while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducts an independent review for District Attorney General Glenn Funk. Local authorities had also been actively attempting to execute outstanding warrants on Sexton for protective order violations and fleeing from the police the previous day. Kovberger previously pleaded guilty to the brutal November 22 stabbings of University of Idaho students, Madison Mogan, Kaley Gensalves, Zana Kurnodl, and Ethan Schapen to avoid execution, receiving four consecutive life sentences. Rouch argues that Judge Hibler demonstrated clear bias during sentencing, pointing directly to Judge Hibler's scathing assessment during sentencing. Nazia Linnae Weatherall, who stands accused of an attack on a ride chair driver. Public court records indicate Weatherall ordered a lift on April 22nd, and upon the driver's arrival, allegedly stabbed him 11 times before stealing his vehicle. The victim was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries. During Friday's bond hearing, the victim's wife delivered emotional testimony, describing the trauma inflicted on her family while her husband was simply doing his job. Wetherall faces severe charges, including attempted murder and carjacking. While Lyft confirmed the suspect's account has been permanently banned, defense attorneys argue Wetherall was suffering from severe schizophrenia delusions in attempting to flee perceived threats. Her mother offered heartfelt

apologies in court, maintaining the violent act was entirely out of character. The judge ruled weatherall will remain incarcerated pending a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation scheduled for September.
