Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an iHeart Podcast. that she doesn't know much about the last two hours of the two-year-old Kaylee's life. To your understanding, how did she die? I don't know. You don't know. Something about drowning, possibly. Everyone else has their theories. I don't know. Uh-huh. So your parents had her?
Starting point is 00:00:34 My dad did. Next thing you know, she's missing. Right? How did it play? I did what I was told. I don't remember too much of what happened. Casey Anthony's dad thinks that his daughter drugged Kaylee so she could just go off and party. Gave too much to Kaylee, she fell asleep and didn't wake up.
Starting point is 00:00:53 That's what I feel. Right now, this is the most agitated and frustrated that I've been, even when I've sat with Jose and I watched that episode of Nancy Grace. We all know that Tot Mom Casey Anthony was accused, tried, and acquitted in the murder of her little two-year-old girl, Kelly Anthony. But what about Tot Mom Casey Anthony's other victims? How many people did she hurt? How many hearts did she break? How many victims does she really have? I'm Nancy Grace. This is Crime Stories. Thank you for being with us. The words, my heart hurts. In the last days, Tot Mom Casey Anthony's father, George Anthony, breaks his silence after his daughter, Tot Mom Casey Anthony, says in her first interview since she was acquitted that he, George Anthony, was watching the Tot when she went missing. Now,
Starting point is 00:01:57 you know, she has cast blame in so many directions, but to lash out yet again at her parents. You know, George and Cindy Anthony are now back in the spotlight. Painful memories now being dredged up yet again. Memories they were trying to put behind them, trying to get over, trying to heal. When out of the blue, top mom Casey Anthony just can't go away for Pete's sake, crashes back onto the media scene in another interview, damning her father, George Anthony. Now, let me tell you, the way I recall the Anthonys were portrayed at the time that little Kelly went missing. I remember one particular video clip. It was of George screaming at the media, and as I recall, Cindy, his wife, was right there with him to get off of his yard. You know what? It was played over and over and over, and he just looked crazy. When I think
Starting point is 00:03:02 about that clip, though, when I think about the way George and Cindy were portrayed, do you blame them? I mean, the thing they loved the most in the world, two-year-old Kelly, was dead, gone, and their daughter, their only daughter, suspected of murder. Then to have the media camping out, literally getting up in their front yard. They couldn't come in or out without being harassed and harangued.
Starting point is 00:03:31 I guess they did yell. And that was the little capsule, the snapshot of George Anthony and Cindy Anthony that everyone saw. But I want to tell you about the first time I met with them. They were nothing like that at all. They were kind and gracious and decent people, and they knew what I thought about their daughter, and they defended their daughter, yet they were very, very kind to me. I remember we sat down in a restaurant, and they could not have been more civil, more open. Their love for Kelly was utmost, and it was that love, I believe, that led to the final night Kelly was in the home with
Starting point is 00:04:17 them alive. So I want to first dispel to you the way Cindy and George Anthony have been portrayed in the media. It's crazy, trashy, volatile, redneck, not likable at all. They were not like that at all. I promise you, nothing like that at all. I'm just thinking back to the time of the trial of Tot Mom and the way everything went down. At the time, Kelly disappeared. In my mind, was killed. She was living off her mom and dad. Now, she was well up in her 20s. She had had this baby. She wouldn't say who the father was, so there was no way of getting child support from whoever the father was, and her parents totally financially and emotionally supported her. Now, she had the baby, and Cindy and George took care of the baby, took care of Keely as if she were their own child, while top mom would go out partying. Now, listen to this. She would tell them
Starting point is 00:05:23 she was going to work at Universal Studios. As I recall, she had a fake ID or a badge or an outfit or something to make them think she really did have a job at Universal. But whether she had a badge or not is irrelevant. She told them she had a job and would actually like pretend to leave during the day. I don't know where she went, but of course she didn't have the baby with her. And the rest of the time she was just like chillaxing, laying on the sofa, having chips and dips and watching TV while they supported her and took care of her baby. So that was a scenario that had been going on for a long time. We know she wouldn't finish school and get a degree or go to work for Pete's sake you know
Starting point is 00:06:06 I've been working at least two jobs since I was 15 okay so to hear her chillaxing with their feet up on the coffee table at her parents house while the two of them work to support her and her baby that's not right but that's a whole nother of worms. So just get this mental image of top mom kicked back on the sofa watching TV, faking her job at Universal as George and Cindy work to support their grown daughter living at home. Now, the day that Kelly goes missing, this is what happens. There was a horrible, horrible argument that night, that day, between Cindy and top mom Casey Anthony. And at the root of every argument, it was about Kelly. The way she was or was not raising Kelly and being a decent mom to Kelly. Cindy and George wanted the baby. They wanted to be able to take care of the baby. But that night, just to spite
Starting point is 00:07:07 her mother, I to this day believe, top mom Casey Anthony has this huge fight and Casey leaves, stomps out. Top mom Casey Anthony leaves the house, stomps out with the baby just to twist the knife in Cindy's back because there goes the thing she loves the most, the baby. Kelly was never seen alive again after that volatile argument with her mother. I mean, ungrateful? Oh, gosh. I remember when I was trying to go to law school. My parents, of course, you know, been working their whole lives. My father on the railroad. My mom had worked her way from a bank teller to a CFO of a company for Pete's sake. And there was no way I was going to ask them to pay for law school tuition. And I remember going and taking out those loans and loans and loans and loans and working.
Starting point is 00:07:58 I remember mopping a floor at a sandwich shop and cleaning the commodes and the bathrooms. And top mom did not have a problem taking from her parents and not just living off of them. But some people believe taking money from wallets and, you know, just using them. Those are allegations that have never been proven at trial. So that evening, she storms out with the baby. The baby's never seen alive again. You know, Alan, before I go any further with this story and top mom Casey Anthony's other victims, I want to thank Simply Safe, our sponsor, for being with us today. Alan, I want to get back to Todd Mom and her other victims. Todd Mom and the baby, Kelly, are now gone, say, a month. And then suddenly Cindy Anthony at their home gets a notice that her car has been towed. It's at the tow shop. So she goes to get it. When she opens it up, she is just knocked out by the smell. And when she calls 911, she is the one that triggers the entire investigation into where is Kelly. She calls about after opening the car and she says on the on the call the damn car smells like a dead body. That really triggered the whole
Starting point is 00:10:15 thing. Then it turns out all of Top Mom's lies begin to be uncovered. Her lies about her brother, her father. She basically gets arrested for not reporting Kelly missing. Now, remember she was arrested. This is something, Alan, that I learned. There was a person basically with her all the time from the bonding company, a female. And so Top Mom gets arrested and makes bail pretty quickly on, I guess, a nature of child neglect or mistreating a child for not reporting Kelly being missing and basically making the circumstances so that the child would be able to be, quote, kidnapped. She gets out. She comes in that night, walks in from the jail on this first charge, and walks in and says, hey, I'm home. What's for supper? What? Now, that is what the Bonds people told me off the record at the time. Now, it's on the record, but it doesn't matter anymore because
Starting point is 00:11:22 she's been acquitted, but she walked in. Not one thing about, where's Kelly? Have you heard anything? What's the latest? What can you tell me? I'm sick. No, she walks in and says, I'm starved. What did you cook for supper? What's for dinner?
Starting point is 00:11:37 That is where her head was. Not one thing about Kelly. That just struck me. After that, you know, the parents tried to stand by her, tried to take care of her, still paying for all of her expenses, still trying to believe in her innocence. And I recall distinctly, Alan, do you remember those jailhouse videos in Florida and some of the jails? Your visits are recorded. And when her mom would
Starting point is 00:12:08 try to ask her about when was the last time you saw Kelly, what happened? They were trying so desperately to believe her. She tore her mother and father a new tail hole, okay? Just ripped into them, screaming at them. It's all on video, and I was just stunned. I mean, here are parents coming to see her in jail. They want to find out about where Kelly is, what could possibly have happened. Hello, your daughter killed her, but they're trying to ask her very gently, I might add, and she unleashes on them like nobody's business. The ungrateful behavior toward her parents, plus obviously skating the issue, ducking the question. But it also made me think if she would treat grown people like that in public, what would she do to her daughter all alone? Okay, a two-year-old little girl. Nancy, I have that audio. And in fact, in this clip, Casey Anthony tells her parents that she is so angry at them for pressing her for more information about what might
Starting point is 00:13:17 have happened to Kaylee that she says she was even more angry at them, her parents, than she was at you, Nancy Grace, for things you were saying about her on television. Mom, I know what I'm honestly up against. Do you guys understand what I'm honestly up against? And with keeping me here, you're not helping me help myself. I'm sorry to say that. Huh?
Starting point is 00:13:41 We don't have the means to get you out anyway, sweetheart. We don't have the means to get you out anyway, sweetheart. We don't. I understand that, but the opportunity was there, and it wasn't taken advantage of, and... We didn't have an opportunity. I don't know where you're hearing this. Just give dad the phone, please. I'm sorry. I don't want to get frustrated. Just give dad the phone.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Hey, sweetie. This is seriously the first time that I've been angry. That I've been this frustrated to where I can't even think straight at this moment. Throughout this entire thing, I was pissed off that day at the police station. I was mad when all of that happened. But I tried to look at things objectively. And this entire time, I haven't sat in my room for the entire month and been mad. Not once. Not one time.
Starting point is 00:14:28 But right now, this is the most agitated and frustrated that I've been. Even when I've sat with Jose and I watched that episode of Nancy Grace. And stuff that was being said about mom and being said about me and him and everybody else. And stuff that I've heard. It's frustrated me, but I've let it go. Right now, I'm so hurt by everything. I don't even know what to say. And I hate to say that. Well, I'm not trying to upset you. Neither am I. We're not trying to. And if we are,
Starting point is 00:14:59 I'm sorry for that. I know that's not your intention. You have to understand where I'm coming from in this, and obviously none of you are. By still expecting me a month, literally, out of the loop to have some sort of new insight on stuff? I mean, really? Not only do they continue to visit her in the jail and try to stand by her try to make sense of her story but then at trial they still stood by her cindy anthony even taking the stand risking charges of perjury to take the blame for those damning computer searches that Tot Mom had conducted on the computer, like Breaking Neck, I think was one of them, how to make homemade chloroform. I've never looked up how to make
Starting point is 00:15:52 homemade chloroform. Why would you even want to know that? So ultimately, remember this, at trial, Tot Mom allowed her defense, because what your defense does, you have to ratify, to tell the jury that her father molested her and that she believes that the baby drowned and her father cover up, i.e. hid the body because the baby drowned in the pool. Why in the world would you do that? Why wouldn't you call 9-1-1 to try to save the baby, go to the hospital, give the baby an appropriate funeral if the baby died? Well, why would you go throw the baby away in a trash bag because the baby had a pool accident? So that is the claim. She attacked her father at trial and her brother and said it was all the dad's fault. That was her story at trial. Now that she's given this interview,
Starting point is 00:16:45 she says she doesn't really know how the baby died. That's different from trial. And again, in her own way, lashes back out at her father. I mean, it never ends with this woman. She says, well, you know, basically a cop's lie. My dad was a cop. You can read into that what you want. She said when she was asked about all the lies she told police, she responds, quote, my dad was a cop. You can read into that what you want. So here we are at the end of the day, years later, she finally speaks. And instead of talking really about her daughter very much, or if she didn't do it, trying to find out who did do it, she lashes out at her father again. He says, quote, my heart hurts. Now, their lawyer gave a statement. Their lawyer is Mark Lippman, good guy. I remember
Starting point is 00:17:42 him very, very well. He says that George has continued to try and move forward from this tragedy and was vindicated on multiple occasions, is once again forced to relive the hints, the rumors, lies, allegations made against him by Casey Anthony. He specifically states that, quote, his heart hurts even more now. I just wonder what else this man has to endure. What else does Cindy Anthony have to endure? I mean, is top mom just not going to be happy until her father kills over dad of a heart attack because of her? I mean, what more does she want from them? You know, I look back after having just lost my father, and some of the happiest times in my life was with my father and mother. You know, growing up, and even after my
Starting point is 00:18:33 twins were born, going on vacations with them, them staying with us, you know, helping me raise the children, just everything. It just confounds me how she can do this to her parents who have stuck by her through thick and thin. And, you know, even at the very end here, there are reports, according to People magazine, that her parents have still tried to have a relationship with her. That in the past year or so, they've tried to have a relationship. But I guess that's all off now, right? So how many more victims does top mom Casey Anthony want? She finally speaks years after the acquittal to what, trash her dad again?
Starting point is 00:19:23 I don't know. I don't know when she'll ever be satisfied. So, I'm going to close today with the memory of little Kelly and the thought of probably the only real love Kelly ever knew or had, and that was the love she got from Cindy and George Anthony. They were the ones that took care of her. They were the ones that loved her. They were the ones that wanted her. And even now, they are the ones that are still being punished. They are top mom Casey Anthony's other victims. Simply say thank you again for being with us and making this podcast possible. Friends, thank you for being with me. Nancy Grace signing off from Crime Stories. Goodbye, friends. This is an iHeart Podcast.
